What's kinda sad is we've had Doom deathmatch with things like killfeeds (and LOADS of mods) for years with Zandronum and Odamex, but of course very few people went out of their way to mess with it
If there was like one ultimate multiplayer focused source port then it would be fine But of course doom community, being doom community, had to make multiple ones, adding to confusion

I did play around with Zandronum but the player-base started going down and i lost interest. With this i'm tempted to try MP again.
Yeah, the port fragmentation has always been an issue. Zandronum has hands-down the best netcode, but is poorly maintained. GZDoom is the best for modding thanks to Zscript (which is so robust that entire games are being made with it), but the optimization is very poor. Then you have many "vanilla" source ports that are very stable and well-optimized, but whose feature sets are quite restricted due to their intended purpose.

@@hurykles99i uploaded the okuplok coop version on the mod page, they just need to add support for modded maps + coop so it can work. Idk if ammo respawning is a thing in coop for this port, but if that’s a feature that is already in coop it should be very playable when multiplayer support is added. It makes the map MUCH more playable for Coop.
I spent like four hours on the co-op last night. The online thing was the least feature i was excited about in this release. Boy was i wrong. It’s so unbelievably fun 😭 Bro it’s just a giant awesome mess of an experience 😂
I love that its so simple. None of that "user killed this user with this gun" no "check points" you die you see the points and you just have fun. Simple things like this make MP games more enjoyable in my opinion cause its not about skill, its about fun.
well the original doom (along with quake) had death messages like that (id software invented them) so it's odd to see that they aren't there in this version

Honestly its not HORRIBLE. I’m sure if you tried playing online multiplayer on a boom source port this would be better than that. Wish DSDA doom had an easy to set up way to play multiplayer that ran this smooth so i could speedrun with friends

It's amazing watching a younger generation discover Doom Co-Op all over again. Nothing beats the sheer chaos of you and a crowd of marines roaming around the level like a rowdy football team out on the town. You feel like a menace.
Multiplayer in Doom - whether it's coop or deathmatch is insanely good and fun - always has been... but apart from the PC and the remainng core community (Gzdoom etc.) most people were missing out on this... this new release brings back multiplayer to the front and center and with ease!
I was a master of this game and competing nationally in multiplayer games on dwango before most of you guys were born. I'm glad that it is making a resurgence as it is still to this day the best multiplayer game ever made.
For me, it brings back the nostalgia of being a freshman in high school and playing the shareware version of doom on the PC in class of drafting design before that it was Oregon Trail with those huge floppy disc when I was seven
Okay here me out. 1) They need a kill feed of who killed who and with what weapon. 2) They need more customizations (maybe add color to text) 3) Kill cam (for winning kill at least) 4) They need to make this shit popular because Doom is the real OG of FPS lol I could see Doom classic making a much bigger comeback introducing new players to a classic.
The voice com during the co-op must be what it sounded like on the radio while Doomguy was listening to his fellow marines getting mulched and panicking before E1M1 started lol
The death match reminded me of being in the first public test of ZDaemon back in 01. It was the first Doom port to have client/server multiplayer like Quake had. There were dozens of us playing DM in MAP01. Knee Deep in the Dead with all the dead player sprites.

It's so cool to see Doom deathmatch alive. It would be even cooler, if it would also revive tournaments. But it could sadly be too old for younger people to enjoy watching. I even saw chat message of one of the younger generation, that said, that this game is too fast for them. Also I guess that in all that chaos it wasn't clear, but modern multiplayer means, basically most if not all modern multiplayer "ressing" mechanic. If player is dead, then countdown starts, another player must touch downed player's corpse to revive them. I am not sure what will happen if that time would run out, I guess that downed player will be dead, until the end of the map
totally worth 13 bucks. still keeping my old stolen copies for source ports like GZDoom, Zandronoum and ZDaemon but this is ABSOLUTELY worth the price. no vertical aim surprisingly but i know why they didn't add that
So after dying in co-op you spawn at a more advantageous position in the map? What about your weapon pickups? Are you back to pistol start just like classic co-op?

Let me host one for you next time, you can bring more viewers in. 🤣 Works with the Steam, Console, cross-play versions, etc. Nothing special needed for the other players, it's the host that is allowing more players than what makes sense.

I think the netcode will stay as it is, Quake 1 remaster multiplayer has the same issues. It's fine on low ping though.

There's a no monsters setting in the difficulty modifiers.
the usual cheats like iddqd and idclip work. you can clip out of the map and stand around there.
