I took your advice and got a basic Roku, and it is a GAME CHANGER! I only pay like $6 a month for Discovery+ but it evens out because I've cut my Dunkin and Starbucks trips way down. Thank you for your dedication to exploring new things and teaching. You're one of few TH-camrs that have really taught me anything and I appreciate you. :)

ROKU is SOOOO wonderful. If you cannot find hundreds of movies, programming, and TH-cam posts that entertain you, you need to read a book, instead - you can't be pleased with anything.
A quick tip: I keep the small remote control in a Ziplock bag. I do this because the remote is small, and 'rounded'. It has slipped away and gotten lost more than once. So, a bag will help you to keep track of the remote (WHY do they make remotes black? They should be ORANGE, so that you can find them.)

Been on Roku for a long while. It takes some getting used to it... but now I love it. Comcast started to cancel some of my favorite channels. (Xfinity did not find certain channels/packages profitable enough). Some of my other channels were bundled into packages I didn't want or watch. They started to move unrelated channels (ie... cooking channels, gardening channels etc) to their failing sports bundles. You were forced to buy an entire sports bundle to watch ONE gardening channel. I got fed up with Comcast's games. Once you get used to it... you won't regret your decision. Jump over to the Roku family!
      - All you need is good internet service. There's quite a bit of free stuff on Roku... but now... you have the ability to pay for the specialty channels you only want... "ala carte".

I've had ROKU for several years and watch just a few channels/apps. Since I first set it up I haven't looked at it. After watching your video I looked at it and I can't believe all there is?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for this video. :)

I bought the original ROKU box well over a decade ago and cancelled cable TV all those years ago. My wife and kids just owned that thing, and we're still using the updated version today. For us that IS TV. I will add we also have a nice collection of good old fashioned DVDs and yes VHS movies and tv series too. They still work.

Thank you PP! I've been waiting for this! I pay a huge amount for cable already--and as of my next bill, it's going up...almost another $50.00. I'm ready to cut the cable. I have no movie channels...and it's still outrageous.

Okay, you talked me into it. I've been considering it for some time now because of the savings over satellite but the options look too good to pass up. Resistance is futile!

Resistance is not futile (pointless) if it's 4 something U believe strongly about. However if it's just 2 resist because ppl want attention then that's futile !

I have a cheap model small antenna ($30 at Wal-Mart 10 years ago) for live sports, and local weather during stormy season, and I have a Roku stick. Thousands of things to watch for zero dollars per month. Most people do not believe it, until they buy Roku for themselves. Great video PP !

I have (had...don't use anymore) the Firestick. My older daughter turned me on to Roku......no comparison. There is more available on Roku and, maybe more importantly, the Roku is soooooo much more user friendly. During college football season, I subscribe to Sling for the convenience of getting the games without effort. After college football season, I turn Sling off for totally free tv in abundance. My family loves Roku so much that I recently bought a second one for our RV. I kept forgetting to pack the home Roku when we traveled. I use a $40/month phone with unlimited, unthrottled internet and hot spot the tv to it. We sometimes spend the night at rest stops (free) on our way to a destination. We can watch a movie using the cell phone and Roku. As you can tell, I am a Roku fan.

We love our antenna and the 29 channels it gets in, crystal clear, but it's just the starting point. We've also got 2 smart TVs for all of the content you just pointed out but we also have Samsung TV Plus and for Christmas we got a Roku because we were tired of waiting for PeacockTV to come out with an app for the Samsung platform...our Sony has had the app for maybe a year. We also get a lot of content from our local library including new releases, often faster than our friends with Netflix. As you pointed out, you can't even begin to watch it all, there's so much and it's all free. Another thing I like to do is to pull up TH-cam and play music videos from the late 70's, 80's and 90's with the auto play on so it's one right after the other. Fantastic to have on while you're working on something else too.

I received Roku as a Christmas gift and love it so much! There is no reason to have an expensive cable service when other free options are available nowadays. We get DVDs from the local library for our movie nights and make our popcorn at home. No need to spend hard earned money in the movie theaters.

Great video and information. My Smart TV (Samsung) already has Pluto and Tubi loaded as free apps, but I also use Roku and like it very much. I like Pluto because it has some retro shows, old sci movies, etc. Tubi T.V. is also wonderful, one of my fave apps. I can pick and choose what I want and leave the rest. As long as its free, I'm fine with doing a bit of searching thru all the offerings for what I want. I've been off cable for about 4 years now and don't regret it for one moment. I watch lots of old youtube movies too!
