    Soooooooooooooooooo happy you're seeing the light at the end of those dark days. Like Spring has sprung
    You look and sound so much better
    Yeah you may have some bad days but that's it, you've turned that corner. I'm proud of you. Hope that doesn't sound patronising. If anybody deserves happiness and contentment, it's you. You're an inspiration and I only wish more people with mental health issues were to see your videos and take some hope from them
    You're a star Jonny
    Love yourself and love will find you :-) X

    Great to see you making such good progress and learning to love yourself. Some of your previous recoverlogs can be hard to watch when you have been so self critical. I must confess I have been know to shout at my iPad! You do so much to inspire and help others and it's good to hear you devoting time and energy to looking after yourself. Sometimes being on your own can be difficult but it also allows you to flourish in other ways. Thanks for sharing this good news and your positive thoughts. Keep up the good work.

    I'm really pleased for you Johnny :) you're such a lovely person and you deserve to recover and feel more positive within yourself!! Glad the CBT sessions were helpful, I know the waiting lists can be dreadful so its good you were able to get your 12 sessions. I'll have to search up that meditation app, I have a mindfulness colouring book I do and that's helpful for when I feel overwhelmed. Hope things continue to get better for you!! :)

    Hey Jonny I hope your well just know I am REALLY REALLY proud of how strong you are but also how open you are about everything I also had CBT therapy for my anxiety the first time was 6 sessions but then I had to wait 3-4 months and I had 12 sessions on the NHS too it was fantastic and really helped!
    I cannot believe what you have been through however you are such a strong, caring, loving, sensitive and funny guy I will always remember our time at school but this message is all about YOU! I am really proud of how amazing you are yet you have been through hell and back though you keep on fighting and staying so strong I couldn't ever do that at times my anxiety gets the better of me but I fight it of which isn't easy.
    I am ALWAYS ALWAYS here if you ever need to talk keep strong and keep the strength up because its made you into the man you are today and I am honoured to even know you!
    Lots of love and sending BIG cuddles your way

    thank you so much for sharing your experience with all of us. it really means so much to me to see somebody feeling similar things! i had no idea that the intensity of my intrusive thoughts/images was something i should mention to somebody until you mentioned you had them too, i knew exactly what you were talking about.. i told my therapist about it last week and she diagnosed me with OCD.. i'm slowly getting closer to feeling safe in my own head and i'm so so so glad to see that you seem to be feeling better recently too! all the love x :)

    So glad to see you're doing well. CBT worked very well for me, and I also meditate and perform Reiki. It helps me focus my mind away from intrusive thoughts, and focus on love and more positive things. We have our ups and downs but its a learning process in how we handle our illnesses and its get easier over time x

    I am so happy, it's fantastic to hear that your feeling slightly better and more positive. Don't apologise for putting time into yourself it's clearly what you needed to do and all who follow your journey want the best for you and we'd rather you do that then be around on social media and not be happy. I think righting positive things about yourself is a brilliant idea and one i think many of us could do as these days we are all really hard on ourselves and there's so many pressures. I hope you continue on this path, much love x

    Your videos originally inspired me to create mental health awareness content but I've recently been attempting some spoken word too:) You are more than enough on your own, you don't need to feel wholly secure in yourself (because no one can be) but self-love is so important. You've touched and will continue to lift up many people. But putting yourself first in terms of your health isn't something to apologise for. Lovely as always to see a new video from you but don't feel pressured to throw yourself into the deep end again where social media is concerned. Hope you're having a great day x

    Hi Jonny, I can relate so much to what you were saying about hating yourself, and finding it difficult to love yourself. With help and support (for as long as it takes) I'm sure you will reach a point where you do begin to at least like yourself. You are worthy, you do matter and you will find a way to live alongside your illness. There is no rush, don't put so much pressure on yourself, savour the 'good' days, and take each day as it comes. Thank you for sharing your journey. Keep fighting Jonny, there is hope..

    You're such an inspiration! I'm 16 years old and I don't even dare to go to a therapist since I've got social anxiety and suffer from excessive blushing (on the bus, in school, even at home). I used to have friends but now I avoid meeting them. I've had these problems for a year and before I never felt suicidal but atm it would feel better to just end this life. It must be better to feel nothing rather than fear.

    Congratulations on your progress Jonny. It's great to see! Someone near and dear to me lives with schizophrenia. I watched them go through the lowest of lows and thought that would be the way they experience the world for the rest of their life. But thankfully I was wrong. While it wasn't quick and easy it does get better. It will get better for you too. Learning to love yourself will open up your life to so many possibilities. Some days are fine, some days are not so good - then I watch your videos and I like them because they are so real, with ups and downs. And it gives me hope when you say you're getting better and that you see progress. Because of your channel I don't feel like I'm the only one with these isuess and I feel more optimistic.

    I've been reading the art of happiness by the dalai lama for about 3 years because there is so much in there to ponder. One of the many important messages in that book is that to love yourself and be happy, we should practice the art of compassion and be a kind hearted, decent person (i.e. the sort of person who helps a stranger on a bridge). You come across as such a thoroughly good natured person. I genuinely believe if a little old lady dropped a bag of oranges in front of you, you'd stop to help her pick them up. So I wish that you would be kinder to yourself and see the goodness that is obvious from your videos. Its a lovely thought that a man might come and rescue you and make your life better, but I came to the conclusion in my own life that having a really strong wish like that is putting horrible amounts of pressure on a person/relationship before it has even started and making it hard for it to work out. I dont think that level of reliance on someone else before you've even got to know them is the best plan and if it went wrong you would find it much harder than if you can be self reliant to start with and go into a relationship in a less dependent way. You dont have to reply as I think we should all prioritse spending our time working on our psychological wellbeing xx

    JONNY,Warmest congratulations from Donald in Wales. For years you have worked with FIERCE determination to explore yourself, get better and tell us about it. Your victories help us all. Deep down you knew and TRUSTED all along that there had to be solutions -- a response to your intense prayers. And now your emotional investments are paying off.Great that you are learning so much about all the incredible techniques available to us spiritually determined humans here on Earth. Spirit has provided all these tools for us during this tremendously important time in human history. However, none of these tools work without Self-Love. As you know.Brilliant that you have gradually released the hunt for a partner to love you unconditionally before you could love yourself. You needed to act out that misleading belief you had. However, it IS true that we are all loved unconditionally by Spirit and Life -- which makes it safe for us to learn Self-Love. But I think it's too much to ask for unconditional love -- whatever THAT is -- from a partner. You want a colleague on the path too, don't you -- not a saint.And I strongly want to say that YOU DON'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE for not posting many videos recently. Each soul must choose what is best for it in any moment -- so that's what you have been doing. That does NOT include apologizing for putting your own needs first. This is guilt. Maybe even some JEWISH guilt. And the opposite of LOVE is not HATE, but G-U-I-L-T. So whenever you catch yourself feeling G-U-I-L-T, that is the part that hates you. But then, Jonny, that sub-personality needs you to love it. Crazy world, isn't it! But GOD always win. We need to love our self-hatred. SELF-LOVE FOR OUR ISSUES AND PATTERNS IS WHAT HEALS THEM.Emotional Ownership + Choosing Self-Love = TransformationKeep up your great work and share it with us only when it feels right for you. You are helping others just by being totally committed to your own process -- whether or not you post videos about this.So consider that as my loving and playful little GOTCHA for you -- catching you in unloving self-guilt. Interesting process, isn't it.Donald in Wales

    • @mrjonnybenjamin
      @mrjonnybenjamin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Donald Johnson It is an interesting process indeed Donald. Thank-you for all your messages. I never fail to feel inspired by what you write to me. Your words contain so much warmth and wisdom. From the bottom of my heart, deepest gratitude.

    • @donaldjohnson491
      @donaldjohnson491 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jonny Benjamin 1 -- Thanks for your positive feedback. I crave recognition and appreciation as much as the next person. I just feel guided to talk about GUILT again. Jesus, but the British love to say "sorry" all the time -- drives me crazy. We don't need to put ourselves down in this way. Regret, maybe -- as part of focusing on a lesson we need to learn. But full-on GUILT is a killer. I say, "The opposite of Love is not Hate, but GUILT." It's just an habitual technique we use to deflect criticism and keep ourselves small. Instead, CHOOSE SELF-LOVE -- over and over. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. You're a star, Jonny Benjamin -- and so am I. -- Donald in Cardiff

    LOL! I'd just completed 6 weeks of CBT (online chat). My therapist thinks I should try psychotherapy instead, as CBT wasn't working for me. So back to GP for referral.
    I've also tried to read 'the power of now' a couple of years ago. Couldn't get through the first 2 chapters. But since you are reading it now, I guess I'll try it again.
    I too look at dating websites exactly for the same reason. But I don't do anything about it. I keep telling myself that I'm too messed up for anyone. But wouldn't it be nice. I see a lovely face and their lovely writeup, and I so wish I can change or they can change me etc.
    Good luck and take care, fellow sufferer. We will get there!

    I started following you on Twitter after watching the documentary on channel 4. I found your story both sad and positive, sad that you'd come to this situation on the bridge, but positive in terms of someone saw your plight and as a result you're still here today. I've not been following this vlog because I wasn't aware of it, but I intend on going back to the start and seeing where you've come from to where you are now. I've never been in a situation to feel I need to end my life beyond not accepting myself the way I am (I was born with Spina Bifida), I've never accepted it and have disliked other people and myself because of it. I have an incredibly supportive partner and having done one 6 week session with a therapist am going back soon as my journey from that perspective is still ongoing. I am far from perfect, both in terms of how I see myself and how others see me. I see you as somewhat of an inspiration, both in terms of the challenges that you face and how you are dealing with them. You are proof that things can change, no matter how slowly things happen, any change is a change for positive if in the right direction.

    Jonny, I'm so glad that things are improving for you, and that you are getting into spirituality. As a student of spirituality myself who is also on the journey, I know that it can be a great tool, because even the dark moments are part of transformation.
    I had two thoughts as I was watching your video. The first regards spirituality and having someone with whom to talk. In many spiritual traditions, spiritual directors accompany the person on the interior journey. Good ones will work together in conjunction with health professionals toward wholeness (Bad ones will deny science altogether and should be avoided at all costs). Perhaps this might be an avenue for you to pursue.
    The second thought I had is this: the Japanese practice the art of kintsugi, in which they repair broken ceramic bowls by painting the cracks gold. The philosophy behind it is that the brokenness is simply part of the object's history, and so the bowl is not thrown out but beautified, and its flaws are recognized and made beautiful and not hidden. I think it is the same with us. None of us is perfect, and our imperfections and flaws make us uniquely beautiful. In good spirituality, we recognize this truth as well. Our flaws do not make us useless; they are not the end of our story. They are part of who we are.
    I wish you continued health, Jonny, and please know that I accompany you in spirit. Take care.

      +Emiel Abalahin thank-you Emiel for your thoughts. A spiritual director or teacher would be wonderful. I shall look into this. I am already aware of kintsugi and in fact sent a very similar message to a friend last week who is unwell and struggling in hospital. It's a powerful message. Thank-you Emiel :) Namaste

    Hi Johnny, I have just come across your channel and appreciate all off your openness, I have been going through similar issues for about 6 years with bad digestive issues which put me into a world of anxiety and such which caused me to be bed ridden, house bound and such.. I just wanted to let you know that I also read the power of now which as you know is a great book to learn from, I wanted to recommend another book I read at the time which is simpler to read but I think it really does compliment Eckhart tolles book. It's by a women called cheri Huber and called a guide to self compassionate self discipline. It's an orange cover with a purple flower on the front if I remember correctly. Any ways I wish you all the best and if you want someone to talk to feel free to contact me. Dan

    Afew years ago I suffered with what I thought was depression (didn't go doctors because I also have anxiety) it's taken me a good 3 years and I still get supper bad days where i can't stand it but I'd say I'm better. I exercise 5 days a week (if I'm not ill or have a body problem) which has helped me in so many ways. I suffer with very bad panic attacks, ones where I stop myself from breathing and I can't move. But I'm getting there! My boyfriend and has helped me so much over the past 9 months with overcoming everything. But sad thing is he's got depression and anxiety but it's alot worse than mine was and is, I'm trying my best and I've given him all the things I used and all the tips I was given. I guess we are all different but it's hard you know, seeing someone I love hating them-self. Just wanted to get out how I feel because it's hard and I know you'll care, hopefully xx

    Great post. you remind me of a version of myself albeit a more attractive version lol. You have a great insight into the disorders and mental health. Don't put to much pressure on yourself to recover so that others may take example from u. take ur time to recover well your self. Your blogs form an invaluable help to fight the unwanted mentally! together we can all be stronger and reduce the rate of suicide associated with our mental disorders and suffering. Onwards and upwards! Maybe someday I will find a nice guy. tho in the mean time I think its good to practice loving urself. Love and hope. D xxx

    I guess all any one of us can do is take life one step at a time. We all have some kind of burden we must bear. Those who say that they don't, that life is easy, are either lying, self deluded, don't know anything about life or are extraordinarily fortunate. Keep moving forward, good sir even if, it feels like you're just taking baby steps at times. Moving forward by baby steps is still movement forward.

    Keep up the great work Jonny! The love of my life has schizophrenia and has now completely blocked me out of his life, and I don't want to give up. I feel so lost and hurt. I don't know what to do or if there is any hope.

      +Cindy Nyx Ravenmoon i'm so sorry to read this. Try writing them a letter with all the things you want to say. Letters are often more powerful than dialogue. It must be so tough for you. Don't give up. Where are you based? Have you tried speaking to a mental health charity and seeing what advice they can give?

      I have been sending him an email once a week for the last 6 months and he has only replied a few times. My therapist says not to give up like you said. Last Sunday he took me off his Skype contact list and this devastated me because I don't know if I should still try to email him or not. I live in the U.S. This disease has ruined not only his life but mine as well. I love him and don't want to give up but at this point I feel so lost and depressed. I needed to talk to someone like you who has this too for answers. I need to know if he will ever come back to me. My friends don't understand any of this and tell me to move on but I can't. They think he's just an ass, so I keep this to myself and my therapist. I'm losing hope. If you have any answers I would be so grateful, thank you!

    Glad that you're feeling better recently. My cousin's suffering from OCD at the moment but not accepting help because she thinks she can do it on her own. I think CBT probably would help her.
    Also I kind of think I need someone to love me in order to love myself because I don't see much when I look in the mirror.

    • @mrjonnybenjamin
      @mrjonnybenjamin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DJWhovian I get the whole looking in the mirror thing or someone paying me a compliment, i hate it!
      Sorry to read about your cousin. That's so tough. Give her time and keep reminding her how much you love her. Write a letter expressing your love for her and how much you want to see her get better. Just an idea but it may help x

    • @DJWhovian
      @DJWhovian 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jonny Benjamin 1 Thanks. Yeah sounds like a good idea. Just talked to some people about the mirror thing on Facebook and got some good advice about thinking of what I'm like inside, concentrate on what I'm good at and that someone will love more for my personality then how I look. Just got to find him :). And hope you do too

    I'm going back to the GP on monday because my depression and anxiety is spiraling out of control again. In the past they haven't really known what to do but I'm hoping this time may be different. I've tried several different medications none of which have worked and numerous therapists, only one who helped a little and that was unfortunately cut short. I am starting a mindfulness course next month and I'm really looking forward to it

    • @mrjonnybenjamin
      @mrjonnybenjamin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martin sorry to hear that Martin. I really hope the mindfulness course helps, i'm sure it will. It's helped me a great deal. If you want to get started early a good place to start is Mindfulness For Beginners-an audiobook by Jon Kabat Zinn. It changed my life. I hope it may help change yours too.

      +Sarah jt thanks Sarah :) sorry to hear about your friend. I made a video on tips for dealing with mental health issues. It's on my vlog-called Mental Illness: Your Recovery-i talk about things like exercise, diet etc. Maybe encourage your friend to go with you for a walk? Take them out for a healthy meal? Plan things ahead for them? Above all, keep being a good listener and supporting them as i've no doubt you are doing. Hope they begin to heal asap.
