    Hey man, I just wanted to say that you are one of the smartest, probably THE smartest mechanic I've seen here yet. Your knowledge is unsurpassed in your field but your common sense is unheard of in this day and age. I hope you see this comment bc you deserve to be told, well, you're the best I've seen, sincerely! I'm just starting off with my own shop and struggling and maybe watching you will help me

    Sick of that electric nonsense never works on old trucks .
    Layed in mud snow stuck .

    The holes in the transfer case are the infamous "pump rub." The outside tabs of the oil pump inside the transfer case rub through the case. There are a couple versions of modifications available to prevent that from happening. Both work well. It's very common, though. Anyone with one of those transfer cases should have the mod done. if you don't you'll have to replace the case half...not cheap, especially when it runs out of fluid and burns up the rest of the transfer case.

    Ohhhhhh " so now the transfer case is ready to come out " easy peasy lol. Turns out it was just a fuse for the automatic 4x4 switch.
    Honestly, this is a great walk through showing how to diagnose, how to look for key areas for trouble shooting and how to deal with the variables that come along. Reeeeeespect.
    Now I'm gonna go do some more damage than is already done trying to replace my transfer case actuator. Did I mention I'm a cook....this should be easy 🙄. Anybody seen my k-mart flat head screw driver , the one with the hollow plastic handle. Damn that's my favorite one , all the screws stick to its magnetic tip.

    thank you so much for this video i am having serious 4X4 issues i replaced the TCM [ transfer case Control module ] under the dash, dash 4x4 switch, front axle actuator and still no 4X4 and i have a brand new encoder motor not yet installed now i am going to check the wires someone told me today to check the wiring

    I can fully understand the reason for swapping transfer cases. I wish you would have caught the wire breakage in the harness and repaired it to see if the old transfer case would have then shifted properly. Hey I realize that's water under the bridge at this point, but it would have been great to see it. Thank you for your honesty and also not hiding the fact that you're human and crazy shit happens

    Just a tip when these motors show low oil pressure it’s very common for the o-ring on the oil pump pick up to be bad. If u put a couple extra quarts of oil in so where the pick up meets the oil pump is submerged in oil and u have good oil pressure then u know that’s the problem.make sure you drain the extra oil out right after too much oil can cause ur rear main seal to blow out among other gaskets and seals.

    Mine got stuck in Auto 4WD, too. Been troubleshooting and throwing parts at it for over a year now (including several removals and installations of the encoder motor on my back with snow and ice on the ground). After eliminating all of the expensive and time consuming stuff, I'm convinced that I must have a broken wire somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Hopefully it's something that, like you, I simply overlooked.

    Was the case porous from the factory or having the common GM oil pump wear?
    Pretty sure Transtar or Sonnax sells a “case saver” steel insert to keep it from wearing any deeper…

    Don't beat yourself up. Like others have said, we've all been there. So did the dealership charge you? If so, how much? If you bought it there they should have given you your one "get out of jail free".😊

    Also, those automatic transfer cases use Auto Trak II fluid, not Dexron.

    • @WrenchingWithKenny
      @WrenchingWithKenny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had contacted my local dealer to verify the fluid and the parts rep I dealt with said that the fluid recommendation was changed to DEX 6 From Auto Trak II . I'll verify that again come Monday just to be certain. Thanks for the information !!

      @johnaclark1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WrenchingWithKenny The way I understand it is 2007 and newer with Magna transfer cases use Dex 6 but the older New Venture and New Process automatic transfer cases use Auto Trak II.
