OK, I found out what happened. I began putting CLOVE oil in my defuser to kill air born fungus like mold. I didnt know it would harm my kombucha, but it did, I will never defuse clove oil again! My scoby hotel smells very healthy today :) The new tea and good starter tea did the trick :)

Thank you. Your video was the most recent bit of information I could find on the subject. I went to the site and did the petition. I will have to wait a few days to do the physical copy but that $9 charge is totally worth it. Thank you and good luck

Hello. So glad this was helpful. I checked the website and still no updates on this. What was the $9 fee for? I don't recall paying a fee.

Hi Mary. I am so sorry to hear this. Sounds like you did a great job getting it all fixed. Can you tell me more about the smell? You said nail polish remover? Did the top layer SCOBY look normal?
I recently got kahm yeast in one of my brews and too much yeast smell (smells like butt). I don't recall a nail polish remover one though. But that is a great video idea. Kombucha smells what's normal and what's bad

It said the yeast are sick and dying. Toss the brew and start over.

@@KombuchaLiz Taken from page 168 the big book of kombucha..A smell simular to that of nail polish remover is usually created ethyl acetate, an organic compound
made up of acetic acidand ethanol. Typicaly this smell is a sign that the yeast are sick or do not have the right nutrition. Here are some of the contributing factors.4 reasons listed.
toss thebrewandbstart over with a scoby from your hotel.
it was my hotel so I did what I posted. lets pray please.
