This happened to my sister before, someone stole her MacBook at the library. We handled it ourselves too, we found out he was trying to sell it on a website and we posed as the buyers with different names. We had her serial number which is unique to a laptop. We met at the student centre in the university (public) just for security purpose and once we checked the laptop and found it was hers, we legit shouted at him "thief" lool he was scared he ran off. We contacted the police and they arrested him and banned him from the university premises. Turned out he had been doing it for a while.
@@RayPossibleGT a police guy told us that's what most of them that steal stuff do. So, considering the timing the post for the laptop went up on the site; kijiji, it was easy to find him.

He barely benefited from what he took. Yeah, he used her card for gas and food? But still. All he got was a free meal and some free gas, those don't last forever. He'll be back at it again in no time.
I have a friend who's a detective and I asked him how things would pan out if I involved the detectives and basically, there is no way they would ever put me in contact with the person. The only way I would ever see them is if we had to go to court which could take up to a full week.

As someone who works in law enforcement, I’m 1. Disheartened you don’t have enough faith in your own local agency to address this for you that you feel the need to take matters into your own hands. And 2. I highly recommend you do not confront the individual yourself. Confronting someone like this is ridiculously dangerous, you have no idea of their history or what they’re capable of or if they have weapons in their home. I get you’re frustrated but that’s no way to handle this situation. This also isn’t a good message for your younger following. Good story time yes, but not the proper way to handle said situation. You can still involve the police and just say you do not wish to press charges on the individual. This is just a very naive approach and I’m honestly a bit surprised you handled it this way.
When my place was broken into and robbed, Police absolutely did nothing even with fingerprints, camera footage, and other damage left behind. I would have done the same. That's why she doesn't want the police involved because it's not high on the priority list. Rightly so. And that is why WE would do such if able to.
Its frustrating for citizens to wait until law enforcement, solves the case of the stolen purse and her i phone. Cops are slow at solving cases and closing up files. It could lead to a dead end, especially if the guy doesn't have a criminal record.

As someone who works in law enforcement, I’m 1. Disheartened you don’t have enough faith in your own local agency to address this for you that you feel the need to take matters into your own hands. And 2. I highly recommend you do not confront the individual yourself. Confronting someone like this is ridiculously dangerous, you have no idea of their history or what they’re capable of or if they have weapons in their home. I get you’re frustrated but that’s no way to handle this situation. This also isn’t a good message for your younger following. Good story time yes, but not the proper way to handle said situation. You can still involve the police and just say you do not wish to press charges on the individual. This is just a very naive approach and I’m honestly a bit surprised you handled it this way.

When my place was broken into and robbed, Police absolutely did nothing even with fingerprints, camera footage, and other damage left behind.
I would have done the same.
That's why she doesn't want the police involved because it's not high on the priority list.

And that is why WE would do such if able to.
Its frustrating for citizens to wait until law enforcement, solves the case of the stolen purse and her i phone. Cops are slow at solving cases and closing up files. It could lead to a dead end, especially if the guy doesn't have a criminal record.

Although I agree with you but sometimes it's better handling it yourself I live in California I was involved in a Hit and run I called the cops I have pictures of the girl that hit my car and her license plate. This happened over 2 months ago and the police have not gaved me a police report, as a matter of fact they haven't done anything at all!! I keep calling them all they can say is we are working on it to be patience.. ugh no I'm trying to find this person whi was under the influence so she can pay for what she did!! Thank god Nobody was severely hurt and I did have my children 4&5 yrs old who were scared af!! I'm still looking for her to this point
Jeana you are freaking badass! In the moment I am sure you were feeling so many emotions. My house was robbed when I was 8 mos pregnant so walking in and just feeling like unsafe and so many questions running through your mind is overwhelming but I feel you handled the situation awesomely and I hope you get to recover all of your things and like you said karma comes around so whatever you put out into the universe comes around. Funny story, i got robbed almost the same way, except it was my idiot neighbor and of course they didn't confess so...... i stole her puppy.
Suddenly after she found out, i got my stuff back and even a apology., not very sincere but still...
