  • Getting into the chassis on this Wanderlodge. The kingpin we were able to just add shims the bushings looked like new. Major air leaks, couldn’t build air over 80psi.
Another lightning strike that was a near miss just after we settled the insurance claim in the last one.

Hi Grease Monkey, A company called Keine Tool makes a tool to remove hub pilot wheels and also brake drums that are stuck. They also make several specialized tools that are life savers for mechs that are doing back breaking jobs. I bought clutch removal dolly from them and also the wheel, drum removal tool, and its a game changer for your back. Thanks, Bill

I was born in Tennessee. Back in the late 60's we moved to Upstate New York and lived there for seven years before moving back to Tennessee. My Dad pointed out how all barns and most all farm houses in NY had lighting rods, where he never remembered seeing any in Tennessee, even though Tennessee had many more electrical storms then we ever saw in NY. Just be sure to not make your bends in the ground wire to sharp. If you do it can cause the lighting to jump out of the wire and hit something in the direction the lightning was traveling.

A couple of days ago I just happened to think of my friend's dad from back in the 80's, he installed lightning rods and drove a truck with lightning bolts, in New Lebanon NY no less, this happens to me all the time.

You are correct make any turns as mild as possible. Lightning likes to fly off and go anywhere it wants!

@@tinysolarshack9615 I worked for AT&T as a power technician. When I was sent to Kansas City for the power school, the teacher told us how one of the Central Offices (CO), I do not remember where had a Church building next door. The steeple had a lightening rod on top of the steeple. The Ground conductor came down the roof and was bent back about 180 degrees then down the corner of the Church building. The lighting rod took a lighting hit and as the lightening traveled down the conductor it jumped out of the conductor, through the glass window to hit the ground buss-bar on the main frame.

My great grandfather was a lightning rod salesman in Upstate NY. He drove around both Seneca, Cayuga and Keuka lakes selling them to farmers for the Electra Lightning Rod Co. He made a pretty good living at it too. Many an old barn in my hometown in Upstate NY still have them on their peaks today. My favorite and very rare are the Cobalt blue globe lightning rods with "Electra" stamped in the glass.

Apart from the lightning rods I would suggest some form of surge protection devices on your wiring. You don't have to have a direct strike for it to cause damage. Our site telecomms have gas discharge tubes to ground out excess voltage and they've saved our systems many times over the years.

Hint. Have your machine shop buddy turn a lug nut socket into a drill bit jig. Each flat on the socket has a different size hole but at an angle so you are drilling thru the flats of the nut at an angle to allow you to drill nut nut and the taper without hitting the tapered seat of the wheel. You may have to send a wheel. 2 inner nuts and 2 outer nuts. One of each installed in the wheel.

Kingpins seem to be a chronic problem with these buses. Almost every bus that comes in has worn out, and often dry, kingpins. I guess "Out of Sight Out of Mind" plagues those parts.

13:07 If you noticed, the giant springs were bottomed out (not providing any more tension) and if there was still play between the leveling pad cylinder and pad mount then it may have been making a rattling noise. The bungee may have just been a noise canceller and not so much of a dumb idea as a quick fix.

When you install your lighting rods and ground system make sure your ground rods are good and deep. Also I am sure that chirt ground is probably like gravel and not the best conductor so occasionally watering the ground rod will help with conductivity

A good idea might be for BGM to run water from the washing machine drain hose to the ground rods to keep them wet and in good electrical contact.

I heard that old Wanderlodges with 8v92's sometimes had something called a Jacobs Electric Retarder. Apparently if you combine jake brake and the electric retarder it would give you aboot 350hp of braking strength. I heard that now days a company called Telma makes the same electric retarder that Jacob's used to make. I have watched a lot of your videos and i dont remember ever seeing one mentioned or shown, i have bad memory these days though....so maybe i forgot or missed it. Is this something you've come across or heard of ?
Hope the lightning mitigation keeps the strikes away from your buildings !

Unit would bolt to the 3rd member had a big disc brake that would get power sent from brake input worked good when set up properly they had some teething problems but was finally fixed believe they had wire's for the unit box hooked up wrong.

Can you use aluminum wire for those lightning rods or does it all have to be copper? I’ve seen it done on a bunch of farm houses in Barnes but I don’t remember everything.

    • @mikebuffing727
      @mikebuffing727 ปีที่แล้ว +3

There are certified UL system that use aluminum. I bet the conductors are upsized a couple gauge sizes over copper. I don’t know if the NEC has a section dedicated to it as ive never looked and mostly use section 330 and associated ampacity tables.

    • @garysoykin2783
