My husband and I eat at Shady Maple quite often- we’ve both lived in the area our entire lives. Shoo fly pie is made with molasses. Red beet eggs are made with Red beets, vinegar and sugar, in which hard boiled eggs are marinaded. You should try Shady Maple on Tuesday night for the seafood and Wednesday night for the Prime Rib. And on your birthday, your meal is free when you have a paying person with you.
I absolutely love it when Joel goes “oooooooo” when something hits right. He’s just so darn handsome and it’s cute lol.
See, others see the ugly faces too, and just love it when you smile. It shows how cute you can really be.

Shady Maple is the best buffet around. The "red egg" you ate is called a "Red Beet Egg." It's a pickled egg made with red beets, vinegar, sugar, and water. It's a Pennsylvania Dutch classic recipe. This is one of my favorite places!! I'm so happy you went! Definitely missed out on the neat things in the gift shop underneath, and the market next door! It's literally an all day adventure when my family and I go - and we can barely walk with how much delicious food we stuff our faces with. The doughnuts from the market are always a takeaway they are so heavy and delicious.
I loved the ending, it was like watching a baseball broadcast buffet version, shady maples is pretty awesome I went there years ago, the whole downstairs is a huge store, all kinds of Amish made stuff

Shoo fly pie! I was born in Pennsylvania and my grandparents lived in Lancaster so that is a blast from my past! The Amish would sell it at flea markets and we always buy a pie.

Shoefly pie is traditionally made with Turkey Syrup, you can substitute 1/2 cup molasses and 1/2 cup of corn syrup. When buying a shoefly pie always ask for a wet bottom shoef!y pie

I grew up with those foods, shoe fly pie is molasses, the red egg is hard boiled egg that is soaked with beets when they can the beets.

Red beet eggs. Beet juice, beets, sugar, vinegar and hard boiled eggs. Gotta let them soak in the mix a few days. I live 30 minutes from Shady Maple and those eggs are popular all over Central PA
You should check out the nordic lodge. It's a upscale all you can eat buffet in Rhode island I believe. It's about 100 dollars per person. Let me know if you gave ever heard of it :)

Red egg = Pickled Egg as known in the PA Dutch Country... Shady Maple Smorgasbord is the bomb at least for good home cooked food around this area. I live in York County which boarders Lancaster County so it's about a 60-minute drive for me; dependent on whether you get slowed down by horse & buggy traffic. Some great things are Mondays is Steak Night, Wednesdays is Prime Rib Night, and on your birthday your meal is FREE... Thanks for the video!

Yesss! I've been looking forward to this for awhile! I live an hour away and I go a few times a year. Honestly I've only had dinner there once. I always go for breakfast. You get a free meal for your birthday, can't beat that!

I've been here before. This is about an hour or so from where I live. Glad you were able to experience this. It's free on your bday 🎂it's not a Red Egg it's a pickled Egg. You hard boil them and marinate them in Beet juice. It's a PA thing.
Shoefly pie is a mollasses pie. History says, they made them to keep the flies away from your foods n other desserts. Then ppl starting eating them. Like hush puppies. Made to hush the dogs up when you were frying fish. They made n threw them to the dogs. Then started eating them to.
Shoefly(named for always having to shoo the flies away while it's on the cooling rack or windowsill : ) is Amish(Pa, Ohio)and made with black molasses. It is sometimes called a crumble pie.

The red egg looks like a pickled egg. Usually they are pickled with beets which gives them the red color and they're very tasty!

Having grown up the area where Shady Maple is I have been there a few times over the years. Did you know you can eat free on your birthday? It's a huge buffet for sure and they have something to eat for everyone. I haven't been there as much since moving to Harrisburg when I married in early 2000 but was there back in September for a family members birthday. The food was fantastic. Glad you guys had a great time. :)

You know you eat Free there on your Birthday!! (You need an official ID)..and if your birthday lands on a Sunday(Amish do not work on Sundays) Shady Maple is closed. You get the free meal on Saturday or Monday, I recommend Monday if you can get there, it's way less crowded.

Omg I think this my favorite videos out of all your videos because you hit my hometown area and I just went shopping at the Shady Maple Grocery market yesterday and I was telling my husband and my parents I can't believe you came down to my area next time whenever you came back my area you should trying the Hershey farm buffet restaurant it's not that big big like shady maple plus you should tour around the area especially in the city Lancaster PA I hopefully my husband and my kids and I we meet you especially do a food challenge thanks again for coming to my hometown especially my favorite childhood buffet🥰
Shoo fly pie is table molasses base with a malted crumb top. & that red egg was a red beet egg. It's a pickled egg with beets and beet juice. It's like a sweet n sour egg. Those and apple dumplings are staples in pa dutch food. Along with chicken pot pie(dutch style)
This buffet is 30 mins from me btw. Whenever my bday is a Saturday I go cuz it's free on ur bday and Saturday buffet is like $28
