The best review on this (or probably any) amp I've seen. Gets right into the demo and small, useful info along the way. You can tell how good it sounds even through phone speakers.
Burgs, I bought one of these, sight unseen, based on watching your video reviews countless times. This amp is fantastic. It is absolutely a Blues Jr. killer. I know why the major guitar stores don't have them in showrooms and only sell them online, they wouldn't sell any more fender amps if they stocked these. I can't recommend this amp enough to folks.
mdrake34 , Roland BC is fantastic but but despite of the format it’s not the same sound category of a BJ. The BJ is EL84 power tube and the Roland is very closed to a 6L6. The BC tube logic replicate the tweed kinda sound. The BJ remind very agressive on high end and cranked up at very low volume. To my experience you can compare the BC stage or artist with a fender blues deluxe. And the Roland is much better , lighter, more clean headroom and the crunch is more responsive. To find better in fender catalog you have to take a 57 deluxe or a Bassman which are more dynamics, complexes and tasty , but not the same price 😉 The BC is a very professional tool trust me
@@joni3039 I believe the BC stage/ artist etc. are modled on the Bassman, but the Hot is modled on the Blues Junior... Obviously the stage/artist etc have the interchangeable tone modules too... but yeah - I'm pretty sure the Hot is specifically modled on the Blues Junior...
A model review. Just the right balance of discussion and playing, concise and to the point, and a great cross range of tones. I'll need to determine how it does with pedals, but a demo like this sure makes it hard to not just take the plunge. Well done.
Don Adams I have one and am very happy with it. Previous amps before this were boss katana 100 and blues junior 3. I run boss bd2 waza through it but to be honest the natural gain with the volume is good enough.
Best purchase I ever made, or one of them anyway. If you EQ it properly you can make one sound like a '59 Bassman or throw on the bright, dial back the bass and middle, and you've got a '65 Super. I can a/b it against my hand-wired 1982 Fender Concert, the Rivera design, and basically match it on any tone. I think my tube days are done.
Great video as always Brett. What is worth mentioning is that the pots bass mid treble can be turned to 0 and you still have sound. It's a great starting point to dial in sounds if you want a clean sound with more headroom. It's a great amp and yes it is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Playing this amp at any sound level is maybe the biggest plus.
I did the same thing and I have zero regrets about it. It was nice having all the effects on the katana amp but I wasn’t super impressed with the sound. Switched to the blues cube hot 3 years ago and have been happy ever since. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. ✌🏻
@@danstringer7610 Actually kept my Katana because its the perfect powered cabinet for my Boss ME-90 but the Roland is an absolute beast. I dont know why anyone would get a Blues Jr over it.
First off Great Demo ....Overall: This Roland Blues Cube Hot amp is everything it’s advertised to be. I have always been a Fender tube amp guy. I purchased this amp and a Fender Blues Jr IV within a week of each other to compare the two for home use.Well I hate to say it and to my surprise the Fender Blues Jr IV I sent it back for a refund. The tone of the Blues Jr is very good over all but the issue is when you try to play at lower levels for home use. It just loses a lot of its tone and character at these levels. The Roland Blues Cube Hot on the other hand does not loose any of it’s tone at lower levels. It’s consistent with tone levels set on the .5 or 1/2 watt setting the 5 watt setting the 15 watt or the 30 watt, It just plain rocks the tone across the board and has it in spades. The EQ ability of the Bluest Cube Hot amp is really good and was more precise than the Fender Blues Jr. The Reverb on the Blues Cube Hot is also very good and very usable. In summery, to my ears at the the end of the day my conclusion was after playing both amps back to back for an afternoon of playing I just preferred the Blues Cube Hot to the Blues Jr IV. Also to be honest I can not tell by the tone ore the feel and response of the Roland Blues Cube Hot that it’s not a valve amp. With that said I was a bit skeptical of all that was being said about Rolands Tube Logic amps but not anymore. Roland did a fantastic job and I am sold on this little amp for my needs.Oh Ya...also the Blues Cube Hot it can get very loud as loud or louder than the Blues Jr IV. It also takes pedals with no issues. Also the Blues cube was modeled after a tweed style amp not a hot rod series Blues Jr. Keep this in mind when comparing it to a Fender Blues Jr. I call it like I see it and with that said I am glad that I am not a tube snob. I do hands down love Fender tube amps but if I had turned my noise up to the Blues Cube Hot amp I would have missed out on a great little quality amp for my needs.
I totally agree. I bought one earlier this year, after not playing electric for almost 40 years, and am pleased as punch with the sounds I'm getting out of this little box. I had been playing fingerstyle acoustic guitars for a long time, then decided, what with Covid-19 restrictions, to take up the electric guitar again to pass the time. So I bought a budget guitar, an Epiphone ES-339 Pro, this amp, and I'm having a blast!
I just bought one of these second hand, in near mint condition, for €260. I don't know what the guy was thinking selling it so low. It absolutely sings
People who don't know to set up their amp will probably initially hate it. It takes tweaking to get your sound, and if they're not already aware of how to do that....
It’s amazing how you can retain the tone at lower power levels, with a bit of luck you could dial it up at 0.5 in the house and not be too far off at 30 on the stage
After playing on this amp for 4 years now I do confess : I’m a tube-logic snob now 😜 I now own two blues cube hots ( this one and a el84 type) and a nextone 😇. I love m
How loud can the Blues Cube Hot get with a totally clean sound? Are the Nextone amps harder to dial in a good sound compared to the Blues Cube? Did you use your computer to alter the Nextone amp? Thanks in advance.
@@MrMoneyHelper hi, the bluescube can get LOUD 😱 I was amazed at the first gig with this amp. I play mostly indie pop/rock. It stays clean when played loud, and starts to break up when the boost knob is engaged . So no problem keeping up with a drummer. The nextone I only use the clean channel with pedals. Amazing pedal platform with a bit more bass response due to the larger cabinet. I only connect it for firmware updates. So I did not change any settings. Both great amps 👍🏻
@@lapk78 hi 👍🏻 yes I do actually 😃 I still play these amps in stereo. But no WDW setup. Just stereo out of my tc electronic flasback x4. I played tube amps from friends but for me this is the setup of my choice. It’s light, dependable, always reacts the same has more then enough power and sounds amazing. I love them and don’t want or need nothing else.
Great amp, raw simplicity with tonal pallets to be had working the guitar volume and tone. At its best on edge of break up, engage the boost for some magic and add tone if you need more air. Shame Roland did not send Brett the BC Artist to try. He could have done a great review with all the boosts, channel switching, trem and dual tone.
Friday, 17/Nov/2007: Wow, excellent demo ... I was going to buy a Blues Jr, until I watched this demo. I love the feature of lowering the watts for bedroom playing without losing tone. Also, in comparison to a Blues Jr. tube amp, it sounded better clean and dirty. Plus, no finger squeaking on strings from tube amps, and no tube hissing or tube humming. Also, I love the fact it has head-phone jack, which no tube amp will ever have. And, finally, I do not have to worry about expensive tubes going bad and cost of replacing them. The only problem with the Blues Cube solid-state amp is it is pricey at $699.99 (plus 0.06% sales tax $45.50 ) or $745.49 total price. And, the Blues Jr. tube amp is at $599.99 (plus 0.065% sales tax $38.99), or $638.99 total price ... for a solid-state amp, it is very pricey. PS: Prices are from USA "Guitar Center" music store posted on line for the 60W Cube and Blues Jr.
Thanks, great demo. I went to the store to get one and came out with the blackstar ht5r instead. Both great amps, I prefered the tone of the blackstar. Perfect for home jams and recording. Not too loud for appartment, I get plenty of crunch at discreet volume when lowering it down on the guitar. But this amp sound fuller at higher volume of course. Go try them both!
Nice demo. They've come a long way with the cube technology. I'm tempted to buy one (but probably the 80 watt with trem), though my amp builder friend would be certainly be offended. I really like the different wattage settings, as it responds how you would expect by maintaining all the sag, just reducing the volume.
Hi Brett, thanks for nice demo as always, but have you tried the USB direct recording function? Roland states that the sound through USB direct recording is just the same as that from the front speaker and very nice for recording at home, but there's no creator who spares time to focus on that function and I'm really frustrated to unable to hear what it actually sounds like. If you got some time, I'm looking forward to watching your review video about the USB recording. Thanks!
I did give it a go and from memory it wasn't bad at all. But that was nearly this time last year and I sold the amp shortly after to pay for the time it took to make the demo - so I can't grant you your wish, I'm sorry. It would be hard to say it's "exactly the same" as we're talking about a ton of different parameters like mic type, placement, preamps, etc. So I can't agree with the statement you've quoted.
FYI, here's how this amp works (sounds full) at low volume (.5 watt) without sounding thin. Volume set low, Bass 12 oclock or all the way up, mids all the way up, Treble set to guitar, then master 12 oclock or all the way up. Now you have a full sounding, low volume, practice amp with that on the edge of breakup sound. Use a pedal for the drive sound of your choice.
Cool demo, I tried the 80 Watter which pushed some air. I'd love to know what you think of the Yamaha THR100HD amp Brett. In fact a shootout of these new solid state 'modelling' amps would be kind of cool
You did not explain the use of the Master Volume. The amp has a solid-state Volume knob for clean, but gets dirty as you turn up the Volume, just like a tube amp with preamp-tubes. So, since there are no power-tubes in a solid-state amp, how does the Master Volume interact to everything in conjunction to the solid-state Volume knob?
Is it "city floor bedroom apropiate loud" with the lowest watts mode available? Cause I'm really getting into this amp but I don't want to be kicked out of my apartment XD
be cool if you checked it out with some of your favorite overdrive's. I'm always curious on how well a solid state amp will take gain style pedals....thx

I like it with the boost for the ac/dc rhythm , would it be good for jams , small gigs playing, guns n roses , ac/dc , the cult etc. Or club gigs with an sm57. I would use some sort of Marshall in a box pedal for leads . I am looking for something very light that can be carried on public transport , I was going to get Katana 50 but too much editing on computers and stuff and some problems lately with a few 50s. I like the weight and simplicity of this
My understanding is the nextone is a facsimile of the blues cube. Cut from the same cloth, the power the thing is supposed to approach the tone capsule concept, but it's a case of close but no cigar.
