I’m a 2020 Ford raptor owner and a casual camper with the family.
I’d like to make two points first of all well done on the video it is the most in depth video on the raptor I’ve seen and really enjoyed the info.
Secondly I changed out of a hilux to the raptor and I have had it 12 months and absolutely love it.
For going away camping in a tent to doing odd jobs for the house or cruising open dirt tracks in the bush it just eats it up.
I have only one concern and that’s reliability but that can only be discovered over time.
    Cheers

Same here bro! I questioned the realibility of it. I own a 2018 FRR and failed on me after less than 2 yrs with 22K. Not really confident to go on long drives! Might fail on me in the middle of it. Remember the acronym:
      F-ound O-n R-oad D-ead!

@@ericlaroza2485 hey mate yeah I’ve had no failures touch wood. Also no issues.
My area of reliability if it matches that of the hilux. But time will only tell that.

Great discussion. I'm right with you Rob. Looking forward to the next Raptor. I'll be the first to go on the pre-order list if they can just increase power and load carrying.

Nice discussion group. Something not in my league, but interesting. I was impressed with the Watts linkage on the rear diff!

The main issue with the Wheels/ Rims is that the supplied standard Wheels are only rated to 780kg each giving the max possible axle loading of 1560kg, note that the Front is only 10kg under this load limit and the rear was further reduced I believe due to the overhang of the tray in relation to spring and shock mounts on the chassis being forward of the axle group and this also further limited the towing with the current spring and shock package. I was trying to reach further information from the Ford Technical department to give me better information on the actual Axle design rating and Spring mount load limits for possible GVM upgrade limits, unfortunately through the Ford Ranger Technical team (Call Center) state the Engineers are not customer facing so they simply state the brochure information.
If I could talk with the Engineers I would like to see them develop a base load spring and shock package envelope for near standard or no modifications and a heavy duty package that allows for Bars and winches that include the rims that are able to take the loads. The Axle load limit should be at set to the highest package allowed based on the axle strength with higher spring ratings but need to inform the customer that buys the base spring package of the lower load limits due to shock and spring configuration. The higher figures would make it easier for upgrading to in the future should the customer want to add gear later on and due to our Second Stage Manufacturing and GVM rules requiring information from the manufacturer to allow upgrading to.
My personal Raptor I have fitted 20" Rims (997.8kg rating) with 35" tyres including the spare which still fits under the tub, a 150L Brown Davis Long Range Tank, PIAK Front (no loops) and Rear Bars, WARN ZEON 12S Winch, Front Air Locker (ARB), ARB Twin AIR Pump with 4L Tank (under Tub), Dual Battery (Slim 100AH lithium behind rear seat), Ford fitted Extended Sports bar and Mountain Top Roller, Rhino Backbone & Tradie Rack with Batwing. With near max GVM I have been able to get anywhere from 800km to 1100km pending driving conditions

I've been able to have extended discussions with the engineers. The reason for the rear axle load limit is the soft suspension. The shock needs to be in the ride zone, and load in the back quickly moves it out of that zone, hence the rather low rear axle limit. If as you say a different suspension package was used then there'd be no reason why the rear axle load couldn't be as least as great as Ranger, leading to a GVM and payload even greater than Ranger. Yes, you'd lose a bit of unloaded 'jumpability' but for many of us, it'd be a worthwhile tradeoff.

The extra power question is a variable one, I always have the, there is never enough power, but in saying that unless you have tried it with the more power you do not know how the package would be affected. I have the 2.0 Wildtrack and over the 3.2 for towing and general driving it is a far better package. If the raptor had a V6 or V8 and was factory sorted it would be almost impossible to not buy one.

Honestly If you want more power/responsiveness, just switch it to Sports mode. In Normal you'll feel like it's a bit lacking in power, but it's basically trying to save fuel in that mode.

Out of curiosity what sort of racks both roof and tub racks were being used on some of these raptors?

Hi does anyone know the model number etc to buy snow chains for the raptor getting conflicting info from dealer and owners manual after someone to point me in right direction?

Thanks for the discussion. You have lots of good mid-sized utes to choose from-this being just one. Wish you guys would get the 150 raptor, that would take care of the gvwr and power concerns.

No one mentions the lack of tech spec like radar cruise, 360 camera, blind spot camera.

Good Video! And, here in Austria the Start - Stop Automatic is easy to be turned off!! I love this truck! We did not change anything on the car but what we miss and so what we like that the next generation does have are 2 things:
    1. air condition for the back seats
    2. the "F150 window" behind the back row.

For the next version, Ford needs a petrol PHEV and AWD in high range rather than 2H. Fortunately, rumours are suggesting that these are in Ford's plans already.

thing is, it'll only do skids in 2WD as it lacks power to break traction properly in 4WD!!!
