Per the link to the 1TB hard drive: I don't know your reasons for preferring the Western Digital HD but I've been a Seagate man for years. And FYI at the bottom of the page where the $54.99 WD HD is compared, there sits a Seagate 2TB HD (#1 best seller at that) for $59.99. I'd say that an extra $5 for double the capacity from a good company is a good deal, wouldn't you?
9 months later, the Seagate 2 TB HD is now $62.99 and if you click on the 2 TB HD Western Digital HD link, it's $64.99. The Seagate comes with a 1 yr. warranty and the WD comes with a 3 yr. warranty. I've had Seagate and WD HD's over the years and always had much better luck with WD's HD's. The Seagate's always tend to run hotter, slower and many times have bad sectors show up within a year or two.

I'm thinking about getting Philo but after watching, I'm still a little confused. Before I switch to Philo 1) Will I need a Tablo device for each TV that I have? 2) If I have a ROKU device for each TV now, will I still need an antenna before or after switching to Philo? Thank you for sharing.
Do I need to open the ROKU channel and then add the other channels mentioned in the top 10 Free channels? I'm new to all of this and am a little bit confused. I currently have cable, but will be discontinuing it October 31st. When I turn on my TV, the first screen shows ROKU, the cable company channel, and other channels that I watch from cable; however, some of them want me to upgrade in order to watch "locked" programs.
I've been considering purchasing an indoor antenna for a while. I think I will check out the clear stream eclipse. I've been kind of questioning which one would be the best.
@Cord Cutting Report - How do you get free CNN? That's a pay tv channel on my old cable system. I know there are specially recorded segments that appear here or there on some of the streaming free channels. But that's not the same as being able to tune in and watch actual CNN live, as it happens.
sorry i was not finished with my previous comment and question: my wifi router is in the basement. Will I need to put an antenna in the atic? I dont want to put one outside.
I tried using one of the attenas but unfortunately it wouldn't pick up 82 miles away to watch local channels mainly sports. By the time I would purchase one that goes 100 miles away and the other necessities I would be cheaper paying to get local or atleast football on sunday. It was worth a try.

My only question is can I setup my Toshiba 2 tb external drive to replace the tablo? If so, where can I go to find out how to do this with my antenna? Thanks
Of course this will only work if one lives close enough to a town/ city with broadcast towers that can be picked up with an antenna. I would need a 250 ft tower for that to be a viable option. Even then, I probably would only pick up 1 or 2 channels on a good day.

Thank you so much! I got a roku tv like a year ago but I never used it because I absolutely hate setting up new devices. Having to enter passwords for everything, etc. Well I finally set it up a few days ago and I really love it! It's definitely worth the set up process. I didn't even think about how to watch regular tv on it. I've never had a smart tv before. I used chrome cast with my old one. And it was easy to watch regular channels. Although I watch regular tv maybe only a couple times a year these days. Usually watch hulu, amazon prime, etc. Anyway, tonight I wanted to watch some kind of new years Eve show and I realized I didn't know how on my new tv! Here it is 11 pm and I don't know how to watch regular tv. I never imagined as a younger person there would one day be this dilemma in my life 😂 I was going through the menu racking my brain trying to figure it out and then you said it's in settings! I have a cord that hooks up to my VCR (yes! I'm that old 😁) and I used it as an antenna for my old tv so I hope it works until I can get something else. 🤞
I'm rural and locast has nothing for me. The station has to be in your area to receive. My local stations are not available and authorties do not allow out of area sub stations I guess.
I've tried tons of antennas and am lucky to get 5 channels which are mostly Spanish or oldies due to where my apt is located. I'm using an outdoor antenna that is small as they won't allow anything visible. It is a 35 mile one although I've tried up to 75 with same result. Any other ideas?
tcl pause and record built in Step 1: Plug a USB-compatible storage device into your TCL TV's USB port. Step 2: Navigate to the channel you want to pause and record, then press your TV remote Options button. Step 3: Next, head to Live TV Pause.
Did I understand correctly with Roku an antenna you can watch the channels you could get with the antenna on other devices as well without all the devices having an antenna?
roku is specific unit or plug in. They also sell a few TV s with a built in 'roku'. so no, it would need a device for each tv in your home. its just like a vcr. a box you need to plug in.
DO IT. Cable is a waste of money. I did it yesterday and ordered a ROKU last night and it came today. Super fast and easy to set up. Takes a while for you to choose all the channels you want but that's up to you and you don't have to do them all at once. Roku is a one time charge of $39.00 and that is it! No monthly anything forever! LOL
It depends on where you live. Here is some guidance that I've put together that should help you figure that out. cordcuttingreport.com/homemade-antenna-vs-bought/
I like youtube tv, even tho the price went up to $64.99. I still like it. I get my locals channels, all Disney channels, Travel, stay, alot of sports channels. Everything I want and nothing of what I dont want. So I am very happy with TH-cam Tv....
So, you don’t mention the cost of your gateway, all the other devices needed to watch live tv or roku. I have five tv’s so I’ll need 5 antennas, along with 5 roku sticks. The pricing begins to add up. I’m a big fans of local sports and network news. So to get those channels it’s recommended that I’ll need those 5 antennas, probably at a cost of $40 each. Then I’ll have to add subscriptions if needed. All begins to add up. Not sure which is better, cable or all the stuff I’ll need for roku.
You can use one TV antenna for multiple TVs. Here are a couple of resource guides I wrote to take you through the process. cordcuttingreport.com/antenna-splitter-guide/ and cordcuttingreport.com/homemade-antenna-vs-bought/ I hope that helps.
I just moved and I finally got an ANTOP HDTV antenna and on the old HDTV amplified antenna that I had that I know works because I was closer to more stations I got 73 clear channels. So I recently bought the ANTOP HDTV antenna and it is one you can use indoors or outdoors. So far I am picking up 20 to sometimes 30 channels. But it is because where I live now very rural and not really close to any broadcast channels. I am going to try moving this antenna up to my attic when I can get up there with maybe a little help and I am hoping that moving up higher will enable me to scan even more channels and hopefully receive a lot more. But I have been very impressed with this antenna.
I use a combination of Sling TV Blue with a Tablo Quad DVR for OTA TV. Tablo has a wonderful user interface. I know that Sling has partnered with AirTv but it only has 2 digital tuners and for OTA recording 2 tuners is just not enough. I wish There was a seamless way to integrate OTA channels with subscription streaming content in one guide. Any suggestions? Subscribed.
I don't think anyone has come up with an elegant solution yet for marrying OTA and a service like Sling TV into a single channel lineup. Hardware manufacturers are well aware that it's kind of the Holy Grail. Tivo appears to have taken a shot at it with it's latest 4K streaming dongle. I haven't tried it yet, but no one seems super crazy about it. The Channels app (for HDHomeRun) integrates OTA and TV Everywhere apps. Haven't tried it, but it appears to be a step forward. If I find something close to what you're describing, I'll definitely make a video.
Calvin... what sort of channel load times are you getting with your Tablo Quad? I just got a Dual within the hour from Amazon and it's terrible... usually at least 10 seconds minimum. It's hard to get a straight answer on the channel load times from reviews, too.
@@johnchristianjr the channel load time with the Tablo is unacceptably long (more than 8 seconds). Even though it only has two digital tuners I have switched to the new AirTV-2. It is very fast switching between channels and in an A/B comparison the AirTV picks up many more clear channels. The integration with Sling Blue is wonderful to the point it's hard to tell whether you are going OTA or streaming channel.
@@johnchristianjr takes me a long time to load also. I just use a regular antenna for viewing and the Tablo for recording. The picture is more crisp if you LIVE VIEW directly from the antenna.

Sling is ok but there are so many better options and at better prices will look up some of your other videos as you are clear and concise thank you
Excellent video, I'm set up with an indoor antenna the streaming is pretty good.
How?
I’m going to try this. I pay a ridiculous amount of money for cable and I have Roku!
Done Philo for a month it has a one line DVR service but hard to use, it did not have ABC so my wife did not like it,, had to swap to youtubetv
Will my satellite internet be used if I buy the rocky or the tablo? If so will it use up my minutes? Or does it just use antenna?
This is a great resource for everyone. Thanks. My problem is related to scanning my Samsung TV. I simply fail at it. Any suggestions? Again thanks.

We live full-time in a 5th wheel, our TV is LG and we have WiFi, will this work for us to get live TV shows?
If I do not record shows do I need the hard drive with the Tablo Thanks
I tried using one of the attenas but unfortunately it wouldn't pick up 82 miles away to watch local channels mainly sports. By the time I would purchase one that goes 100 miles away and the other necessities I would be cheaper paying to get local or atleast football on sunday. It was worth a try.
Here is some more guidance on TV antennas if you are interested in using one.

I hope that helps.
Getting a signal from 100 miles away your chances are slim and none due to the curvature of the earth after 70 miles.
I just ordered the antenna from your affiliate link. Thanks
Thanks very much. Appreciate it.
LOVED YOUR CHANNEL, HELPED ME ALOT STEP BY STEP AWSOME THANK YOU
I have a Roku TV but for some reason I have lost some of my local channels I have scanned the channels but it is not coming back and on channel 4 it says VCR I do not have a VCR what is going on please
Not sure. Sounds like it could be a software issue. Try unplugging your TV. Wait about a minute, then plug it back in. Hope that helps.
If I unplug my TV will I have to reprogram my tv if I'm using an antenna?
very interesting. Can I use this tablo with my amazon fire? I have the out door digital antenna too.
Do I need the internet to use indoor antenna to view broadcast channels?
nice , i love my roku , set up duel antenna 4 years ago, never look back.

No more Locast. They got sued by the networks and lost in court.
I was really looking forward to getting Locast...now its not there anymore...bummer...
I found your channel when I searched in my browser for an answer to how I can watch Fox news live. I ended up with more info than I expected an understood. My only question is can I setup my Toshiba 2 tb external drive to replace the tablo? If so, where can I go to find out how to do this with my antenna? Thanks
I have a Roku tv. I bought an antenna. I still don't have any of the local channels/pbs/etc... We're trying to get the Sunday football games.
We had Locast & it was great. The greedy cable companies got a Cease & Desist order & shut them completely down! It’s no longer broadcasting in NYC.
Of course this will only work if one lives close enough to a town/ city with broadcast towers that can be picked up with an antenna. I would need a 250 ft tower for that to be a viable option. Even then, I probably would only pick up 1 or 2 channels on a good day.
Almost anyone in a rural area which most of the country is this will NOT work.
I have sling and Roku and I have Pluto and IBut the only thing I’m having a hard time with it on I can’t find my local news even when I use an antenna my antenna I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or whatever but I was just wondering maybe you might be able to give me some tips tips or a little tricks I might be able to try it be much appreciated
Can you tell me if I can use a USB cable from my phone to my Roku TV and use that to watch TV ? Thank you Daniel .

We have basic roku connected to an old tv. We're looking for a good service for streaming live sports, especially football and tennis. Do you think Sling is the way to go? Thank you. I like your channel.
Very helpful. I acted on my of your recommendations. Trying to cut the cord. Too bad about Locast.
You didn't mention sling free. It is located at the bottom of their website in the small print.
I would like to be able to watch the news from a city I've moved away from. Is this possible using Roku?
Yes u can.
I live in WNC with hills all around. With all these hills how do I get ota tv? I have tried several antannas but no have worked. Have used 20 foot pole. What next? Locust doesn’t have my area.
You might want to give this how-to guide a read and see if there's anything that might help:

Under the review section on the site, I also have a review for the best outdoor TV antennas.
Thank u bro but am I able 2 watch those channels if I'm outside the USA? I'm currently in mexico. It really sucks that I'm not able 2 watch the U.s channels. I could watch some becuz I'm next the San diego. Cali
How is reception in the rain, wind, and snow?
no probalme better then DISH or DIRECT TV I hated it when it cut out because of bad weather which is why I will never go backt to them, I'm using my old DIRECT TV antanna as a solar cooker
Good thing about locast is that if you miss something you can always change the location of the channels to something on a different time zone and catch it later,, I live in the EasternTIme Zone I can watch a show hours later on the mountion time zone or eastern Time zone
Locast is gone now.
But if you hook the antenna to the tv you can only watch on that one TV, correct?
Can you get local channels on a Roku box without a Tv Antenna
Yes download the newson app
Thanks, I'm going to look into the Tablo, will use your link. I can't watch any free networks like CBS or NBC on THEIR apps on my Roku hooked up to my projector because they all say they aren't part of my cable package, which doesn't exist. I can't use an antenna with the projector, but I think it will work running ethernet from the Tablo to the Roku. One way to find out.
How did this work out? This is my exact issue!
@@aaronbeard3926 Haven't got to it yet. I just keep forgetting.
Ok. We are having a very hard time money wise- my brother bought us a Roku 3 series tv, do we could shut off our expensive Dish. I have a RCA antenna on with the big square pad. The only thing is, when the wind blows, the news keeps blowing off the channel. What else can I do to watch our local channels that will not cost me a lot so we can watch it with out wind interference? Thank you
Thanks - my new Roku TV found 300+ channels so I have trouble finding the basic 50 ish channels I used to navigate - now I have a ton of great channels but can't quickly find my basic over the air local stuff and quickly access it easily without digging through all those other nice channels. It's like Pluto channels are loaded and not my basic commercial TV channels I am used to scrolling. I love it but I need to quickly access those basic live and local stuff easily. PLEASE HELP. THANKS.Z
I did not know about locast - I will look into that - thanks for that tip!
I figured out a weird way to do it but it's a pain to do every time I want those basic antenna channels.
Thank you, this is a helpful video. What streaming service covers NESN?

It worked! I'm watching new years rockin Eve! ♥️♥️♥️
Who won't allow something visable? That is illegal.
@@jimross2101 Probably the apartment managment.

Helpful video. What is meant by the Tablo needs a hard drive? Thank you.
These particular models do not have storage space for recordings. So you need a hard drive for storage.
@@CordCuttingReport If you don't need to record and only want to play live TV would it be true that you DO NOT need a hard drive for your Tablo?
@@geneledue9640 True -- in fact, my father-in-law does that with his Tablo. He watched football tonight.
tcl pause and record built in Step 1: Plug a USB-compatible storage device into your TCL TV's USB port.
With the newson app you can get your local news channels
An informational update - Locast no longer exists. The major networks sued Locast for copyright infringement, and Locast had to shut down.
if my antenna will not get a local channel because of where I'm situated, will roku allow me to get local channels that I can't get with the antenna?

I need to know how to hook it up and make it play p step-by-step
Getting ready to cut the cord. I need all the information I can get! Thank you so much!
LOL
Where can I watch jeopardy & wheel of fortune?? Thanks--- I cannot get my local channel by antennae for these channels.
What is the distance on the antenna?
It depends on where you live. Here is some guidance that I've put together that should help you figure that out.

So, I’m supposed to scrap all six of my TVs and buy Rokus?
Just buy the roku device.
I like youtube tv, even tho the price went up to $64.99. I still like it. I get my locals channels, all Disney channels, Travel, stay, alot of sports channels. Everything I want and nothing of what I dont want. So I am very happy with TH-cam Tv....
$71.00 now to bad they added crappy channels, they need to ad the history channel,, The DVR service is good with it
So, you don’t mention the cost of your gateway, all the other devices needed to watch live tv or roku.

I'm from Nigeria, how do I get the tv attainner
this only works if you are in range of those channels. my area only gets 3 channels, one being a spsnish language channel
Thankyou the locast worked perfect cause I just need my local fox nbc and cbs and it's cheap I was about to do sling
Hello
Do you know why here in Hawaii we still don't have access (for free with an antenna) to the national free networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS)? How is it that my state doesn't have to adhere to the national legislation on the matter? Thanks.
Are they shut down now? It's saying that services are suspended effective IMMEDIATELY !!! Can you please advise?
