    I think, along with Jevil and Spamton being representations of different approaches to "your choices don't matter", they are also, in a way, representations of what players are going to do after reaching the one ending. They're going to have as much fun as possible with the game, or they're going to struggle to break free. I don't know how the rest of the secret bosses will tie into this, but just thought I'd share my thoughts.

    i think Susies line “Everybody bleeds” can be explained pretty easily. Since we’re positing that monsters were exposed to more human culture in this timeline, it could easily be reasoned that, while humans may say “everybody bleeds” in a literal sense, the phrase may have been adopted by monsters as an figure of speech. They could have been exposed to it through human media or direct interaction with humans over a long period of time, and for monsters the literal meaning behind it could have easily been lost while keeping the same figurative meaning. I have an easier time getting behind this meaning than the idea that monsters have been bleeding translucent or black fluid in both games.
    That being said, I love your videos so much and I really respect the care you put in to theory crafting (even when i dont always agree!!!) and I always look forward to your uploads. I also like to mention that Spamton Neo seems to be weak to magic: Notice how he does not use his high defense in normal route? Well he likely didn't use it cause Susie and Ralsei to an extent are there to shred through his high defense with their magic since Susie did manage to easily ward him off from taking Kris's soul by using one rude buster and he actually tries to take her out first in start of battle if the red soul didn't turned yellow to destroy the projectiles
    He only ever uses the high defense against Kris who cannot use magic and Noelle has to be called to be defeat him where her magic just ignores his high defense to finish him off
    Also the sound of Noelle call to use magic against Spamton Neo indicates that she's using Iceshock instead of snowgrave spell meaning Noelle's gotten strong in magical power that one iceshock spell can easily just defeat Spamton Neo in one go

    I really liked this video and it got me to rewatch the opening for Undertale. During the part when it explains the humans casting the barrier, we can see a human wielding a weapon unlike most of the other weapons. It glows (unlike the sword that is right next to it) and appears to have some sort of trailing effect. This led me to believe that humans do not have magic in themselves, but can harness magic through items, like a staff or wand. If this is true I think it’d be neat if we could get a magical weapon for Kris in the later chapters.
    I remember seeing a theory awhile ago that the mysterious artifact in the piano puzzle room in water falls was an item that could be used to summon magic. This is because in early concepts for the Undertale combat system there was a magic system that was removed. Some people thought that the annoying dog stealing the artifact was symbolic of Toby Fox removing the magic mechanic. I think this crackpot theory could semi connect to the idea of humans using magic, it’s just the Toby has been preventing the humans we play as from using it.

    You know, despite being a theory. I still love that there's a moral here, in the story you're telling. Rather it ends up being what Deltarune is about or not. My grandpa was hospitalized with Cancer about a year ago, and just weeks before he died, I was joking with my boyfriend that Deltarune predicted what happened with my grandpa, and I guess we'll see who goes first him or Rudy. May have been a joke in poor taste but, my Grandpa loved that kind of humor. I'm going way off topic, what I'm trying to say is, the whole point that you're trying to make here with the phrase "Don't Forget" is beautiful, we lost him Nov.30th 2021, and its like despite the fact that someone I looked up to as a role model had been taken away from me, and it just seems like the world has moved on. Making a distinction between time travel and restoring the world to a previous state is interesting. I wonder what that means for the fact that, depending on which of the three save files you have, the contents of asriel's drawer next to his bed changes. I remember a lot of people's gut reactions were "parallel universes!", but I don't remember any theories utilizing that detail

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +132

      I'll be honest, I keep forgetting about that little detail with Asriel's drawer. If I were to guess, I'd assume that the different save files represent different timelines that used to exist. Like, you know how my theory argues that the timeline has been reset multiple times? I would guess that the save files represent different iterations of the DELTARUNE timeline, with slight differences. Like, Save File #1 is the 26th version of this timeline, the Angel resets, and then Save File #2 is the 27th version, or something like that. The timelines all play out mostly the same, because the Angel took away their memories, but because some dejavu dwells within their souls, that would cause some minor butterfly effects, and thus that might be what the different stuff in Asriel's drawer is meant to show.
      But that's just a theory I invented right this second. I could totally be wrong of course. Either way, thank you for bringing that up! I keep forgetting about that. And thank you for the comment! x)

      @@JaruJaruJ There’s a lot I still don’t understand with the theory at large, why didn’t the angel simply erase the ability to absorb souls for example and instead bottle up everything in a/the dark world?
      Where does gaster fit into this proper, given this is some form of experiment that he is observing, given the black and green save files that he comments on us tweaking, copying, erasing, etc.
      And I think it’s safe to say that each boss, both main and secret is their own character, and I feel the knight will be the same, even if the knight is gonna parallel kris by being pupated itself (and I don’t see people say this often but the Knight being exclusively referred to as “It” and the fact that it’s the main progenitor of dark fountains is probably wordplay on Toby’s part for it being literally “The Night” in some capacity)
      And one smaller thing with the “ability to destroy”, chara’s twisted form at the end of the no mercy route did destroy everything, leaving nothing but hollow wind. (‘Less you give them your soul of course)
      And as for healing, I personally believe healing magic can and did exist, it simply wouldn’t work on people with illness such as Asgore being sick from the buttercups in UT (which you pointed out in a previous video if im not mistaken?) And the fact that if the war didn’t exist (which is a possibility), there was probably no push to make magical technology out of desperation and the lacking seeming fantasy/medieval tools at the time would probably mean it couldn’t develop before it faded out
      (Unrelated to above but:) not to mention determination being something that can warp time and space is probably being reutilized to create pocket worlds, or portals to adjacent spots in a separate universe/dimension that is the dark world

      I mentioned this in my own comment, but because you’re also able to transfer the secret boss items to other save files even if you didn’t defeat them in that file, I think there’s something to it. What i’m thinking is Toby’s going to give us this ultimatum: There’s going to be the Snowgrave and possibly 1 other route that will need to be completed in order to get the one, true ending, since we have the 3 files. But this means that you need to complete the Snowgrave route in order to get some resolution to the story - where originally you never had to do the Genocide route to really finish Undertale. Maybe this is Gaster’s new experiment - to see how far we will go to save this world. And maybe it’ll all be for naught. Maybe the Angel HAS to reset the world to save it from absolute calamity.
      i love all of this speculation lol

    This is kinda a minor off topic thing but for that bit about Susie's "Everyone Bleeds" line, you're right that a lot of speculation has come from that line but oddly I haven't seen much mention of the other times susie casually brings up blood. Like when giving Susie heart donuts makes her exclaim "Blood!", because of the red jam in it. I guess there's not much to draw from this except that in her mind blood = cool but it is something that has stuck out to me in the great "are monsters blood or not" debate. Toby fox has unused sprites in the code of deltarune of Kris blushing because of being near ralsei. I think Toby added this into the code on purpose despite knowing that Kris does not respect, care about, or trust Ralsei because he wanted to make it clear that if anything is unused, it's because it does not follow the rules or logic of that world. Therefore, the unused sprites of Susie bleeding actually prove that Susie, and logically every other monster, does not bleed.

    I think the way that the humans were able to use magic was just through magic items. Sure, monsters are made of magic, but there's several items that also have at least some magic in them. In Deltarune, if you give one of these magic items to Kris and check the stat menu, it actually gives them magic. It's believable that a properly trained human, equipped with the right items, might be able to cast some sort of magic, even if not with the expertise of a monster.

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      That may be true. But even those magical items had to be built by monsters. Magic doesn't seem to be a natural force in the universe. All magic has been exclusively mentioned within the context of being made by monsters, so it's hard for me to believe that any humans have real access to magic. But that's just my opinion of course.

I don't think it would take a whole lot of magic, after all even though humans probably wouldn't be able to use magic with the same precision of a monster (as I said in my comment), their determination would probably make any magic they cast extremely powerful, like how we can use our determination to power up Susie and Ralsei's magic during boss fights.

    While thinking about your theory, specifically Jevil and Spamton's reactions to learning the truth, a thought popped into my head: what if the reaction of each chapter's secret boss discovering this "forbidden knowledge" will be based on the seven soul traits, or possibly a corrupted side of them?
    If this is true then what soul traits do Jevil and Spamton personify in their chapters? I'll be using the ball game results from Undertale, and the dictionary definition of each trait (only when the ball game is too vague, leaves holes, and just to give more support to this theory) to answer this question and also predict the nature of every future secret boss we encounter.
    Of the two bosses we've currently faced against, Jevil is the harder one to match to a trait, but I believe the one Jevil personifies the most is INTEGRITY. Ball game describes this with "hopping and twirling" with an "original style." Now at first the dictionary definition of integrity may contradict this trait belonging to Jevil, but as you said Jevil discovering the truth resulted in him becoming selfish and just wanting to have fun. What if his integrity was shifted away from others and towards himself, and is therefore a corruption of the trait?
    Thankfully Spamton G. Spamton's trait is much easier to pinpoint than Jevil: PERSEVERANCE. With this revelation completely breaking Spamton, he sought to resist it. He "felt trapped" and "took notes (about soul power, the NEO suit, etc.)" to achieve his goal. His constant attempts to get into the basement of Queen's Mansion, and trying to stop Kris from interfering with his plans in the Snowgrave Route really shows his persistence to achieve such a difficult task, no matter the cost.
    Now for the prediction and speculation part of this theory, I will begin with the KINDNESS trait. I believe that some chapter will have a more religious tone to it (this belief ties back to the possibility the town's church will eventually be the location of a dark world, and hinges on "Chess Theory" in that one of the Dark World villains will be a bishop), and the secret boss of it will fear and worship The Angel. They will try and spread kindness wherever it can, so that when The Roaring inevitably happens The Angel may look down on them with mercy and spare them from the fate of everyone else. When it sees Kris and the others try to "defy" The Angel by sealing the fountains, they will of course see it as them trying to prevent The Roaring, an event this character has grown to look forward to, and will try to stop Kris. This character personifies a "concern and care" towards others, but only an empty one that results in an eventual reward it believes in.
    JUSTICE could be that of a similar desire to Spamton in wanting to "end the mayhem," however in Spamton's case he only defied The Angel for himself. JUSTICE will be brought for the good of everyone. Now this may be a bold claim, but I believe whoever this is could be The Knight. They saw what The Angel will do and plans to stop it. The Knight is the one who has begun to create dark fountains in order to bring The Angel out of hiding so they can try and defeat it. However The Knight is misguided by what they've seen because they do not know exactly why The Angel has been doing this in the first place. The Knight is making a judgement without knowing the full picture.
    Now PATIENCE is a bit tricky. The ball game implies a malicious intent, whereas the dictionary definition is a "suffering without anger or upset". I feel this character's twist on the trait could be similar to that of how Sans acted in Undertale. Not angry or defiant about the situation they are in, but more or less accepting and hopeless. It will only wait for an opportunity to strike back when " "Ball" is "Small" (More on that later)."
    As for BRAVERY... This one is probably the hardest of them all to exactly figure out with what we are given, but one definition of bravery I came across is "the quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty." Perhaps this character will at first be able to resist the plunge into insanity once discovering the truth of their reality, but eventually they will take advantage of the situation that has been revealed to it, just like Jevil, and act poorly based on it by "rushing fists-first though all obstacles." Perhaps it could even go down the route Flowey, or Undertale's Player, did and eventually have no regard for others: boldly finding fun in the pain and suffering it causes, knowing it'll all just be undone.
    The final trait is that of the red soul. Now although there isn't a trait in Undertale for it, it's widely speculated to be that of DETERMINATION or LOVE as you theorized in a previous video. Now here comes another bold claim: what if the character representing this trait, is The Angel itself? However instead of being a secret boss, it will be the final boss. What perfect way to illustrate a corrupted form of determination and love, than that of a character who alters the timeline according to their own will of what it believes is best for everyone, but not realizing the true suffering is has created? Of course as you stated in your theory, this would be an unwinnable battle, and The Angel will reset everything... or is it?
    "Bravery, Justice, Integrity, Kindness, Perseverance, Patience. Using these, you were able to win at "Ball Game"." It is my personal belief that Ball Game in Undertale is a metaphor for both The Angel and Deltarune as a whole. Toby Fox has stated Deltarune will only have one ending, however I believe there is a loophole to this. If your theory is true, an endless loop in the timeline really has no end until it is stopped. You will only achieve an ending when The Angel is defeated. By fighting each and every secret boss you acquire a shadow crystal, and they will join you whether it is the form of a weapon or armor. I believe using these traits together as one you will "de-corrupt" them, weaken The Angel ("Ball" is "Small"), win at "Ball Game," and is how to achieve the true, ONLY, ending to Deltarune: by giving the world an ending that was stolen, whatever the result of that may be. This is my Ball Game Theory.
    Update: Something else has recently popped into my head that may support this theory of mine regarding the bosses "working together" to defeat The Angle. Depending on how you defeat them they give the player a weapon or armor, so perhaps a required element to get this "true ending" is you battle the 6 bosses in such a way that you get 3 weapons and 3 armors for each hero, and only those in the right combination will allow you to be strong enough to battle The Angle. Like since Jevil sees this as a fun game and wouldn't want it to end, it would be better to have his armor instead of him as a weapon, or The Knight would pass on his blade to Kris if you kill it.

      Very cool analysis! I definitely agree with your assessment of Jevil and Spamton. Spamton DEFINITELY represents perseverance, I'll be talking about that in my next video, and I Jevil representing integrity actually makes more sense than you think! Integrity just means being true to your values, and if what Jevil is an egoist (someone who believes the greatest moral good is doing whatever makes you happy) then him being this confident, cheerful force of chaos makes perfect sense! He knows who he is and what he wants, and he stays true to that! Great idea. x)

    Further fuel to the idea that the Dark World is where the magic is sealed away:
    1. Ralsei is connected to Asriel. Is Ralsei "a being of pure darkness" because he is literally the personification of Asriel's sealed away magic?
    2. Is that why Ralsei is different to other Darkners? He's pure magic, while the other Darkners are light world objects given life from magic. Sort of like the difference between monsters and humans, even though they're still lightners.
    3. Is that why Susie and Ralsei's magic always gets powered up when we fight Chaos King and Queen? We're right next to a Dark Fountain, the source of magic, and it's just giving them both a turbocharge of magic.

    This is definitely a pretty late comment, but after thinking about Spamton's dialogue about trying to "see too far", I think the motive behind the angel resetting becomes more clear. As you said, humans were not necessarily afraid of magic itself, so it doesn't make perfect sense for the angel to get rid of it. What makes much more sense in my mind is that after one monster gained the power of a god, they were too selfish to let anyone else get to that level. So, after potential attempts of creating a new "angel", the original angel wanted to punish everyone for trying to "see too far" and sealed the monsters' magic to limit their power.

    i came up with a little theory to explain susie's line about bleeding and some other things about her. it's generally accepted that susie is new in town and doesn't really fit in, what if she was adopted by humans, or at least be raised amongst them, maybe before she moved she lived in a town when she was the only monster, that could cause her to be confused about who bleeds and who doesn't when everyone around her had always bled. to take it even further maybe sth happened to her monster parents, resulting in her being put in something akin to foster care, that would explain her not calling her parents, not having her own room and any friends because of frequent moving, and her being very insecure about food.

Everybody bleeds is also another reference, the only counter argument may be the small rabbit that asks us if it's painful the fact that we are made of blood, but maybe, but maybe small monsters aren't made of blood (kinda like most insects aren't made of blood) so my guess is that big monsters are still made of bones and blood (i think Susie kinda breaks an arm while falling from the garbage pile) and by the end of deltarune we will probably see sans ending up in the Undertale universe/timeline for some reasons (maybe to escape the angel reset powers, since during the genocide fight just talks about the fact that everything is pointless, since everything will end up resetted regardless, probably was referring to Flowey, but it may be referring to something that experience in his home world, since is basically confirmed that sans isn't originally from the Undertale world)

      Everything points out to a horrible monster
      Wait, i get it
      It allows a human to USE magic. Remember how monster's attunement to their soul is because they are made out of magic? it means their soul is the one responsible of using said magic
      Now, what if a human, with their insanely powerful soul had the ability to use magic?
      Because remember, a soul of a monster is VERY weak, so why would absorbing one make someone so dangerous?
      It's not that their soul would become way more powerful, but rather that they could use their soul to evoke magic
      And you may ask "and how could someone just command another soul's power like that?"
      And i point to Asriel: he literally steals the souls and commands their power, IT IS possible to do so
      And the power is 100% additive, since as we know, a single missing soul was the only thing keeping Flowey from becoming the god of hyperdeath. The souls can work with each other

    If the secret bosses all react differently to learning that their choices don’t matter, here are what some of the next bosses could do:
    Chapter 3: if Mike is the secret boss, he could be trying to entertain others, they don’t know it’s all meaningless, and they can all still enjoy life, might as well make it as fun for them as possible in the little time they have left.
    Chapter 4: they are gonna be as evil as possible. Up until now, they couldn’t do anything evil or frowned upon by society without being punished, or even just feeling guilty, but now that it doesn’t matter, they are gonna try to satiate that curiosity, of what it would be like to try to make everyone else just have a miserable time.
    Chapter 5: They’ll try to join the Angel, communicate with them, get on their good side, in the hopes of getting taken out of the loop, even if it means treading on everyone else.
    Chapter 6: Nothing. They are gonna sit there and do absolutely nothing. Not like it matters. The Fun Gang just needs to fight them with to get the Shadow Crystal?
    Chapter 7: I think this chapter won’t have a secret boss, it’s gonna be the climax of everything, and doesn’t need extra side content.

    Due to the fact Entry 17 is clearly referring to a Dark Fountain, and due to the glowing pillars in the CORE being called Darkness Totems in the files, It's likely the ability to use the magic they were made of is tied to Darkness. After all, I don't recall any instances of the monsters wielding magic before the seal and during the early days in Home. Remember, in Waterfall there's statements of them having to use the crystals to light the way because the underground was so dark. Why would that be an issue if the rulers could wield fire magic, unless they couldn't wield fire magic at the time?
    The earliest instance I have of magic even being used (Please tell me if there's an earlier instance, because I couldnt find any in my playthrough) unrelated to Determination was the CORE (If Determination can seal a Dark Fountain, it can probably also seal other openings), so it makes sense for that to be the origin point of Monster Magic. It certainly helps that Asriels' Angel Of Death form's wings look like Dark Fountains. Of course, this'll all depend on Chapter 3 if monsters have some sort of reaction to being in the library (Or potentially, after the chapter 3 fountain is sealed, depending on how large the range of it is due to the door being left open by Kris).
    What this would mean is that Gaster, trying to find a way to shatter the Barrier, somehow came to learn of the Dark World to obtain the magic sealed away from it. Enough magic to shatter the barrier. When he learned of the Angel, he probably injected himself with Determination, and then since a monster soul couldn't leave the body, he jumped into the Dark Fountain to seal it, trapping him in the Dark World or the Angel's Heaven in a desperate last ditch effort. As a result this would give Monsters a slight boost to their magic, and grant them the ability to wield it freely.
    Now onto an unrelated topic that i want to get discussion going on: Why does Kris have 3 save files? I thought save files could only be increased through the absorption of SOULs as demonstrated by Omega Flowey.

    • @CipherionYT

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Thank you for the extensive comment! My thoughts:
      Entry 17 could most certainly be referring to Dark Fountains, that's definitely possible, but I'm fairly certain that the monsters had magic long before they ended up in the underground. Asgore is seen wielding a Trident in the flashback, which is an energy weapon he summons, and none of the books in UNDERTALE, despite discussing magic and monster history at length, state or imply that they only unlocked magic when they arrived in the underground. I do agree that it would be cool if there was some secret "the underground is a Dark World" style of retroactive lore for UNDERTALE, but I really do think DELTARUNE is doing its own unique thing. If magic was new to them, they would bring it up at some point.
      As for Gaster and the CORE and the Dark Fountain theory, there's a lot of unknowns here. We barely know anything about Gaster, we don't know if Dark Fountains can even exist outside of the DELTARUNE reality, we don't know if Gaster even knew about Determination or how to use it, and we don't know if him falling into the CORE has anything to do with monsters wielding magic. Plus, if there was a Dark Fountain in the underground, shouldn't there be Darkners wandering around? It's all just a little bit too unsubstantiated for my tastes.
      As for the multiple save files thing, I don't really think the save files have much significance. I could be wrong, but I'm not super invested in the whole theory surrounding save files signifying the level of Determination of the wielder.
      Of course, that's just my perspective. Thank you once again for the comment. x)

      We don't know if Asgore's Trident is a magical weapon in the flashback.
      What if, during the War Asgore had a real, physical trident. But, after being sealed underground, and gaining better magic, he just prefers to use energy weapons since they're more effective. And, since he already has experience with a trident, he just uses an energy trident.
      Also, there isn't anything stating that magic was somewhat recent... But, there isn't much stating that magic existed for a long time either. Aside from that one artifact that dog ate, there is really a lack of like, ancient magic texts or artifacts or anything like that. Honestly a lot of monsters seem to just kinda wing it.
      Buut, I'm just playing Devil's advocate here so I have to bring up something else...
      Toriel left after the Chara incident, which theoretically happened like a hundred years ago. And she can comfortably use fire magic just like Asgore.

      Its also important to note that of all the Undertale characters, only the Dreemurr family seems to be plot relevant, so far. Mostly because of Asriel coming back from college on the final day and Ralsei.
      Other characters from Undertale seem to only be there to exposit little bits of world building and Undertale references. Only new characters seem to have the most impact on the plot; The Holiday family, Berdly, Susie, some Darkners, etc.
      Also, Mr. Big "G", Mr. "666 speaks with hands tra la la" is probably not relevant either. The whole point of him is to be a meta background character who shapes the setting in vague ways if at all. Like a collectable or easter egg.

    This is one of the best DT theories on YT currently. I do have some thoughts to spare, though. Do you think Noelle may play a bigger role in the grand scheme? She's dressed like an angel, her battle animation looks like prayer, and her gown looks like an angel you put on top of a Christmas Tree. Not to mention, Spamton refers to her as an [Angel]. I think even the Addison that sells the Freeze Ring did during the Snowgrave Route. So maybe she's connected to the Angel? Or is some planned host/vessel? It would fit with her flying and eyes suddenly turning white.
    Speaking of Snowgrave, it's probably worth noting but something I don't see many people talking about, is that Noelle can somehow hear the Player Input? Few other characters seems to know about their world being a game, so I find it strange that the fanbase seems to ignore this alot. Could she possibly have some sort of psuedo meta awareness, but doesn't understand it properly?
    Another thing to note is that Snowgrave only happens after you pressure Noelle into it. But the way her dialogue is seems to imply she it's not that she doesn't know the spell, but associates it with some traumatic memory. Maybe magic at its most powerful where trauma is involved?

      It's interesting that there's Angel connections with Noelle, although what exactly it means I'm not sure. I don't really think Noelle is the Angel itself, but there's definitely something going on there. Maybe the Knight is trying to pull a Kingdom Hearts, and is looking to prepare worthy vessels to house the Angel? Not sure.
      I think it's implied that Noelle is hearing the voice of whatever entity is controlling Kris. Whether that means Noelle is literally hearing us, the player, or whether she's hearing the voice of some other character hiding inside Kris' soul, I'm not sure.
      Trauma fueling magic is an interesting concept. That said, Noelle pretty explicitly states that she doesn't know what Snowgrave is, and I don't think she's the type to lie, so I'm not sure on that point.
      Regardless, thank you very much for the kind words and thorough comment!

      @@JaruJaruJ We actually can confirm that Noelle can hear us, thanks to the hospital sequence. She describes the 'voice unlike Kris'' as 'A terrifying voice', then uses that same adjective moments later when describing what Kris says from the player input (Assuming you neither walk towards her nor have her watch on) of either 'to see your father' or 'to see you'. Furthermore, if someone else was hiding in Kris' Soul, there would be no need for them to say anything if not to resist us. (We are a canonical force influencing Kris. Many seem to be trying to resist this fact, but there is no escape.) Thus, either there is a similarly terrifying voice trying to push her away from us, and thus incidentally pushes her into our choices, or there is no such other entity, and it's just us.
      But as for the angel connection, there's something especially interesting: Noelle is only called 'Angel' when on the Snowgrave route. Further, the save points that say anything at all, barring the first one (See 'by second nature, you reach out, and...') mention power. Think back to the genocide ending in Undertale. Think about the ending in which Flowey doesn't kill Asgore that is still a Neutral route. And remember how Toby called this 'A normal RPG'. This is why I think, despite how horrible it is to do, the Snowgrave path might actually lead as close to a 'good ending' as we can get. After all, the golden flower children of Undertale represent the core values that Deltarune seems to hold. (Plus, there's something going on with 6 here, but I haven't quite figured that one out yet. Definitely another connection between Gaster and Spamton, though.)
      I know I said more than I needed to, but... well, food for thought. Not like it matters, after all.

    Ah, yes, the "deltarune monsters can't use magic" theory.
    They can still use magic, we just haven't been shown them using magic in the light world, because they've never needed to do so.
    The famous batter on the stove is a product of Toriel teaching Kris to cook. We know Kris, who definitely lacks fire magic, has used the stove, so we can't make any conclusions about how often Toriel uses fire magic to cook from the presence of batter left behind by Kris learning to make pie.
    The healing magic thing is pure speculation, we don't know how it worked in undertale. Seems rather likely that it can't heal every injury, and it's more than possible that Toriel only learned how to use it in the very long time she spent in the ruins(thus making her incapable of using it here due to never having had the time or opportunity to learn it.)
    The hospital presumably exists to both apply healing magic, and use the forms of medicine that humans are familiar with: why wouldn't they make use of both human and monster methods of healing in a world where the two appear to be at peace?
    Noelle's comment would align with this:She says "everything", very obviously referring to her father's illness.
    The logical conclusion with Berdly having not turned to dust is that he isn't dead yet.
    He's not brain-dead, because he would turn to dust if he was: a truly brain-dead person is also known as a corpse.
    Berdly is simply "fallen down", comatose.
    I cannot stress enough, a coma(which is what the state of having "Fallen Down" is) is not the same as brain death.
    Susie's line about everybody bleeding is very obviously a metaphor. She doesn't literally mean that everyone bleeds, she just means that nobody is invincible: that no matter who they are, she intends to brutally murder them.
    Sans' "blood" is supposedly ketchup, but it makes sense that a skeleton would bleed, given how bone marrow produces blood to begin with.
    There is strong evidence to show that they do use magic:
    Note that Susie, Noelle, and Berdly all show no suprise at their supposedly newfound ability to use magic. Both Susie and Noelle are more confused by everything else(where the ax came from, and why Kris won't stop telling her to "proceed".)
    Additionally, if, during the tutorial, you refuse to have Ralsei pacify the Dummy, he questions if humans can even ask others to use magic. This is very important, because it's one of the only times any Darkner differentiates between the two types of Lightner. Clearly, Ralsei believes monsters can use magic, while humans cannot.
    Perhaps the biggest proof is that Kris looked up how to use magic, and Queen deemed that search important enough to include it in their room.
    We know Kris likes to be more like their adoptive family(the horned headband), so them attempting to learn magic off the internet, as well as through studying the occult(seemingly including being interested in demon summoning classes based on one of the things they will click on while fighting Poppups), heavily implies that the Dreemurrs do use magic, they're just not shown doing so.

      That's all quite possible, to be sure. Like I said, I personally don't believe in this "magic still exists and we just haven't seen it yet" interpretation, but given how little we know, it's absolutely a valid possibility. Nothing you said disproved what jaru said. Next time, watch the damn video before talking here. Kris is only interested in the magical side of occult, due to having some memories of magic. As Jaru said in his video, monsters are still made of magic, they just can't use spells at any extent in the light world. Healing magic heals all wounds, you are gonna have to see that for yourself, it isn't a mystery. Since they're made of magic, casting spells in the dark world without surprise only proves this theory right, as it is in their nature. There has not been one mention of anything remotely magical except for when Catti, a edgy teen that believes Susie is bad, talks about occult. @@sayyidassons9332 "Nothing you said disproved what jaru said"
      Here's the thing. Jaru is the one making the extraordinary claim here. The burden of proof lies on them to prove those claims, not on me to disprove them.
      "Next time, watch the damn video before talking here."
      I did watch the video. I directly addressed the major bits of evidence they presented, I could not have done so without watching the video.
      Next time, read the comment before making a fool of yourself by accusing someone of not having watched the videos.
      For convenience, I'll even go over the most important bits, and dumb it down for you.
      -Kris uses the stove, which means that it is not evidence for or against this.
      -We know nothing about healing magic or its limits even in Undertale. There is no strong argument to be made here, it's pure speculation.
      -The latter argument includes Noelle's comment about healing magic: There is no way to know whether she means healing magic doesn't exist outside the dark world, or if it is simply more limited.
      Notably, her wording is deliberately designed to leave this open: She says "where everything can be healed with a simple spell", not "Where you can heal people with magic". It is a huge leap from "Healing magic can't cure the lesbian deer's dad" to "Monster can't use magic."
      -The monster characters are all capable of using magic in the dark world, and none show any suprise at this, even Noelle, who is suprised at everything else. There's no learning curve for any of them even Noelle pulls off every spell she attempts first try, iceshock, sleep mist, heal prayer, even snowgrave. This heavily implies that they are capable of magic of some form in the light world.
      Even ignoring their lack of suprise, why would monsters gain the ability to use magic in the dark world, but not humans? We know from Undertale that humans can use magic in certain conditions, originally Frisk was even going to be capable of it. Dark world magic clearly has different rules, so monsters being made of magic(but incapable of using it in the light world) shouldn't be a factor.
      -Kris, who has a desire to be more like their adoptive family, studied the occult and looked up how to use magic. Their attempts to learn magic heavily imply that the Dreemurrs are capable of using magic.
      -In one of the only instances of a Darkner differentiating between humans and monsters(which is by itself enough to say that it is important), Ralsei says during the tutorial: "Kris, do you... know what a spell is? Can *humans* not even ASK people to use them?"
      On top of being one of the few times that any darkner differentiates between humans and monsters(rather than just lumping them together as Lightners), this is important for one other reason: Ralsei has a suspicious amount of knowledge of the Light World. That he specifies humans strongly implies that monsters use magic in the light world. If he believes monsters cannot use magic in the light world, then he should say lightners here, as the only lightners he has met are Kris and Susie, and he has not seen Susie use magic yet.

    • @sayyidassons9332
      @sayyidassons9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Missingno_Miner I did read your comment, and I accused you of not watching the video because he mentioned theories that magic still exists in his video and went over why they don't work. The reason humans don't gain magic is because they never could use it in the first place, despite what the notorious intro may have you believe. Alphys, a person who studied human souls, said herself that the barrier was locked with soul power which is a different thing from magic, and the books in the library say that humans can't express themselves through magic the way monsters can. The only way a human could theoretically use magic is by understanding how it works and by having a magical tool/weapon and we have no evidence that the humans that fought in the war had that those skills or tools, as based on what the notes in waterfall say, most of the humans probably didn't even use weapons that much. Also
      ," healing magic can't heal the reindeer guy" to "monsters can't use magic" is not a large leap at all, because if Toriel knew how to use any kind of magic, then healing magic would be something she'd remember how to and still would use because it is useful regardless of what terms the humans are on. But no, she never heals Kris when they are hurt, nor Rudy who is in the hospital. We know from Undertale that Toriels healing magic can help you even if you are at 1 HP, so the fact that shyren is there too with no injuries except to her voice is evidence that hospitalization is the only way that they have of healing people. Also, using unused sprites as evidence for your point is stupid, because when Toby fox doesn't use something, it is because it does not fit in with the lore or rules of that game. Plus, even if Frisk was supposed to use magic, that means nothing except that Toby fox was originally planning for the stick that frisk starts off with to have magical powers. I apologize for stating that you didn't watch the video

    You know what would be interesting? Let's go with the supposition that all of your theory, in its entirety, is correct. That doesn't *require* that the ending of the game be that the Angel resets the world back to zero, undoing everyone's memories. There are two ways to prevent humanity from being scared of the unnatural powers of monsters: seal the powers away, or *give humans that power too*. I challenge the bleakness of the "nothing truly matters" idea, and place an alternate ending where Kris finally gets to know what it's like to wield magic, finally gets to fit in with their family, and the fear of the Angel's Heaven can finally be put to rest forever. The Angel, instead of being filled with fear at conflict, learns to accept that sometimes conflict just happens, and instead of binding everyone's memories, simply levels the playing field by raising everyone up to be capable of wielding magic before finally allowing themself to rest.

      "Choices do matter, they just aren't always apparent" would be a way better theme than "choices don't matter". Everyone gets one ending, but the actions that led up to that ending must be totally separate from those of other's endings. Each of us is small and insignificant, but any tiny choice to make the world a better place still helps make the world a better place; continuing to fight for a better world in the face of utter hopelessness just fits way better thematically; instead of giving up like the secret bosses do and focus on yourself until the end, reject the hand you've been dealt and try to change the world for the better even when it seems impossible. Maybe it's just my sheer aversion to grimdarkness and hopelessness in media, but the "timeline gets reset no matter what and there is no happy ending" feels way too bleak.

    Something I’d like to add is that maybe in this version of events, instead of the story ending with the angel “reawakening”, maybe the game is about creating the angel who will perpetuate this time loop and I think that angel could very well be Noelle. In Snowgrave, Spamton (someone who you’ve demonstrated to be knowledgeable about the time loop if the theory is correct) directly refers to Noelle as “angel” and even in the normal route Noelle compares herself to an angel a few times. Alright, ive stopped repeatedly pausing the video and finally gotten through the whole thing and, wow, that is one hell of a shot in the dark. It may or may not be the most precise prediction with just a loose basis, but its not only one of the few that still leaves room for the compelling story that Toby likely wants to tell, but is practically woven into it.
    Behind the spamton dialog, the stuff you brought up from the asriel fight I'd say is a close second in importance to this idea. It was a great reminder to me that deltarune was the game toby wanted to make for a long time, and UT was the pieces of that put into a more approachable smaller scale project. It makes so much sense to think about what the deltarune-shaped final boss had to say, but I never thought that much about the dialogue there. Probably because its easy to get caught up in the grand last romp of the game. Of course the idea toby had of deltarune had to have changed over time, but the similarities still seem strong enough to make connections.
    If I had to build on another idea of how an aspect of UT could have been expanded into deltarune in the way you've done here, it would be the funeral custom of sprinkling monster dust on a monster's favorite item in UT so that their essence lives in that item, and what even is a darkner in DR. With how you described this possible banishment of magic, its dramatic and I love it, but, why does it bring about a world of living inanimate objects when it leaks? Have we even tried to ask whether or not these things possess souls of any kind, let alone monster or human ones?
    Your version of the dark world's origin makes me think that if this magic darkness seeping into the light world through fountains was a long lost magic monsters once had to express themselves, are darkners items that, somehow, are imbued with some mixed essence of monsters in a greater sense? Maybe with determination being suggested as an important part of the fountains, and darkners needing to be compatible with the "will of the fountain" to not turn to statues, are both magic and determination the needed ingredients to fully bring out darkners? This has interesting implications when you consider how asriel was revived as flowey: his dust was spread on a flower that was later injected directly with determination.
    There's definitely issues with this. Darkners don't appear to be impacted by any lack of soul like flowey was, although they were made through different processes. it's often brought up that lightners used to exist among them long ago, with the spade king even having abandonment issues over it. And why are darkners predisposed to be helpful to lightners like ralsei says? Where this supposed darkner history plays into the story might be the most likely part where theories predicting the future story of the game may fall apart.

      I probably should have discussed how I think the Dark Fountains are a mix of Determination and Magic, and that's how they create Darkners, but I guess in my script I decided to wait to discuss that in my Ralsei video, since the nature of Darkners is pretty integral to discussing the nature of Ralsei. In fact, most of what you point out in this comment are going to be addressed in my Ralsei video. As such, so as to not spoil anything, I won't give too detailed of a response. That said, I do think you're asking some very important questions and we are most certainly in very similar ballparks in terms of our thought processes.

      @clutchbridge 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems likely in this theory that some of the magic that was sealed away ends up inhabiting objects in the presence of a dark fountain in order to create the darkners. Perhaps the king's abandonment issues are a manifestation of this split between the magic that makes them and the monsters they came from, and the talk about living with the lightners is metaphorical for when they were one and the same.
      It's also possible that their memories of times before the dark fountain are not true memories but remnants from the items or magic that make them up, or possibly even from the determination of the one who opened the fountain.

    Assuming taking in human souls inherently changes your form, it would make sense that the Angel wouldn't have shown their face yet. As you mentioned, Asriel would be too easy. I believe the Angel is none other than Papyrus himself. While not only being a subtle not-so-subtle joke on the state of the game's development, his subtle presence being known only to the player is a reference to the state of the Deltarune community as a whole; the endless theory-crafting that we go through while waiting for this game.
    Thus, I have concluded that Papyrus is a metaphor for the Game Theorist, a meta analysis of Deltarune itself, the true antagonist of Deltarune, and that we will be going on a date with him by the end of the game. Toby Fox you genius.

    I really like this theory especially with the fact of resetting and erasing memories. From the save menu in the beginning of Deltarune it is starkly different from the fancy ones later on. Green and bare bones. The narrator as you choose to duplicate or erase several files sounds akin to that of who we think may be Gaster, scientific and calculated, just as the same narrator was during vessel creation. This indicates that at some point before being usurped by another entity in both vessel creation and save files, Gaster had influence over that part of the world in Deltarune.
    The memoryheads in Undertale having the same blocky, redacted textboxes when trying to speak to them normally resembled the white redacted blocks that cloud the heads of the monsters you are saving in the pacifist route as they can't remember you. Being able to use the cellphone and decode what the memoryheads have to say is really interesting with Deltarune and using the cellphone in the Dark World. Since it's "garbage noise" resembles a hidden Gaster file in Undertale, and in Sans' part of the secret lab we find a poorly drawn image of 3 smiling people with "don't forget" written on it, as well as the album is Sans with people we don't recognize - it seems there is a strong connection to memory, Gaster, saving/loading/resetting and perhaps Sans and wherever he came from.
    Since Sans' door also has the portal light effect underneath it that we only see in Deltarune Dark Worlds, and the fact that Gaster clearly has been corrupting certain figures in the Dark World with forbidden knowledge on the Angel's Heaven and the Roaring, and Gaster associated with the lines "darker, yet darker" and darkness in general it seems that Gaster has a massive influence on the Dark World or at least used to. Sans is probably connected to the Dark World in some way as well, as he has knowledge of resets and the portal ability for teleportation.
    Perhaps this "ANOTHER HIM" is the Gaster Sans is familiar with considering parts of Gaster were shattered across time and space (making it understandable as to why Gaster has knowledge over saving and loading since it's a type of that manipulation). It's also implied that Deltarune is another experiment of his. I wonder if the vessel will play a role in the reset of the world. Or if Gaster had any influence over the creation/integration of part of himself into the Dark World. Or who is interrupting him for that matter. Or if he has any connection to Seam and that Seam seems to know a lot more than they let on.
    That was a tangent ramble about thoughts on memory being of much more importance in Deltarune because of the greater influence Gaster seems to have.

      Thank you very much! I agree that memory definitely seems to be sizing up to be a key concept in DELTARUNE, not the least because of Gaster's fingerprints being all over the game. Concerning Sans "bleeding", I believe real blood would be black and white just like any color in Undertale's battle mode. As far as I remember, the only other things with color during this mode are energies (special attack, soul, etc...), and the red color represents determination. It's possible Sans drank Determination before fighting you, or something like that.

    • @sayyidassons9332
      @sayyidassons9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But that brings up the question of why? He, unlike other characters, never remembers anything from before the last reset, so if he wanted determination, he would at least get enough to remember what attacks don't work against the player, but no, he only can tell that you died and not where or when, and he only knows that much because he's great at reading peoples expression. If all of that was determination, then he would also have more defense because the amalgamations have infinite defense because of the determination. But no, he has 1 attack and 1 defense, and we know it's the determination that increases your defense because of Undyne the undying. All evidence points to it either being ketchup or paint.

    My interpretation is that after the war ended peacefully, integration of monsters and humans under the same society led to both races becoming more alike, and monsters just ceasing to use magic altogether. Maybe giving up magic was a concious decision so humans and monsters would live as equals.
    I don't think the magic actually disappeared, it was more so...forgotten. The war was so long ago that magic became a myth, just like how monsters themselves probably became a myth to the humans in the UT universe. No one knows how to use magic anymore.

    • @matti.8465
      @matti.8465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I do really like the idea of the Dark World basically being the concentrated magic of the world manifesting itself in the form of dark fountains, reshaping the areas it touches and creating brand new worlds.

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's definitely a valid interpretation! Like I said, my theory is basically a short in the dark, so some variant of the "Monsters Stopped Bothering With Magic" theory could absolutely be the case.

    • @sayyidassons9332
      @sayyidassons9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would not work because Toriel and asgore never forget anything, and because Kris, the only human that anyone around knows about, is interested in magic and is not exactly at peace with some of the monsters.

    • @sayyidassons9332
      @sayyidassons9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Besides, monsters can't have determination in large amounts, so humans and monsters are already equals with magic. And, as Jaru discussed, if monsters lived on the surface with higher technology, they would integrate it with their own magic, as alphys and Gaster do with their creations.

    • @sayyidassons9332

  • @jwoodsonmusic
    @jwoodsonmusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just replayed Chapter 1 with this theory in mind. The thing that jumps out to me most is Sean’s nihilism. Certain pieces of dialogue really stick out to me.
    “After all, it's not as if whatever happens, will matter in the end.
    Perhaps a little chaos might be fun.”
    “Anyhow, if you succeed, come back here and tell me! Good luck!!
    If you can call THIS luck... No, it's more like a curse...!”
    I think Seam will be a more important creature than we realize. He is the first character we ever see with connection to the secret bosses. He’s also a recurring character throughout chapters. Also, he’s our main source of information on Shadow Crystals. There is no way that Seam doesn’t play a far deeper role in this story.
    His use of the line “dark, yet darker” makes me think that HE has had a contact with Gaster as well. I think, like Ralsei, he knows far more than he lets on.
    My crazy little conspiracy theory is that Seam ALSO holds a piece of shadow crystal, and that Shadow Crystals act as sort of a “test” for the heroes. Could it be possible that Gaster is scattering these Shadow Crystals across chapters for the heroes, or maybe the player, to pick up?
    We know that whatever information Gaster is telling these 3 characters of Seam, Jevil, and Spamton, it drove them either to extreme nihilism or insanity. Perhaps it’s too much information to drop on someone at a single time. Perhaps the reason these crystals are shattered is so that the player is to be led along through the chapters, slowly uncovering one at a time the dark secret. Perhaps learning the dark, yet darker truth about the world in chunks is Gaster’s only hope to keep the heroes or even the player from having an extreme reaction like Jevil, Spamton, or Seam.
    Again, wild speculation, but what if all the collected Shadow Crystals is Gaster’s behind the scenes plan to help prevent the roaring, or the Angel’s heaven. Although obviously the ending would be the same no matter what, according to Toby.
    I do think the Crystals will serve an important purpose, and I do think Gaster is scattering these intentionally. And I do think that he’s trying to reveal the dark secret of Deltarune in chunks. What will the reveal mean or the crystals do if the ending is not affected by it? I’m not sure. We can only speculate.
    That’s just my crazy theory though.

    There's a pretty big difference between a time loop and real life - in real life, there's only one ending, but your actions aren't retroactively erased. If deltarune ends with a time loop I'll be super pissed because it means the entire game might as well have not happened at all

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's fair. I suppose it's more thematically true to real life than it is literally the same thing. Still, it would be pretty tragic to play through DELTARUNE, meet all these friends who you come to love, and then watch them get their minds erased and their lives undone. It's almost the opposite of the tragedy in UNDERTALE. In UNDERTALE, the tragedy was that players felt the need to check out Genocide, even though Flowey begs you to leave them be, because you want to see what it's like. You have the option, so you feel like you HAVE to, just like Sans said. By contrast, in DELTARUNE, no matter how much you may wish for a different outcome for your friends, you'll never get it.
      But, of course, that probably won't appeal to everyone.

    This is such a good theory. Everyone's talking about Gaster and assuming the Dark Worlds are there because of him but yeah, there was a literal fuckin *god* around somewhere. Judging by Rudy and Alvin's dialogue I'm assuming one chapter of the game is going to be in the church, I bet a massive lore bomb on the Angel and the very situation you describe is gonna be dropped then.
    I found what you said about Spamton's line about losing magic interesting. As he constantly projects onto Kris I assumed that line was referring to himself losing sanity after seeing whatever it was the Knight showed him. But yeah, could be in the final fight he's realised Kris is going against him so he throws that nugget at them.
    Also I like that final bit about Don't Forget. A very nice touch. Thanks for another excellent video, looking forward to the next one! Ralsei is a big fluffy bundle of *stuff* isn't he? It gonna be interesting....very very interesting! :D

    personally i think its very interesting that the bunny monster in town questions where skeletons come from. especially considering that the war never happened. people have speculate that most of the skeletons died in the war in Undertale.
    its clear thats not true. In deltarune sans and papyrus are still the only two skeletons, and i find it odd that the existence of a skeleton "type" of monster would be questioned. especially considering the wide variety of monsters there are.
    i know that this has nothing to do with this vid but i wanted to mention it.

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You bring up an excellent point! Based off Papyrus' death in UNDERTALE, it would seem like he is a monster, as he dies in pretty much the same way as they do, and yet Skeletons are intimately tied with the concept of humans, as humans have skeletons inside them. So, what's up with that?
      Actually, one thought that just occurred to me is this: Monsters are all pretty much anthropomorphized versions of real animals, right? Asgore is a Goat Monster, Gerson is a Turtle Monster, Undyne is a Fish Monster, and so on. Monsters are all alternate versions of real-life animals, so what if Skeletons are the monstrous version of Humans? What if they would technically qualify as Human Monsters? I don't know how that would work in the lore, but it certainly sounds interesting.

    The specifics of your theory about magic and the Angel don't strike me as particularly strong, but I think your extrapolations about the themes and concepts of Deltarune hit the nail on the head. I don't think I've seen a video or writeup that feels so spot-on about where the game is going with its secret bosses, "your choices don't matter", "don't forget", and having only one ending. It feels obvious after the way you've called it out.
    If and when the game's themes turn out the way you've described them, I think you can still feel proud even if it doesn't have a whole lot to do with magic or the Angel itself resetting reality.

      @@JaruJaruJ O k i know i just commented yesterday but i was thinking about this video earlier and wondered why toby chose the name deltarune in the first place. like obviously anagram of undertake but i don't think anyone's ever taken the time to look into the name? I know in chemistry the greek letter delta is used to imply a change, transformation or difference. Most of the definitions of runes involve magic, either directly calling them spells or just symbols representing magic. Put together I think it's incredibly likely the disappearance/change of magic will be at the center of the plot

    What if Deltarune is one of those "Created last Tuesday" scenarios, where its implied this world has been going on long before the player arrives, but in actuality it was only created when we boot up the game and all the characters have false memories of their entire lives

    • @JaruJaruJ
      @JaruJaruJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That could totally be the case! I would not put it past Toby Fox to have that be the terrible truth of this world.

And thank you for the comment! x)

    If it is true that The Angel will swoop in at the end and wipe all of our memories/progress, then it does something very interesting in a parallel to Undertale.
    In Undertale, we are able to use such a power to erase everything.
    In Deltarune, under this theory, we are now in the position of the ones being erased; a direct foil to Undertale.
    It'll make Undertale's True Reset hit much harder hehe

    53:20 HAH, you actually stated your shadow crystal theory in this video, well played

  • @UnoriginalJokester

    Personally, if this theory is correct, I would like it if the Angel was the Deltarune Gaster. After all, we have no idea how long ago it was that he met his fate in Undertale, which seems to be a long time ago considering the human souls likely fell after Gaster fell into his creation. If not, then you'd think Gaster would be the one to do the true lab experiments, not Alphys. So he very well could have been around during the war.
    Given Gaster's associations with sixes and the number 666, then the two Gasters would be direct opposites of each other. Deltarune Gaster being the Angel, and Undertale Gaster being the Devil. This in itself could explain why the Gaster we know is in Deltarune to begin with, he and Deltarune Gaster are opposing rivals on two sides of the same coin.
    It would also add to the pile of inevitabilities in both Undertale and Deltarune. Toriel and Asgore are always destined to split up, Undyne and Alphys always have a thing going on (same with Toriel and Sans,) Asriel will always die (given your Ralsei theory is correct,) and finally, Gaster will always achieve a level of power beyond the comprehension any other character, whether it be through absorbing human souls, or being shattered across time and space.
