TIP: Make sure that, whenever you're soldering, put the wired THROUGH the holes and solder the other side instead of on top. Also make sure you do not leave any wiring exposed.
This was the guide I needed for when I built mine. I accidentally ordered all micro usb and ended up smoothing out the cutouts on the 3d print to make them fit. For anyone reading this, make sure to order the right parts before jumping right in. It's very easy to get excited over affordable full body, but just make sure to check your orders.
This is really an excellent walkthrough. Combined with SlimeVR's fabulous documentation, I think it will be the thing that convinces people who haven't done a lot of soldering projects that they can do it themselves.
Music is a little loud, but the audio's still good enough to follow through. I recently got my hands to a soldering iron kit, and a video like this one's motivating me to make the decision towards building my own trackers. 😅
Check the discord! There are much better methods than this coming out and already out. I plan on a complete video redo in a couple months show casing my new build I'm working on right now! It uses the same components but some extra ones aswell for added reliability on tracking.
I think it would help if you added a budget break-down portion for diy projects like this. That way people can anticipate what they arw getting into budget wise.

yeah i agree i build my 10x slimes for 700$ and its just sliding all over the place i tried everything i could but nothing nothing worked i have the bno085 and its just waste of money i spend around 3months trying to make it look at least "decent" but i got nothing id rather buy used base stations with 3x 2.0 vive trackers for 350$
same i got 8x the bmi160 and it looks way worse then i thought. I'm using them for 7 months, new updates fixed it a little bit but it looks so unreal and it breaks my immersion in the game. Thank you for bringing up buying used trackers with base stations. i will definitely do that because I'm gonna lose my mind trying to make this work any longer. @@idkurmom359
Really depends who you calibrate in game! This is actually a issue slime docs doesn't cover very well. In vrchat make sure legacy calibration is off, and you're calibrating by height, not arm span. This heavily reduces the skating issue cause the pivot point will be set properly with the IK. I've not noticed much skating with my setup, imu drift is a given, that'll happen. But honestly even with vive trackers you're subject to this (at a much smaller degree but I've seen it) Vive trackers are amazing and I love my 3.0s, these slimes work perfect when I'm traveling or want to show off fbt to a friend without bringing my base stations with me. (or currently how my boyfriend has all my vives and made me buy him index controllers 😂) There are trade offs with both tracking methods for sure. I long for the day when we don't have to deal with the trade offs of either of them.
i know how to calibrate in the game i even tried again slimes just for the sakes of it and its still same shit like before its just not worth it cuz you can get trackers and base stations for same price and the drifting thing yes htc vive it does drift but when compared vive ones the drift on thoes is minimal i use my vives for quiet some time now and ive never had drift bigger then like 3-4 inch at most same goes to precision htc vive 2.0-3.0 has precision of < 0.03inch and slimes has around 0.3-3inch same goes to update rate but that one isnt as serious 100hz for slime, 90-144 for vives. and i dont know at all hows your boyfriend related to tracking ice skating. i wouldnt say its trade offs when its unusable@@basilaldwin

I did buy more than needed yep, some parts are prone to arriving Dead (DOA). And honestly, I suck at soldering so bad. This was my first real solder project, so I'd say it's a good entry level soldering project.
If you guys make these, I want you to know that the slime trackers (at least the official) use 100mAh for ~1hour, so take that into consideration if you design your case for them.
i appreciate this video but you shouldntve soldered that battery pack and wires to the switch before assembling those boards into the enclosure. consider shrink wrapping and shortening the leads of diodes/resistors too. also that solder at 9:12 looks VERY spooky.
Yeah I ran out of fantastic examples for imu photos, that was my first first round of making these trackers, the photo at that time stamp is actually of a build that totally failed (I wonder why 😂) Shrink wrapping makes alot of sense, I've been using mine the way I built them here for about 8 months and haven't any issues, however. they just help whit tracking and insted of building a whole new tracker just connect a second imu and its basicly a new tracker just without battaries and d1minis. I havent build my trackers yet so idk the battery kife

I just wanted to ask, what was your reasoning for picking the 0forks/v3dev firmware version? For some reason it is no longer showing up on the firmware flashing tool, but not sure the differences between the different firmware versions.
v3dev used to have better support for some boards like the BMI160 during earlier firmware stable releases, but those improvements have been merged into the v0.3.3 stable
Not sure why most youtubers keep saying base stations are $200 they have always been $150 from valve...but anyways steamvr tracking over these anyday if you value your time and ease of use...unless you just have to sleep under blanket in vrc....
I got mine off Amazon for $200. I still wholeheartedly prefer these over my 5 vive trackers and four base stations. There is just too much freedom with slimes.
Sounds like the wiring is wrong or you're shorting somewhere. Mostly likely on the IMU, but potentially you're control board could be DOA. OR the IMU is shot. Best advice is to check your wiring, if you're 100% sire there no short. I'd check with a new IMU, lastly (even tho less likely) check with a new the control board

hi am new to vr waiting for quest 3 coming , anyway was thinking is there way to like use normal bluetooth trackers that can get cheep al need is a universal app that would track 1 or 3 or more trackers ,so buy many trackers pair to to body and bang there go as there the likes of tile or Samsung or air tag just an idea
I know that haratura X, mocapi, and others now work with the slime trackers. But bluetooth doesn't quite have the capability needed for low latency tracking unfortunately. I don't know of any projects that are utilizing it. Air tags only have GPS measurements, so they don't have the hardware capable to track.

This is definitely a project I'm going to do in time but I have an issue related to this I think: I have a Quest 2 and I feel the controller tracking is failing often. I'm aware it does it via the cameras and when it's not in screen it can't track (at least that's a big part of my theory) Now I'm curious if this improves with trackers like these? Or did I misunderstand how it tracks and there's just a hardware malfunction? It's not happening a lot a lot.. just enough for me to feel it can be better.
Maybe, since the imu doesn't require cameras, if you put your hand behind your head or something. It might still track well if you have elbow and wrist trackers, becuase those might be able to overpower the headset not knowing where your hands are at? Or maybe there's a setting to have the controllers not track location, that way the wrist tracker does it, and the wuest 2 can operate in The dark with only rotation tracking. I've never made any slimes, haven't ever looked at the software, so those are just my guesses .

@omnomgamer8633 The quest 2 and 3 use a mixture of IMU and IR led / camera tracking for the controllers. IMUs can only reliably track rotation and it is difficult to estimate hand position based on rotation. On the other hand knowing where your hips elbows and knees are is much simpler as you know how the bones move.
hi it's been 3 days and i still dont know how to set these up properly as when i calibrate it always calibrates wrong and while i heard the hip tracker may help the cord to make that work broke. I am not hating on the project but i think the cord was a bad idea because they can barely fit and because of that can easily break. I think it might be a better idea if the trackers can connect via bluetooth. I get that is 20 bucks extra but in my opinion it would be worth it if it doesnt mean breaking coards. I dont hate slime vr i just dont like the cord decision. Also, since so many people need help there isn't really much personal help. I get the slime vr is getting a lot of popularity but i think it wouldn't hurt getting a little more staff. Again i am not mad at the slime vr group i just wish they didn't use the cord thing and hired more staff to help the problems. I think slime vr has a lot of potential but i think a lot of the problems would be fixed if it were not for the cords.
Did you build yours, or did you buy them from the crowd supply? Personally I'm not apart of the staff at all, but their discord recently has been addressing some issues with some trackers not working. Id recommend checking their announcements in the discord server.
@cartoonandgamefanatic2.019 I'd try reaching out on their discord for support. OR look into getting new JST connectors as their pretty cheap, and you can replace the cable fairly easily. Also, yeah there's no real way the main trackers could connect to the external ones wirelessly, as they're just IMU'S, they need power from the battery and data from the d1. the whole point of the extensions is that they're a cheap quick method to get another tracker.
I believe so, yes?I haven't had experience making them eith the 1850's so I can't quite speak on it, the doc page does have a list of supported components, and there are also Forks in firmware (unofficial) that support different components aswell.
I do! Just set myself up with three more for lower arms and hip tracking! I won't lie, I've had to open mine up a couple times and fix soldering, or re sew some straps. But over all no complaints after the 8 months of use.
This project isn't for the faint of heart. less than one minute , something wrong .. htc 2.0 and 3.0 is the same tech and same chip same tracking accuracy , juste the architecture and the battery change ..
Holy crap you're right, i can't find any documentation for it being objectively better tracking.. I can't be perfect all the time 😅 Subjectively, I think they lose tracking a lot less often personally. Aswell as I "feel" like the latency is better on the 3.0s. But can't find any documentation for that at all!
Apparently? I apologize for that, I shoot alot of cinematic pieces for my clients, and when I edit and produce I use alot of music to drive the emotional building! I'm in the field of media production, a lot of shooting and editing freelance for my clients as well as producing. I'm just a nerd 🤓 I plan on showing soon another open source project for eye tracking with the quest 2! Once work slows down a bit, I'll start filming my installation of the components. (And probably for the quest 3 aswell as soon as STLs start coming out for it!)

Instead of splicing the wires to connect to ground I just run two separate wires to the switch hole instead for easier sodering

As for battery life I'm seeing about 13+ hours of playtime. I only charge about once very 3 play sessions.

Confirmed the new slime 4.0 (as of writing) has support for the bmi160s.
The butterscotch firmware removed the 0devforks because of this.

I'd say check your data cables. i had this issue a few times. might be bridged by a solder blob or even some burnt flux.
could also be a bad D1mini.

Question : why 2 IMU on you"re tracker?
it's just 1, the other is the USB charger for the batteries
is there any option if one is without a 3d printer? or is that required
i noticed Slime provides their own cases but unlike the other case designs i dont see instructions to what parts to get for it
@@ShadowTheLight there are tons of services online for 3d prints! my best suggestion is Etsy. or even ask your nerdeyst friend, nerds love printing things and they will honesty be flustered if you ask them to print things and they'll love you for it.

This is definitely a project I'm going to do in time but I have an issue related to this I think:
I have a Quest 2 and I feel the controller tracking is failing often. I'm aware it does it via the cameras and when it's not in screen it can't track (at least that's a big part of my theory)
Now I'm curious if this improves with trackers like these? Or did I misunderstand how it tracks and there's just a hardware malfunction?
It's not happening a lot a lot.. just enough for me to feel it can be better.
Maybe, since the imu doesn't require cameras, if you put your hand behind your head or something. It might still track well if you have elbow and wrist trackers, becuase those might be able to overpower the headset not knowing where your hands are at?
Or maybe there's a setting to have the controllers not track location, that way the wrist tracker does it, and the wuest 2 can operate in The dark with only rotation tracking.
I've never made any slimes, haven't ever looked at the software, so those are just my guesses .
As far as i am aware, the quest 2 only uses inside out tracking on the headset and uses imus for the controllers.
@@omnomgamer8633 hmm interesting.. Again it doesn't happen all the time.. Just take beat saber I need to hold the controllers in view for it to register hits, sometimes frustrating
@omnomgamer8633 The quest 2 and 3 use a mixture of IMU and IR led / camera tracking for the controllers. IMUs can only reliably track rotation and it is difficult to estimate hand position based on rotation. On the other hand knowing where your hips elbows and knees are is much simpler as you know how the bones move.

it's been 3 days and i still dont know how to set these up properly as when i calibrate it always calibrates wrong and while i heard the hip tracker may help the cord to make that work broke. I am not hating on the project but i think the cord was a bad idea because they can barely fit and because of that can easily break. I think it might be a better idea if the trackers can connect via bluetooth. I get that is 20 bucks extra but in my opinion it would be worth it if it doesnt mean breaking coards. I dont hate slime vr i just dont like the cord decision. Also, since so many people need help there isn't really much personal help. I get the slime vr is getting a lot of popularity but i think it wouldn't hurt getting a little more staff. Again i am not mad at the slime vr group i just wish they didn't use the cord thing and hired more staff to help the problems. I think slime vr has a lot of potential but i think a lot of the problems would be fixed if it were not for the cords.
Did you build yours, or did you buy them from the crowd supply?
Personally I'm not apart of the staff at all, but their discord recently has been addressing some issues with some trackers not working. Id recommend checking their announcements in the discord server.

@cartoonandgamefanatic2.019 I'd try reaching out on their discord for support. OR look into getting new JST connectors as their pretty cheap, and you can replace the cable fairly easily.
Also, yeah there's no real way the main trackers could connect to the external ones wirelessly, as they're just IMU'S, they need power from the battery and data from the d1. the whole point of the extensions is that they're a cheap quick method to get another tracker.

I believe so, yes?I haven't had experience making them eith the 1850's so I can't quite speak on it, the doc page does have a list of supported components, and there are also Forks in firmware (unofficial) that support different components aswell.
Question I ordered the D1 minis but I noticed I ordered them type C will that affect this in any way?

I do! Just set myself up with three more for lower arms and hip tracking!
I won't lie, I've had to open mine up a couple times and fix soldering, or re sew some straps.
But over all no complaints after the 8 months of use.

Subjectively, I think they lose tracking a lot less often personally. Aswell as I "feel" like the latency is better on the 3.0s. But can't find any documentation for that at all!
