Does F.lux (FLUX) Really Work? Blue Light Filter test W/ Ghetto Science Applied.

  • A lot of my viewers asked me about f.lux and do I use it? Well the answer is I am going to be using it on all my computers from now on as it is simply an amazing program and does indeed WORK (and work well at that). This is also kind of a precursor to an upcoming video I will be releasing about blue light glasses and filters and do they work as well - you can probably see that the $10 hardware store pc glasses are working more than well in this video.
If you have any questions make sure to drop a comment.
Also here is a link to this amazing FREE program - justgetflux.com/

Thank you for this video, I was very skeptical about F.lux, I was scared it would lower my screen brightness too much, however it doesn't seem to lower the brightness, really just changes the "heat", it's crazy how much better you sleep after using flux, also went and changed my light bulb at home after using flux for a couple days to a warmer lighting.
Also, you deserve many more viewers, the quality of your video and content is mind blowing, I really hope you get noticed more!

If your monitor has RGB color controls in the OSD, you can get very similar results by just decreasing the B value. I have R and G both at 100 and B at 90. This gives a nice reduction of blue light.

I see the white too bright and the colors too black can anyone help me? I don't use glasses and my vision is great, I just have this problem, when I am watching a video I have to increase the brightness, contrast, and gamma, but when I am browsing on google chrome its a pain in my eyes that I can't describe, I have to lower it all the way down or I have to get away from that quick because my eyes start to feel discomfort and I have to blink hard and keep my eyes shut for a few seconds. too bright!!

Interesting, thx for the video. I'm using flux on my iPad for over a year glad to hear it works, I definitely like this warmer white just like incandescent bulb lights rather then fluo, fluocompact and stuff. BTW what if you change colors of your monitor yourself and make it that warm color? Just like you can do it with color presets that almost any modern monitor offers? For example "warm" preset...I mean basically that's what flux does for you right?

  • @Na0uta

Interesting idea to use software to reduce blue lighting, although i'm not too sure if i was to loose out on the sRGB i have right now with my IPS, it really make colors pop you know. did you notice any excessive color changes after installing this software?

    • @HolyScendron

does flux makes your eyes weaker or something like that? because I used flux for 3 years or more and my almost perfect vision went down, now I have to use glasses I'm not blaming flux but the color and the dimm maybe made my eyes weaker or something because I can't see clearly without putting something more darker and my eyes hurts a little and are a lot incomfortable with the light that everybody uses, like in a movie at night the screen for me was like the sun but for the rest of my family it was normal.

I appreciate the testing. Interesting results.
So, I was wondering, do you live in a ghetto or grow up in one? You seem to refer to them a bit. The constant reference to ghettos is a little surprising, no matter which context you're using (either a neighborhood filled with people of a similar ethnic background, or the later meaning of a poor, socially downtrodden neighborhood.) You can say whatever you want and use whatever terms you want to mean "unplanned and improvised", of course, but just thought I'd let you know the word actually means something to some people.
    Sincerely,
    someone raised in a ghetto.

    • @thebear3692
      @thebear3692 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Thomas Luk I have them and use them. I've tried Flux too before that didn't really help everything looked like awful + I'm a programming course student and I can't install flux on every single machine that I work with everyday, so yeah the only option left were the gunnar glasses. and the difference was insane I can't even look at the monitor with out wearing them my eyes just feel exposed. But I'd suggest trying Flux first and if you dislike it or like me haven't got the option to use it all the time. In my personal experience Gunnars helped way more, but again it really deepens on one's eyes and how sensitive they are some people feel no benefit what so ever. Just keep that in mind before buying anything.

    • @michaelweiss2186

Well I can still see the colour blue on my Windows 10 computer on a 27" LG LCD monitor while using F.lux on 1200k. So that means that it does not work. It does not filter all the blue light out because you cannot filter blue light out and still see the colour blue.

I think Eye Pro is better,it is very easy to use, as it can perform the necessary
adjustments automatically, based on the time of day. Late at night, the application increases the strength of the filter, and the change is gradual enough not to be noticeable. CapnTates - I get around that by lowering the brightness. I don't think it clearly states it anywhere in the manual/FAQs--but you can use Alt+Page Down or Page Up to change the brightness (which disables the yellow tint). So sure, it doesn't cut out blue light as it would--but brightness can play a part in eye fatigue so it still helps somewhat.

***** I tested in skyrim and system shock 2 (since I'm playing those atm) and what it does with me is show me a static gamma and when I change the gamma it flickers to the gamma I select and changes back to the last flux gamma, which in skyrim is not bright enough with my enb and in system shock 2 it is too bright.

I don't need Flux. I've already themed all of the websites that I visit regularly to be completely black. That way there's almost no blue light being emitted anyway.

F.lux doesn't work for me.I think Eye Pro is better,it is very easy to use, as it can perform the necessary adjustments automatically, based on the time of day. Late at night, the application
increases the strength of the filter, and the change is gradual enough not to be noticeable.

Doesn't really do anything. It's 12:29Am. With F.Lux on and then disabling it, the difference isn't that great. So that seems to me that my monitor was already pretty close in brightness to what F.Lux sets it to.

Why the actual fck do you need a jail broken phone to download this app. This could get Apple some money, what a loss.

This is misleading. You have not shown whether f. lux really reduces blue light.
Granted, the program does make your screen look "yellowish", but this can be done by adding more Green and Red light as opposed to reduce the total Blue output for the monitor.
I was hoping to find a video of someone actually measuring the Blue light output using an optical spectrum analyzer.

William.Szuwei Lin Did you watch the video properly? The brightness setting on the monitor has not been changed at all which is a static setting separate from the computer (my monitor has no OSD/scalar on it). So flux does work by reducing your white balance to the point where a substantially less amount of blue light is being emitted.
