As a grandfather to a wee 8 year old lassie, I found this very moving. There definitely is a special bond there, I’m sure he would have been very proud of the woman you have become.
❤ what a beautiful tribute to your grandfather Phoebe. Gosh he would be so super proud of you 💙🏴 thank you for showing me Scotland through your eyes. Born in Glasgow, and I now have a list of new places to visit x Come back and visit us soon x safe travels
Aww Phoebe, you had me in tears. I emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand with my parents when I was five years old. And I am now 60 yrs old and have never been back to Scotland. My heart is aching to go back to see the country, and the history and seeing relatives I have never met. It’s certainly on my bucket list. Glad you had such a lovely grandad. I’m sure he’s there with you Phoebe. Have fun in beautiful Bonnie Scotland.❤️🏴

Misty and foggy and cold. With the blonde hair, the smile, the positive attitude and the pink sweater you (to quote The Temptations) are like sunshine on a cloudy day. Wonderful video.
A new touching vlog from Phoebe Lee! I understand your passion, your tears.Edinburgh is an amazing city.Your portrait is so moving,at the same time so full of joy! Thanks a lot Phoebe!
Love Edinburgh, my birthplace, and Glasgow where I’ve lived for most of my life. Two quite different but very cool cities. Glad you enjoyed your trips to both and was moved by your words about your grandfather.
So happy Phoebe that you visited this place/country from where your grandpa is. Look at those photos you showed us. Your grand dad was handsome handsome man and you were so cute as a kid. I lost my dad in 2021. I think he is somewhere and he is watching me. And i think your grandpa is watching you from somewhere and he is very happy to see you

Watching this video makes me super grateful for the year I spent living in this beautiful city. Is still my favourite city in the world. How lucky I am to have a Scottish husband and to visit regularly from Aus. So glad you enjoyed yourself. Katie 😊
I love it how you like it over-cast, cold. It's how you should experience Edinburgh. I want to go now! Been to England many times but never made it that far North. Hope for 2025 trip

Loved this episode! I lost my grandfather in 2021 just before the birth of my second child and it was very difficult. But he loved it so much when I traveled. I brought him back some goodies from Edinburgh and Dublin (whiskey) when I went there on my honeymoon. He loved it. Those handbags are absolutely adorable. I really loved the red and brown on the table in the back too! I think I would walk out with at least three or four of those 😅
aah Phoebe, sending hugs and Im so glad you got to travel to Scotland and feel closer to him. My grandpa is also one of my favorite person he has been fighting cancer for 4 years and the doctor says there is nothing left for them to do now, and I watch him live life through videos calls and my mom photo and he is always so happy when he sees me and so I understand how special those relationships can be and you remembering him and travelling to Scotland I believe keeps him alive❤
Oh Zoey, my heart is with you and your family. It sounds like you and your Grandpa have a very special bond. The little girl in me is happy for all the years you've had together :) He sounds like a wonderful man who truly adores you!
This year I had the chance to visit Ireland where my grandfather lived until 23 before he came to NZ. I visited his village etc. I had the same response as you. One of the most special trips I have done! Thanks for sharing your story.
Beautiful words for your Grandfather Phoebe. What a wonderful way to honour his memory. I want to thank you for so many wonderful ideas and suggestions for my wife and my trip to Scotland next year. We are travelling from Sydney and it is wonderful to watch a review from a fellow Aussie. Dean village looks absolutely beautiful and I’m sure we will definitely have a look while we are in Edinburgh.
Thank you so much for the kind words about my Pop, I really appreciate it :) He was the best and I'm glad I finally got to visit Scotland. The whole trip has meant so much to me. Glad the video has some helpful suggestions for your trip as well! Yo'ure going to have an amazing time. We loved Dean Village - it was a real highlight.
Glad you liked Edinburgh. I also miss my own grandpa a lot, loved him to bits. His great granddaughter (my own daughter) is a Phoebe too. Such a beautiful name ;-) The river you walked along at Dean Village is the Water of Leith. It runs from the Pentland Hills on the South West of Edinburgh right down through the city and on to to the Port town of Leith, where it meets the Firth of Forth. My grandpa was a born and bred 'Leither'. Very much worth visiting Leith next time you're in town. It's only a 10 minute tram up the hill to Princes Street. It's also much less touristy, usually has cheaper accommodation and has some amazing pubs and eateries, including several Michelin starred restaurants.
@@travelforphoebe just remember only his body has gone, his beautiful soul flies free with no ailments whatsoever, he will walk with you always, and be immensely proud of all that you do.
Aww so moving that you are visiting the country your Grandfather was from! I am sure he was with you the entire time. You carry him always in your heart! ❤ The less than sunny weather adds to the mystery of Edinburgh. 😉
So glad you feel the same way about the foggy weather! It's gorgeous - like being inside a fairytale :) Thank you for the kind words about my pop. It means a lot. P xx
I'm so glad you enjoyed Edinburgh. I'm heading back in February and am from Australia. We found a hotel, and last time a great apartment in Old Town for under $1,000 Aus for 5 nights. I booked 5 months ahead and obviously the longer you stay, the better the price. But wow, you paid a hefty price there. Great video. All the best for the rest of your trip 😊
I am from Glasgow, well done, it is expensive in Edinburgh, but you got a good price for an apartment in Old Town for under $1,000 Aus for 5 nights, she did pay over the odds Well it's good to be central 🙂
Hello Phoebe, I was born and have lived my whole life in Scotland, and your reaction to the bagpipes lets you know there is Scottish blood in you. Whenever I hear the bagpipes, it brings a lump to my throat. You will really love Inverness. I often go up there for the day from where I live on the N.E. coast of Scotland.
I was born in Glasgow, Scotland. But when I was 2 years old my parents and I moved to Sydney, Australia. I spent the next 40 years living and working all over Australia. Then 5 and 1/2 years ago. I left Australia to be at home again and I have settled in Edinburgh now where I live and work now. Thank you for your video on my, “ Edinbruh”🔥🏴🇦🇺😎
Hi Phoebe, Glad you're enjoying our wee country. The advice about commuting from Glasgow to Edinburgh is sound. You can also get the express coach service from Buchanan Bus Station just up from "conehead". Runs every 15 mins and around 25% cheaper than train and drops you at Haymarket & Princes St. Takes around 1h 30 mins compared to 1h on train. Enjoy your time in Scotland.
Just returned to the States two weeks ago. Edinburgh is my favorite City in all of Europe (although there is an argument about UK v Europe). You did your Food Homework right and there are so many more Restaurant Gems.....However the price for accommodation is scandalous! Diagonally across Leith Walk from the Street Food Court in the Saint James Complex is Roomzzz at less than 1/2 that price, new and spacious rooms and central to exploring. Just did a Tripadvisor Review with high praise. For such a short trip you packed in a lot of why I go back time and again. Wonderful! This coming June I will be back with my son, daughter in-law and Granddaughter.....her first time visiting. My heart is bursting with excitement to see Scotland through her eyes!
As a Weegie. I got married in Edinburgh at the City Chambers. Me and my wife come back every year, and it's come to the point that we can't even justify staying for a few days anymore. Hotel prices have gone from 100 a night to 250+ it's ridiculous. However, we do love Edinburgh, and we just do day trips now :)
You are right, the weather definately adds to the whole atmosphere, esp if your in the highlands, I always think that the overcast, certain shade of grey mist adds to the highland experience.
This is your culture and your country too. Welcome home sweetheart. ❤ Rab You were really overcharged though. I hate people getting ripped off. All the best, for the rest of your journey.
Thank you so much :) I'm actually wondering if there was an event or something on at the time I visited. I travel full-time so I'm pretty good at finding great hotel prices. It just seemed to be for the time of my trip the costs were astronomical compared to Glasgow!
@@travelforphoebe Thank you for your highlight on my wee comment. Edinburgh holds many venues and depending on the time you go, they basically can charge what they think that they will get away with. The Edinburgh Comedy Festival or The Tattoo are usually booked months in advance and you can still get bumped from your hotel/B+B etc. As a Glaswegian I can say that often the same can happen in Glasgow, so I’m not dissing on the Capital. All the best to you and yours. Rab
Sensible folk on a tight budget will stay in Glasgow and travel to Edinburgh on a day trip, returning to Glasgow in the evening and heading to other destinations in Scotland from Glasgow.
As I was helping many of my Swiftie friends from across the pond over this past year. The big tip is to stay in Glasgow and either commute to Edinburgh or get a car on hire and get to Ingleston Park & Ride and take the tram in. Hostels when Taylor was in Edinburgh were going for £660 a night. AirBnBs were £5,000+ for the weekend.
Totally get you, all of my grandparents are long gone, but two of mine were from Glasgow and the other two from Aberdeen. I can't visit either of those Cities without instantly remembering them and everything about them. Happy and sad at the same time.
Loving your channel especially as I only found it on your Glasgow stay which is my local big city. Looking forward to all the other cities and places you visit as well as your previous vlogs. You can stay in Edinburgh cheaply if you go for the budget hotels. You need to come to Edinburgh during the Christmas season and book to eat at The Dome. You have suggested some cafés and restaurants in both Glasgow and Edinburgh that I'm now keen to try.
Special memories of your grandfather. I have to agree on accommodation, I am booked for UK next year. My week in Edinburgh is $4500 Au twice as much as my week in London or Bath. Most expensive of my whole trip. I wanted a convenient location though and have treated myself. There was definitely cheaper options and dearer. Can't wait to see what you else you get up too.
Hiya! Your Edinburgh foggy weather is what we have in Eindhoven today 😮. I understand why you felt like crying in Glasgow and in Edinburgh as your grandad was Scottish. Sending hugs your way 🤗. So brave of you to share a personal story. And those bagpipes are always👌. The reason I haven’t been to Edinburgh is the hotel prices. It’s insane paying nearly 300 pounds for a hotel. It’s almost as pricey as London. The parks are so super green. This is why I love the UK. The Edinburgh Castle looks so nice with the fog around it. And the grounds around is are so beautifully green, and mowed by someone with OCD which adds to the experience. Thanks for sharing your Edinburgh episode and for opening up about your grandad. I’ll see you in the Scottish Highlands 🤙
Really enjoyed the video and your enthusiasm for the city especially with the family connections. I have lived in Edinburgh since the 1960's and keep up to date with all the developments , if you book far enough in advance you can easily find a budget hotel for under £50 ! , so many potential visitors are put off by the misinformation that all accommodation is expensive , that is simply not true , it seems the city is the victim of it's own success having the highest hotel occupancy of any city in Europe ! , thousands of scheduled new hotel rooms should help lower costs out of peak season.
This is one of my favourite cities in the world, and the place were I did my bit of solo travel. I can't tell you how much I love it! I stared at the menu in the window of the mash place for ages but would have felt a bit weird going in on my own. I really wish I had found that Street Food place - it looks awesome! My hotel was on Princes St (Easy Hotel run by Easyjet). The room was incredibly tiny, but in a great spot and less than £100 a night. As a whisky entusiast it's a great place to visit, although it would be very easy for a tourist to pay over the odds. I love watching your videos, but to see places I am familiar with and love so much put a huge smile on my face.
Its better if you get a hotel outside of Edinburgh, its a tourist city with hiked prices for tourists, there are tons of towns outside of edinburgh where your £100 a night could rent you an entire house for a week, nevermind a small room. Trains into Edinburgh from these places every half an hour.
I wouldn't recommend the inconvenience of having to travel into the city everyday when you can save time to see more attractions on your next visit as there are plenty of budget hotel rooms for under £50 in the city if you book well in advance when the dates are first released , there will always be a warm welcome whatever the weather !.
@@aidanwilson6035Aye pal because a 20 minute train journey for £10 return is a MASSIVE HASSLE isn't it? while your "under £50 budget rooms" That's not a hassle at all and feel free to go and actually check the price of "budget rooms" or you could just stop blethering pish on the internet? eh pal? Your "under £50 budget rooms" eh a student room in shared accomodation, *THAT* is what you reccomend people who are visiting the country use? You momunmental backbirth.
wonderful video....Agree Grandfathers are the best I had many good memories with my Grandfather on mom side I never met my dads father but he was a WWII vet and lost a leg in battle of the bulge. I have also been the Edinburgh when I was in the US Navy and loved it i didnt get but 4 hrs there I think it was a tour i took train from London to Edinburgh
I am born and bred in Edinburgh and I hate people being ripped off in my opinion.I live in a nice city area about ten minutes from the airport and lots of regular buses to the city centre and close to amenities. I am within walking distance of places tourists do not ever get to go to steeped in history. I am in the middle of getting my house decorated but once finished I have two spare bedrooms which I am considering letting people stay in. I wouldn't ask for money but a fiver a night(I would waive the fiver for giving the dog a quick walk. I am surrounded by parks) toward the cost of washing towels and linen, etc. and the costs of gas and other amenities. I live in my home half the week but I smoke in my room and have a dog. You can walk up the hill I live on and you have a panoramic view over the city, over the Forth to Fife. OverPentland Hills then over West over the airport and beyond. I am considering doing that for gap year students who are watching their pennies and wanting to visit Edinburgh. It's just a thought in my mind just now but I really want to do it. If I do decide that where would advertise? I don't want money the fiver would be discretionary just to chip in. Just an idea in my mind for now.
As I stayed in New town near playhouse there, I went to Princes street garden almost every day after school and just looked at the castle and chilled out as well. My great regret is I hadn't tried having Haggis :) My Aussie mate in Brisbane and his ancestors came from Edinburgh,Scotland,I suppose. cheers
Edinburgh is one of those rare places that's always great, no matter the weather. I love it in the fog, or haar as it usually is in Edinburgh - it looks amazing if you see breaks in the haar down at shore. Edinburgh is getting more and more expensive to stay in. I used to visit overnight 3 or 4 times a year, but since covid it's been too expensive. I stayed last year for my birthday, and looked again for my birthday this year which is a few weeks away...and decided against it. I also recently did a charity walk in Edinburgh, but had to stay outside of Edinburgh to make it worth my while doing it, or the hotel would have cost more than what I was raising!! If I lived further away I'd fork out for a hotel there, but I'm only a couple of hours away by train, so I'll stick to daytrips until the hotels become more reasonable again. I always do a morning walk to Dean Village when I'm staying in Edinburgh, usually early morning on check out day. I love walking along the Water of Leith. Alas that's not the actual Elephant House - that's one they've opened up while the original is rebuilt after a fire. There's plenty of nice towns near Edinburgh you can stay in. Linlithgow and South Queensferry are two I've stayed in which are 20 - 30 minutes from Edinburgh by train. But Glasgow is fantastic as well, obviously.
Your bag is soooo cute😍 I’d like to go Edinburgh and Scotland someday❤ Thank you for sharing the information about accommodation, I have to check the cost😂 and that’s a good idea to do 1day trip there😮
New to your channel but definitely staying now! Our home city and what a time to visit with our great Scottish weather 😊 The mist just creates an even more ghostly, haunted atmosphere in the city. Unfortunately, like you mention, the city is being ruined by greedy tourist accommodation owners and 'gift' shops which is a shame. Edinburgh Street Food is incredible especially the Detroit Pizza! The best biggest small country in the world 🏴 Stay Safe 🙂
Welcome! I'm so glad you found my channel :) I got very lucky with the weather in both cities huh - couldn't have asked for more! Thanks so much for watching and the lovely words of support.
I was going to suggest staying in Glasgow and making the trip across, then you mentioned it. Another great video, lass. Glad you enjoyed your time. I need to get back to Edinburgh. Even though I can get a bus or train straight from mines, I don't get through very often. Last time I was there, I did the almost 13 miles of Leith Walk, which you did part of when you walked from Dean Village. A great walk for anyone reading who enjoys a nice gentle walk. Good for birds and other wildlife too for anyone like me who wants to go wildlife watch. I'm next due to go through for a candlelight carol service in St. Giles Cathedral, but you've inspired me to go through before then. Oh, by the way, tattie means potato. So a tattie scone is pretty much literally a potato flatbread, as you said. I didn't know if you realised this.
It was so easy to get there on the train - a day trip to Edinburgh really would be a great, budget-friendly way to do it! Thank you so much for the kind words :) I'm hooked on those tattie scones!
Just stumbled across your channel when the Glasgow one popped up Phoebe so I’m now watching this one, you seem a lovely girl & you look like you enjoyed your time in Bonnie Scotland 🏴👌🏽1200 Australian dollars for the hotel seems very steep 😮
I’ve been there a little over a year ago, as a short layover after visiting my bestie, but you managed to get way more out of it than I did! (So maybe I’ll have to get back 😉) Looovvveedd the bags you both made, and I was rooting for the pink handle, well chosen! 😂❤
That's a shocking price to pay for 2 night hotel stay. Pro tip - Premiere Inn / Travel Lodge etc have far cheaper rooms that this - and they're close to the centre. It's only a comfy bed you want after all as you'll be out and about all the time, including meal times.
I couldn’t watch the whole video, when you talked about your grandfather it sent me. My Scottish grandmother passed away in 2019, and when I hear bagpipes i instantly breakdown. 😭
Excellent Vlog, Fibi!!!!! You did Scotland Proud and I'm sure your Grandda. $787 (USD) isn't that bad for a major city these days. Edinburgh is definitely on my Life List (Bucket is a little morbid for me)
The hotel you stayed in was originally built as student residences in the mid 90s - I lived on the 8th floor when I was in 1st year at uni in '96! Iirc it cost about £250 per month, so the prices have certainly gone up!😅 I think Edinburgh is a city that is arguably overtouristed nowadays tbh, certainly in parts. The eye-watering accommodation costs are one unfortunate symptom of that
That is not the elephant house where J.K Rowling wrote the books. The original coffee shop was around the corner but it was damaged by fire a few years ago and has been closed since.
As a grandfather to a wee 8 year old lassie, I found this very moving. There definitely is a special bond there, I’m sure he would have been very proud of the woman you have become.

Thank you so much for the kind words :)
I know Edinburgh very well. Worked there
for 35 years. Enjoyed your video.
Phoebe you are pure soul 🙏
Looks like such a great place to travel ❤
I was born in Glasgow, Scotland. But when I was 2 years old my parents and I moved to Sydney, Australia. I spent the next 40 years living and working all over Australia. Then 5 and 1/2 years ago. I left Australia to be at home again and I have settled in Edinburgh now where I live and work now. Thank you for your video on my,
“ Edinbruh”🔥🏴🇦🇺😎
WOW that's a BIG change!
I am moving here in two weeks so so excited xx
I'm so excited for you! You're going to love it :)
Scottish people are special
Loved your enthusiasm girl !! thankyou XX
Lovely report, very touching.
Thanks for watching :)
That's so lovely! What a sweet annual trip to take :)
You are right, the weather definately adds to the whole atmosphere, esp if your in the highlands, I always think that the overcast, certain shade of grey mist adds to the highland experience.
I loved the foggy weather - it was perfect :) Felt like I was in a fairytale!! And it makes the cake and tea better haha all that cosy goodness!
This is your culture and your country too. Welcome home sweetheart. ❤ Rab
You were really overcharged though.
WOWWWW that's INSANE!
Oh wow! I'm glad you found the channel through the Glasgow video. Welcome. We're happy to have you here :)
Incredible City 😎
Thanks so much, Felix! Hope you've been well P xx
My favourite part of this week’s video is dinner and the lobster roll. Thanks for sharing the story with your grandfather.
hahahaha the lobster roll! :) It was my favourite part in real life
This is one of my favourite cities in the world, and the place were I did my bit of solo travel.
Thank you so much for sharing! I am sooo happy to hear you loved it too! It's a magical place huh :)
Beautiful city!
Totally agree!
wonderful video....Agree Grandfathers are the best I had many good memories with my Grandfather on mom side I never met my dads father but he was a WWII vet and lost a leg in battle of the bulge. I have also been the Edinburgh when I was in the US Navy and loved it i didnt get but 4 hrs there I think it was a tour i took train from London to Edinburgh
Thank you so much for sharing your stories :)
Definatly one place id love to see!
My great regret is I hadn't tried having Haggis :)
My Aussie mate in Brisbane and his ancestors came from Edinburgh,Scotland,I suppose. cheers
Thanks so much for watching! Hope you get to try haggis soon haha
Loved the drain drenched mood of the video!
Me too!! I love cosy weather :)
this video has made me even more keen for my trip next year! loved glasgow video too. very keen to see the inverness one as ill be going there too!
You are going to have a wonderful time :) So happy for you!
Your bag is soooo cute😍 I’d like to go Edinburgh and Scotland someday❤
Thank you for sharing the information about accommodation, I have to check the cost😂 and that’s a good idea to do 1day trip there😮
New to your channel but definitely staying now!
That's festival prices, August, it's much more reasonable if you come any other time.
Edinburgh and glasgow two great citys ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for watching both of these episodes :) it really means a lot! Appreciate your kind words and support!
omg this is PERFECT for my europe trip upcoming next month for xmas! love it, i was booking hotels and i didn't plan much!
Perfect timing for you :) So glad it could be helpful!
Currently watching your video from Edinburgh, haste ye back 😊
Just watched your first vlog in dublin.. u r doing great. Congrats..
Thank you so much :)
Love you so much ❤❤❤ keep the beat thing alive which is you
That handbag looks amazing
Yesterday I just wrote on your Glasgow video to come to Edinburgh, and bam! 😂
I like to keep you all happy! :)
@@travelforphoebe Well I hope my city didn’t disappoint. Great video btw.
Good morning Phoebe!
I’ve been there a little over a year ago, as a short layover after visiting my bestie, but you managed to get way more out of it than I did! (So maybe I’ll have to get back 😉)
Looovvveedd the bags you both made, and I was rooting for the pink handle, well chosen! 😂❤
I love my Harris Tweed small backpack, a Christmas gift from my brother. It's the best present he has ever bought for me.
hahaha the pink handle won! It's truly the ultimate keepsake :) Such a fun, girly activity to share with your best friend too.
You could of gone to Premier Inn at York Place Edinburgh definitely go on the Edinburgh trams
That's a shocking price to pay for 2 night hotel stay. Pro tip - Premiere Inn / Travel Lodge etc have far cheaper rooms that this - and they're close to the centre. It's only a comfy bed you want after all as you'll be out and about all the time, including meal times.
Loved this video and love your energy. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful country 🏴 and the “something called tattie scone” 😂😂
I am officially addicted to tattie scones :)
I couldn’t watch the whole video, when you talked about your grandfather it sent me. My Scottish grandmother passed away in 2019, and when I hear bagpipes i instantly breakdown. 😭
I completely understand!
Excellent Vlog, Fibi!!!!! You did Scotland Proud and I'm sure your Grandda. $787 (USD) isn't that bad for a major city these days. Edinburgh is definitely on my Life List (Bucket is a little morbid for me)
Thanks so much Jason :) hahaha I hear you - bucket list can be a bit off putting huh. Sometimes I prefer to go with 'life travel wishlist' hahaha
nice video, There is much to learn
14:33 ! Wow! amazing..
Great video, we've just booked to go in January. £24.99 per night at Travelodge.
The hotel you stayed in was originally built as student residences in the mid 90s - I lived on the 8th floor when I was in 1st year at uni in '96! Iirc it cost about £250 per month, so the prices have certainly gone up!😅
I think Edinburgh is a city that is arguably overtouristed nowadays tbh, certainly in parts. The eye-watering accommodation costs are one unfortunate symptom of that
hahaha that's a BIG change!
i love how you went from 3:00 to 4:00 , Much ❤
Thanks
Scottish Grandads are the best lass !
The. Best. I couldn't have ever wished for a better Grandpop.
That is not the elephant house where J.K Rowling wrote the books. The original coffee shop was around the corner but it was damaged by fire a few years ago and has been closed since.
ohhh interesting!
