Thanks NightFlyyer, I saw your video, went out and got the parts, and built the stand. I look forward to flying my RC Helicopter on it tomorrow. This has to be one of the best Training tools ever. Well done.
Just want to thank Nightflyyer again for this great stand. I'm not hovering yet, but this stand is getting me a whole lot closer. Thanks again for sharing your tips and support.
In a heli this small it seems to be common opinion that the tail rotor blades do not need to be balanced. On larger heli's it is common to balance the tail blades and grip assembly. FYI I do balance the whole assembly on my b400. The following are a list of things to check that will also cause a tail vibration. A belt that is too tight or too loose. Anything loose or misaligned in the tail rotor pitch assembly. The bearings in the b400 are known to loosen up over time.
Thanks Dave! I am going to build this next weekend, I have been flying mine with a 38" Hoola Hoop secured to the skids wich has worked well so far, but has not completely gotten rid of the "pucker factor". This is my first CCPM heli and after 2 1/2 months I have only broken a blade grip, but I have to blame that on a bad combination of wind and testosterone.. If I can get my hovering closer to 100% then I can have fewer "run-on" landings.
Altonman, you hit the nail right on the head. As I was flying Dave's Blade 400, that's exactly what it felt like. This is an EXCELLENT trainer. I was able to "feel" the amount of stick movement/helicopter movement ratio. Very realistic, and hey, I didn't crash! I probably would have had I been flying in actual free air.
I sooooo have to make one of these!!! Well done and thanks once again for keeping all of us R/C newbies heading in the right direction!!! TWO THUMBS UP!!
High rpm wobbles and vibrations are usually tail rotor related rather than rotor head and main blades stuff. If the wobble/vibration comes while you're spooling up or at low rpm do the basic balance your head stuff. Vibes at wot are tail related.
Hey Dave, I have a suggestion. Try setting the transmitter Expos to 20%-25% for Alil & Elev. 15% for Rudder. I have been reducing the percent every day I fly and now just today I'm at 0% Expos. I tend to try to over control, so this works good for me but not sure if Jeff is that way. Oh I also changed the pitch curve to 45,48,52,70,90 to reduce the acceleration from the CP. Im now using 35,42.5,50,75,100 default settings. I like warm up with my Blade CX2 doing nose in & figure 8s.
Dave I love your test stand. You should sell plans or show us how to do one in a future video. About the only thing missing from this video IMHO would be a split-screen so we could watch you operate the Tx while watching what the heli does at the same time. TFTV (Thanks for the Vid)
NightFlyyer, I'd like to thank you for all the great information you have cought on tape for newbies like myself. Your videos have given me such a better understanding of basic helo flight, control,& operation. With that said would you say the blade 400 is or isn't a good choice for beginners ? My local hobby shop has them and I'm finding is harder and harder to walk past them.
Hey that looks like it could be great for pre-flight checks. I think a sim would be a little better than that as you can practice a little more thorough, but still great all the same, I might make one for my 300 sizes and up.
Very clever idea. I've built the harddisk version for tail setup, but had never considered having 360 tilt and lift option. I have a redundant draw slider with ball bearing runners, might do for my 500, at least for the lift side, has a 15" slide ;-) 5* Steve
great invention! u should send it to kyosho like ur helicopter deighn. also, is the esky charger an auto cut off? i dont want my bettery to blow up because of overcharging. please recomend a good, affordable li-po charger that has an auto cut off, if the esky charger is not auto cut off.
G'day Dave from Australia! Wanted to say thank you SO much for this fantastic idea and absolutely love your channel. Finally I can learnt to fly my large scale chopper with your help on here. I just had query, I have a 480 scale uh-1 huey which is 2.5kg (5.5lbs) in weight - do you think this stand (obviously built more robust to handle this weight!) is suitable for this size heli?? Would love your feedback. Thanks again Dave for your awesome videos.
It worked just fun for all my helis, especially to get the trim and gyro adjusted. It does not really need to lift to do that, If your really worried about tipping over, put a couple of bags of salt or a sand bag on the base. If using a nitro heli, use a bigger or more than one bungee cord. All the best and good luck with it down under and thanks for your comments.
Hi Dave, Yes that all makes sense - I’ll take that advice onboard (pardon the pun!) and no, it’s not a nitro heli, those things scare me 😳 Thanks again Dave and keep up the great work 🙂
Somebody may have mentioned this before, but does this stress the motor any more than normal? It seems like lifting it up with the strap holding it down like that would get a little tough on the motor, idk.
Hi Dave - Long time viewer, first time poster. Cool invention for training! I've heard that flying a single rotor helicopter is like holding a sheet of glass, putting a marble in the middle, and keeping the marble in the middle of the glass. That's what it looks like your rig does.
Well i am kinda looking away from the esky charger ever since the battery that i was charging blew up into a small fire. That's why i want the auto shut off feature because it will prevent many accidents.
whatever works for you, all I know is my boys fly like experts and its always fun to see the old boys pick their jaws up off the ground when my guys fly.
What size pipe, how long. Now is that a wooden dowel with the platform on it, and how is the platform secured to it.Need to build one.Nebie to this myself.Have 450 trex.Smasned a few times trying to hover even with training gear. This is very cool.
Hey Dave, do you know of any really good li-po chargers? Mainly with the auto shut-off feature? Also can it work with the li-po batteries with the honeybee cp2 and the honeybee king 2?
This stand is a great idea! My only criticism is that the helicopter starts from a non-level plain so the pilot has to immediately correct for the starting angle to get into the hover. If you added a second disk as a heli pad (say 10" - 12") in diameter at the top of the outer pole so that the lift pole can move through its center, the heli will start level but still have ability to tilt when airborne.
That will work too. I have had no problem with it though, other that my shop, house and all my equipment were destroyed in a huge fire in 2016, and I am not going to build another. Thanks.
What a great idea, may save me a fortune after trying to fly mine the old fashioned way of up and crash he he Dave i noticed at the end when you are flying, that you were using thumb on right stick and pinch on left stick. Is this the best method in your opinion ?
I just wonder if using plastic tubes would be easier and give us more accurate feeling on the sticks. the heli is lifting a heavy pole and balancing on a heavy board too. I am thinking something light weight and mabe actually making a stationary plarform to take off and land on even though there is a tube running through the center of it. hummm. Still a creat idea as far as getting the feel for your helicopter and actually helps in setting it up.. Using lighter materials would allow use with smaller heli s too.
Personally I train my boys on Realflight G4, after 30 days my 8 year old was flying anything with a prop or rotor. But more then that he was able to land the aircraft where he wanted it to be.
another thing that works is use the training kit with the balls on the ends and use a small anchor with a strong cable and anchor it to the ground on the center of gravity but only make the cable long enuf to let the heli raise but not long enuf to allow it to flip on its side..just a few inches or you could strike the ground with the tail rotor ..
HI mr. Herbert I need some advice. I got a problem w. my heli. i turned it on i was fxing a bent shaft so then, i was spinning up slowly to see where to bend to n such, n then it the serovs all went down on its own and i lost all servo control. Now when i turn on the heli, light goes green but it wont do anything no throttle no tai, no servos, i dont know whats going on with it. What should i do?
Is 3E Smart Plus LPC-1080 Li-ploy battery Balance Charger a decent charger? It looks good on a photo but don't know what it would be like. Thank you very much for your suggestion on 3d. But I am still not brave enough to try it. I tried it without a rotor blade attached, and when I take it to mid throttle, the motor screams. And when I hit the 3d switch, it screams even more. So I'm scared.
Question? Do you plug in the heli and let everything initialize(gyro, etc.) on a flat surface w/throttle and throttle trim down and hold on and then mount the heli and spool up or can you mount the heli on the stand and then do the above steps ? thanks roadglidec !
make a smaller one! for micro helis. And, istead of a base that's free-moving in all directions, reduce its movements to yaw, forth and back and up/down one that you could clamp to a small table, sit back on a chair and relax while feeling the controls. Its gonna be a hit... small and compact, and a good tool to teach kids and adults to fly and have fun with small-sized helis get the idea? :P
So do you sell the kit or parts, I need the parts so that I can Build an Electric Heli Training/Test Stand, I need the kit or parts so that I can put Training/Test Stand together?
Hi Dave. Thanx again for a cool vid, and a good idea it is. i caught jeff holding control bad in beginning of video, ust the tombs, thats bad Jeff. hehe. I do now have a blade cx2 that is a realy cool chopper for indoore flying, its realy nice for Practising the control. i have started to manage the honeybee cp outside, all thnx to you Dave.Your greate vids have learned me a lot,and to all people wanting to fly choppers,LISTEN TO DAVE, HE KNOWS.
yep, thank you :) I been flying for a little over 2 years now. But im not that good w. electrics of it. Though I know how to take it aprt and put it back together. I finally did it, I put a new battery in it. since i have like 5 battery for it. and Now im just working on my blade tracking b/c my skids where shacking alot. So yea now it seems good. Thanks you and all your videos I watched all of them!!! hehe
That is usually caused by a card error. Make sure it's not write protected. It may also need to be formatted. Try another card. Maybe remove battery in TX and turn on with no battery, then shut off, put battery back in. Like rebooting computer. Good luck.
awsome idea!! I will be making one while I am waiting for my honeybee king to arrive, you should market this as its cheaper than buying parts after training crashes!thanks a lot :)
its not good to start out with...first start out with a 4 channel (throttle, rudder, foreward backword, yaw) i would recomend the heli-max axe ez,i started with it the parts are a lot harder to brake than the cx2,and its smaller so better for indoors and does not have blade strikes the cx2 does and its cheaper and comes with training gear and folding blades which is not on the cx2
wonderful invention, ,and im sure the best part was making it :D, thanks for making this vid to help us :D i told my dad and we might make it :) thanks dave (p.s could you make a video on 1 of your gas powered helicopters, i really want to see how you would fly with it, and i want to see the difference with you flying electric helis and gas powered :D , once again thank you dave herbert, 5 stars! i rate this a 5 star movie '*****' :D haha
omg. BEST! idea ever to learn how to fly. i wish i could've learned like that ahha. i learnt the hardway spending a few bucks xD. great thinking. very good invention for learners :D. i love it!
Thanks NightFlyyer, I saw your video, went out and got the parts, and built the stand. I look forward to flying my RC Helicopter on it tomorrow. This has to be one of the best Training tools ever. Well done.
You probably saved me and anyone else who does this a lot of money in repairs and prevented more frustration. Thanks! :-)
Just want to thank Nightflyyer again for this great stand. I'm not hovering yet, but this stand is getting me a whole lot closer. Thanks again for sharing your tips and support.

Jeff,
Great job flying! I've been flying (trying) CCPM helicopters since last summer. This looks to be an excellent tool to test and trim.
Jeff
Dave thank's for your time I am going to make a test like you have shown. I'll keep you posted as to my progress. Thank You

Dave, that is the coolest heli tool I've ever seen, gonna make one myself so my friends can try, maybe get a few more heli pilots. Good work.
Jeff is a lucky dude to get to learn from you! Just from my few months of viewing i wont take anyone elses advice the same
Dave, that heli stand is a really good idea. You should patent the idea and produce them for the open market.
Hey Dave, I have a suggestion. Try setting the transmitter Expos to 20%-25% for Alil & Elev. 15% for Rudder. I have been reducing the percent every day I fly and now just today I'm at 0% Expos. hey there, great idea. you should think about making a modification to practice inverted flight too. lol try sticking the stand to the roof. rob

get the idea? :P
can you use that training thing to fix the trims..?
good idea dave you have giving me a good idea, great vid and great flying
I have a Blade 500 3D and Align TREX 600 Nitro DFC. Any changes you recommend to the base? I would guess it should be a little wider...
So do you sell the kit or parts, I need the parts so that I can Build an Electric Heli Training/Test Stand, I need the kit or parts so that I can put Training/Test Stand together?
Rc apache .and the battery is : ni-Mh ( 8.4 v and 350 mAH )

wow looks hard. ive been wanting 2 see how hard it is 2 fly these things. but its hard 2 do that until u get a chance 2 try it.
Can you tell me which is a descent Lipo charger for under 100 bucks? I'm new to this area so don't even know what brands are there.
On belhalf of all the spare parts I have just saved by using this, THANK YOU. REALLY>
dave i have a axe cp i cant fly it. what heli would you say i should get. i can fly the blade cx2 any help would be great thanks
Thanks for you response Dave.
can u tell me where i can buy this orange things??
I have problem in my remove control spiktrum dx 7 ,"backup error",,give me solution please

wow, thats a great idea. I just love all your videos.
i had another go at your design ,,this time its fully functional like yours : )
ill post it as video response.
hey uhh i was wondering whats the difference between 6 ch and 4 ch?? but nice idea 5/5
Does it works for any helicopters?
How much will it cost on total?
Denil uk
your vids allway amaze me great stuff , you should have your own t.v show, all the best .
were do u get the orange air ????
make sure your landing skids are secure!
r those for sale. they should be
awsome idea!! I will be making one while I am waiting for my honeybee king to arrive, you should market this as its cheaper than buying parts after training crashes!thanks a lot :)
that would be very usefull for helping with blade tracking..and it would be pretty safe !!
nice man ...If I doo this with my helicopter . in 20 second . the baterry is off . .
its not good to start out with...first start out with a 4 channel (throttle, rudder, foreward backword, yaw) i would recomend the heli-max axe ez,i started with it the parts are a lot harder to brake than the cx2,and its smaller so better for indoors and does not have blade strikes the cx2 does and its cheaper and comes with training gear and folding blades which is not on the cx2

how about straws?
that's kinda creepy how it turned toward you!
but its great for pre flight trimming or bench testing your heli!!
Hi
Excellent Idea.
Thanks for sharing.
Keep it up.
Nice wing..great stand...your fan..Semper Fi
Dave it think u r the best rc flyer ever!
great for how much
Not a bad idea. I can see applications for absolute Newbies. This would have helped me when I first got my Blade 400.
Yea agreed. nothing better than a sim or starting with a coax.
Muy Bien Sr tnks for the tip genio gracias senor
Nice idea ...
When flying tho use your thumb and four finger you get much more movement flying with your thumbs is very dangerous =)
omg, u should sell this in hobby shops for 20-30$. I'd def. buy one :)
nice pad!
LOL! that kind of training is a good alternative of flight sim..
he takes "swimmies" and cuts them apart.
I learned on a PC simulator...
I mean it is really true it is a simple and effective method really.. better then any simulator at least in the start:D
omg. BEST! idea ever to learn how to fly.
i wish i could've learned like that ahha. i learnt the hardway spending a few bucks xD.
great thinking. very good invention for learners :D.
i love it!
i want one...
If I did not have my simulator. I think I would have quit this hobby months ago. In fact come to think of it, I did. Until I got the simulator.
SomeBody Stole This Idea From You!! =]
Better Sell It Fast
awsome idea im going to make me one just learning thanks great video roterwash46
good idea.
Really cool mate! genious!
yay!
you are a genius
nice stand, but you won't learn alot from it.
bags
