Toyota engineers designed a decent new truck then corporate ruined the whole thing by stripping once standard features and jacking the price up to ridiculous levels.
@@thomas735 that’s interesting because they just completely redesigned the Camry and made it all hybrid and the price barely budged from the outgoing model.
@Rdrunnersac that's because the most popular vehicles, in this case the Tacoma, need to bear the burden of making up for the less popular but necessary vehicles. This is what I've said on a few posts. Go look at Toyota's balance sheet. Their EBITDA % hasn't changed drastically in 15 years. That means pricing is simply keeping up with the changes in the market. If more people would understand how money and business works, they'd stop bitching about pricing as if it's the manufacturers to bear the total blame from.
It's inflation. I just got a Colorado ZR2. It was just under 55k. In 2019 money it would have been more like 46k. That is how less valuable the dollar is today than it was 5 years ago. That Tacoma Off Road likely would be high 30s and that Ranger Raptor would be under 50k if it was 2019. To give perspective, I had a 2019 Colorado Z71. 41k MSRP. I actually paid around 35k for it, but it would have been low 40s in today's money new after discounts, but more likely mid to high 40s these days new.
I'm not a Ford guy, but this Raptor owns this segment now. With the locker, real tires, and especially the upgraded engine, it's more special than the TRD Pro for less money. I think the ZO2 is the ultimate bargain in this category, but the upgraded engine and trick rear suspension make this most likely worth the money over the ZR2.
I agree. I also was pretty disappoint with the ZR2's motor when I test drove it. It was ok, but it wasn't amazing like the paper numbers might suggest. And we saw that confirmed here on TFLTruck where the 2.3L Ecoboost Ranger edged out the Andre's 2.7L HO Trailboss. The 3.0 Ecoboost should be completely dominant performance wise. Even the 2.7L Ranger will be a lot faster than anything else in the segment.
The Ranger Raptor was designed and engineered in Australia with thousands of kilometres of driving on rough corrugated roads. That is why it does so well on dirt roads with corrugations .
Agree 1000%!! The Toyota brand has never been this greedy by these ridiculous prices until this new generation of vehicles… company strategists models change and not always for the good.
Translation - No more Toyota trucks, we are going to put ourselves out of business, everyone invest in Nissan stock because they are about to have their best truck sales in history.
The Ranger Raptor was designed, engineered and tested in Australia. It was put through some of the most rugged terrain imaginable. It is now the bench mark for the midsize truck category.
LMBO!!! Every vehicle goes through tough rigorous training!! Actually GM vehicles undergo the most rigorous of drivetrain testing! And they have proven it many times on tfl...
The new Tacoma TRD Pro is 50% more expensive than the outgoing version. Think about that for a second. This is corporations treating the general public like idiots, helped by reviewers who shrug their shoulders and just say stuff like 'everything is more expensive'. Inflation is only partially to blame. The rest is a term called "greedflation" where corporations see just how far they can push prices while crying crocodile tears.
Dealerships adding $10K premium to top it off. My ‘22 taco lease is up next year and although I love the truck, I won’t be hesitating to switch to ford or Chevy when it appears you get more truck for the same or less money. I still think the taco is the best looking though!
@hussharda3511. New TRD pro is more expensive because it has better interior design tech features exterior design comfort off road ability and more. So some parts of the general public like you are idiots Posting rants and bullshit. It's because of people like you why so many hate comment sections of videos These days.
TFL, when testing the 10spd in low it defaults to second gear, one needs to manually select first gear which is a granny low. This is something I never see people do in reviews. It really makes a difference crawling!
Yeah, they "didn't have time to air down"?? Like surely the 5 minutes to air down would be made up for by completing obstacles first try with much better traction. And then he says he would lower to 25-20 psi normally?! For forest roads, sure- but for Moab?! Why would you be any higher than 15?
Finally, someone who's c TFL who they really are. I thought I'd never be able to say this. But these guys are clearly brought in to Toyota is literally paying these guys. Why would you put that much air inside the rapture times they know what the sure is the rapture is better than the taco period there's no comparison, there's nothing in the Victoria to lineup that will compete with the rapture. All you gotta do is look at Australia. Look at everywhere else the taco was running in the Baja and no Toyota Tacoma even made it all the raptures finished.
Seems like everyone forgot the Taco 4WD broke during light off roading. Then Toyota never really addressed the issue except replacing the entire front diff.
Nevermind affordable. There's no perspective where that looks worth the price, especially against competitors. It is priced like a Lexus but doesn't have much of the hardware it's less expensive competitors offer
Always been a Toyota guy, but Ranger Raptor all day. All of my Ford trucks and Lincoln products in the past 6 years have been incredible, and my Toyotas have been less so. I think reputations don’t always reflect current reality.
Toyota benefited a lot when Ford and Chevrolet taught Ichida Toyoda to make cars in 1936. When Japan lost WWII the Americans pitied them and they supported Japan to make cars and allowed to sell cars in the US.
It’s pretty bold to open the video claiming the latest gen Taco is the new benchmark and justifying with payload when the new Ranger has much better payload.
Ever think that Toyota is just better and you're blinded by your own bias? Came to that realization years ago and haven't really considered the domestics since.
@duke… How is the new Tacoma better? It has worse payload than the Ranger and same as the others. It has worse off road hardware and tech than a ZR2 or a Ranger Raptor and same as other midsize trucks such as Trailboss or regular Ranger. Not better in daily driving than a Ranger or GM truck and way much more expensive than any similarly equipped domestic midsize. Please, don’t say reliability because you don’t know that yet and last gen had same or more recalls. So how are these new Tacomas better?
Any "off road" trim has a price premium. Hell, the cheapest you can find a new Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave (2024 model) according to autotrader is $50k (God knows if that's accurate or just a dealer throwing every possible discount you could possibly get at it that no consumer would ever actually qualify for). Meanwhile, a Gladiator Sport S with the max tow package (4.10 gears, Rubicon axles, big brake kit - basically a Rubicon without lockers and high clearance fender flares) can be had for $5,000 cheaper. Now, I'm sure the lockers in and of itself are worth $5k but 99% of people will never need that capability so they're paying for features they'll never use and paying for the convenience. Once the aftermarket catches up, you'll be able to buy a SR5 for way cheaper than a TRD Off Road, throw your own locker and shocks in and it'll be just as capable for way less.
@@backwoodstherapy Fair, but the ZR2 is an "off road" trim with front/rear lockers, a lift, oversize tires, and some of the best shocks you can buy, and it's significantly less expensive than Toyota. Ford and Chevy midsize are compelling and I say that having never owned either brand.
The screen ain’t taking a dump and if you actually have one like I do, you’ll see you it is more effective on the touchscreen than the buttons that can easily snap off on you’re amazing ZR two- i’m lying the ZR twos are sharp looking trucks but their motors suck. My ranger raptor beat one on the highway by 10 car length I felt bad for him.
The guys mention Toyotas great reliability at the beginning of the video… didn’t the TFL Tacoma lose 4wd catastrophically in their first off road drive? I smell bias.
That Toyota TRD pro is going to need to be an incredible vehicle for the price. So far it ain’t looking good for the Pro based on its released suspension performance metrics. The Ranger Raptor & even ZR2 are killing it at their current price.
Another TH-camr talked about attending a special Toyota retreat. He said TFL was in attendance also. This was a different meeting than the reveals for the Tacoma, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser. Funny that Tommy makes a point of saying he isn’t being paid by Toyota. Wonder if being invited to these retreats has anything to do with them not saying anything negative about the Tacoma or its huge price increase?
Horsepower isn't everything I'm gonna guess a ranger raptor stock vs a zr2 stock is quite a bit heavier with all that rear end witchcraft probably around 400lbs
Got to spend a week in a 24 TRD Off Road and I'm glad I had a 21 Ranger Tremor back home. There were some good features, but the mileage was subpar and they still have not fixed their comfort issues. The Tremor suspension and lack of noise also trumps the TRD. I still believe the last good Tacoma generation ended after the 2004 model year.
Was just in South Africa visiting some friends and drove a 24 Ranger Tremor for 2 weeks. I was so glad I had my 23 Taco TRD off road 4x4 at home. The Ford was pretty clunky and rode bad compared to my Taco. Can't imagine it will ride better than a 4th Gen Taco.
Nah, let the trail itself "relocate" it for you!🤣 Yeah, totally stupid placement for it, like on the Tacoma. My 2024 ZR2 has it right next to the license plate. Easy to get to, and safe from trail damage.
That has to be due to it being developed in Australia, and if I'm not mistaken, I think their license plates are longer, which i think is why the wiring wasn't built into the bumper.
@@riverpirate1022 But look at all the recalls already on Tundra and Lexus! And this Toy already broke and had to be rescued by the Chevy. Things seem to have changed at Toyota. Sad to say as a long time and current Toy owner.
Inflation is not an excuse. Average car in 2014 was $33k today it’s $47.25k. $33k in 2014 inflated to today’s prices would be $42.5k. People are paying $5000 more per car on average with prices being held the same. Incomes have not even kept up with inflation.
That's not the full picture. The best way to determine if pricing is about correct is to go back and look at the % EBITDA the manufacturers were turning before compared to now. If EBITDA as a % is close to the same, it means pricing across the lineup is correct.
Your forgetting the massive improvements in the manufacturing processes and tons of upgrades over a 3rd gen Tacoma. You get more, you pay more. Also the price of milk and eggs is not what it used to be.
It comes down to one thing, sales…if you price yourself out of the middle class or if the middle class cannot afford the truck because the price is ridiculous and the loan is sky high, they are not going to sell shit. The upper class don’t buy in volume needed to sustain multiple models, the price so high no one wants to scratch it, and in turn can’t sell it (turnover loyalty sales) because they are underwater on the loan. The economy sucks and going worse…manufacturers are not living in American reality and the government is driving us into a ditch even the best off road truck can never get out of without a 20,000lb winch!
I think the whole tgna-f platform is going to be a case study on how to lose customers. The 2024 Tacoma for example had supply issues, now they are rotting on the lot...the prices, efficiency and capabilities are all very disappointing. They look cool, but nobody wanted a complicated, expensive, smaller backseat, less fuel range truck.
@tommyistommy not sure where you're getting the "rotting on the lot" idea. Maybe some small Toyota dealer in BFE, but I live in TX, and they are selling just fine. The problem is these dealerships are trying to sell them above INVOICE or above MSRP. Most large volume dealerships will sell you a truck at invoice and that's the ticket.
80K for a full-sized truck 50K for a mid-sized truck there is some CEOs out there that are getting very rich off of the stupid idiots who pay those prices
@@Bosha92 They cost that much because there's people that are stupid enough to pay that price because everybody has lots of money because the economy's so d*** good.
I never have understood the popularity of the Tacoma. Compared to the competition, it has less of everything. Less power, less payload, less towing, less interior volume and comfort, less tech, etc. The new iteration still comes with horrible tires and questionable reliability. It's also very ugly. And it's incredibly expensive. I just don't get it. Every other truck in the segment minus the Ridgeline is objectively better.
Agree but first thing you hear is “it’s Toyota reliability and will last you 20 years” even thoo most of those same people switch their car every 3-5 years.
You're right (although I think the 4th gen is a great looking truck). The Tacoma is "old reliable" and has MASSIVE support from the aftermarket which can't be understated. But I think that will start to change... The competition has caught up.
Would love to see a cost based comparison based on budget range, what you can get in $$40-$50k, $50-$60k etc. Then based on outcome score a dollar amount to the benefits of one over the other, for example…say ZR2 VS Ranger Raptor, say Ranger is $3k more, is the motor worth the $3k also throwing in gas mileage, etc. Maybe have four categories, off road capability, comfort, tech, tco w/maintenance..etc….
I have a brand new 2024 ranger raptor until you own one and drive one you’ll never understand just how truly amazing of a vehicle it is-one of a kind and nothing touches it-the engine alone is a class of its own
Really need to compare the Raptor to the TRD Pro. $57k *is* a bargain. The standard Raptor already comes loaded--you don't have to pay an extra $15k to get both lockers, premium tires, comfortable heated leather-trimmed seats, and nicer infotainment. The Ranger Raptor is a premier desert runner that handles rock-crawling quite well and is exceptional in daily use and overlanding. And does it all as a mid-size while maintaining 1400+ pounds of payload and 5500 pounds of towing. I have to nit pick on TFL's nit picking though. TFL will harp on the truck because they need to engage the lockers of a pretty challenging Moab trail...while praising those lockers for instantaneous engagement and perfect performance. This from the same channel that pointlessly drag races everything--grocery getters and off-roaders alike.
@@ph00ny1lol good luck finding a ram RHO at "base price" if you read the article nothing is standard it's a part of a package. So with any options it's going to be at least 80-90k
@@Mycameron2323 I'm well aware of base price and the lv1 options package which adds a boatload of items for just under 10k. If it's not a limited number vehicle as said in many of the RHO videos, you can simply order one and wait. Base features list based on the order guide is pretty full featured to boot
@@Mycameron2323 you make no sense here. Of course top trims include all options, etc. The only thing a Pro has over the raptor is ventilated seats and sunroof, all for ~$8K more! Pro has less performance in a what is essentially a 2 door truck. Interior aesthetic is subjective anyways, most guys don't buy a truck for an interior.
I sure hope a head to head comparison is coming of the ZR2, Raptor, and TRD pro. They are all great trucks with different options at different price points. Put it in a situation to test if the Toyota can keep up with the trucks with front lockers!

The raptor does nothing better then any other truck but go fast in a line. U have to be a ford d rider to think this thing is not ugly and soft. The interior is a joke
@brandonjames740 nothing better? It has a better screen actually set in the dash, better seats , better suspension, Better engine, front locker, actually looks meaner than a tacoma.
I'm a proud Tacoma owner but i can't fathom why anyone would buy a TRD Pro over a Raptor, especially considering the price. If Toyota put longer travel suspension in the Pro (and Trailhunter) then *maybe* I would give it more consideration, but I just don't see them as a big enough upgrade over the Offroad to justify the price.
No off-roaders care about crawl control and nonsense like that. Front (especially the under body camera projected “onto” the hood like Land Rover) and surround cameras are useful though. Disco sway bars, f/r lockers are a must. Adjustable shock valving and trail turn are niceties.
Yes your Absolutely.Correct.If we notice he's finding all things to complain about the rapture, which is he's not a true off roader, the raptor will pass all of these tests. But they intentionally try to do things and try to make it seem to be so old. That's a little problem bias
The connector hanging under the bumper is more like a classic case of under-engineering and cost reducing. In the bumper would make so much more sense.
That has to be due to it being developed in Australia, and if I'm not mistaken, I think their license plates are longer, which i think is why the wiring wasn't built into the bumper.
@@TJY2Kthat’s a really good point. An aftermarket bar can fix that or cutting the stock one. I did that for my Xterra and set the plugs into the metal bumper. Also added some lights to it.
I thought the same when I got the 2019 FX4 Ranger and took it through places I wouldn't have gone in the old 1999 4.0 Ranger. It felt like a beast even then but....but it did have some areas to fix for being a little better for a stock off-road labeled vehicle. Haven't driven the new one or the Raptor edition but excited to get my hands on to just drive if nothing else.
For sure I think a lot of people are wrongly snubbing the FX4 pak while looking at Tremor and Raptor. ARB air locker kits are available front and rear. It's a no-brainer.
Side note guys….if you want something fun in off time at the shop, look at an RC car. The Traxxas TRX4 is right up your alley, 4wd, solid axles with portal axles, lockable front and rear axles, and 2 speed transfer case. I have one I’ve upgraded and due to the realism have thoroughly enjoyed its offroadablity and articulation. I’m not a salesman I just enjoy realism and trucks!
These 50 ads brought to you by TFLoffroad. 🙄 Spot on agreement with your assessment Tommy. Ridiculous place for a wire harness. Protected by a plate or not. Just stupid. Locker control from a screen. Bad deal. No V8, bum deal. High sticker price for a midsize, bad deal. The shocker to me was how it needed a front locker to walk up that hill. I agree with you the Toyota with CC would have done it effortlessly. But I was not expecting that thing to struggle that much. It is a nice looking very capable machine. Good thing it didn't get "stuck" and create unnecessary drama. 😏
Would be interesting to see comparison with Colorado zr2, it's positioning itself in very similar category (DSSV shocks for fast driving and f/r lockers) but much cheaper, especially considering Ford dealers always do mark up for raptors.
@thomas735• Toyota has to prove nothing at all to anyone. Because Toyota has no issue building ultra reliable hybrid vehicles and turbos. Frontier is the Worst mid size truck in it's class from all levels.

However I only have one issue with the videos… I have a hard time hearing, and sometimes I have to backup the videos because I can’t hear what you guys are saying overtop of the background music.. plz and thank you, other then that the videos are phenomenal
@tfl The low tow wiring has to be due to it being developed in Australia, and if I'm not mistaken, I think their license plates are longer, which i think is why the wiring wasn't built into the bumper where the plate goes.
I'd love to see a rock crawling side by side with the Gladiator Rubicon, the Colorado ZR2, the Ranger Raptor, and the Tacoma Trailhunter. Also price them all with the standard features.
@bryanhersman4037 The Ranger Raptor and the F-150 Raptor aren't the rock crawling super trucks that you assume they are. They're high speed Baja racers! You wanna rock crawl side by side with a Raptor, you need to look at the Bronco, which is much more suitable and capable to crawl rocks than its other Raptor siblings.. Also, the Ranger Raptor damn near comes loaded with everything as standard!
@DalHarpJr I never said or thought they were. But that's what I personally care about. Going fast down any forest service road around here is just going to get you or someone coming the other way dead. There is no wide open desert speed spots and if there was why not just do 85 on the interstate through them in my sedan?
The Ranger Raptor and Tacoma TRD Off-Road are in the same league, with nearly identical prices IF you select the TRD Off-Road Premium Package. $56,635 for the TRD Off-Road vs. $57,065 for the Ranger Raptor. The Premium Package adds non-cloth heated power seats, premium audio, dual zone automatic climate control, and a tow package. All things included in the Ranger Raptor base price. So once you option up the Tacoma to same comfort and accessory levels, they are priced the same. But the Ranger Raptor has a better engine, way better suspension, and a front locker. And if you get the TRD Pro for $65,395 you get all those Premium package things, yet the Ranger Raptor still has the better engine, suspension, and front locker.
My local toyota dealer wants close to 70K fo the TRD Pro they have coming in so not really a comparison to the Ranger Raptor either. With that pricing in a category all it's own.
Front locker helps a ton. Installed one in my '06 Pathfinder and it takes an extra sticky situation to get it to struggle. Did the wall and one tree hill with no problem last time I was in Moab.
Trailer wiring on the Ranger Raptor is on the bottom because it is a world truck and the Brits have got wide license plates. Then Ford decided not to redesign for US to save a few bucks.
No disrespect intended: More Tommy a bit less Roman in front of the camera. Tommy is a natural. But talk to Andre about bandwidth and throughput. Love that Raptor
My Tacoma TRD also had the trailer wiring under the bumper but without the armor which was already broken when I bought it. It took about $15 to replace the plug and mount it beside the license place in the bumper where it should have been in the first place. Such a basic screw up
New turbos are awesome. Yeah 80s Saab turbo sucked, but so did most engines in the 80s, I have a Ranger turbo with 70k miles with zero issues. I live in the North Wind River Range in Wyoming and drive at elevation daily. The turbo is so much better at altitude. I will personally never ever go back to NA engines.
@@drn13355agreed. So many people are shitting on turbo engines and I don’t get it. They clearly haven’t tried them vs anemic v6’s. My last few vehicles all had turbos…0 issues
Love the review Tommy! The argument 'The seats weren't good because large (read:obese) people can't fit in them' really should be left out of any list of not so good things. Unless you are 7ft or a pro wrestler, it should probably be a wakeup call when you can't fit in a car seat anymore!
Tommy, If the new Tacoma is this good off road, I expect the new 4Runner to be even better. The 4Runner will also provide a more generous back seat. The absence of a front locker from Toyota's entire North American 4X4 lineup continues to be a mystery.🤔
@@JeremyHoutgoogleplus Sometimes I wonder if Toyota USA and Toyota Canada are aware their customers have access to the internet. In other parts of the world the front locker is just a normal option. It sells for a bargain price of $60,000. Naturally, the time-tested 2 door 70 Series is right up there as well. 😉
I'll have to see one in person, but so far reviews of the 4runner made the rear seat space look worse than the 5th gen. The cargo space didn't seem as good somehow either, I think because of the reserved space for the hybrid batteries even in models that don't have it.
😮😮 55k up I'm buying a full-size hd. Obviously won't be a off roading ability, but all around better with more space and comfort. I'll pay 5k for a Lil beater off roader. These lil mid size trucks have become unreasonable price point wise, and resale value just won't keep up. I'm eyeing the new Lexus Gx550 and your videos were great examples of its capabilities and draw backs . This is truly a great review and opinions by TFL team
I purchased a Tahoe last year for basically the same reason you mentioned. These little trucks lack cargo capacity and the rubbing elbows on the center console with the passenger is not my idea of comfort. Besides hauling a refrigerator (how often is that done?) the Tahoe hauls plywood just as well and fits long items better (11 feet with the tailgate closed)... and tows a lot more weight too. It lacks the off-road capability that these little trucks provide, but the Tahoe will outperform them on a snow packed mountain highway. For my needs, the Tahoe checks all my boxes.
@@Rich-xq3uv exactly, I really like the looks of these lil trucks and love the 1st gen tacomas. But they are unrealistic on cost across the board on all makes. But this is a 40k truck max all day. And the public will buy these at adjustment market prices and be 10 to 15k upside down going forward for next few years. Your better off financially buying larger smooth riding vehicles that will bring back larger return next time you decide to dump and run. Gm makes solid motors v8 only from my experience much better than these strained 4 cylinder turbos will be working hard .
The Ranger Raptor definitely has a fancier suspension, but the Taco’s craw control seems to make up for the front locker. An OR Premium iForce Max would be a really solid comparison for the Ranger Raptor.
Great video Tommy. You may say land rover guy but you certainly seem like a Toyota dude as of late. Can't blame you though, reliability is king. Like to see the Ranger Raptor up against the Colorado ZR2. That seems like the better comparison. American shootout.
Bronco Badsquatch has better angles, bigger tires and sway bar disconnect, a manual version, and a two door. But it doesn’t have “Raptor” written down the side of it. Amazing how that marketing can make you envious.
I watch these videos and it just makes me enjoy my $3500 03' Jeep WJ Overland that much more. LSD axles, great v8, super comfortable and continues to walk up trails two decades after it was delivered. Please keep glorifying Toyotas proclaiming every single other vehicle made is unreliable. Thank you.
Let's not forget that ZR2 monster out there. Would have been a better comparison. Didn't even get a mention. Pound for Pound and Dollar for Dollar Champ.
Ranger Raptor is a sweet truck!! After owning a midsize Colorado I think for Ranger Raptor money I’d go for a Silverado Trail Boss or F-150 with a V8 assuming those have discounts to get below $57k. Feel like you get more of a Swiss Army knife for the money with a half-ton (my opinion).
We had 2013-2014 F-150s at work. They had the trailer plugins below the bumper, all of them got ripped off from off roading. Ford needs to fix that mistake.
@@marklihsuThat was an ignorant American jab. Mark, I’ve gone to university, played hockey, lived and worked in both the US and Canada. The Cdn dollar may be lower than the US dollar, but no one in Canada has to choose between food and chemo if they’re a cancer patient. Don’t get me started.
Great video here. I like the ranger raptor over most other current options. I would love to see more videos where trucks have weight in the bed like the Tacoma! A lot of us use our vehicles with weight. Oh also, pro tip, air the tires down before filming a video 😉.
Of course, a lot depends on what your needs are. The Toyota would probably work for me as I'm an Overlander. The Raptor is pretty cool and capable though. I think I would go for the Trailhunter and that is in the Raptor price range.

Also the Raptor gets longer suspension arms and adaptive dampers while Toyota decided to cheap out on the most important part of a "Baja" truck.
The Ranger Raptor was designed and engineered in Australia with thousands of kilometres of driving on rough corrugated roads. That is why it does so well on dirt roads with corrugations .

I think Toyota is still coasting on a reputation earned a few decades ago.
Toyota benefited a lot when Ford and Chevrolet taught Ichida Toyoda to make cars in 1936. When Japan lost WWII the Americans pitied them and they supported Japan to make cars and allowed to sell cars in the US.

When equipped similarly, the pricing of the new Tacoma models is nuts. ZR2 for me.
As always, appreciate the info on all of these vehicles!

Nothing wrong with the Toyota reliability!
It will outlast any other truck.
To be fair, it wasn’t the turbo, engine, or tranny. It was one faulty part connected to the differential from one supplier.
They lost 4wd but It wasn’t catastrophic, the truck still drove completely fine. Which they showed in their videos
Yes but Toyota used to have Kaizen production process which they try to fix problems in the assembly line before releasing it to the public
That Toyota TRD pro is going to need to be an incredible vehicle for the price. So far it ain’t looking good for the Pro based on its released suspension performance metrics.

I noticed the low hanging hitch wiring on the Ranger as well. I predict relocating it will be a popular mod.

You're right (although I think the 4th gen is a great looking truck). The Tacoma is "old reliable" and has MASSIVE support from the aftermarket which can't be understated. But I think that will start to change... The competition has caught up.
Yah but it's made in Mexico so you know it's top notch 💪
Quite a few journalists have already said Raptor is level above the TRD Pro. 65k starting price TRD Pro makes the RAM RHO seem like a bargain

My Tacoma TRD also had the trailer wiring under the bumper but without the armor which was already broken when I bought it. It took about $15 to replace the plug and mount it beside the license place in the bumper where it should have been in the first place. Such a basic screw up
It'll be interesting to see what kind of longevity is offered by their new turbo 4's versus their previous drivelines.
@@drn13355 you are right.
I agree all I really wanted from the new 4Runner and Tacoma was front lockers I can get over the rest. Well maybe that and manual transfer case
@@JeremyHoutgoogleplus Sometimes I wonder if Toyota USA and Toyota Canada are aware their customers have access to the internet. In other parts of the world the front locker is just a normal option. At the moment my favourite 'forbidden fruit' Toyota 4X4 is the base Land Cruiser 300 GX with the old 4.0 V6, steel wheels, cloth interior and 3 locking differentials.
Modern Toyotas can’t keep up off road compared to the competitors. Jeep and bronco destroy the 4runner
@@JeremyHoutgoogleplusalso why not an actual low 4 low? Toyotas crawl ratio sucks
Crossing early and often into the totally subjective......you go TLoffroad!
@@davidlusk4350 100% 👍🏻
Maybe air down in the Ranger, like you did in the Toyota for an actually fair comparison of Trail Control.
They can't do that. The last time they tested a TRD vs a Tremor the TRD and Gladiator both looked pathetic.
The Ranger Raptor definitely has a fancier suspension, but the Taco’s craw control seems to make up for the front locker. An OR Premium iForce Max would be a really solid comparison for the Ranger Raptor.
To be fair on the taco you have that big tent on the top that didn’t help on the bumps.
Great video Tommy. You may say land rover guy but you certainly seem like a Toyota dude as of late. Can't blame you though, reliability is king. Like to see the Ranger Raptor up against the Colorado ZR2. That seems like the better comparison. American shootout.
That truck should be a 2 door with long bed option. Watching you, by yourself, in a 4 door truck makes me say HMMMMM
Bronco Badsquatch has better angles, bigger tires and sway bar disconnect, a manual version, and a two door. But it doesn’t have “Raptor” written down the side of it. Amazing how that marketing can make you envious.
Great video Tommy … I really like the Ranger Raptor. Good balance of power & features at a “fair” price if I can find one w/o markup.
Never thought I’d say this Ranger Raptor > Tacoma
it's been Ranger Raptor > Hilux for years now...
The Tacoma is unmatched? Which of those things you listed can't the other midsized trucks do? Squeeze the kids in the tiny rear seat?
Sorry. The Turd Pro is no Raptor in any scenario
You obviously have no clue what you are saying
I needed this video...Ahhhhhh.🎉Thanks Tommy. 👍
Thank you.
I am SURE you boys are doing your BEST to protect FORD 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Welcome to Canada where the ranger raptor starts at 80k, trd pro 80.5k trail hunter 86.5k. Can’t see how they’re going to sell them.
Sucks having monopoly money
@@marklihsuThat was an ignorant American jab. Mark, I’ve gone to university, played hockey, lived and worked in both the US and Canada. The Cdn dollar may be lower than the US dollar, but no one in Canada has to choose between food and chemo if they’re a cancer patient. Don’t get me started.
Is the higher msrp because of the Canada’s law not allowing dealer mark ups?
are yall going to use the camper this time and do some trips or just.... roll it around CO?
Great video here. I like the ranger raptor over most other current options. I would love to see more videos where trucks have weight in the bed like the Tacoma! A lot of us use our vehicles with weight. Oh also, pro tip, air the tires down before filming a video 😉.
Of course, a lot depends on what your needs are. The Toyota would probably work for me as I'm an Overlander. The Raptor is pretty cool and capable though. I think I would go for the Trailhunter and that is in the Raptor price range.
Can’t wait to see what 5 star offers for the ranger raptor
Raptor, in my opinion this is the king of all medium truck, in the segment, Specially if you took it to Baja desert run!
I imagine some aftermarket companies will come out with a trailering hookups relocation kit. To retro in the bumper next to the license plate.
“How fun it is to go off roading when the vehicle does everything for you”
lol...never heard a falser statement in my life. Hell, why don't we just stay home and watch it on video?
Isn’t that what you’re off roading for? To have fun in your vehicle. Why wouldn’t it do everything g for you?
@@Getusom Off-roading isn't a "task" or "job" that systems can make the burden easier or remove like the towing apps. Off-roading is about challenging your ability to control the throttle, to choose the right line, to know when to brake, when "give'it to her", when to winch, etc.
Exactly that's bitch as shit for people who don't know how to drive.
Very fun.
With the New Ranger, Maverick and F-series Ford is ruling the compact Truck market, Midsized Truck market and full sized Truck Market
Maybe if those tires didn’t have 42psi the ranger would’ve done a lot better
I think the Ranger Raptor is a cool truck, but I cannot comprehend spending the same amount on a mid-size truck -even with a special trim package - as I did on my full-size 2021 F-150 XLT that has a lot of options added.
Off Roading works better @ 12 PSI not 42 .
