    Dave, wanna thank you for the videos, I just bought a Lama V4, got it home and went right to it, shortly thereafter I determined I was either going to give up or spend a lot on parts learning to fly, and I really wanted to learn how to fly an RC heli. Went online to find advice on how to fly and your TH-cam clips were at the top of the list, I'm building a training stand tomorrow, I can't thank you enough. Byron

    for the base I already had scrap around the rest cost me approx $11; as I couldnt find a flange and steel tube I used a tubed table leg that had a plate welded on; so only had to screw to the base wood.
    The main thing is that it's a simple effective idea, MANY THANKS Dave (now to go buy the heli )

    That is a brilliant idea. I wanted to test my helicopter, and was thinking of using string to tie it up. But this is a much better idea! I love your training stand!

    Well ya beat me to it! I was thinking the same thing but I was looking for a axial ball socket for the top pivotal point. Had to kick the idea around, result a Droid cell phone holder with a ball joint with a the original cradle for the helo platform surface. Will possibly use a a CB radio spring for some controlled movement of the main stand pipe as well. Will possibly you tube it. I have a Walkera 59QD to get used to myself. Nice Job on yours, thanks for sharing the idea.

    Good Day Dave;
    I am brand new to this hobby of RC helicopter flying. I just recently purchased my first gently used (only two very short flights of a 2.4 GHz RC Blitz Tornado. I have been flying my simulator for about a month and began searching the internet for other training aids. I found your vidoes and have watched repeatedly. Can you send me your parts list and instructions to build your training aid. Thanks in advance for your help. You are the man!

    Thank you for the test stand idea.

    Just a heads up for small heli owners: I found that mine can't budge a stand this well made. It couldn't even lift the small wood block it was attached to! The pad would have to made of foam with something like dixie straws for the rod.

    How do you think this stand would work for a T-Rex 600 Nitro Pro? Should the stand have a multitude of bungee cords and a heavier base? What would you do? I have the heli listed above and haven't flown it yet and crashed it once on the maiden "flight." I want to test it with your apparatus before costing myself more money. Thank you. ~Max.

    If your problem with Heli-X is that the engine doesn't respond, it's because you have to assign a switch (or keyboard stroke) to "idelup" or the engine won't start.

    @mickcarson8504 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful Blade 400. I have one too. It flies great. I have a XCopter too. If may fly right but vibration and unbalance is shocking. I use a different training method. While this is fixed on a pole and only helps the helicopter to track up and down, the leaning over the sides helps nothing. I use the ball training gear strapped under the landing gear with nylon ties, then I tied a strong curtain string or fishing line 25 inches (about 45-50cm) in the centre of the training gear and the other end tied on a strong curtain hook screwed on the centre of a 2x2 feet plywood plate no thicker than 1/2 inch with the ends sanded down like a chisel to make the training balls go over and on top of the plate when the helicopter rotates around with the tail rotor before lift off. With the string or fishing line attached, you can actually lift the helicopter halfway or all the way the entire length of the string. This way you can learn how to hover the helicopter accurately because you can see that it moves sideways and you have better response in controlling and correcting it. You must make sure that the helicopter doesn't lean over more that the string permits when it leans over to a point where the blades may hit the ground as the helicopter leans sideways. The balls must touch the ground before the helicopter is leaning too much as to stall. Do this check before training to hover it. Before training, pull the helicopter sideways from the main rotor shaft to stretch the string fully then touch the 2 balls closed to the ground with the ground. If the rotor blades are well off the ground by 4-5 inches, all is well. If they are less than 3" to ground, you have to shorten the string or fishing line, making sure the string or fishing line are secured properly at both ends. Don't force the helicopter to lift the plate.

    • @AerialPhotogGuy

      Yep, ground resonance can cause a heli to literally destroy itself, I've seen it happen to a model on a test stand very much like this one, hard to admit but it was my heli! :-( Yes, I did have lots of play for the heli to move up, down and pivot or tilt in all directions and when it hit that one frequency, it destroyed itself before I could hit the throttle hold switch, it happens MUCH faster on a model than it does on a full scale helicopter. I've seen videos of real helicopters fly apart while tethered to the ground from resonant frequencies. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/Fd2CAzEpytU/w-d-xo.html
