I thought this kind of device was to mirror your phone while driving I’ve never seen it with the Apple TV hooked into it lol. I don’t think this will work with my 2025 Camry because it has wireless CarPlay. In my 2022 Camry, it has wired USB A CarPlay. It’ll work with that one.
I have Google TV. I’ll give a shot. Have a 2022 ram warlock and it comes with everything you have. Cant wait to try this. This video is great. 👍 i dont think i even need that device you mentioned in the beginning unless it somehow makes it all work? I also have a bulletpoint cellphone and tablet holder that works great. I am a little worried about the tablet sitting in the truck on hot days or just getting stolen. Maybe I will buy a safe design for my truck. Seen those. Both ways are great. I like your idea. It’s definitely a good option
My 2013 Chrysler Town & Country Touring L has hdmi and 110 power outlet and 2 rca inputs inside the cabin from the factory. They were way ahead of the game.
Cool will see if I have car play in my 17 Ram. I didn't subscribe to satellite radio after the initial subscription. I've been wanting to view video on the screen the best I found some years back was a cable that could be connected to the radio itself. But you have to take the radio out and connect to specific connectors for video and audio.I didn't want to risk messing up my radio when I can play video on my phone and use bluetooth for sound at least. Thanks for sharing!
@MrDwaynePoff I haven't tried it yet. I just found out that both of my phones have android auto. I thought it was an app. A previous phone use to read my text messages through the vehicles Bluetooth. Anyway, so I need to connect my vehicle to the phone through this Android auto feature. It says it will allow phone apps to play so we will see. I'll update you. ✊🏽
Dustin, I loved your video. super helpful. one thing, though, I'm having trouble confirming is, can you play video apps from your phone to your car screen with this device. Scenario: I buy this device. I don't use a firestick, appletv, etc. I simply want to play TH-camTV or AmazonPrime from my phone onto the car's screen while driving. Will it do this?
i’m not too sure either, but what i was thinking of doing is getting a roku stick off of amazon, which basically is a smart tv which would have any apps you need. i believe you would also be able to mirror your phone to it since it would recognize it as a tv!
Thank you very helpful. I think if I had it gifted to me, I would definitely do it however, there’s four sellers on Amazon actually there’s more than that and they’re all under four stars three point something that’s typically somewhat of a cautionary warning. Perhaps you can address the consistent issuesmentioned.
I’m an Apple Junkie too. Instead of using an Apple TV can I connect an iPhone? Currently, while waiting for my wife I watch movies on my iPad with audio going thru CarPlay.
Lowes has craftsman tools. I only bought a few craftsman wrenches to complete what I lost. Need to find out if they will actually exchange my craftsman rachet.
Ran a virus check on mine and found 3 forms of Malware. After removing it , it would even work. Looks like it set up to pull all your info to include your logins and password.
Also you can get the internet on your phone and connect the phone to the Roku using the iPhone hotspot. On occasion my home internet goes down and I use my hotspot to connect to my Roku. However that can use allot of data for streaming if you don’t have unlimited. In my car I have a car plan that gives me unlimited data on it through AT&T
Wal Mart sells an IPhone to HDMI connector for $45. It lets you connect your phone to HDMI devices. Probably a similar device available for USB C connections.
I tried Ottocast a couple years ago and the experience was the same as using mt IPhone with CarPlay. The video was fine but the audio delay was too annoying and I just couldn’t watch it. 🤷♂️
It just uses the Apple Play app to display on the screen anything you plug into the HDMI should come up on the screen. If you buy Android boxes they will work on it too
You didn’t mention that when you use one of them you lose Apple car play, so you have to unplug that and plug your wired phone back in, wish they added wireless Apple car play
I have a mini hdmi output on my aftermarket deck connected to Google Chrome cast and I just use my phone as a hotspot. Then I go to my Amazon prime account and any thing Im watching in my home I can continue right where I left off at in my car and vise versa.
Well, that’s fine if you’re in your driveway but why not just go in the house and watch it? I can see this being useful if you have movies downloaded to a phone or iPad and have an hdmi adapter or even if you use your phone as a hotspot and have unlimited data. Otherwise, why?
I wouldn't necessarily want this for watching TV as much as I would want it to access just about any Android app I wish. Watching TV would probably be better and wiser on a 13" - 15" tablet.
I'm glad I checked first. From Amazon "About this Item" : Not compatible with Tesla, BMW, Honda Civic, Honda ZR-V, and Toyota Land Cruiser. Ensure your car has factory wired CarPlay for integration. Note: Requires a paired Fire TV Stick remote to control.
I’ve got another video on how to add CarPlay to a 2014 or 2015. They did not come with it from factory, so you have to swap out the HMI. I recommend White Automotive and Media, they are who I used and couldn’t be happier. Had it for several years now.
So now, not only do I need to worry about the idiots fooling around with their phones and the crack/methheads, but now I need to worry about even more fools watching tv while driving.
They make this awesome device called an IPad 😂 works great for home, auto and travel. No messy cables, great battery life and much better resolution than your vehicles screen. Just connect via Bluetooth and the audio can play through headphones or your car speakers. Best Buy had them on sale for $199 👌
Too many wires. I feel like I’ve seen stuff that makes this a lot easier with less wires. But at least it’s an easy option for ppl that want it. I just bring my iPad and i don’t really watch it for the ppl that will attack me about it but it’s just different having it running than just playing it thru speakers. I’ve have never had a ticket or accident ever in my life and i own 3 different Hellcat vehicles so obviously I’m not distracting myself. Yes a Ram TRX , Durango Hellcat and a Daytona Hellcat Charger.
Instead of Apple TV , just buy a USB-C to HDMI cable . Connect iPhone to ottocast And avoid more cables and devices in vehicle.
This is a GREAT idea!
@MrZACATECANO100 great suggestion, do you own the same OTTOCAST unit and can verify this cable works and functions the same?
But will it mirror ALL apps, Apple has strict DRM POLICIES with mirroring
I thought this kind of device was to mirror your phone while driving I’ve never seen it with the Apple TV hooked into it lol. I don’t think this will work with my 2025 Camry because it has wireless CarPlay. In my 2022 Camry, it has wired USB A CarPlay. It’ll work with that one.
The question is: will the iPhone still charge while connected to Ottocast?” If not, then it’s a dealbreaker, particularly on long roadtrips.
Ive always wanted to figure out how to play movies when I’m out on hunting and fishing trips. Thanks man!!
This works great, and the sky is the limit to what you can plug in. Been very happy with this.

Me at a green light playing madden with people honking their horns😂
lol
Me, going for it on 4th & 26 0.9seconds in the 4th quarter, down by 3. 😂 on SuperBowl mode. PACKERS vs. CHIEFS
Is your Apple TV connect to cellular data? How are you streaming anything from internet based apps while you’re driving?
Hotspot
You guys remember when we were kids we couldn’t watch tv all day. 😂😂😂
Just bought one from your link, thanks for the great video!

Did it work?
@MrDwaynePoff I haven't tried it yet. I just found out that both of my phones have android auto. I thought it was an app. A previous phone use to read my text messages through the vehicles Bluetooth. So you should be able to use a fire stick then as well
Yes

Easier solution: mount your iPhone onto a MagSafe charger on your dash, turn it into landscape mode, and... open Netflix. 🤣🤣
Thats what I do lol, and then you dont have to buy another apple tv and bluetooth device
Hey, at least you’re honest about the stuff that you like…
Beavis & Butthead is a great show. 😂 Mike Judge is a true legend of comedy.

Can we use a Roku Streaming stick 4k
how is the audio is it off?
I’m an Apple Junkie too. Instead of using an Apple TV can I connect an iPhone? Currently, while waiting for my wife I watch movies on my iPad with audio going thru CarPlay.
Right? Kind of should have been the first device to check/show… lol at least an iPad if he doesn’t have an iPhone.
Get the apple av adapter
Will this work with aftermarket car play radios?
So , if I have TH-cam premium or Netflix and I have downloaded clips, can you play them ?
Lowes has craftsman tools. I only bought a few craftsman wrenches to complete what I lost. Need to find out if they will actually exchange my craftsman rachet.
will this work on my hummer h3 2006 with a add on car play system thur my pioneer radio ?
Does this work like if i plugged my android phone into the cast thing?
Ran a virus check on mine and found 3 forms of Malware. After removing it , it would even work. Looks like it set up to pull all your info to include your logins and password.
Does it work with your iPhone as well?
Is there a sound delay when using the Apple TV?
Does it work with android auto?
I don't see why not. I think he used Apple play because that's what he uses at home.
What year is your truck and did it come hard wired?
How about something that will hook up your iPhone to watch movies streamed via cell phone…
Will this ottacast work with a stock Sierra denali ? I still have the factory radio
What year is your Denali? Did it come with Apple CarPlay?
@DustinT 2014 no.
will it work for android auto?
What about using roku stick? How is that powered and gets to internet!
Use a small inverter that plugs into your 12 volt power port to power the stick
Also you can get the internet on your phone and connect the phone to the Roku using the iPhone hotspot. On occasion my home internet goes down and I use my hotspot to connect to my Roku. However that can use allot of data for streaming if you don’t have unlimited. In my car I have a car plan that gives me unlimited data on it through AT&T
Can you test with Hotspot and see if the conection would be strong enough
Also does the picture take up the entire screen? Or is there black bars on the side
Great video! How could I watch you tube off my phone that is plugged into my car using Apple play?
Wal Mart sells an IPhone to HDMI connector for $45. It lets you connect your phone to HDMI devices. Probably a similar device available for USB C connections.
Do this work with a 2014 gmc sierra
What about internet or Wi-Fi wouldn't you need that as well
Will it work with a wireless apple android carplay
Does it work with android box like google Chromecast?
I tried Ottocast a couple years ago and the experience was the same as using mt IPhone with CarPlay. The video was fine but the audio delay was too annoying and I just couldn’t watch it. 🤷♂️
How about WiFi to make work Apple TV?
Hotspot from your phone
Thank you 🙏🏻
Any issues with audio lag? I have seen some similar devices but some people have complained audio lag (lip sync).
yes i have no doubt this device is like all the others. especially if going through a wire less setup.
Does This work on a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT
I think not..my 14 is not hard wired for it
It's works with apple only or we can use android too? and what about Roku?
It just uses the Apple Play app to display on the screen anything you plug into the HDMI should come up on the screen. If you buy Android boxes they will work on it too
Thats awesome man thanks for sharing we need that so bad lol
You didn’t mention that when you use one of them you lose Apple car play, so you have to unplug that and plug your wired phone back in, wish they added wireless Apple car play
they have one for 5 more dollars than the standard
@@itsuplike9947 can you tell me where to find it
Does this work if you have wireless CarPlay
I tried it with my Firestick and I can’t it mine to work in my Cadillac CT6
Great video man!
Nice!! Thanks for this vid 😊😊😊
What about AUDIO LAG?
Most important question can you stream a movie from your phone or tablet?
I have a mini hdmi output on my aftermarket deck connected to Google Chrome cast and I just use my phone as a hotspot. Then I go to my Amazon prime account and any thing Im watching in my home I can continue right where I left off at in my car and vise versa.

Ngl.. I’m in a car all day.. and all I do is watch shows trough YT.. barely listen to music anymore these days
I was thinking Roku stick. Smaller for vehicle use.
Thank u…. U gave a better idea ❤
You have a nice car and we would like to sponsor a Tesla-style screen for you. How can we contact you if we can get your permission?
Ive been looking for an Tesla-style screen for my 2017 silverado 1500 LT. Id like to be sponsored! How can we go about that?
Smart guy! great vid!
I wouldn't necessarily want this for watching TV as much as I would want it to access just about any Android app I wish. Watching TV would probably be better and wiser on a 13" - 15" tablet.
I wonder if this will work inside of a Ram I know it ain’t apple CarPlay but it does have a USB😂
What did you install to get apple car play? I have a 2014 LTZ and never figured out how to get it working

@@DustinT thanks.

Be cooler if you could just stream TH-cam to your truck without all the in between connections. Too many wires for me. That would drive me crazy
Agreed, I listen to music on TH-cam and I’m searching for a way to control it on my truck screen
@@frankburkett7453 you and me both brother.
Silverado speedo goes to 140 - why??
But I did that w Roku lol. But I found out that just get an iPad open ur hotspot and ready
Anyone experiencing input lag with gaming consoles set up??
Will it work on a 57 bel air 😂
I wish my friend 😂

Can’t play your Xbox/ps5 on an iPad
Just keep it simple.
And then have a latency through the Bluetooth that is so annoying you would want to take your advice and shove it. Lol
Is iPad built into your factory dash?
You're cute @@rickygodette
My car has wireless carplay. Bummer. Dont think this would work for me.
Can you do a demo in the 4Runner, please?
Exactly the video I’ve been looking for the rest of the devices are pricey at $300+
I just android auto on my z fold 5 and have a holder that holds it with the phone unfolded.
Do this require WiFi in the car ?
No, you can hotspot to your cell phone if you want. That’s what I have to do
Don’t we already devices that already do this for the past 10 years?
What about android auto
Apple apparently as a similar way that has been out for years. Now it should work for Android.
Not working on my mercades
don't work in my locust either
Where can I buy?
Just added a link for you in the video description
@@DustinTthank you, do you know if it will work on a 2021 gmc sierra 1500 slt?
You bet! Can confirm this will work for a 2021 gmc Sierra 1500 slt
@@DustinT thanks
It don't work with my car
I have 2014 chevy impala LT im pretty it works for my car
Awesome!!
I doubt it works in 2014 Chevy Silverado.. nothing ever does
Awesome. Thanks
To many wires and I already do that without apple tv it's call blue tooth
You can also mod your appletv with a 12v dc power supply
Nice!
After all said n done its easier to just watch on your phone 😂
Tablet with a 13" screen.
Phones are too good now and larger screens. This is kinda extra

It does, works great!
Yes, yes it does, the faster you go, the higher the definition ... Over 150 mph the screen goes into 3D Mode... true story...
Or…. You can just watch on your phone. 🤦♂️
Plug your power to the usb on the cast player and use WiFi from cell phone and you winning
When you have to buy something and have all of these cables hooked up to your truck ...... This isn't a TRICK.
Great way for the driver to get distracted and get into a accident.
Now i understand why there’s a lot of people breaking into cars 😅
Too many devices to hide.
Sweet! Do you have a faster way for someone to hit me any faster? Motorcycle riders want to know... It's only legs and arms, hehe, no sweat!
There's just not enough people on iPhones driving- you can kill (er I mean) save us from boredom while driving!
I wish i has a screen in my car that i could my phone to. Ya know, since i live in my car.
No Android, im out.
