F250 Super duty steering upgrade. Complete!

- This truck had absolutely terrible steering when I was on Ultimate Adventure. That has all changed after Many hours and quite a few dollars. The steering is finally up to par for a legit trail rig, as well as a good street driver. Follow along as I battle it out with ol' Louis in the final rounds of steering modification!

😀😀😀100K WOOHOO!!! Dave's kicking ass! 😀😀
Thanks!! Couldn’t get there without all the support
Dave is doing awesome. Keep up the great content.
Yes he is. Loving the content
"this isn't good, but I'm not stopping" story of my life lol
I call it bad ideas, great follow through
Such a cool truck. The fab work is cool. Looks like it's almost perfectly dialed. Next?? Drive the crap out of it, and enjoy it. Good job
Good ideas!
Rad build and super interesting to see a full size long bed work the trails!
It’s a lot of rig!
Here comes your 100k Play Button!!
Stoked. Just got the email to get it shipped
Louie Rocks!! I am happy for you that he is finally getting sorted out! He is a cool, unique ride that is worth all that work you have put into it. SWEET!!
Congratulations on the 100k! You make such awesome content. A bit of everything, and it's always rad.
The buzzin almost dozen sounds good climbing around the rocks, that area does have some good off road and dirt bike trail riding areas.
It is a good sounding motor!
Love the evolution of this truck build, just killer stuff! Congrats on 100k, keep on building all this rad stuff!
Ditch the OEM mounts and do a 3 link. I know you’re probably sick of working on the front end but that’s the final piece. Love the build.
I know what I need to do.. but you’re right, I’m tired of working on it
Love this truck. I think it needs a sweet custom flatbed or tray bed with better departure angle and lots of beefy storage compartments.
We are on the same page
Check out what they do at Basil’s garage. He’s done a few full size rigs with trays and they are sick.
If you do go this route, bob it too
Good to see you working on a 4x4 with springs and shocks. Those look undersized, diameter wise. But at least they are coil-overs.
Thanks
That's badass that he's at the ORV park near me, maybe I'll see him out there once I get my mud truck done lmao
Get to workin on it!
@thedirtheadshed I'm trying to lmao, just got a few things taking my money currently so I can't fix its little issues, it's a 77 ramcharger with a 360 and a 4 speed manual on 3/4 ton axles on 38s
Congrats on 100k Dave! its funny how the smallest cuts and bumps on your hands hurt so much more lol
Thanks so much. It goes away fast though..
@@thedirtheadshed that is true, usually after a few deep breaths, and in your case a nice song lol
100k is awesome Buddy!!! Congrats 🎊 Keep the rad videos coming 👍🏻
Thanks so much
I feel your pain both in the knuckles and the bleeding issue. Recently installed a PSC ram assist and once it was all buttoned up fought it for days trying to get it to bleed out. Process of elimination finally discovered the brand new pump I put on it was bad. I had replaced the working factory pump with way to many miles to not replace while I had everything apart. Massive waste of the PSC fluid also. Oh well I that's all part of it I guess.
It is a part of it. Yeah. I wasted like 4 quarts of sweptco as well
just drive the stuff and enjoy .you probably know more about it than most people watching so do what you think best .
I want to do another round of mods. Then it’ll probably go up for sale
@@thedirtheadshed something like a rooftent is your best bet for making it more salable ,overlanding being so popular, or did you already do that .
Come for the wheelin', stay for the nerdy poetry.
Congrats on 100k! Next stop 1m!
Haha.. I can’t believe I left that in there
@@thedirtheadshed it makes you more human, so that the little people can relate.
just watched the muscle truck roadkill ep. was great to see you on there again! hope to see you on there more often. or maybe even your own thing again 👀
Thanks! It was fun. Not sure they have a spot for me at Motortrend anymore. We will see
Congrats on 100k!!!
I've been wondering about those heim boots. Living in Ohio, my first thought has been to throw them on all exposed heims and pack them FULL grease(rust belt life is incredibly annoying lol).
I get hung up on the idea of a 4-link with the idea that it binds on purpose. Do you like the stability it gives you? Are you worried about joint life? I love the truck and the content has been great. You don't need a camera guy. The vlog style is perfect.
I like that it was a simple bolt on. But i would never build one from scratch.. 3 link all the way
Love the progress. I want planetary axles on my 450. On my second gear set up front.
Not really sure what you mean
@@thedirtheadshed I run 44s and have the stock super 60 up front. The gears are weak/to small. The d80 is not much of an upgrade. Same weight rating and only 20% stronger gear set. The planetary gear 9tons can handle the weight of the f450, and the torque of the the 6.7 diesel due to the planetary gears taking the stress off the diff gears. Also I can get a better gear ratio. I currently have 6.17:1 and would rather have closer to 5.65:1 which is available in the 9 ton. Also they come central inflation ready and with air lockers.
Congrats on 100k!! You are earning it! Thanks for the diverse entertaining content!
Thanks for watching and interacting
Keep building them ford's Dave !!!!
Will do! Thanks
Haha! been chasing down funky steering issues on my Excursion with full Lee Steering ram assist system. Also took me FOREVER to bleed. Been through 3 Saginaw pumps in a year, all new large hi flow hoses, new box, pump, cooler, filter, ported hydroboost . Dumb thing still whines a bit, no air bubbles and steering is meh. Wish I had my OEM steering system back😂
So frustrating!
Truck is awesome Dave, maybe it needs some underbody protection, thanks for sharing, I'm a huge fan 🙂
It definitely needs that!
That drive over the camera was great 👍
Haha: it’s the simple tricks that keep it fun
Tackle a big item. An congratulations on the success of your channel! Mini truck life! I got a 91 MJ.
Ooh nice! A proper Comanche
Congratulations on the 100k dave! You deserve much more. This channel is so good with no bs
Thanks!! Tell your friends!
@@thedirtheadshed I have been
Congrats on 100K subs! you really deserve it. great channel always something interesting to watch. glad you got Louie ViTen headed in the right direction . great shots on the rock garden
Thanks so much
That trip to the ORV must have been in the morning on a weekday - I've never seen a Washington ORV that empty!
Yeah. It was yesterday morning (Thursday)
Can't wait for the rear springs and track bar notch
Same!
Heck yeah!!! Been patiently waiting for the next ViTen video! Too rad!!!
Hope you liked it
@@thedirtheadshed Love it! Redo's are always a headache. Way to push through it!
Great job. So very nice to have a big project work the way you designed it. Keep those videos coming. Thanks
It was a relief!
@@thedirtheadshed Congrats on 100k subs. You deserve it. Your videos are full of design inspiration and great follow-through. Thanks again.
Congratulations on 100k!!! You have so many cool rigs I don't know what my favorite is anymore. Louis ViTen is pretty awesome, love seeing the vids. Gotta admit I have a soft spot for that little 'Stang. 340 stroker swap. 😅
I appreciate it! I’m kinda scattered right now! But it’s good. No shortage of stuff to work on
Louis needs some Dave-built rear suspension!!
It has some wild rear suspension. I just need to fine tune it
It's an awesome truck. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you improve and refine it. I think the V10 Super Duty is a massively underappreciated platform.
I agree. It’s a great rig to start with
Dirthead shed! The wheel and tire combo pops. Great episode man.
Thanks so much. I really like the wheels
100K Subs! Congrats! It must be nice if one is really knowledgeable how to set up a rock crawler capable truck. I've noticed that Mom's Spaghetti and Louis Viten never struggle rock crawling. You must have a killer low-low gear ratio cause the engine RPM doesn't have to be raised as much to crawl which means the engine barely using its rated HP and Torque . Both truck crawl so smoothly👍. Awesome Fab. Looking forward for the next TDS vlog.
Thanks! Yeah, gearing is the key to smooth rock crawling. Both rigs have dual transfer case setups from offroad Design
Dave, been watching since the beginning and you are killing it!
To answer your question; "What do you think I should do next to it"?
Sell it and built a Toyota mini truck😅
I have something else up my sleeve
@thedirtheadshed I don't doubt that at all good buddy!
Rocks are righteous.
Yeah! Cool little playground
I miss dirt everyday you guys and roadkill and top gear where my early teen years
I miss it too
Dave you have all the knuckle bustin fun!
No pain no gain! Right!
That’s no fun. Never has been
I kinda wanna build the same truck lol
Definitely set up that rear suspension and take this thing to MOAB
It would be fun out there
Hey "Knuckles", hope that healed by now. I feel ya! Congrats on 100 K! cheers
Thanks! All better.. waiting for a smashed thumbnail next
Watched Chris Durham weld one of those ram mounts on UA. In fact, I think it was on Coopers truck. Can’t recall for sure, but I think it was the white full size RAM.
Congrats on the 100k.
That’s likely
Thanks so much
Busted knuckles? Wear gloves… 😀
Onboard air? Or do you use a Power Tank?
I felt the knuckle pain in my soul.
So much hurt
Congrats on the 100000 subs. Now it's time for merch.
Soon. Soon
@@thedirtheadshed
BTW Louis ViTen is Rad rig.
Check out Webb's Offroad for his assist clamps. They are knurled and double sheer. Never had one slide or fail.
I’ll check it out, thanks!
up next.... short bed conversion 😊
I would to that route before bobbing the long bed
Congratulations on 100k! Well deserved for awesome content!
Thanks so much
Thank you for being on TH-cam cause there's so much stupid crap know days I'm happy me and my boy can still learn even though he wants me to build a trailer for his quad that I can't do so gotta get to learning ty Dave for your knowledge
Right on. Sounds like you have a project lined up
Great rig for a Goliath class truck ... The front bumper and skid need attention of some sort. Let's wheeeeeeelll!!
They are on their way out
New year's day there is snow wheeling run at that same location Hopefully I will see you there
The hangover run. I always seem to miss it
Congratulations! Great job Dave. I wish you were a GM guy….
I like some of the Generals cars
Love your stuff Dave! Bummed I missed you during Easter jeep safari. Keep on keeping on.
Next year!
100K. Have a coffee man, cheers!!! Like button energized.
Stoked. Thanks for the support
hes back! ill watch
Thanks
Glad you used the portaband, nice Swag mount for it too, I have one for mine love that thing.
One of my favorite tools
Bob that bed. Truck is looking great man.
Thanks. I kind of like it as a long bed
Great video once again and congrats on the 100k Dave! Keep killing it.
Do you have a video about your T-case set up …is it a 205 with a range box? What ever you have I would love to see how you set that up!
Yeah , it’s in one of the first (nicely produced) Louis videos. It’s an Offroad Design Magnum crawl box and ford np205
Awesome truck Dave and nice camera work!
Thanks! I’m having fun with it. Seems like the simple camera work it good enough
The drive over chassis shot was cool! 😁
Not a ford guy but such a rad truck. Makes me wanna do something with my 2nd gen Ram. When are we getting an update on the yellow Jeep?
The yellow Jeep can come in now that Louis is mobile again
Congratulations on 100k rear end must be prioritie
It’s gonna be a problem soon
Congratulations on 100k subscribers!
Thanks!
@dirthead_dave looking great sir. Question: you planning to make little skid plates/covers for the ram lines? They seem to be living in the danger zone for rocks.
Oh yeah. Thats on the short list of things to do
Those Ram fittings are Rock magnets.. Regarding next steps, how about rollout boxes or storage in the bed to store tools parts and gear? Love your videos. Wow, how will you be able to respond to all the comments?😊
I plan to build a skidpate for that ram and fittings right away
well, Mr. David, I would have it just the way it is right now, but, then again, I am just an old fart... it will be interesting for me to see what else you come up with for "ol Louis Viten
Video coming soon
Bob the bed maybe. I really just want to see it on the trail more. It's a cool truck. It would be perfect for SoCal wheeling. It would be a beast at truckhaven and superstition.
It would. Would love to do a long desert camping trip
Awesome. Dirthead Shed is one of my favorite YT subs.
Mine too
@@thedirtheadshed LOL...
Next thing to do is make sure the rear drive shaft doesn’t rub on the gas tank shield.
I don’t believe it does. Or it didn’t before Ultimate Adventure
@@thedirtheadshed it looked like it did in the vid. on the rock pile
Use use foam glass cleaner when installing the bump stop. They will slide right in.
That stuff it good for everything
Love it, great truck…
It’s a good one
Casually throwing on kings
They came in that front kit. Freakin nice
Congrats on 100K!
Thank you!!
Rad truck dude!
Thank you!
I wonder if having the fittings facing downwards on the PSC rack made bleeding the system harder.
Seeing this turned into a short bed version is gonna be sweet!
Once the pump was working. It bled out no problem
Any plans for the frame control arm mounts so they don't hang so low? I actually like that it isn't bobbed and has the full length bed but I'm sure that is in the plan haha.
Hey Dave
I’ve been watching since you’ve started. When are you and Fred going to get together again ??
Love Louis Viten my dream truck
Not sure! Seems like we only see each other at Easter Jeep Safari or Sema anymore
Maybe a step ladder😂
It is a bit of a monster truck
Awesome truck
Thank you
That’s an awesome Ford! Are you bring the YJ back?
…just drug it into the shop
Are you gonna put a generator and a portable welder in the back? Or outfit the truck for overnight use or overland use? A small camper shell would be good if a tool box were installed in the back. Just some thoughts.
DOWN WITH SPLINE!!! 100K!!!🥳
Normal lug nuts!!!
For now it just to get driven and wheeled ! Have fun
Agreed
Cool truck
Thank you
love this truck
It’s a good one!
Stub the rear of the bed and add rear steer.
🤔 hmmmm
Why did you tig weld when you normally mig weld? Do you have a preference?
Just to use that stainless rod and not use at much heat
Hey Dave! Congratulations on 100k!!! That’s incredible I’m struggling to get 600. You think you’ll ever Bob the bed on the v10? I bet it would look rad.
I don’t like the look of bobbed long beds. Ends up looking like a Corgy
Funny how you delete the Ford application of power steering pumps, and then you end app going back. They have never been perfect, but they worked l o l
True
What alignment settings do you have? I took my 4-link PMF setup to a local shop but they used stock specs. My lift is 4.5 inches on 35's. Seems to wander above 50. How does your truck handle on the road?
Better to bump a buckle then have a death wheel come apart or fall out of your hand like I did years ago. Still sucks and hurts just as bad though I’m sure.
That’s a true fact
Shorten the bed and make the departure angle better
We will see. It hasn’t hung me up yet
What that truck needs is to go on some adventures!
Then it’ll probably need body work haha and maybe some other improvement will make their need known.
I know what it needs Dave
Let me have it lol
Love the truck
100K subs!
Congratulations, Dave!!

How do you like the maxxes razrs? I'm like 70 percent hwy 30 percent off rd
They were good at first. Now they are getting kind of loud.
Yep.
