Just ordered a g660 myself, good video I appreciate you taking the time. I also watch tons of chainsaw videos trying to better educate myself and it’s nice to watch a video by someone that’s still learning. Keep it up and stay safe!
I like your approach to these things. This is the attitude of an adult, mature man. Thanks for your videos! I ordered this saw, I'm waiting for the parcel.
I got the farmertec ms660 saw kit. Never put a saw together before but like you did my homework after a long night at work. I did my own port work changed out a few things to OEM parts. I ran the saw for a few brake in tanks of gas (little rich on oil) than started running the regular fule mix and a few minutes into a giant maple it broke in and came to life.
Well for the price difference that blue one works pretty darn good . I love my ms 261 but might buy that big beast for big logs. Thanks for the video!!👍👍
THANKS for the vedios. I'm a husky guy. 372xp light saw I do firewood. I port saws and do builds. Ive done the ms660 good saw with some aftermarket parts. They work great. I'm trying a new saw neo tec 660 put it together pleased with the port numbers now. Pop up piston. She's a ripper. I like making my friends happy. Everyone likes good running saws. Keep up the good vedios. Thanks Kenny from Texas.
Glad to hear you wanna keep it clean for the kids and families . As you learn tips maint repairs upgrades reveiws more cutting ect , as long as its knarly chainsaws count me in
Thank you for posting the video it was informative there were some things you mentioned that I never thought of when you were cleaning and comparing the saws I myself ordered a g660 and can't wait to get it.
It was easy to see the blue one cut faster, but threw more dust than chips. It didn,t have quite as high of rpm as the Stihl. The Stihl had a very little more rpm all the way through the cut and threw bigger chips but didn,t cut quite as fast. Both saws sounded real good, and you ran them both really good, didn,t bare down too hard and just pushed them as hard as they would go, but no more. It was like you knew both saws limit. This made a really good comparison for both saws. It was fair and I can,t think of anything that you could have done better. This was a real good video and test. I am glad I got to see it. I am sure the blue one won and am glad because I was thinking about getting one. I am sold on blue because the blue one sold itself. Have a great day.
Great video and very well presented.Thank You! I do have one issue though and that was your use of brake-clean to clean the nose/tip sprocket. That bearing relies on on a very small quantity of oil from the chain for lubrication. Running it bone dry after the brake-clean spritz will shorten it's life. Better to just blow it out with air or at least give it a few drops of oil after cleaning just to give it a head start until the chain's oil migrates into the bearing.
Yes sir I agree with you. I have not put a bit of oil in the roller sprocket after cleaning it out with brake-clean. I have thought about how long the sprocket will last and I do agree that it would prolong the life of the roller nose sprocket. Thank You for the tip and Thanks for watching.
@@thebustedwedge1141 Hi , thanks for the video i like it. But the correct way how to maintain the roller using the bearing grease you can see here th-cam.com/video/90blJdEDnDY/w-d-xo.html. Anyway I like your video.
That was close. I think the MS sound was smooth. I guess the G660 was needing some adjustment as you were saying. I would like to hear it again after you make the adjustment, maybe that's just as good as it gets?
Looks like either saw will cut and that is the primary goal. I saved a little money and purchased a farmertec MS660 with a 28" bar. I use 40:1 and so far it is running great. Tons of power. Thanks for the video.
I have a farmertec g660 put the good big bore piston kit in it, with the large jet walbro carb from the Stihl, custom made dual port free flowing muffler, and the saw runs really really good. I like farmertec I have 3 of them. They make a nice Husqvarna clone that rips too... husky 272. Thank you
Try Timberline sharpeners. They work very well and remove most of the variable found in hand filing. Yes they’re expensive but they’re well made and work even better. I didn’t get to see your chain tension, but it sounded tight.
I purchased a Timberline Sharpener. I don’t care to use it because I’ve had a difficult time keeping the chain straight while using it. If you can keep the teeth of your chain straight up and down while using it, it does well. I actually prefer to use a Dremel tool because I can get the teeth more sharp and I can get it done in half the time. The only issue with the Dremel is the teeth get hard because of the heat and don’t stay sharp as long. Very much like using a grinder. Just my opinion, to each their own. If someone has a system down for keeping the chain from moving so much I would say the Timberline sharpener would be just as good if not better than the Dremel. I used a hand file when I sharpened the chains in the video. I was trying to get my hand sharpening down pat. I think I may have failed. I do however think if I tickled the rakers, the chain may have thrown more chips but who knows. Thanks for watching. 🤙
I did, the issue I was having was with the stop. It seems like it wasn’t functioning the way it should. I only used it a handful of times so it’s likely I haven’t got the knack for it down yet. I plan to keep it. I just found that the Dremel tool is more efficient time wise for me. 😄
G660 are no joke..better tune give it justice..ive built a couple n whatta bargain at that price point..also cut alot of white oak as well n the chips just aren't quite the norm the woods got such tight fibre makes for awkward chips..good video dude
Wet wood, log that's been dead for awhile, softer wood (pine versus Doug Fir) = mixture of smaller chips, more fines with the bigger chips, even with a new chain.

I really enjoy the way you present your videos. Based on your review, plus others I've watched, led me to buy the G660 from Holzforma. I have yet to put it in service and want to know the best fuel mix to run this saw. I know the specs are 25:1 but I've seen guys claiming they have run this saw on 40:1. What's the correct ratio?
Thank You, I run 40:1 mix in all my saws. The fully synthetic two stroke oil nowadays is good enough that I don’t worry about it. I don’t change out for every different two stroke I have. Stihl recommends 50:1 in all of their stuff. I have ran 50:1 in my MS460 for years until within the last couple of years I switched to 40:1. I’ve never had an issue with 50:1 either but I don’t cut much at all when the temperature is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. With the 40:1 I just don’t let the saw sit and idle for very long. If I have to move a log or do something that is going to take a while I’ll shut the saw off. I did put a cap full extra of two stroke oil in with the 40:1 mix for the first three tank fulls while breaking the saw in though. But other than break in I don’t see I need for running 25:1 mix. I personally feel it’s too rich of a mix. Thanks for watching.
I like sharpening with a Dremel. I’m actually pretty good at that (unlike my hand sharpening abilities lol). The only issue with it (if there is one) is that the teeth harden because of the heat and don’t stay sharp as long. But it is my preferred method of sharpening.
I have had chainsaws most of my life and I have used just about all of them , and Stihl have always been pricey saws but they have dropped the ball in quality over the years , today they use far to much plastic and these 500i s are well over 2000 dollars , we started to go with huskies because of the price about thirty years ago , I ,m approaching my mid sixties now and I would buy this Chinese g660 in a heartbeat it is at a damn good price and it is also a good piece of gear if it is treated well and properly maintained it will last for years BTW I think you have been fair in comparing the two but in my years with lumber and saws speed does not always come out on top , a steady chain speed with a properly sharpened chain will at most times come out on top , your equipment will also last far longer !!!
You always wanna make sure the engine is up to operating temperature before making any carburetor/idle adjustments that usually takes 5-10 min. Hand filing is definitely better than a dremel because a dremel will take the hardness out of the teeth if too much heat builds up from grinding for too long. That being said when hand filing its best to sharpen frequently and then a couple passes on each tooth is all it takes to maintain a sharp edge. That log is probably partially rotten and thats why you are getting the small dusty shavings and not the longer worm like shavings.
Yeah small chips is just the old wood wanna see dust try cutting pine thats been on the ground for and weathered for a while makes your chain seem blunt even though it cuts through it fast. Fresh wood big chips lol
Still need to richen up the high side a little. New chains need a light filing or grinding to even out the teeth and also rakers can be way off spec. For a valid cutting speed test hold the bar level and don't let the dogs touch the log, just cut straight down through. Put the log up on blocks. If you run a higher ratio of mix oil like 25 or 40 to 1, you have to richen up the jets too as that causes a lean condition. (L ratio less gas to air). I would buy a blue bomber if I didn't have a deadly 066 already.
No ear, eye, or leg protection? What gas/oil mix ratio to you use with the Holtzfforma? I saw some specs that said 25-to-1 mix for the Holtzfforma, but I wonder if that's way to much oil? Thank you for your excellent review!
Lol, I had ear protection in the first portion of the video, but no eye or leg protection. I don’t normally wear eye protection (I don’t advocate for that), but I usually always wear leg protection. I did wear it when I was out in the woods and I cut down the oak tree. I should’ve worn it in the first portion as well. Good catch 😄 As far as the mixture, I run 40:1 in all my saws. I run that and I will pour a cap full of 2 stroke oil in with the first few tanks when breaking new saws in. Thanks for watching, take care. 🤙

I bought 1 a couple months ago on ebay. $260 after shipping and tax. I did have to spend $13 on a stihl fuel line from the carb and the 90 degree elbow it connects to going into the tank because it leaked out the box. But other than that so far so good.

If you can’t tell by the sound of the rpm’s that they are too high and the motor is running too lean then I don’t know what to tell you. You obviously don’t know much about chainsaws if you think that the chain is too loose. A chain that is too tight will hurt your clutch because the heat from it rotating around on the bar will cause it to tighten thus putting pressure on your clutch. I would suggest in the future that if you’re going to troll someone, you might want to do a little research first so that you don’t sound so foolish. Or don’t, either way thanks for watching.
