I would like to thank you for making so many tutorials on this software. it really helps to have consistent and professional tutorials, and to know that if I want to do something you probably have a video on it, instead of having to search through the internet. while not focused on gameplay editing like I do they are still very useful. Thanks!

I'm so glad I found this video!
I'm new to LUTs, and am going to get a Mavic 2 Pro. The Hasselblad camera supports DLog-m and HLG modes, which totally opens up color grading to a whole new dimension.

Hey Maliek, i know this video is old but ive only recently. in this video u mention about color correct the footage before applying LUT, but is it easier if the footage was shot in LOG and makes applying LUT all the more easier and uniform? and what happens if i apply the certain LUT (say its meant for canon GH4) but used it on a footage shot using a device thats not on any selection?

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Nothing happens, it just applies the LUT. If you like it keep it on the footage.

    Hi Maliek,
As usual thanks for the video and for your work. Due to your early videos I started my own chanel and learnt a bit about PD.
I am currently still on PD14 and thinking about upgrading to 16 and... I still have some doubts.
First of all, cool about LUT and colour grading as in PD14 I din't have much to improve. PD16 has plenty to offer but is it possible to scroll timeline horizontally? I mean, Shift+Mouse Scroll ?
I would upgrade only for that to be honest as lack of it makes my life harder... :(
Every other normal program is working that way but not PD. I even bought myself a Logitech Master MX because of its second scroll for horizontal movements and sure... works on everything except PowerDirector... surprise :/
If not Shift+Scroll maybe there is any other way?

    • @PDU_Tutorials

There is no way to scroll the timeline using the mouse that I am aware of.

    • @PDU_Tutorials

If you have PowerDirector 365 they updated PD 19 a few months back to add the ability to change the % of the LUT. Just update the program using the CyberLink Application Manager.
If you have the stand a lone version of PD 19 then you have to hope that CyberLink released a patch that you can manually download and install to get the LUT % update. www.cyberlink.com/support/index.html

They really don't go into PowerDirector. You Browse to the location of the files on your PC and select the file to import the LUT and apply it to the image/video. The file extension needs to match the types of LUTs that PowerDirector can import. Also, LUTs can be finicky. .Cube files may need to be converted to .3dl files, the capital c might need to be changed to a lower case c in .Cube files, etc. In other words, it may be something that takes some investigation to figure out. You might want to share the files on the PD Forum to see if anyone there can help you out. forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/63720.page

My guess is that since Cyberlink also produces _ColorDirector_ they don't want to cut into the sales of that piece of software, so they only include the very basic level control of LUTs. Keep your eyes open, though, because sometimes Cyberlink offers ColorDirector as an incentive to upgrade to the "Ultimate" or "Ultra" version of PowerDirector. I picked mine up for basically the cost of a standard upgrade. ColorDirector does all KINDS of things with color that PD does not do, including some really excellent masking and just about everything you can think of having to do with LUTs.

It appears Color Grading Central doesn't support PowerDirector. They only offer it in Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut ProX.

In PowerDirector 17 Ultra, Ultimate, or 365 it is found under Fix/Enhance > Color Presets & CLUT
Do you have one of those versions or do you have the free version that came with your PC/laptop?

A little confused by this video. You had a big selection of LUTS and chose one randomly that made your footage look bad. I didn't see the advantage of using it, and how do you know which one to choose (the names all look the same)? Also, if color correction has already been applied to your shots, what is the purpose of using a LUT in the first place? Lastly, if you have an hour's use of footage, do you only use one LUT for all of it, or can you use several (say, for interiors and exteriors)? I went to the Color Grading site, and they ask you which of three editing programs you're using, and none of them are PowerDirector... which LUT do you choose? Sorry for so many questions, Maliek.

This is just a video showing you how to apply LUTs. I could have selected one that made my footage look like a blue whale and the process to apply a LUT would be the same. 😄
You should know which LUTs you downloaded. You select the best one for your recording device, for a look you want, or you can try them and test them to see which one you prefer.
I use LUTs for grading, not for correction. Since I like the look of the LUT and I am using it for grading I make corrections first and apply the LUT after so I don't mess up the look of the LUT. It's really up to you which one you do first. nofilmschool.com/2016/08/should-you-adjust-your-footages-color-or-after-applying-lut
You can split your clips and use as many different LUTs as you want.

So, it seems the most practical approach is to limit LUTS to a singular clip OR "clip sequences" (i.e. night scene sequence in similarly lit locations) as oppsed to slapping one LUT onto an entire project...
