  • In this Blender tutorial, I will show you how to properly used HDRI lighting in Blender. The most common mistake that beginners make is to use HDRI lighting as the key light, which is the most bright light resource of the scene, and do not pay attention to the color cast that HDRI come with when doing product renders.

    Super high quality as always. Even though the best advice to give to a beginner about lighting is that there's no secrets about this. It's highly scene dependent and beginners should gather the most lighting solutions as they can to face all ligthing scenarios. Sometimes a simple sky texture is gonna be way better than the best Hdri. Sometimes only a point light with ies light node will make the most realistic render. And sometimes it's gonna be an hdri map. One bonus tip : I'm an archviz artist and the most precious thing that I learnt about lighting an architectural scene is that cloudy Hdris work better than an over contrasted sunny Hdri. In photography you'll rarely see any over contrasted scene but rather pale, greyish and not eye appealing pictures. Like what you see in Google Street Maps. If you can get this kind of look, you'll won the game. Not at first but if you compare this kind of pictures with an eye popping, contrasted and colorful render, you'll understand what photorealism really means!

    Thank you for this! I have had trouble rendering out HDRIs as backgrounds or reflections - any tips? Sometimes with reflections, I can see the light in general, but not the crisp reflections. And with the backgrounds, sometimes they come out oversized not what I see my previews. Thanks if you have any setting ideas. Appreciate your work!!

    Maybe I can have a wrong understanding, but hdri with studio light that is same as like areal light setup, but with 360 degrees distortion and that can be easily reproduce without a hdri map?

    • @WenboZhao
      @WenboZhao  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t quite understand your question, HDRI have some limitations regarding light control, but it is a quick and easy way to get our scene illuminated

    My problem comes from having Sunlight cast shadows, and these don't align with the HDR shadows, even after Binding to Texture or Sync to Sun. Big headache. That would make a good video.
