He truly is a fantastic guitarist. He wrote like half of the riffs on fortress and every riff on that damn album is nuts lol. But Myles went to Berklee for jazz guitar. That's where he gets a lot of his style.
Both of them are top notch players and top tier vocalists, I don't care what anyone says. And obviously they are humble enough to share the spotlight. A lot of lesser musicians aren't.
According to Tremonti, Myles concealed his guitar skills during the first AlterBridge Album because "He didn't want to step on my toes". It was after their first tour that Tremonti was amazed to find out what a good guitarist Myles was.
Mad thing about Myles is that hes basically a virtuoso at guitar.... then all of a sudden hes got one of the best singing voices in rock n roll... some guys just have it all

He has taken formal classes on music theory and jazz guitar theory. In his first band, Cosmic Dust, he played only lead guitar. He also used to teach guitar for awhile.
He won an american guitar competition at the age of 18 and was lead guitarist for cosmic dust, citizen swing and mayfield four before he joined AB, even then he kept his playing a secret as he didnt want to step on anyone's toes, apparently mark was walking around the hotel one night and heard all this really funky jazz coming from Myles's room, then blackbird came out and seriously rocked, dual awesome guitarist style :P
They are both awesome in their own right. But regardless of who anyone thinks is better, there is one aspect in which there is a clear winner. No comparison. Mark Tremonti by far makes the best faces. It's no contest. I'd be accused of shitting myself if I made faces like that. But this is mark Tremonti. An absolute freak of a guitar player. With the best faces in the game.
You can just see that these guys just enjoy being in this band together. They were both actually holding back a little because neither of them ever wants to upstage the other. Myles is a very technically skilled guitarist and can absolutely bring it if he needed to...ya just can't beat the right hand of Mark.

Myles is great and has a great style and knows theory and all that but the shredding solos from alter Bridge don't beat out the insanity and feeling in slashes guitar solos. Slash wrote some of the best albums in rock history. Look at basically every riff in appetite! And the solos. C'mon. Myles is great and I love him but that doesn't mean that slash didn't have something that no one else had in a time when rock was on the way out because of hair metal and MTV!!!!! Slash and GNR came on the scene with brutal freaking hard rock n roll and it was awesome. And as for feeling, might I sight November rain, patience, estranged??? Slash and Myles are both very well rounded musicians who can play crazy awesome stuff like the Paradise city solo or the isolation solo but they can also play the stuff with more feeling too. Myles is a better educated musician for sure, but slash is not overrated, and he was one of the most popular Guitarists for a reason!!!!! I think people can find ways to talk up Myles without having to talk down the lead guitarist of one of the most successful rock bands ever

It's the opposite for me. Tremonti has his own recognizable style. Kennedy is extremely technical but it'd be really hard to pick him out of a blind lineup.

Both insanely good.Mark's technical playing is superb. Myles just feels the music like noone else and that's why I prefer his solos but it's just a matter of personal taste, they're both virtuoso players.

Every moron on here saying Myles isn't as technical or as good as Tremonti, or saying Tremonti plays with no passion, need to shut the fuck up. Musicians on this level (meaning they can actually play the instrument, compared to a five year old with no ability but plenty of music in his head) are not better or worse than one another. They all play their style. The music comes from their own minds and souls. Myles has plenty of technical ability. I'd like to see someone on here shred the way he did from 2:30 til 3:48, and if you can shred like that I'd like to see you convince Tremonti to replace Myles with you. Tremonti is an insanely fast player that plays ridiculously intricate riffs, but guess what Myles keeps up with ALL of them. And Tremonti plays his solos with all the creativity and passion he has, just because they are fast means that is his style. Has anyone heard the Addicted to Pain solo? I honestly couldn't figure out if that was a dueling solo or not and almost shit myself when I saw Tremonti played all of it. The whole band as a whole are fucking badasses. Most of the riffs on Fortress that came from Myles and Mark switching up each others riffs and bouncing ideas off each other. It's musical fusion (School of Rock quote, trust me it's legit lol). So if you have a preference to one musician or another, that's because you enjoy and maybe play the same style of music. Not because one is better than another. Once you realize this and finally knock off the big dick show and admit other musicians are talented too, and realize every musician has a ton to offer, you will finally figure out that every musician has so much they can learn from other styles. My personal playing style comes from Jimmy Page, Slash, Myles, Tremonti (his signature gallop picking style and working on my speed with his techniques on The Sound and The Story DVD), Hendrix, Zakk Wylde (mostly Pride and Glory stuff), and Keith Richards. All different styles...and basically my favorite musicians. I am no where near a professional, I can't play half the riffs these fuckers come up with, but I play with every bit of passion I have. And that's what matters.

Couldn't care less who's better or who they compare to... They are both incredible but for different reasons, and put together with Scott and Brian they make in my opinion the best band in the world at the moment!!! And all of those solos were absolutely mind-blowing!!!
+Jacob Avner I highly doubt Myles got any of them from Slash, seeing as they are all blues and/or jazz licks that he has been playing since the 90s. Besides, Slash had admitted that it's actually Myles who teaches him guitar techniques when they work together, not the other way around.
What the actual fuck man, like 80% of those tones and triplet legatos are slash signatures before Myles first picked a guitar, Myles teaches slash music theory with all the variations and stuff not licks lol
First of all, Myles first began playing guitar at the age of 15, which would have been either 1984 or 1985. Guns N' Roses first album didn't come out until 1987, so your argument already doesn't check out. Secondly, while some of those licks may be signature Slash licks, he does not have a monopoly on them. A majority of those licks are standard blues/blues-rock licks that have been around since the 60s or even earlier. Myles has stated he was influenced by Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen. Slash's major influences included Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, etc ... hence why there is some overlap in style. Thirdly, listen to Myles's work with Cosmic Dust and Citizen Swing going back to the early 90s. Many of these licks can be heard in his playing as early as then. Lastly, I never said that Myles taught Slash those licks. I know that Slash has been playing them since long before he even heard of Myles. I said that Myles has taught Slash techniques, hence to emphasise the point that Myles has his own style which he had developed years before Slash. So please, do your research and don't try to twist my words next time.

Muscle memory is muscle memory. Being a professional guitar means you can look away at most stuff you play. Looking at the fretboard is just a preference.

Every moron on here saying Myles isn't as technical or as good as Tremonti, or saying Tremonti plays with no passion, need to shut the fuck up. Musicians on this level (meaning they can actually play the instrument, compared to a five year old with no ability but plenty of music in his head) are not better or worse than one another. They all play their style. The music comes from their own minds and souls. Myles has plenty of technical ability. I'd like to see someone on here shred the way he did from 2:30 til 3:48, and if you can shred like that I'd like to see you convince Tremonti to replace Myles with you. Tremonti is an insanely fast player that plays ridiculously intricate riffs, but guess what Myles keeps up with ALL of them. And Tremonti plays his solos with all the creativity and passion he has, just because they are fast means that is his style. Has anyone heard the Addicted to Pain solo? I honestly couldn't figure out if that was a dueling solo or not and almost shit myself when I saw Tremonti played all of it. The whole band as a whole are fucking badasses. Most of the riffs on Fortress that came from Myles and Mark switching up each others riffs and bouncing ideas off each other. It's musical fusion (School of Rock quote, trust me it's legit lol). So if you have a preference to one musician or another, that's because you enjoy and maybe play the same style of music. Not because one is better than another. Once you realize this and finally knock off the big dick show and admit other musicians are talented too, and realize every musician has a ton to offer, you will finally figure out that every musician has so much they can learn from other styles. My personal playing style comes from Jimmy Page, Slash, Myles, Tremonti (his signature gallop picking style and working on my speed with his techniques on The Sound and The Story DVD), Hendrix, Zakk Wylde (mostly Pride and Glory stuff), and Keith Richards. All different styles...and basically my favorite musicians. I am no where near a professional, I can't play half the riffs these fuckers come up with, but I play with every bit of passion I have. And that's what matters.
Tuff to think of a band with 2 guitar players as good as Mark and Myles.

Couldn't care less who's better or who they compare to... They are both incredible but for different reasons, and put together with Scott and Brian they make in my opinion the best band in the world at the moment!!! And all of those solos were absolutely mind-blowing!!!
Low key Mark is the better soloist but the fact is that Myles is just as good. Maybe even better.

+Jacob Avner I highly doubt Myles got any of them from Slash, seeing as they are all blues and/or jazz licks that he has been playing since the 90s.
Besides, Slash had admitted that it's actually Myles who teaches him guitar techniques when they work together, not the other way around.
What the actual fuck man, like 80% of those tones and triplet legatos are slash signatures before Myles first picked a guitar, Myles teaches slash music theory with all the variations and stuff not licks lol
First of all, Myles first began playing guitar at the age of 15, which would have been either 1984 or 1985. Guns N' Roses first album didn't come out until 1987, so your argument already doesn't check out.
Secondly, while some of those licks may be signature Slash licks, he does not have a monopoly on them. A majority of those licks are standard blues/blues-rock licks that have been around since the 60s or even earlier. Myles has stated he was influenced by Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen. Slash's major influences included Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, etc ... hence why there is some overlap in style.
Thirdly, listen to Myles's work with Cosmic Dust and Citizen Swing going back to the early 90s. Many of these licks can be heard in his playing as early as then.
Lastly, I never said that Myles taught Slash those licks. I know that Slash has been playing them since long before he even heard of Myles. I said that Myles has taught Slash techniques, hence to emphasise the point that Myles has his own style which he had developed years before Slash.
So please, do your research and don't try to twist my words next time.
