Honestly, I believe Netherealm should stop or at least do less character-specific chapters. Sure, they can give a lot of stuff for the featured character, but this can make some characters more irrelevant if there aren’t enough chapters and/or screw up the power scaling of some characters.
My biggest problem with the story is that the multiple timeliness and everyone having a titan variant is that it makes Liu Kangs role as a God and a titan completely insignificant when Liu Kang is what the whole game was built around
Not to mention the introduction of Titans as even MORE powerful than the Elder Gods kinda renders them nigh irrelevant. Also the Elder Gods did MORE impressive stuff than the Titans in terms of just being able to overpower the bad guys when it comes to fighting, to the point of not even needing to. So... what? Did Liu Kang just NERF the Elder Gods in this timeline? I could see that, but then once he gets his Titan powers back, why doesn't he just use similar powers as the Elder Gods against non-Titans? Doesn't make sense. Like Mungo said, they threw too much shit at the wall to see what sticks.
Everything was cool till the time and multiversal stuff came up. There are too many villains that could work to default back to the multiverse, which in the end will likely result in another reset cuz time travel stories are inherently messy.
Kinda makes sense why they chose the multiverse route, that’s like the whole trend right now for action movies and etc. multiverses and different dimensions.
I wish that mk11 would have just been dark Raiden turning on the good guys and then have the revenants help him. Would have been interesting to see the potential there since the revenants in MKX and MK11 were just your avarage bad guy's thugs
Onaga should’ve returned as the avatar of the One Being, a constant pillar of reality that cannot be toppled. He should’ve been the final evil and left completely unchanged.

There is one thing that really, shall I say, confused me through out the story mode. And that is how the characters like to just stand and watch. Like the bit when Quan Chi is activiting the first souldnado, after defeating the enemies, they all just stand and stare at the whole siutation, making comments like "oh no this is not good!" Well do soemthing then! None of you are occupied! The same also applies to when Liu Kang, Geras and co try to fix the hour glass while Shang Tsung is destroying it. Shang Tsung is outmatched in number by loke 5:1, someone could have just thrown a rock at him to distract him and that would be it lol.
Yep those moments needed to happen faster, and a way to make the hourglass bit more interesting/challenging is have 5 characters backing up Shang Tsung, each one you defeat frees up a character to go help protect the hourglass and revert the spell. Each of the five fights has you play a different hero, so you have to know their movesets, AND the fights are played out in a random order each time so you need to be ready to remember them quickly
It’s the overall direction of basically all netherrealm MK stories. They talk very clearly but also slowly. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a line said in haste. And this applies to their acting as well, from when they point at things, do magic stuff or fight.

Havik's powers didn't match his personality. He acts like a normal guy but rips his head off and throws it at you? He should've been like he was in Deception (thankfully that Lord Havik dude looks to be a push in the right direction)
For me personally, the timeline story is getting extremely tiring. It’s not that the concept here wasn’t interesting, but we’ve basically had 4 games in a row that were either heavily influenced by the concept of timeline or included references on the story to it. I kind of wanted 1 to stay more simple in terms of world building. Leave everything’s behind and start a new. And I like a lot of the new. The ninja relationships with each other (although I’m annoyed at how comically evil they make Bi-Han act). I love the bromance between Cage and Kenshi. The outworld is new take, and also makes the whole concept of MK make sense, as the Empress is someone who would be willing to do it. In fact, the relationship between the two realms feels like in the real world with 2 countries who aren’t exactly allies nor enemies, just that their goals align, for now. I’m hoping Havik becomes the last main remanent of the timeline arc.
My feelings on MK1's story was: Beginning - so this is how things are now. Mid - this is getting interesting. Climax - damn, give me more. Ending - what the F...
Multiverses and timetravel truly do ruin stories. Because the story was fantastic. THey might have even gotten away with SHang And Lui Creating two parallel universes for the first time. But bruh. :D They pulled a multiverse of madness which was not needed. Just the outworld conflct alone could have carried the game fully.

I've seen a lot of people that don't like Bi-Han's arc in this game, and I think that they probably should have spent some more time with him. From the point that he is discussing the future of the Lin Kuei with Scorpion and Smoke, he uses most of his dialogue hinting at exactly what he wants to do. He is tired of the Lin Kuei being Liu Kang's servants, sometimes even embarrassing themselves at his whims. Repeatedly, he makes his intentions known to Smoke and Scorpion that he wants to lead the Lin Kuei into a new direction where they seek a place of their own beyond Liu Kang. Again and again, they hit him with rebuttals, but he keeps trying to get through to them in his Bi-han, "I am your Grandmaster, this is not up for debate" way. The Lin Kuei's glory is something he's clearly dreamed of all of his life, to the point that he allowed his father to die so that he could finally take over, and escape the shadow of someone he clearly doesn't respect. The culmination of the arc is definitely somewhat rushed, but it's understandable given the circumstances. The events that shape Bi-Han into a decent, honorable (yet still cold) person, don't occur outside of Midway's timeline. He dies first thing in MK9, leading to a skewed perception of how Kuai Liang feels about him being the only thing we really know, as we can hardly take anything Noob later says as fact, as he's just a spectre now. Without the struggles Bi-Han goes through in the Midway timeline, it stands to reason he would go through an entirely different arc. Liu Kang's more peaceful timeline left him behind, and his desires clearly weren't being met. They fumbled at the last moment, I think, but I also think that some of the things he says to Kuai Liang are because he's hurt that his actual blood-brother doesn't feel the same way as him. Shang Tsung is here promising glory and a future beyond Liu Kang, everything he's even wanted. By the time Scorpion tries to talk some sense into him, he's already made up his mind-- it's a failing on Kuai Liang's part not to challenge him more clearly before this point, and a failing on Bi-Han's part not to genuinely make his case before his brothers for the future of the Lin Kuei. Their sole discussion over it is cut short, and eventually, leads to this. I also really like Noob Saibot, so I'm excited to see how Bi-Han's going to get himself killed this time. It would be extremely funny if Kuai Liang does the deed, and I'm pretty sure one of the clashing dialogues implies he's killed/going to kill Harumi? Either way, excited to see where he goes from here.
I just don’t like how comically evil he acts and sounds. The VA is great (as are everyone in this game) but the direction was too ‘ho ho, I am clearly a selfish, evil man’. Almost felt like a villain from JoJo. It also doesn’t help that we actually never see the Lin Kuai and how their role with Lui Kang has limited them. What could have worked is it they showed glimpses (like old artworks and murals) of the size and capability of their clan before acting as a defender. Because otherwise, all we really get is words from people.
The third act was rushed and a hot mess. I wish that part would justbeen cut. It's hard to tell a good story with such a large cast without some just getting shafted. I would have preferred the villians got their own chapters in place of the third act that functioned as flashbacks. Show us how they gathered allies. How Shang Tsung wormed his way into the courts. How Quan Chi travelled the realms for more allies. How Shao saved Reiko's life. The story could have ended on a less epic note where Shang Tsung was found out and confronted when they started forming the army and a big battle against the zombies but they could have left the rest unresolved for the sequal of a dlc story. They got too ambitious and felt the need to create an ending even more epic then MK11.
I had a huge crush on the MK franchise since I was a child, and honestly this is the best incarnation of the franchise story wise which was extremly needed since the Twindel fiasco but I didn't understand either what was up with that ending, they clearly set up the scene for the "aftermath expansion" with the ending, and they clearly wanted to include all 3 3D era stories somehow, but why not pan it through the "two games"? If they would leave the chaotic armageddon part with Havic for the other part and just give us a tease for it, it would have been an epic story, but now this just feels like if halfway through the game Ed started to lose interest and just said fuck it just come up with something similar than the original game...I especially feel sorry for Bi-Han because other than hia questionable side game we almost had no og sub zero action, because he became noob everytime like an instant, I dont mind him being evil again, but give us any substance why other than "lol dad was an idiot", maybe he lost a lot of people for helping Liu Kang and he believes they died for nothing, or has different approach to control the Lin Kuei than his father, anything realy other than the classic "Im edgy, deal with it" "Such wasted potential" Grandmaster Blueberry Ice
He's powerhungry. He wanted the Lin Kuei to have more power. His reasoning is he doesn't like how passive and subservient the Lin Kuei are while working with Liu Kang. Just because he has no redeemable motivation, doesn't mean he's lacking a motivation.
i believe OP's motivation is better tho... Sub Zero was kind of cartoonish, and he deserves more respect. If he is to Noob yet again, I wouldn't mind an Anakin/Arthas downfall that marinates. Oh well.@@epiccarrot88
I think this was meant to be yet another reboot to drive-in, new players, kind of like how they did with Final Fantasy 16 and armored core 6 but then it gets convoluted later into the game
Here’s the thing, ppl love mk9 and X because they play really fast, but the devs needed to slow it down so ppl can react to moves which makes it less fun but more strategic
It should have NEVER gone multiverse . It should have been a classic tournament to explore all the characters . The game started so well going through the origins of the earth realm and shang Tsung but then it stops diving into the other characters outside of earth realm and just gives us a clip note for everyone else and then BOOM bad Megan Fox acting and BOOM multiverse shang Tsung and Liu kang beef
I was enjoying the story until the multiverse stuff started. It was not as creative from that point on. All I could see was all the microtransactions MK1 was going to have.
The story was good in min most aspects but left alot to be desired in alot of aspects as well. We never got to see Baraka's background story or a Baraka without the Tarkat disease, never got to see Ashara become fully human, the Lin Kuei's lore I thought would have been more explored, Nitara voice actor smh and many more. I know there have a DLC story coming up but it just sucks that the story went in the direction it did.
The moment I saw Kronika I knew the twist…had she not been there the twist would’ve still have been very underwhelming GREAT START but fizzled out fast…so yea, not buying any mortal Kombat games ever again but I’ll watch the cutscenes
Like the creators of South Park said, mulitverses are cool up to a point, but do it too much and it's just lazy writing. I dunno if I'd say MK has QUITE reached that point yet, but if not then it's still dangerously close at least. And now they gotta double down on it for MK13 smh The superhero theme of this game's DLC shows they prolly took the inspiration from Marvel (even though they're owned by WB) and therefor are also bound to similarly overdo this already overused trope, but with time travel added for an extra case of fuckery, which Marvel already did with Avenger's: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
I hate it as well because half the cast has a plot point but half of it doesn't. Like how you going to do my mans rain like that? He's just a jobber mage now? Ik he's always been one since his inception, but he just doesn't even feel like apart of it, especially his ending which he just says "fuck it, here some genocide!" I also wished Sub-Zero would've died in this game as well, so in the next installment he can be Noob, since Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung are back to how they used to be. But frfr this is how I felt as well with the ending, it felt like a whole arc with missing plot points, I actually like it on paper don't get me wrong, but it's to early for something like this and throws everything off, so it is rushed in away too. I just hope there is some redemption for story dlc.
The ONLY great thing they did with this game was Mileena's story. And even then a ton of that was still sucky. They doubled down on all the stupid decisions of X and 11 with this one, and had them completely overshadow what was good about it. At this stage I don't think Mortal Kombat even ***can*** tell a good consistent story anymore.

For me my least favorite part of the game story was Liu Kang's timeline to me I just hated everything. How all the characters acted to how they were. To all the unnecessary changes. I get the full-blown reboot idea. I wouldn't have done it myself. But I understand it. I just honestly dislike what some of my favorite characters are like now. Like Raiden isn't even Raiden anymore. And it's just disappointing. I 100% agree with your statement on the ending. 100 should have left it at Shang Tsung and Quan cheese deadly alliance. Ended it and then had the reveal through the final cutscene that both timelines were Canon then you have a game. Where he's recruiting all the people. And then you have Armageddon plus I hate how Titan Shang Tsung dies so fucking easily. I hate it so much. I hate this game LOL

I love that the deadly alliance came back in a way. The Deadly alliance is the reason events were happening from Mkda up to now.
Personally not a fan of the story direction of MK these days MK9+MK10 were good but I'd just want a Reboot fleshed out version of the old timeline.

I had a huge crush on the MK franchise since I was a child, and honestly this is the best incarnation of the franchise story wise which was extremly needed since the Twindel fiasco but I didn't understand either what was up with that ending, they clearly set up the scene for the "aftermath expansion" with the ending, and they clearly wanted to include all 3 3D era stories somehow, but why not pan it through the "two games"? If they would leave the chaotic armageddon part with Havic for the other part and just give us a tease for it, it would have been an epic story, but now this just feels like if halfway through the game Ed started to lose interest and just said fuck it just come up with something similar than the original game...I especially feel sorry for Bi-Han because other than hia questionable side game we almost had no og sub zero action, because he became noob everytime like an instant, I dont mind him being evil again, but give us any substance why other than "lol dad was an idiot", maybe he lost a lot of people for helping Liu Kang and he believes they died for nothing, or has different approach to control the Lin Kuei than his father, anything realy other than the classic "Im edgy, deal with it"

I think this was meant to be yet another reboot to drive-in, new players, kind of like how they did with Final Fantasy 16 and armored core 6 but then it gets convoluted later into the game
The Joker's ending where I'm assuming Havik said "Let's shake on it" then the Joker pulls his hand off is what solidified their bond.

It should have NEVER gone multiverse . It should have been a classic tournament to explore all the characters . The game started so well going through the origins of the earth realm and shang Tsung but then it stops diving into the other characters outside of earth realm and just gives us a clip note for everyone else and then BOOM bad Megan Fox acting and BOOM multiverse shang Tsung and Liu kang beef

The story was good in min most aspects but left alot to be desired in alot of aspects as well. We never got to see Baraka's background story or a Baraka without the Tarkat disease, never got to see Ashara become fully human, the Lin Kuei's lore I thought would have been more explored, Nitara voice actor smh and many more. I know there have a DLC story coming up but it just sucks that the story went in the direction it did.

The superhero theme of this game's DLC shows they prolly took the inspiration from Marvel (even though they're owned by WB) and therefor are also bound to similarly overdo this already overused trope, but with time travel added for an extra case of fuckery, which Marvel already did with Avenger's: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
I hate it as well because half the cast has a plot point but half of it doesn't. Like how you going to do my mans rain like that? He's just a jobber mage now? Ik he's always been one since his inception, but he just doesn't even feel like apart of it, especially his ending which he just says "fuck it, here some genocide!" I also wished Sub-Zero would've died in this game as well, so in the next installment he can be Noob, since Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung are back to how they used to be. But frfr this is how I felt as well with the ending, it felt like a whole arc with missing plot points, I actually like it on paper don't get me wrong, but it's to early for something like this and throws everything off, so it is rushed in away too. I just hope there is some redemption for story dlc.
The multiverse thing turned me off. They should have just focused on the new era timeline.

Making every single ending in MK11 canon felt really lazy.
The ONLY great thing they did with this game was Mileena's story.
And even then a ton of that was still sucky.
They doubled down on all the stupid decisions of X and 11 with this one, and had them completely overshadow what was good about it.
At this stage I don't think Mortal Kombat even ***can*** tell a good consistent story anymore.

It was a bit rushed, in mk11 it was mindf*cks after mindf*cks and I was hooked, Mk1 had the potential, they had a good buildup to the story but the ending was rushed and really predictable

For me my least favorite part of the game story was Liu Kang's timeline to me I just hated everything. How all the characters acted to how they were. To all the unnecessary changes. I get the full-blown reboot idea. I wouldn't have done it myself. But I understand it. I just honestly dislike what some of my favorite characters are like now. Like Raiden isn't even Raiden anymore. And it's just disappointing.
I 100% agree with your statement on the ending. 100 should have left it at Shang Tsung and Quan cheese deadly alliance. Ended it and then had the reveal through the final cutscene that both timelines were Canon then you have a game. Where he's recruiting all the people. And then you have Armageddon plus I hate how Titan Shang Tsung dies so fucking easily. I hate it so much. I hate this game LOL
