The unfinished Edinburgh National Monument on Calton Hill is also known locally as Edinburgh's disgrace. Edinburgh was referred to as the Athens of the North in the early 19th century, as the city was at the heart of a huge amount of philosophical, medical, technological and academic development, garnering comparisons with the ancient Greeks. The decision was made to build a replica of the Parthenon on Calton Hill, unfortunately funding ran out and it was never completed, hence the term 'disgrace'. I personally think it's better that it was only part completed as it has a lot more character than if it was just a complete replica of a Greek monument.
Ok, so that was the second volcano he had taken him up on in the last few days. There are three volcanoes in the city. And he was going to take him to the two others in the city as well. The mathematics is starting to break. Unless...

I personally think it's better that it was only part completed as it has a lot more character than if it was just a complete replica of a Greek monument.
aww , listen to me, theres a pie shop in reading, called sweeney tods, the best ever pies
Noted 👍🏻
Outlander is brilliant and worth watching. But barbaric but I suppose it was then 👍
We don’t get much time to watch TV but maybe we will have to give it a try. Thanks for the warning about the barbaric nature of it 😂
I'm with you on the bagpipes Jason. 😒🙄
🙌🏼 they are much more tolerable as part of a bigger band but on their own, not a fan lol
I prefer the Kelvingrove in Glasgow
Ok, so that was the second volcano he had taken him up on in the last few days. There are three volcanoes in the city. And he was going to take him to the two others in the city as well. The mathematics is starting to break. Unless...
It's for the Edinburgh military tattoo
So we have since found out. We totally forgot that was happening soon!
You silly persons. Great vid. (Edinburgh is my home, so it was a wander around familiar places with new eyes)
Glad you enjoyed the video. Always great to see places through new eyes 😊
Edinburgh is a show-off city for tourists. When you get bored of the architecture, head to Glasgow. Here you'll find a more vibrant city where the true Scotts live.
Then again... I might be biased 😂.
Also, I've seen your Glasgow video. Hopefully, next time yous visit, you get to spend more time as it has a lot more to offer 😊
😂🤣 we are definitely planning on spending longer in Glasgow for our next visit. So much to do we didn’t even know existed until recently!
"Scotts"? Who are they? You mean Scots.
Glasgow people are very friendly and anyone will talk to you here but let's face it, Central Edinburgh is far nicer to look at. The city council here tore down so much of our history in the name of "progress" and they ain't done yet.
@@georgerichardson7728Been to Glasgow on 2 occasions but didn't like anything about. Edinburgh in my opinion in much nicer!
“…and a very impressive organ he had as well.” 😂
🤭

We have no regrets 😂
Last time I was in Edinburgh there were a group of 12-14 year olds throwing glass bottles at each other on Princes street
Overrrated.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. If you could recommend a city for us to visit where would it be?
@@JJExtra Glasgow. For sure.
Funny you should say that as our new video that has just gone live is from Glasgow 😂
@@JJExtra nice one!
@@Irishlad1916 Edinburgh much nicer than Glasgow. Glaswegian accent must be the worst in the world and I have a Brummie accent. If I never have to set foot in Glasgow again, I'll be delighted!
