Just thinking out loud.

sim racers use real master cylinder with bike reservoir and instead of it going into clutch there is pressure switch that senses how much pressure is in the system and that is then used to for the in game clutch. Maybe somebody else can explain it bit better but this is the basics how it works :D

Have you had an update on the forge built N54 ? i'm just across the ditch in NZ starting a similar build (same pistons and rods) and seeing if you had found the problem you came across a while back to see if it would be avoidable. I did actually dyno the car, but all the footage was taken with my laptop. The motor has lifted the head. But as the guy with the laptop also wants that car it’s still dormant. King story short, it needs an engine and gearbox build again now 😒
maybe try using the slave cylinder to push on and compress a spring? maybe experiment with different number and stiffness springs. possibly see if you can rig up something to see how much force it takes to compress the pressure plate fingers and go from there.

This car is getting cooler and cooler by the minute just a quick one hoping you could help trying to do a conversion in my car but my torque converter is touching the flywheel with no play do you know what gap I need between my flywheel and converter when the converter is pushed all the way into the box is it around 3mm?
So... what are whp losses with an 8HP vs DCT vs manual transmission? I was told the 8HP reduced WHP by ~40HP on a dyno when compared with S54 engine and manual transmission. But when you look at factory installed 0 to 60 times ie M240i etc. the 0 to 60 times are close...
Does it matter what vehicle you source the 8HP from? you can find loads of 8HP70's but they are all coming from different cars, trucks, and SUVs. Does it make a difference which vehicle it comes from?

After watching again what are you guys going to do for the gearing? I know being used sequentially allows for quick gear changes but for drifting being in the right gear is pretty important. For the 8hp I feel you will be changing gears quite often. Are you going bro be making longer gears or do you think 1-8 gears should have a gear long enough for the long corners but short enough for good transitions and slow corner stuff ?
The car runs the OEM M3 gearing (3.46) Which is heaps shorter than what a M240i would come with (2.81) So should be heaps zippier than a stock BMW with an 8HP, and the gears in 7th and 8th are enough to do basically warp speed, I think it'll work well, most likely be in 4th and 5th most of the time while drifting... Hopefully....😂

Ive been trying to get ahold of turbo lamik because I wanna get their tcu and harness, I already purchased an 8hp45, the ryuchip (installed it), and the shifter. Whats the best way to get ahold of them for an inquiry. Ps from the US
ha, i think we are emailing....... you didnt mention in your email about the car not having can. Regardless of the chassis, the DME will still have an active canbus. The controllers connect to the DME.
You do use a potenciometer 0-5v and it can be configured for bite point vs pedal travel on linear or progressive scaling. It’s pretty clever the way it can be set up on the lamik.
I’ll probably just try and go up to watch if it’s matsuri you’re talking about! I’d love to have a drive but I’m not entered. It’ll be awesome to see how the car is with the 8hp and not the manual!
Does the turbo lamik need a stock gear selector to work? Or can you integrate the dct sequential shifter straight to the Turbo Lamik? I recently did a shift knob change in my M140i and they dont use standard switches they use hall sensors. I didn’t expect that from the M3, that e46 is going to be launching 10x harder! Any chance you’ll also change the differential? Either to an auto gears, or stickshift ones.
It does have a built diff already to handle the manual clutch drops. I will double check the ratio. I think Dan said the 7500rpm rev limiter in 8th gear with the lamik will be around 295kmh

I was trying to get ratios to go upwards of 7k rpm. Any chance you know what differential would allow higher rpm’s for a stick shift 335i?
Why do you care about some one else’s car tho lol plus it’s just a trans and it’s being used sequentially with a clutch just like a manual like ever FD car. How many FD drivers have you seen with a standard 6 speed ?
It should operate as a sequential transmission. You know what all the pro drifters use. These 8hp’s a pretty special when you have the aftermarket controller on them.

Re Clutch pedal: Basically wire the clutch master directly to a pressure sensor, and map the bite point to wherever it feels right

You may know Bartosz Ostałowski - that drifter without both arms. He runs 8HP90 or 8HP95 with 1000hp+ LS engine in his E92.

Hmmmm that makes sense. Maybe something like a valve spring. We’ll see if we can rig up some test parts
Just a tip for the soldering, try using solder flux to get it to flow into the pads.
Flux was flowing like Niagara Falls don’t worry about that.

3mm is enough!
I actually don’t know what gap is needed. But you don’t want pressure on the input shaft. Did you get the converter sitting back over all the notches?

Zero energy loss on 8hp or DCT compared to a manual. Both the DCT and 8hp fully lock up.

Yes. They all have different casings, torque converters etc. so you need to make sure the one you go for will suit your application.

@@dthomas6184 The best trans to use is the N57 8hp70. Found in f series rear wheel drive, 6 cylinder diesel BMWs.

As far as i am aware the entire case is different. Havent checked output shafts. Also the trans cooler ports are different. And the converter.

You don’t need a stock shifter. However they are nice for the ability to quickly change between modes.
