The Land Cruiser. 200 series is the greatest vehicle of all time. No sugarcoating it. It is the most durable capable overengineered iconic legendary car ever made. The Sequoia is incredible. I see the value as the Land Cruiser. using round numbers is about $40,000 more than a Sequoia. And very true about the space the Sequoia is significantly bigger than Land Cruiser. on the inside. Great video thank you for posting

As a Sequoia owner who offroaded this rig, I have to attest to what is said here.. an underappreciated vehicle for offroading and surprisingly capable when you take it on the trails. Mine is a lot closer to stock form, except the bigger K02 tires... Planning to add rear lockers and a lift and a tune very shortly.

      @@attilabereczky4963 I went up 2 sizes...
      Confirmed:
      275/60/20
      And
      275/65/20
The only thing, is that I had minor rubbing of the front wheels with the old fender liner, which I replaced both after losing one while offroading. The new ones are more sunk in, and I had no issue after replacing them with the 275/65/20.

I've had my first gen Sequoia for 4 years and it's been a very confidence-inspiring vehicle. It's taken me everywhere I wanted to go in any weather or road condition without fault. At the same time, it has demonstrated superb mechanical dependability despite having 330k+ miles on it. With the LC going away, the best kept secret in off-roading will finally get out.

I have a 16' sr5, family of five, bought it for this reason, camping and outdoors. Did tires and skid plates last year, doing dobinsons spring and shocks this year for about 2" of lift. These things are tanks, you can just feel it when you drive. Yes you can fit full 4x8 sheets in the back but even more impressive, is that you can fit them THROUGH the rear window, which is about 50" wide. The ability to run these sheets through the rear window WITHOUT having to take out all 3 child seats from the second row is literally the best thing about this truck for me. I just roll the window down, slide them in and run over the top of the second row. Had ten sheets of 5/8 ply that way once. 10 ft dining table, same thing, right through the window. You get tundra functionality in a 3 row full size suv, best of both worlds. Hate the fact that new sequoia did away with the roll down rear window, I don't think they realized how useful that was...

    • @farazq

The new sequoia leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately. And the cargo space behind the 3rd row is unbelievably atrocious. I really think Toyota messed it up.

I've got a family of 6 and we go overlanding/offroad. We enjoy doing the BDR trails and took our 2023 Ascent to Utah and Moab last year, plus TONS of adventures throughout the cascade mountains.
I've been considering getting something a bit bigger considering our family size. So far the Ascent has been good, but we broke both rear axles recently and the CVT is showing signs of wear while we only have 30k miles on the vehicle.
What are your thoughts on a the 2020 Toyota Sequoia Limited for offroad/overlanding? Our Subaru Ascent has a winch, welded front recovery points, rock sliders, full skid plates, rear diff automatic locker and a swing-out hitch to carry a full size spare, plus we have a 2" front lift and 2.5" rear lift.
I found a local 2020 Sequoia Limited with 36k miles on it, listed for $57k...but my trade in is worth maybe $35k max...so there's a $20k difference there, plus I'd have to spend thousands more to upgrade the Sequoia.
Trying to find a vehicle that is big enough for my family (2 adults, 6 kids and our big dog) that can really offroad without worry of constantly breaking stuff or wearing out drivetrain parts.

Hey guys! Fantastic video, as was the "Build in 5 Days" video!
I'm considering selling my V8 4Runner and grabbing a 2G Sequoia for the same reasons - SPACE. Curious about your rear suspension on the Platinum... It's my understanding that all Platinums have the air bags in the back, I see that you swapped in springs. Is the rear bag system essentially the same as the 4Runner/GX? If not, is it difficult to remove - or, better yet, difficult to modify for on-board air?
Keep on rocking the build videos, those are my favorite!!

I currently have a 2001 LC with 418K miles on it. It's getting long in the tooth and I'm considering the 1st gen and 2nd gen Sequoia as the replacement when the time comes. Since the 2nd gen is IRS, are there any reliability issues when doing hard off-roading? Would you have to upgrade the upper & lower control arms?

Save your money and get rid of the independent suspension, continue to wheel that way and you'll eventually go with solid axles. You can throw tons of money at the independent suspension, with minimal gains. I believe Offroad Hub did the 1-ton axles on his FJ cruiser
