  • Tooth of the arrow broadheads reached out and asked if I would be interested in doing a review of one of their products. I, of course, agreed. I had a great time testing this product and was very happy with the broadhead. I started out with a test of the weight consistency. Then moved on to field point accuracy. I then moved on to shooting in to several sheets of drywall to test the penetration, and then checked the durability and ease of sharpening.

Now, I am not a bow/arrow snob. I don't get down in to the weeds of the optimum bow set up. I know you can go far down the rabbit hole of the best arrow spine weight, the best bow draw weight, optimal brace height, etc. All I care about is making accurate, ethical shots on what I'm hunting, and that they die as quickly and painlessly as possible. You might enjoy trying to find the perfect set up, and spending your time optimizing every piece of equipment you have, and by all means go for it. You do what you enjoy doing.

I shot TOTA broadhead a last year. They went through everything I shot at. I ended up buying more for this season.

Stay Sharp sharpening guides makes a nice jig for sharpening those heads. Ron Kulas has a nice video showing how to get them razor sharp.

I would bet that a slight adjustment to your rest (up) brings everything in line. Looks to me like the grouping of those broadheads is pretty tight

I did some intensive tuning before I screwed these on. Paper, tip weight to spine, bare shaft, distance paper/bare shaft, squaring up both ends, etc. Chasing as close to perfect arrow flight as I could get. Once I got it dialed in for a 125 tip and a 150 tip arrow, I screwed on some S series TOTAs in reg 125 and xl 150. At that point out to 30 m I was grouping broadhead and field points together. All the variation I had at that point was due to me. I really dig these things and hope to send them at a turkey. Also got their hand sharpener, works well for hand sharpening. I will recommend using the included broadhead wrench as they might stick in the threads a little. Nursing a couple fingers as we speak for my laziness (the wrench was sitting right in the desk). Don't be like me, they cut flesh really well. (didn't even feel the cut and left a heck of a blood trail).

I love TOTAs, but I too have cut myself more than once on them

I look to see how a head groups with itself.. Sights are adjustable for a reason.

in reality a broadhead should not shoot to the same point of aim as a field tip, the drag and arrow dynamics are totally different. i ALWAYS have to use a heavier field tip to shoot with my broadheads. i use 100gr broadheads. when i was shooting 4 blade heads i had to use 150gr field tip to match my broadheads exactly, now i am shooting 3 blade heads i have to use 115gr grain field tips to shoot exactly with my broadheads. i dont think there are any 115 field points made so i have to add a 15gr weight collar behind 100gr field tip. but my field points and broadheads do hit exactly the same with the heavier field tips. i shoot 1" orange stickers out to 50 yards with both.

That’s a great tip! Did that work consistently with different broadhead manufacturers? Or was it always slightly different?

@@InformedOutdoors i have found it differs depending on the amount of drag from the broadhead, a large cutting diameter 4 blade is going to have more drag than a small cutting diameter 3 blade. so a heavier field point is needed to match the big 4 blade head. i usually just sight in dead perfect with my broadhead of choice, then start playing with field point weight till i get an exact match (same hole as broadhead) at 10 yards and 50 yards. the only reason i look for a field point to match my broadheads is because shooting with broadheads all the time destroys my expensive targets too fast.

In reality, TOTA broadheads are very close to field point accuracy because most of the broadhead weight is so close to the arrow centerline.

@@njgrplr2007 that doesn't change the fact that there are blades sticking out from the broadhead causing extra drag, that isn't there on a field point.

Bro you have no idea how close you were to losing a finger on multiple shots. Short arrow with a fixed head and an open bow hand is a recipe for disaster. Stay safe my friend.

The real test would have been comparing the TOTA to your beloved Rages.

What do you think would be the best way to compare the two? I shot the Rage target broadhead to show how it compares to TOTA for broadhead tuning and penetration.

@@InformedOutdoors I I didn't catch those tests on your video. Would be interested to see the penetration and steel plate tests on the Rage.
