- BMW 1 Series 2012 (F20) Upgraded With The BimmerTech Apple CarPlay MMI Prime System. Run-Through of System & Features
Following our super popular BMW i8 Apple CarPlay system from the guys over @bimmer-tech we have been upgrading a decent amount of other BMWs with the MMI Prime System to offer Apple CarPlay and NOW Android Auto!
In this video we're working on a 2012 BMW 1 Series with the pretty awful and out-of-date CIC iDrive which nowadays can't even connect to a modern day iPhone for Bluetooth Handsfree.
Once installed it will offer all the favourites such as Waze, Google Maps and Spotify! Certainly bringing this vehicle into the 21st Century and keeping you safe whilst on the road!

I have an BMW f20 (2012) without Bluetooth combox, So I cannot connect my phone, do you think it will work? Or do you need bluetooth from the combox in the car?

use bluetooth dongle in the car center armrest and connect it to your phone then what ever you do via speech goes through the dongle into your car for speech etc i use it for alexa so maybe its kinda the same thing
Hi idk if you sorted this or not but I also have no combox but wish to add CarPlay. You can see at 1:08 this car has no navigation option meaning they probably don’t have a combox either

Not at all. You’re making an unfair comparison with no factual evidence.
You’re referring to a totally separate product that is not integrated which isn’t a fair comparison.
We’re offering a system that fully installs to a BMW to give you factory style CarPlay. We have to take it apart, install, refit, offer warranty etc. The process takes about 3hrs.
We’re not the cheapest out there which we are very transparent on but we are good at what we do and the equipment we supply is fully supported.
From the margin we make we have to pay for things like Wages, Mortgages, Bills, Taxes etc.
If it’s out of your budget then that’s fine but please do not call a business a Rip-Off it can be very damaging.

But here in the US I found a Bimmertech certified installer and my Bimmertech module should be coming in either this week or next.
He quoted me about 2-3 hours to make sure it’s done correctly and said if there is any issues they will take care of all trouble shooting for me which gives me piece of mind.
I paid $975 for the whole service.
Do you guys also use Bimmertech?
@@icwienergaming 100% agreed. One quick look on aliexpress and you'll find countless 10 inch hi-res displays (complete with carplay) for only around 300-350. You can find an installer in your area who can do these retrofits in their sleep, willing to do it for 150-200. I suppose these guys could argue that the equipment they source, their professionalism, their process, etc. warrants the insane price hike but in actuality, I've surrendered my peace of mind to companies like that in the past only to get piss poor results, issues, etc. so like anything in life you never really get a guarantee lol. I'd personally go elsewhere and save an arm and a leg.
How do you input into the apps? Can you use the controller to add a destination or do you need to use your phone?
You use the existing iDrive Controls

Yes your have CIC. I recommend you, Change of Display( HeadUnit)
to Carplay HeadUnit is not expensive..mine cost 300€ and
it is easy to install.
