I made my own SCOBY by purchasing GT’s regular Raw kombucha at Whole Foods, brewed a batch of strong black tea, 2 cups…. Let it come to room temperature, added 1/2 a cup of Organic raw sugar (keep in mind I was flying by the seat of my pants, just hoping it would work 😉) ….. mixed it all together with the whole jar of raw GT’s kombucha (I made sure it was shaken well in order to get all that goodness from the bottom)…. Poured it all in a half gallon mason glass jar…. Covered it with piece of cloth, tightly held on by a hair band….. left it sit on top of my fridge for 6 weeks….. and whala!!! I had a beautiful SCOBY!!!
I should also add that when I was at the store, I picked out the GT’s kombucha bottle with the MOST sediment in it!!
I also did the same to make a JUNN SCOBY…. I also used the same GT’s brand of raw kombucha (I could not find a JUNN one in my area)….. but this time I brewed a strong batch of green tea…. (2 cups) …. Added 1/2 a cup of raw honey (when it came to room temp)…. Added the GT’s raw kombucha bottle to the green tea/ honey mixture …. Covered tightly with a cloth and hair band…. Let sit on top of my fridge for 6 weeks…. Instant JUNN SCOBY! 💕❤️😉
With the JUNN SCOBY you need to brew at least 2-3 batches before it’s 100-% pure, because you make it with the regular GT’s kombucha.
Anyways…. Great video!! I hope also that my information can help someone who wants to make their own SCOBY from scratch.
I was successful twice so I KNOW anyone can do it!!
    Much love to all 💕❤️🙏🏼

This is wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to pin it. I also grew my first SCOBY with GT's in 2012. I haven't made Jun yet because I don't know if I'll like it. I assume I will but I've never had it. How often do you make your Jun?

@@KombuchaLiz oh gosh you have to try it!! It’s so so yummy!! Much less sour…. Much more bubbly …. A much lighter taste!!
Junn is so so yummy! I must admit I do not make it as often right now because it makes kombucha much, much faster!! Im so busy with canning right now and getting ready for our garden…
Junn is ready As in as little as 3 days!! So right now my Junn SCOBY is in its SCOBY hotel patiently waiting!! Also…. The added expense of the honey just isn’t realistic right now as honey is so so expensive!! But you really must try it!! So so good!! It’s especially good for those that don’t care for regular super sour kombucha!
Thank you for your kind response! I just love your channel!! It’s helped me so very much 💕❤️🙏🏼

@@trina7274 The honey expense is the main reason I haven't but you've inspired me. Thank you for the compliment and for being here ❤

Only because I've been following you for a while, I did not freak out when I swallowed a lump when drinking one of my brews. I knew right away that it was a scoby. ❤❤ I got my first scoby from the farmers market.

It is really interesting how different the SCOBY's can be. My grandma's friend brought a SCOBY from Greece and it was almost like jun, gave the best results with green tea and if you forgot it for a hot summer week it'd become some sort of.. tea vinegar. And some time ago I had a SCOBY more like the "Tibetan" one.
My current SCOBY is pretty much yeasty and I like it - the fizz appears in f1 already and if you put the kombucha under an airlock then, you could easily make "hard kombucha" without adding the extra yeast.

You mentioned in the beginning what to do if you have no starter fluid or have thrown your starter away. However you never told us what to do ?

    • @KombuchaLiz
      @KombuchaLiz  ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry for the late reply. Perhaps that was on a different video? I don't mention that in this video.
If you need start but have very little add some fresh sweet tea to what you do have. Like a cup 6 to 8 oz. Make sure it's not hot when you add it. Give it a week or 2 to ferment then you'll have your starter.
