My 2003 silverado has that service 4wd light but you can hear the transfer case shift but I still don't have 4wd. Will it still actuate if the encoder is bad?
I have a 2000 Silverado, I'd has a different transfer case motor. The basic stick thing. I replaced that and the switch in the dash. Yet it is still stuck in 4 hi. I pulled the fuse as I was attempting to get it to switch to 2 hi and it stayed in two hi. Obviously I have an electrical issue. However no idea where that would be. Any suggestions? Lol
Did you ever figure out the problem? Mine is stuck in 4hi. I ca. Hear actuator trying to switch to 2hi, it only flashes. But it's still stuck in 4hi. Help😮
What indicates whether the transfer case and motor gear is lined up the same? I'm considering doing this myself, but I don't want to get stuck if it's something too technical, but maybe it's not.

All good until a week later and your in the same place... At least thats my problem. I've been hunting for bad wires, but starting to wonder if the tccm aint throwing some bad volatge. 🤔
@@JosephVollmar I had a motor from a previous transfer case swap that lasted about a week. I bought one from Rockauto that lasted me through the second half of summer and crapped out first ice we had. I ended up buy another cheap one off of Ebay and it's been working fine since December... I did replace the harness that feeds the tccm (motor) and cleaned up some grounds... So far so good. The one from RA did fry.
Ty bro I had same issues no lights on my 4x4 buttons and service 4x4 on my dash I went and put a new encoder motor on it and boom she’s fixed ty bro

Did you figure it out? My Silverado is stuck in 4wd Hi too. Buttons won’t flash when I click 2wd or 4lo, just stuck on 4w hi

Where did you buy your shift motor? It is entirely possible to have a defective part. I will not use Duralast for that very reason.

There is exactly enough space for the bolt to come out without taking off the drive shaft, if you fit between the yoke. Tricky, but possible.
