so cool that they left the lights on in the tunnel for you! In general, what a smooth ride, super nice to watch - thank you!!☺and what a cute etymology for the name frieda^^
It was very kind of them indeed! I'm delighted to hear that you throroughly enjoyed the ride!!✨️ Isn't it? Such a cute name for an S-Bahn :)) Thank you for being such a kind and loyal member!!^^
für 5 Jahre war dies meine goHome Strecke . Stadelhofen - Zumikon . Danke fürs mitnehmen in der S18, der wohl ruhigsten und gemütlichsten Tramstrecke der Stadt Züri.
It was a tram, then it became a suburban train, then an underground, then a mountain railway. It's hard to find such an interesting and enjoyable train window. From a Japanese railway geek.
You're certainly right about that! Absolutely fascinating line!😊😊I'm glad you enjoyed it! Many greetings to Japan with many fabulous railways there too!
@@hugobazin8052 Thanks for the quick reply! In Kyoto, Japan, there is an interesting line called the "Keishin line", which transforms from an underground to a mountain railway and finally to a tram. On the underground line, platform screen doors are installed and the train automatically starts and stops, whereas on the surface line it operates manually according to the ground signals. The trains look like ordinary suburban trains, but they are so custom-built and high-performance that the price per metre of car body is rumoured to be the highest in Japan. th-cam.com/video/ESk0zSH2Wx8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-BBFRkCw41HhZH5o
Hi! I've heard of the Keishin line, it's really fascinating!! I mean, it's crazy what certain situations call for in terms of unique innovation in making a line work! Just crazy to think that you have such a mix of different operations on that line :))
Thank you very much. This video helps me a lot for my novel project. The person in my novel is travelling in Zurich using this special S18. I’ve never been there.
No way!! That's amazing!! I'm so delighted to hear that this video helped you with this! A return journey will be posted soon, so if you need more insights, you can use that too!! Send me the book when it's finished✨️✨️
So cool that you were able to film S18 Forchbahn I was in Zürich last week and i was going to buy a ticket because i had some unfinished business So i went to the ticket machine but someone had forgot to press No for a recite or something, and the machine printed a ticket. It was a 24 Hr ticket within zone 110 I looked around to see if someone came back but no so i got a ticket for free 😄
The Forchbahn was a big help in making this video (I think a lot of drivers are secretly fan of my channel🤭)!! Ohh hhahahah! Amazing!! Well there you go, free ticket! Terrific!!
hank you for sharing this video. A very scenic trip from the city centre out into the countryside. The planned works should improve the efficiency and usability of the line.
You're very welcome, even more scenic in real life when you see the mountains! Many lines in Zurich should see amazing improvement to this already impressive network!😊
A welcome addition to the collection of Zurich's S-Bahn cab-rides. There was another over this route several years ago (in the opposite direction) which seems to have disappeared. I recall the only tunnel section then was that between Forch and Scheuren. It may well have been withdrawn since the new underground section came into being. For the sections to be doubled, I wonder what sort of land grab wil be taking place. The trackbed is a mere strip of land between a main road and houses.
I'm very happy to hear that! Well the Zumikon tunnel has as explained in the captions, been there for quite a long time! Some land will be taking for the doubling as a tunnel at that spot extending the Zumikon tunnel would simply have been too expensive
Thank you Hugo for another very interesting video. Unfortunately, the printed information you give underneath the video relates to the previous video of a trip on the S10 Uetlibergbahn.
Hello Roger, I'm very sorry about that, it has been corrected since... I believe that TH-cam did not save the new description when I was editing it yesterday! I hope you still got to enjoy the video though :)
OK, I'm ready for my first solo. The black knob is forward-go, rear-brake. The right-hand black fiddly thing is the pretend gear clicker. All the other round knobby things are for pressing every now and then.
I love how the traffic ligt looks the same as Dutch, but whit a little difference. The 2 outer whit are yellow(prepare to stop if can) and the middle is red(stop) Also we call it a negenoog or translated: nine-eye
Ahhhhhh!!
Another very good video which would have been a lot better if the camera was over to the right by 50 centimeters so that the upright was bot so prominent.
Thank you! Yes I agree that the camera was ever so slightly missplaced and it was just a bit of a rush when recording as our train arrived late and as you can see, because of the curve in Stadelhofen at the start, when I checked, it seemed like you could see very well with that angle :/ But the return leg which will be posted in a few weeks/months will have a much better angle :)
Thanks a lot!! It's amazing to have people watching from Latvia! :) The switch you mean are the warning blinkers I think, to warn passengers at tram stops with a visual cue that the tram is moving
Swiss is one of the countries I wish to visit if I got the chance. .....What if the camera is on the front (outside) so we have no distractions like the dashboard and the other stuff. I watched few other videos recorded like that with spectacular view. Thanks.
You should! You can find many such videos with just the view, but my focus is on showing the ride from the driver POV! It's what most people prefer, sorry
The side blinkers, like on trams, when they are arriving or leaving at a stop, they have orange lights on the side to alert people of the presence of the tram... same here, except the driver even switches them on to pass stops the s18 doesn't stop at :)
@@hugobazin8052 The reason for this is that the indicators in the Zurich tram system also control signal priority. It is basically a request for a “green wave”.

They have the most calming next stop chimes :) memories...
Those early cold mornings, so sleepy, ahhahaha
Indeeeeed! Very calming, almost so that you'd fall asleep and stay on the train riding up and down forever!😁

Sir what is the gauge of these trams? I think they're narrow gauge
Yes they are! They use the standard meter gauge, the same as most of the trams in Zurich! You'd be correct on that matter ;)
Black switch bottom right? On and off all the time?
