How good is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts? [Review]

Every series has its ups and downs. And I mean every series. EVERY series. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. The Banjo-Kazooie series is one of those non-exceptions. The first game, Banjo-Kazooie, was a very high up. The sequel, Banjo-Tooie, was a very low down (but don't say that out loud! The reaction will be feral!). The big question is, where does the black sheep of the series, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, fit on that spectrum? Is a high or a low? Is it good or bad? That's what I'm here to determine. Enjoy! :]

Even after I learned about the previous two banjo games, I still saw Nuts and Bolts as pretty good for what it was.
while it framed itself as a sequel, story-wise at least, in reality, it's a spin-off that would fill the space between Tooie and a potential 4th game, if the rotting corpse of rare wasn't currently chained to a radiator at Microsoft HQ.
A man can dream, though.

I remember people complaining about the vehicle construction at the time, but I thought it was interesting. My only complaint was that it felt slow to acquire new/better pieces for construction, though that was probably just a symptom of my play style at the time. It is kind of funny in retrospect that some people complained about the construction, but so many people gave such glowing praise for practically the same thing in Tears Of The Kingdom.

Have wondered for a long time now why a plumber can get an array of different games with various gamestyles that are loved by many. But as soon as bear and bird gets a game that diverges from the standard formula, its automatically bad.

A couple of reasons as to why Mario can get an array of games:
1. the premise for the franchise is pretty well established to be that the games are stage plays.
2. the spinoff games stick to the franchise's identity, you won't forget that you are playing a mario game.
3. public relations / marketing. Mario is the mascot for Nintendo, and therefore people won't find it weird for him to make an appearance in games that differ quite a lot in style and gameplay.

To be fair they also make they’re golf and tennis games pretty solid, like Mario golf on the 64 feels pretty wild in a good way, meanwhile they took banjo, and put him in the same collecathon type of game, and forced him into a car as a wacky idea, meanwhile Putting someone like Luigi who is a coward in a house full of ghosts for investigating can give you comedy gold, and new type of gameplay for That Specific character, where you know Mario will be the standard. Really when you break it down like that it’s 1+1=2 easy, cause you know you’re getting a Mario game, meanwhile They Died on this hill, in a crappy car nobody liked.

The game looks good, it’s just bad knowing how much potential they wasted, like I Love Mario sunshine, some would say Flood was a bit much, but having the additional mechanics for Mario’s jumping was kinda sweet, as well as all the other new abilities. Meanwhile it’s like they took banjo, put him in a car and made the car do all the work, if it was more of a split or just a travel medium to get to new areas that would be cool, but I could never give the idea of this game a chance. This game is Mega Weak.
