“quita loves sports” put it the best and acknowledged that there are two groups making up the perceived fandom:
    1. CC/iowa/fever fans
    2. people using her as a mascot (racists/trolls/bot farms) they are not the same group of people.
CC and I share the same hometown so been a fan since the beginning. I miss watching when Group 2 hadn’t assembled yet and am now enjoying their exodus (or partial exit). And happy to hear HER speak about what she thinks

But honestly, the refs have certainly not given her any special breaks. CC hitting a logo 3 doesn't give her any extra points just because she's Caitlin. She hasn't bent any knee. Just being aware of reality. She has and will earn every accolade she gets.

If you read the article, CC talks about all the hard work she puts in to get to where she is today. She also discusses the history of WNBA with respect to black players, and etc. Then she "mentions" "white privilege" without further expounding on this phrase. I'm really trying to understand what the MAGA folks are so mad about. Bottom line is, it's so exhausting and annoying that both the MAGA and the BLM cannot just leave her alone and want to use her for their own agenda. While I completely agree white privilege exists, just as class privilege or pretty privilege exists, I’m not sure why it has anything to do with Caitlin being so popular in the WNBA. There have been so many incredible white players past and present (I was a huge Sue fan!), Sabrina, Stewart, Diana (also one of my faves)…but the popularity didn’t explode like this. To me, it was the underdog status of the Iowa program battling against the big dog programs in the championships, of course her style of play, her relatable quirky but very likeable personality, her sarcastic humor in pre/post game interviews, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s a swifty because us Swifties support our own lol 🫶🏻 So many reasons to like CC, I get why people have enjoyed watching her play and following her success.
There are certainly racist trolls that are taking her Time comments too far, and good riddens, but there are level headed people who don’t think it was necessary for this to even be brought up at a time where she should have been celebrated without a “but” involved. Maybe she has had or will have some benefit with white privilege in her life, but it’s not what got her success in the WNBA, and that’s what people are annoyed with.
Also, yes troll fans have been racist, but CC has endured racism as well, but nobody talks about that. Nobody has stuck up for this girl in the W, so the fans and media have done it. It would be nice to see some respect for CC within the league. Just because she is white doesn’t mean she should be left to fend for herself. This league needs to start unifying or else all they will attract are people looking for a race war. If they keep the drama out of the league, the trolls have nothing to feed off of.
I would have loved to see a mention of Sheila Johnson’s asinine comments l, but do appreciate that Sue reminded people that CC didn’t apologize for being white, as she shouldn’t. I have seen many black fans embarrassed that she felt the need to do that.

Clark's competition for Time athlete of the year were the likes of Mahomes, Wembanyama, Lyles, Ohtani and the like. Clark is the only WNBA player who belongs in this group.
Besides, Clark set the WNBA on fire in the 2nd half of 2024. In the first half of 2024 she was busy setting WCB on fire. Some would argue that Clark became a beacon for the whole game of basketball (female, male, pro and collegiate).

Homophobia is about prejudice or discrimination her belief rooted in faith, is not homophobia. She’s not expressing animosity or acting harmfully, that’s her faith. She’s playing basketball in a catholic school. We don’t all have to believe in the same thing as long as we’re respectful towards each other.

About Taurasi. I sweat that first game out between Fever and Mercury.
I didn't like Diana(and had never heard of her until this year) until she acknowledged CC having a bright future post game. But for many players she was right. It is a big jump. But saying that stuff definitely made winning against her a bigger goal for CC. But obviously Diana is still very good. I have rewatrched a lot of this past season over again.
About bigotry I remember the shitty comments about Brittney Griner. That pissed me off. Trolls make me sick. I always push back. I didn't hit the '93 march on Washington to then later on lay down for stupid sexist bigots.
I love my lesbian and "tomboy" sisters. We family.

Meagan & Sue, as someone pointed out, in the article we were never given the questions that was asked of Caitlin to put into perspective, context and tone of Caitlin's answers. And whole lot of people have then put on their interpretation with their bias based on hearing half a conversation. A lot of people have not remembered what Caitlin has be saying all year and who she is.
A lot of the criticism has been hijacked for peoples own point of views and agendas and promoting their agenda has nothing to do with Clark and what actually saying.

I listened to this whole podcast, and there is soooo little of actual substance being said by these two. Megan, particularly, rambles on and on (15:45 - 23:00 just is total garbledegook) without any discernible points, but plenty of quasi-intellectual word soups and soft concepts like "narratives". It's a sign that this podcast needs actual professionals, not merely 2 athletes. They both also [predictably] didn't address the real elephant in the room, the Sheila Jackson comments (which have been widely lambasted). Part of me fears that these folks are on the same side of the coin as a jemele hill (with the idiot jason whitlocks of the world on the other side of the coin), where a particular niche extreme worldview is the only lens through which analysis is done... Meanwhile, reasonable normies
are left thinking: "Am I taking crazy pills?" Caitlin is saying it's easier being white, and that she has earned it though, and that okay, and that she is the cause of the growth. She does not need to share the accolades. She also did not bend the knee or whatever. This entire "dialogue" here on this pod is just so blahh.

💯!!! I think self-importance is a sign of ignorance bc you think you know so you aren’t curious enough to discover and learn. Rapinoe has that in spades. So self important most of what she says is gobbledygook. And she isn’t even willing to learn something else. She’s already decided and spews out judgements with the same jargon that reinforced her rightness. Unfortunately the only one that loses is her.

I find the hipocracy of this whole league infuriating which is why I stopped watching years ago and only came back when I fell under the CC trance in the 2023 final four.
You can't be an activist league during the most well documented and protested Genoside in the world's history and stay completely silent. If you all had or have any Pali players have you protested for them? or Congolese or Sudanese?
When Caitlin was getting far more than typical rookie hazing, and when A'ja came out to say that CC owes most her popularity to racism and said thats why they gave her a shoe deal, implying she didn't have one, then sent all her racist fans to attack. All the while she knew she had her own deal? Did you stand up for her. Did anyone that has a balanced perspective on racism in America? No. IMO A'ja is primarily responsible for kicking off all the racist on both sides.
You say you want to talk about uncomfortable truths, well the truth is CC faced a ton of it this year, not just from trolls and racist fans, but the league, the players and the media. That's the truth. And when CC made contrary arguments to TO HELP THE LEAGUE move forward, the idiot Mystics co-owner came out and undid everything to that end. AND only Lexie Brown came to her defense. Where is A'ja, Dijonnai, BG and AT now?
Wake up because we have. Either be truth tellers or lose your intellegent audience because we're tired of the gaslighting.

Even if white privilege exists, the big question is how big of an impact does it have. If anyone thinks that CC only gets all the awards she got because of WP, then you have never watched her play. CC is a great player and even a better team player. AJ is a great player, but does nothing to elevate others.

Ms Bird you are amazing. Such a take on the reality of race in America. What other way is there of changing things other than to first acknowledge there is a problem? I haven't figured that one out yet in its totality because well, people. All I can say is race is buried in almost every aspect of our life. Pick a topic and tell me it's been washed clean of race. Caitlin is smart enough to understand what role race has played in her success. She also recognizes her personal gifts in getting to where she has got to. She wants to help so let's bite the hand that is feeding you? Seriously people again get a grip.

Yet again these two miss the mark . Every week I try to give them a chance and every week I find Megan more annoying than the last. Evidence not everyone deserves a platform. Side bar- this was a good opportunity for Sue to speak on what Sheila Johnson went out and said considering she too is a part owner of a W team and yet again they prove bullying and bigotry is only acceptable when it comes from within the W.

Please explain what is the difference between "WHITE PRIVILEGE" and "PRIVILEGE", as I understand Clark has worked bloody hard all her life to be the basketball player she is today, and what I know of her growing up was nothing different than any other middle-class family in the USA. She certainly did not have all the privileges that were being stowed on A'ja Wilson growing up who attended nothing but elite schools, personal academic tutors, and individual basketball & fitness trainers. So which one had privilege???? The one that has a statue of herself out front of the college she attended and does nothing but cry "BLACK VICTIMHOOD" to get her way, like the Nike deal.
Let's be real, Clark does not have "White Privilege" What the whole issue is about is a handful of players that are downright plain and simple "JEALOUS" of Clark's amazing achievements for women's basketball and women's sports in general.
