    I like how you're teaching and playing with the capo, because it's not that easy to sing, so this allows someone like me to adjust to my voice. In a Beato interview, Jimmy Webb talks about getting a phone call from James Taylor. "You told me it was in F, but there is no F chord?" Webb confirms that it is, in fact, in F tho' without every having fretted or piano-ed the chord.

    Many consider this one of the greatest songs ever written. And adding Glen Campbell and Carol Kaye and The Wrecking Crew made the perfect storm of writing and producing and recording an iconic timeless masterpiece. I remember being struck by the sound of this song as a very young boy. It still brings me a special array of memories that wash over me taking me across times in my life and the history world in my five decades of being aware. Music and smell are the memory centers of our brain. Olfactory is largest and biggest. But for those of us who are musicians or at least
    Music lovers, the sounds of our life is valuable and moving at times.

    Such a beautiful song… Jimmy Webb wrote some amazing songs! And to get Glenn Campbell to cover this song was just a perfect choice!
    Jon, this is the best lesson I’ve ever seen on this song… Thank you so much!

    Carol Kaye of the wrecking crew was the one who came up with the opening with her bass guitar. Great song.

    FANTASTIC! ❤️This is one of the most important songs in the soundtrack of my life. This is the first tutorial I’ve seen that does this song justice and it sounds incredible. I love that you don’t shy away from giving us a challenging song and techniques from time to time to help us improve. You are the best! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Would love you to teach us:
    Galveston, oh Galveston
    I still hear your sea winds blowing
    I still see her dark eyes glowing
    She was 21
    When I left Galveston
    Thanks Jon ❤️🙏

    This is a very smooth song. I think I could learn all those slash chords. I’ll be looking to add some flavor to my future originals. That Cmaj7/G sounds amazing!

      @jonmaclennan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There ya go! Well you’re a songwriter Shawn, so taking a look at great songs is essential. Also yeah that Cmaj7/G is almost like an E shape but on the lower strings. Keep up the great work. 🎸

    A lesson showing how you would play the melody over this would be great....incorporating the slides and other things you do that make it so nice. Thanks.

    Great adaptation. I’ve been playing it for years with no kapo - a little harder and not as correct sounding. Would be great if you could add the riff with passable in/out transitions. That’s the hardest part for me.

    Great question when learning new chords how long time wise do you give your self each day just to practice new chords /riffs for it to become automatic as I try to give my self a hour out of each day to practice riffs but the next day I forget where I am and I have to look again and go over it again don't if it just me taking ages to learn new songs/riffs thanks for this songs awesome tribute mate awesome big thumbs up defo top of the list I will play this song really cheer me up

    Hi Jon. Have been enjoying your lessons and learning a lot from them too. I know you always accurate to the songs but would you be able to do an EASY version of James Taylor's You can close your eyes. Seems very difficult with all the chord changes and I would love to learn how I could play a simpler side of it. Thanks again. I do love your lessons.

    Jon, how about the short solo section? Chords and notes? I’m having trouble putting that together with the capo on 5th fret

    Really enjoying your lessons, also on songs like this one that I‘ve been playing for a while, albeit with quite different chord voicings (starting in a Gmaj7 shape on 3rd fret). Your voicings are much closer to the truth, I‘m sure, though one spot I love in the song is missing from your version: the little bass riff that follows „overload“. I‘ll see if I can recreate that within your progressions, in which case I‘d gladly relearn the song. :-)

    Your portfolio of music genres is so varied, that I must admit, I'm not into every song lesson. But often enough you do an oldie or classic that just perferct for my taste (and age)....like this one (and Beatles, and on and on). However I do appreciate all your efforts. Great lessons, great channel. Thanks for all

      Looks like a D’Angelico to me. The tell-tale cut out right at the top of the headstock is a give away. Sweet sounding thang.

    • @MrFrampo56
      @MrFrampo56 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On reflection I do believe it’s a Maton ( Australian brand). Still sounds sweet but mech dearer than a D’Angelico.
