I have been to Cape Town, it very beautiful and attractive to stay there, but I will pick Nairobi after Ghana, just bcos it feels like Aftica than Cape Town.
The friend you spoke to who told you burials take place on weekdays must be from the tribes living next to Nairobi. In the western part of the country, funerals are generally on Saturdays and Sundays as the mourners have to travel all the way from their resident city or town.

Our Presbyterian ministers refused to perform funeral rites on weekends, they said it was messing up with their mental health to move to weddings from funerals. This then spread to other denominations...
For funerals it depends on who and where in Kenya. For people coming from mostly western sides of Kenya funerals are held either Fridays, Saturdays. This is because on distance to travel from Nairobi to those areas. Also for those observing sabbath on Saturdays burials will be done on Thursdays or Fridays, for those who go to church on Sundays then they will likely bury the dead on Saturday to allow maximum attendance of friends and relatives. Muslims will bury any day according to their customs. For the people coming around near Nairobi they will usually bury weekdays since its convenient for them travel wise. As for driving on the left side on the road we inherited from the British our former colonizers, Ghana must have changed their side to conform and accommodate the French speaking west African countries.
@@EfyaKimorasomething different in Kenya is most commuties burry their dead meaning no show off or comparison of best burrial interms of varieties of food , slaughtering cows ,extreme dressing or bigger parties because money is contributed by community for everything mortuary fee, hospital bill, vehicle on the day of burrial and burrial expenditure all is done by community but family is involved to give their preference while few community do like west African cultures big parties facilitated by the family members

@@EfyaKimorathere are funerals on weekends, though not many. Growing up, most funerals used to be held on Saturdays. The reason many are done on weekdays is because funerals on weekends would clash with other functions where the priest’s presence was required. For example he’d have two weddings and two funerals. So you’d find the functions running into the night waiting for him. So it was a decision among the people and the church to have Saturdays for weddings. A funeral can be held on Saturday if the priest is available to do the rites
This is really interesting hearing the differences! I live in USA and have been acquainted with people from most parts of Africa including Ghana (west) and Kenya (east) , but Africa is big and I knew there would be differences. Probably the most interesting to me is that Ghana drives on the right like the USA whereas Kenya drives on the left like the UK, which I would expect left as former British colonies. Quick googles reveal Nigeria also drives on the right but Gambia and Sierra Leone drive on the left (also former British colonies). I will have to research how Ghana and Nigeria escaped the British curse of driving on the left (left is wrong as you know 🙃😛). I used to frequently go to Hong Kong and PRC China a couple of decades ago and HK is left and PRC is right. As you know, one is correct and one is not😉. jk, sort of :).
I love it. Thanks for adding up. When I returned from my trip, I told my mom about the driving style in Kenya and she told me Ghana used to drive the same and it was changed in 1974 or so
@@EfyaKimora Yes! I just looked that up. A lot of neighbors were French influenced so Ghana and Nigeria decided to be good neighbors and switched to the right to be consistent.
Kenya is a beautiful country and kenyans are loving and warm people, you can tell from the comment section anything to do with kenya they will support whole heartedly.
Burial ceremonies and wedding ceremonies are mostly on Saturdays a very small percentage bury on weekdays especially Adventists do it on Friday or Sundays. This is the truth here in Kenya for majority, whoever told you about week days burial did not give you the true picture.
This has recently changed burials nowadays are held during weekdays and the reason why its changing from saturday is to accomodate without the feeling of guilt. As in your neighbor is holding a burial while the other is doing a wedding or a dowry ruracio ceremony has prompted the shift and most pastors will not allow burials on weekends.
It's not like Kenya doesn't have variety of food, it depends on which region one comes from. Like in my background we Fry matoke, arrowroot, yams, pumpkins mashed with potatoes and cowpeas.
As a Kenyan currently in Ghana, i see the differences as well..and i am learning new things too!

Hey Efya, most burials happn on Saturday too here in Kenya but still some happen on week days

On food I have to agree but its not that we dont have,I think we kenyans like to foods we can fix fast and conitnue with our businesses.Theres no time in pounding yam or so..lol

@@EfyaKimora There is NO food in Ghana taht cannot be found in Kenya. The way we prepare and combine our foods is what is different. There are also some things that are considered food in Ghana that are not eaten in Kenya even thow they are found on Kenya tok e.g snails and guinea fowls are not eaten in Kenya. Let's stop these nonaense narratives.
The cold weather here in our Nairobi is only in June July and UpTo mid August
I loved it
We have different seasons. Check out the weather before you travel
Saturday is also for weddings and funerals apart from the Adventist church

Sometime back, while walking on the street in Nairobi, a colleague from India asked me why it was so quiet. I asked him what he meant and he explained that hooting is the order of the day in India!!
🤣🤣🤣
July tends to be coldest month in Nairobi.
I see
We have different seasons in kenya. You came to nairobi in the cold season. September to around march is warmer with dec to march being the hottest months. Mombasa is generally warm to hot and humid because its a coastal town and altitude is lower

Yeah my motherland is the London of Africa👍also our culture is completely different with the West Africans. Regarding Kenyan foods/dishes that roasted meat can be cooked as stew, or there's stew chicken and stew fish EITHER roasted then cook stew/source keep meat pieces or chicken pieces even fish stew ANOTHER alternative the source/stew can be cooked and served separately to eat the roasted meat with vegetables ie kale also served as side dishes with these different foods❤❤
Yes
For someone who has been going to Kenya since 2017, I agree with most of your observations, in fact there are much more. Anyway, stuff like the road is half true cos you were probably only in the CBD from the airport. But if you enter the communities it is not as good. Same as Ghana though.
But I love Kenya. I have been to Cape Town, it very beautiful and attractive to stay there, but I will pick Nairobi after Ghana, just bcos it feels like Aftica than Cape Town.
Welcome to kenya
Hoping to meet you before you back
😅 too late
On buying carrier bags, some vendors will provide you with it depending on your purchase.
Okay. But in Ghana, you will get it for whatever you buy
Nairobi is in winter season come in September to February
Ok
@@EfyaKimoraNo actually Sept- Nov is the short rains. Hottest time of year is towards end of December - Early March.
Winter is June to July
The friend you spoke to who told you burials take place on weekdays must be from the tribes living next to Nairobi. In the western part of the country, funerals are generally on Saturdays and Sundays as the mourners have to travel all the way from their resident city or town.
That's why Kenya is the capital of Africa 🌍

- Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)
- Lagos (Nigeria)

Our Presbyterian ministers refused to perform funeral rites on weekends, they said it was messing up with their mental health to move to weddings from funerals. This then spread to other denominations...
😂😂😂 why you lying
Kenya is the creme de la creme of Africa
I see but in Ghana, funerals are done on Saturday and Sunday traditionally. But Saturday churches have their own days
But probably that's where similarities ends, I think in Ghana the family can bury somebody to even upto an year
@@samuelsamuel1800yes
@@EfyaKimorasomething different in Kenya is most commuties burry their dead meaning no show off or comparison of best burrial interms of varieties of food , slaughtering cows ,extreme dressing or bigger parties because money is contributed by community for everything mortuary fee, hospital bill, vehicle on the day of burrial and burrial expenditure all is done by community but family is involved to give their preference while few community do like west African cultures big parties facilitated by the family members
I come from Western Kenya. Have never seen a burial over the weekend. All burials are done between Monday to Friday
In simple terms, you keep right, and we keep left when driving.

Different cultures in Kenya do funerals/bury on different days of the week.

@@liznjuguna4338 and mondays are generally rest days for priests soo its very rare to find a burrial on a monday
As for the weather it really depends on the month June July is usually cold

When I returned from my trip, I told my mom about the driving style in Kenya and she told me Ghana used to drive the same and it was changed in 1974 or so
Left and right as I am saying it is what lanes the car is in, not what side of the car the steering wheel is located :).
@@EfyaKimora Yes! I just looked that up. A lot of neighbors were French influenced so Ghana and Nigeria decided to be good neighbors and switched to the right to be consistent.
importing cars from US for kenya would be a disaster due to geographic location hence the British way..west Africa is close to US

Yes, and I appreciate it a lot
Burial ceremonies and wedding ceremonies are mostly on Saturdays a very small percentage bury on weekdays especially Adventists do it on Friday or Sundays. This is the truth here in Kenya for majority, whoever told you about week days burial did not give you the true picture.
True we don't do burials on wkdays.
True about the funerals
This has recently changed burials nowadays are held during weekdays and the reason why its changing from saturday is to accomodate without the feeling of guilt. As in your neighbor is holding a burial while the other is doing a wedding or a dowry ruracio ceremony has prompted the shift and most pastors will not allow burials on weekends.
It's not like Kenya doesn't have variety of food, it depends on which region one comes from. Like in my background we Fry matoke, arrowroot, yams, pumpkins mashed with potatoes and cowpeas.
