    I highly recommend Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast which is a great Diablo clone with great looting and hack and slash action. I think it should be on the list of hidden gems for the Dreamcast. It's made by Neverland, known for the Lufia games.

    I fucken love the Dreamcast. Best system hands down.
    *Best controller
    *Best console design
    *Best name for a system "Dreamcast"
    *Best launch titles for any system ever
    *Most revolutionary game system at the of its release.
    If PS2 didn't have the ability to play DVD (which is worthless now) Sega wouldve gave Sony a run for its money

    I know I'm really late to this party but as someone who grew up with Atari, Coleco, InTV and Odyssey and being a collector myself, I stumbled upon your vids and really like them.
    I personally have a love/hate relationship with Sega. The DC was a really fun system to have and there were many a good gems you guys outlined here.
    I'd like to add 3 rare ones to the list . 1. Carrier by Jaleco. A survival horror game completely polygonal, no pre-rendering and looks great. 2. Illbleed by AIA. Another survival horror but done with a twist. Think Fatal Frame done at a haunted carnival/amusment park. 3. Max Steel by Mattel. An action game based off the old 3D cartoon. The best licensed game that I've ever played. Should be a model of how licensed games should be.

    There are three other games I never really hear mentioned when people talk about dreamcast, but I loved them and I still pick them up and play them. Time Stalkers, Maken X and Evolution. Those three games are probably a few of my favourites for the console... Well.. D2 as well... UGH SO MANY GOOD GAMES!

    BTW, one tip on setting up the VGA cable is the many displays won't know how to auto-detect the resolution for the Dreamcast. So you may want to hook up a PC first and manually set the resolution to 640x480 before hooking up the dreamcast. The resolution is so small, it's hidden on Windows but it's there.
    Display Properties->Advanced Settings->Adapter->List All Modes

    Thank you for presenting Sega Swirl, John! I remembered to have played an awesome puzzle game on a Dreamcast demo disc, but didn't remember anymore what is was. However, when you showed it in this video, I immediately recognized it. SEGA SWIRL!

    I feel like one of the few who knew about Sega Swirl. One of the most addictive puzzle games ever. Even my mom liked playing it. It's in dire need of a remake for phones and tablets. Would play great with touch controls. It's interesting because at the time no one really talked about Sega Swirl, I often wondered if anyone else realized how awesome it was.

    From Japanese launch to end of production the Dreamcast was only around for just over 2 years. It's insane that there were 688 official games released! Of those there are probably about 50 games really worth collecting, an amount that most other systems only reached after being out for 4-5 years.

    I seriously hope these guys know about the DreamcastLive website that sells wifi pi that go into the internet jack and put the Dreamcast back online literally using your wifi. Also a ton of tutorials of what to set your Dreamcast's internet settings to play the games that are ONLINE to this day. Phantasy Star, Alien Front (with voice chat), 4x4, etc.
    I currently own a wifi pi and play Phantasy Star a few times a week

    Test Drive Le mans. It's really cheap on amazon last time I checked. It is probably among the top 4 or 5 of 'best looking games' on the system (Shenmue 1/2, D2, RE:CV wold be others on that list), the best racer I've toyed with thus far on the system, and even goes out of it's way to incorporate Day-to-night effects and varying weather conditions from bright and sunny to heavy rain, and everything in between. Not only that, but it effects how your car drives. You can NOT drive soft tires on a wet track without spinning in every turn!
    Considering that most people forget about it, yeah...get it.

    I got a VGA cable for my dreamcast for about $25 bucks on ebay. It's just a cable without a box probably rigged up by someone in China. It looked a bit funny on my 55' but it looks GREAT on my 21' PC monitor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting one if you don't have one. Huge difference in image quality, it's like the jump from composite to component on the PS2.

    Hi, looked at all 3 of the hidden gems about. Dude, how could you forget about such masterpieces. Illbleed - it's horror, but not simple, and it is at the same time as a parody, this could only make Sega. In Russia, the players love this game, but there is such a variety of levels and situations for the horror game. Come and play, highly recommend, the main pass the beginning of the first level and is crazy in a good sense of the word. Well, another game worthy of the list of Record of Lodos war - is a clone of Diablo. But the best and elegant gameplay and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

    Omikron: The Nomad Soul. One of my favorite games of all time (the original PC version plays much better though). It's criminally underrated and under appreciated.

    • @THE8-BITROAD
      @THE8-BITROAD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Collins Russell Exactly, and the soundtrack is from David Bowie himself with him as a character, what need you more!!!

    • @collinsmcrae
      @collinsmcrae 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Major Tom Oh you must be the one other person who played the game lol. I'm glad you pointed out the Bowie thing. He actually produced a whole album as the fictional band "the dreamers" for the game, and the album was actually pretty solid. If I remember correctly, his performance as Boz was supposedly one of, if not the first example of motion capture performance in a video game, as well. I to am a huge fan of Bowie, so that stuff definitely doesn't hurt my love for the game.

    • @THE8-BITROAD
      @THE8-BITROAD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Collins Russell I didn't know either that this game exist for the dreamcast, thought it only existed for the PC. When I found out about this, I bought a Dreamcast and this game last month :) The dreamers are the Band in the game, but the songs are mostly taken from Bowie's album "Hours" (with small changes in the mix), with songs like "Thursday Child", "New Angels of promise" and others ;)

    • @collinsmcrae
      @collinsmcrae 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Major Tom Didn't know that about the Bowie songs, thanks. Thanks for the correction, for some reason I thought he was commissioned to make an entire album for the game, and I thought they were all originals written with the game in mind. Still great songs either way, and one of the best soundtracks in video game history. I played the game on Dreamcast first. I actually bought it based on the cover when I was a kid, and the game totally blew my mind. Best impulse game buy ever for me. Just a few years ago I bought it for PC and my opinion didn't change one bit. Way ahead of its time.

    You totally have to play Border Down if you haven't yet! It's an excellent horizontal shooter much like Gradius V or Blazing Star, with some very interesting gameplay mechanics and awesome music. One of my all-time favorite shmups! However, be sure to read up on how to play the game, because some of the mechanics are pretty much impossible to figure out on your own (for example, you get more points the LESS time you have left on the timer after the stage boss, which is important to get extra lifes and stuff)..

    Thanks for these MetalJesusRocks - Was able to once again have a Sega Dreamcast due to buying one at Goodwill the other day for 24.99 and came with all hook ups, 4 controllers and one of them is this HUGE green controller - which I think is 3rd party because it says on it Astropro - but cannot find any info on it, a blue one, standard, and gold colored one and came with Dynamite Cop - yes! 24.99 is what I paid and Ill have to buy some of these games from the hidden gem videos - had quite a few of these games back in the day when Dreamcast launched but, once you get divorced, things get lost, but alas, I got one again and those DVD's of John's - gotta get 'em all - just like Pokemon!

    OMG...Soulreaver is definetely one of my most played games on the Playstation! The whole setting, the gameplay und the story are perfect! When you "die" you find yourself in a "non-material, etheric world/dimension" in which you have no substance and can't interact with anything. This game had it all... Never played the DC version but NOW I have to! Thx for reminding me this underrated epic milestone! (I've a total mindfucking freakout right now!)

    *Virtua Cop 2 - Very hard to find- Think it's only possible to buy via the Japanese release and SEGA smash pack. One of my favourite lightgun games with House of the Dead 2, an absolute must have. There was also an added 'Dreamcast Street' on expert mode.
    *Hidden & Dangerous - Excellent tactical 3rd person army game.
    If you can get past the initially awkward controller setup (PC Port), then it's a very rewarding, deep game. It feels very intense and is very immersive, unusual for a shooter type game. Maybe best to play with a DC keyboard and mouse, but highly recommended.
    *Millenium Soldier - Very early release in the console's life. An retro style shooter but with an isometric style, extremely enjoyable and very unheard of.
    *Super Runabout - Extremely enjoyable smash into anything, cops and robbers style, car game.
    *Death Crimson - Rare lightgun game, best described as House of the Dead with robots and very unique in it's style. One of the few lightgun games on the system and a must have.
    *Nomad Soul - An openworld game with a celebrity cameo from David Bowie, very stylised and unique. Certainly worth checking out and very immersive.
    *Blue Stinger - An early console release, enjoyable survival horror with a unique feature to buy guns from vending machines (?).
    *Sega Worldwide Soccer 2000 Euro Edition - For sure, one of the best football games on the Dreamcast with Virtua Striker 2k. The passing engine for that time, is very nice and it just feels complete. Downside, it seems very rare to get hold of.

    E.G.G. used to be a budget game forever. I remember seeing it in the $10 and under bin in a ton of stores. Now I am completing my set, and it has shot up in price. Looks like a great game though.

    I played the arcade version of Incoming once at a gas station, iirc. It was so long ago. I never knew there was a DC version. Also didn't know about Star Wars Ep.1 Racer on DC. This whole effing time I've been emulating the lousy N64 version, ughhh. Well, good to know that a better console version exists!

    One of the things that made the DC days so great were the ports that came to the DC,they were so much better then the Ps1/N64 version.The graphics and gameplay were just so much more enhanced.

    Slave zero was the best dreamcast game. Really fun and got insanely difficult. Also I'm surprised D2 wasn't on any of these episodes.

    The DC puts out VGA on it's standard connector, you just need a lead.
    My top game on the DC ever is Metropolis Street Racer. The the DNA shows in Project Gotham, but, MSR was the first to give extra points for style.

    I liked Sega Swirl. Not bad for a freebie!
    I also loved the DC version of Soul Reaver. First played it on the PS1 but got for the DC because of the better visuals.
