      It was only the 2.5s during the 00s that were a bit flaky. The early and later 2.0s are good.
      The non-turbo boxers are especially reliable. You can put 100000s miles on them without really needing to do much at all to them.

      Same here, 1998 Forester, starts at the first turn of the key, runs like a charm. It is a pure beast in the snow.

      91 legacy wagon original engine was getting a bit tired at 220,000 so I took it out and replaced it, but it still ran ok. Been a great car, wish I could say the same about some of the so called mechanics who have been tasked with helping to keep it running. My 2009 WRX is getting some love right now, new gauges, but its as fast as any sane person needs on the street. Its low miles so far...52000. Been a good car, but moderately expensive to maintain. Still, it gives more smiles per mile than any car I have ever owned.

    I have had one here in south Africa as a third and sometimes fourth car for 4 years now. It will sometimes sit in the garage forv6 months . Yet all I do is put a new battery in and it has never let me down. Its fun to drive. By modern standards not crazy fast but its got tons of torque. My son and I have done surf trips to j bay and the transkei several times and it been a pleasure. Kind of like a family member now.

    Kinda missed my 2004 Forester 2.0 XT as well. The turbo 2l boxer engine runs like a champ with the ECU tune, cat back exhaust, K & N drop in filter, STi intercooler and WRX factory turbo producing 270 bhp but the the 4 speed autobox died at 100000 km. And the repairs is going to cost me a lot. So i need to scrap the car for the smaller Subaru Crosstrek.
    It common to see STi Foresters look alike. But the gearbox will be the limiting factor for engine power.
    The latter models later came with the 6 speed manual taken from the STi except the DCCD is missing.
    It common to have gearbox conversion done from the 4 speed auto to the 5 speed or 6 speed. The coilover upgrades will make the car to hug the corners and STi Brembo brakes upgrades.
    It a great daddy car to commute and carry stuffs in the back. And the family can still take a long ride because the back seats is so spacious.
    Great review.
    Most of the STi or WRX parts can be swapped to the Forester since they are interchangable.

    Late 90s JDM cars are the best drivers cars. They were simple, lightweight, powerful at the time, and very driver friendly. Unlike today's bloated but overpowered muscle cars that gets exposed on hairpins and turns by lightweights. I was on a Charger on the highway and my friend was embarrassed by a late 90s mazda Rx7 on the highway. That thing clawed the curves like it was on rails. Same thing for any JDM pocket rocket with the right mods it would wax a lot of fat pig muscle cars.

    Personally I think the 2nd gen forester and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen legacy were better in looks at the least

  • @SunNSnowEdits

    So is there any differences other than cosmetics, brakes and maybe suspension between the sti type m and the st/b? Seems like same engine, both 5 speed trans too

    • @MrJawshoouhh
      @MrJawshoouhh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Type M has 270/280 hp So it's about 20-30 more than the regular one. And limited production. He stated wrong saying that it has 250hp. Hope this helps!

    • @SunNSnowEdits
      @SunNSnowEdits 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok i gotcha, that makes it a lil more worth forking out an extra 4-5 grand for a sti type m over an st/b. Ya I knew there were only 800 made, is it still an ej20?

      how is it 20-30 more hp than S/TB? it's only 10-15 hp. it's just upgraded ECU, body kit and suspension.
      and that advertised power is only on 100RON and in Canada we don't offer that

    There is the Levorg for the wagon experience. I know the U.S. doesn’t have them unfortunately. Not sure if they are sold in Canada but at least in certain parts of Canada you have the 15 year rule!

    • @akshaypersad
      @akshaypersad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really not the same experience with that cvt they put in the levorg

    • @sasquatch6237
      @sasquatch6237 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably have the same CVT in my Foz XT in the Levorg. Wouldn't be surprised, however IMO, the CVT is better than the auto transmission as far as this gen goes. I've driven the subaru impreza "sport" wagon, the base forester, and the legacy with the automatics. The auto is pretty slushy around town and falls flat on it's face accelerating on the highway past 65mph.

    • @akshaypersad
      @akshaypersad 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah it's a brand new cvt they made for their next gen of cars. I haven't felt the auto in the legacies, but slushy or not, I think I'd still take an auto over a cvt

    • @sasquatch6237
      @sasquatch6237 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AP Studios, if you are ever given the option I would drive both the cvt and the auto to compare. My 15 XT feels like the exact same as the 17 XT. The dealership claims that there are minor improvements to the auto and cvt as time goes on. The auto still feels the same as the previous gen Subarus. That’s just my opinion and what I felt from renting cars for the past few years. If I could have got a stick in the XT it would have been amazing, but I’m glad the auto wasn’t an option for the XT because it’s not quick to respond and feels very lazy.
