      @@mr.c493 Also, the absence of a solid rear axle gives the truck adequate clearance which makes a world of a difference in rock crawling.
      2nd SEQUOIA is the only toyota body on frame truck that never had a solid rear axle.

      These trucks got the rep of a soccer mom car, but cruisers also can fall into that... Just on the other side of the tracks, lol. Dedicated rear locking diff and size are the only two major differences between the two from an off-roading perspective.You can also put a rear locking diff on a seq if you find the need. There are points in this video where you can see that it would have helped, but ultimately it wasn't needed.

      @slandshark with my poor driving style somewhere around 13 mpg with all the added weight from gear, etc. When ibsay poor driving style I have this problem with not wanting others to pass me. So I am usually going a few mph faster than the fastest driver.
      I still need to get it regeared and tuned. On a trip I did to NM/AZ with a large group going speed limits o got prob closer to 15 hwy and prob around 10 while in 4h or 4l on trails. Comparing to others in the group (jeep gladiators, wranglers, Tacoma, xterra) I used the most gas at each fill up but it was usually somewhere around 2 or 3 gallons more.

    • @slandshark
      @slandshark 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@c3nixon Thanks for the numbers, that's good to know. Our 2023 Subaru Ascent dropped to about 16 to 18mpg onroad (previously 19 to 22mpg) after getting the 2" front and 2.5" rear lift (plus all the other mods, skid plates, rock sliders, etc). When offroad we've gone down as far as about 11mpg, but typically see 12 to 14mpg.
      I was curious how much more of a mpg hit we'd take if we decided to get a Sequoia. I'm assuming you use regular gas and not premium?

    • @c3nixon
      @c3nixon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are not built to get good mileage that's for sure. They kind of have a small tank to. 26 gallon tank BUT 6 gallons is reserve. So unless you go under E often you will be using roughly 20 gallons by fill up. 12ish mpg with all the mods and weight. I drive a lot to... so typically fill up once or more a week. You should use the lucas gas additive from Walmart. Makes a noticeable diff in keeping the system clean slightly more pep in its step and improves mpg slightly.
      The smell is normal for Toyotas to. Especially if you drop the back window and step on it.

      @@c3nixon Ahh, yep makes total sense. I went through that process as well. We have a 2023 Subaru Ascent and after a recent bad experience in deep snow with Falken Wildpeak A/T tires I ended up buying a larger diamater, but still 18" set of Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's. I had wanted to drop to 17" wheels, but like you said didn't want to spend money on yet another set of wheels just to have to sell the others I had recently bought. :)
      We have done skid plates, rock sliders, lift, winch, welded front recovery points, swingout hitch, and rear diff locker, plus some other stuff. We just broke 2 axles though and the CVT is already showing signs of dying after just 30k miles. I'm thinking we are pushing this vehicle too much for what we use it for (overlanding/offroad). We are a family of 6 plus large dog, so we weigh it down with cargo/passengers.
      Last year we took it through Utah BDR (sections 1 - 3) and drove through MOAB. Awesome time! Hoping finish that in the future.
      I found a 2020 Toyota Sequoia Limited nearby with 36k miles on it....seriously considering trading in our Ascent for the Sequoia just for the bigger size (interior) and for a hopefully more appropriate platform for overlanding/offroading for our family size. It's the cost that's stopping me though. It's listed at $57k and our vehicle is only worth about $35k max for trade-in... so about a $20k difference, plus I'd have to rebuy all the mods for the Sequoia.
      Kinda wish I started with the Sequoia in the first place. My Wife doesn't like big vehicles though. Also considered a 4runner, but the 3rd row is pretty terrible and you lose all your trunk space when it's up.
      Anyway, if you find a spare $20k laying around let me know. haha

    Are you using the stock roof rack? Not many roof rack options for our cars and it's so over priced...

      Yes I am. I actually just got a new roof rack from ALOffroad and I'm installing it today. Check out nixon.toy on Instagram later today or tomorrow I'll have pics up

      @@c3nixon Did you upgrade for the sake of upgrading or was it not sufficient? I ask because I don't want to spend $1,000 on a rack just to put a $1000 tent up there.

      @@JKUadventures I have a very big tent and a family of 5. Smittybilt XL equivalent of a King size bed. It fits us all... 2 factory bars held fine... I upgraded for looks and more support for our weight. Kids are 14, 10 and 7.... and kids just keep getting bigger :-P I will eventually do a room under the tent and move the kids down.... but the new rack.... dam check it out on nixon.toy Instagram just posted

      @@c3nixon Thank you Charles. I also have 3 kids 20,17,16, so they can hardly be consider kids anymore. But I got the sequoia to accommodate them instead of a Rubicon. Thus I'm trying the make the best of it, because the aftermarket options for our sequoia is limited. Thanks for the explanation and keep enjoying off-roading with your family.

      Yea... they came with the truck when I got it.... at the time I dropped close to 6k on lift skid plates and a bunch of other crap. So I opted to keep the rims and just do tires.... BUT.... I have 17 inch rims that just arrived a few days ago.... and 37s ordering this week....
