A Spiritual Journey: Hajj Pilgrims Returning Home by Boeing 747

- Join me on a “once-a-lifetime” experience to fly with Hajj pilgrims back home on Stage 2 of Hajj Flight.
I started my journey flying on an “empty” Boeing 747-400 from Fujairah, UAE to Madinah, Saudi Arabia. This is the beginning of stage 2 of Hajj Flight which takes pilgrims back to their home country after Hajj. It was a “surreal” experience to have the entire Boeing 747 to myself on the ferry flight.
After arrival at Madinah, Garuda Indonesia Hajj crew joined our flight and preparation went underway. The temperature in Madinah was too hot for the fully loaded 747 to take off on time. We have to wait for the temperature to cool down. The boarding took over an hour as most passengers were elderly pilgrims who needed assistance. There was a sea of incoming passengers; tired but happy to go home peacefully.
We eventually departed 2 hours behind the schedule once the temperature cooled down. Our destination is Makassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia. During the flight, many Hajj pilgrims changed into their celebration costumes and it is unique to the Makassar culture. Several onboard prayers were also performed. The Hajj tour leader explained what they achieved in their pilgrimage. The pilgrim has a profound feeling of having undergone a life-transforming spiritual experience.
Flying with all the pilgrims on their journey home was an absolute honor. A meaningful flight filled with great humanity and joyous moments! It is truly beyond words to describe the feeling when the pilgrims arrived at home.
Christian here, this was an unbelievably beautiful video. I'm from rural farmer America, but I spent a lot of my post high school pre career traveling and being exposed to other cultures. The most beauty and human kindness I've ever felt and seen was Muslim majority countries and eastern European countries. I just wish more America opened their eyes and get to see we share this big Earth, we all have beautiful cultures to share here.
I just wanted to stop by and say Thank you for this beautiful comment!! We need more people like you in the world!!!! ALOHA from Maui
Yes. We need to open our eyes, open our mind that we can live coexist.
Amen!! Beautifully said. Your wish is also my wish. More Americans need to open their eyes and experience other cultures to truly understand our differences but also our similarities.
But the world will turn on us Christians soon. The Bible has prophesied this. All those nice people will turn on us.
not only America but the whole world must open their eyes.
Finally I found out who you are sam chui. I was in the plane, I see you filming and taking photos. And people ask who you are. I have no clue. Thank you for your video. This is my memorable flight ever.
Selamat datang kembali ke Tanah Air. Semoga jadi ki Haji/Hajjah Mabrur
Ma shaa Allah

I think this Hajj series is the best you have ever made. Both videos were informative, touching, and emotional.
Thank you for taking us with you on this journey!❤
strongly agree
Agree..and ive subscribed sam after soooo long
These hajj flights are amazing, they show how dedicated and compassionate airlines are to carry out these beautiful religious traditions
I'm literally in love with Indonesian people, just amazing to watch their love and dedication towards the pilgrims, may ALLAH (SWT) bless them all immensely ❤❤❤❤❤
That's Southeast Asia for ya
Indonesian is so nice and warm
Allahumma Barek
May Allah grant every Muslim the invitation to complete Hajj.

It's really a mix feeling seeing this series as an Indonesian who work in Saudi. Happy, sad, laugh and tears all at the same time watching these pilgrims from my hometown in Makassar with their custom and culture. For us Moslems from Makassar and South Sulawesi in general, going for hajj is like one of our main goals in life. People may save money for years just going for Hajj. You may find many of them living in a very modest house, but they manage to pay for the hajj fee. The queue for Hajj in South Sulawesi is among the longest one in Indonesia. You need to wait for up to 47 years if you register this year in 2024. So, no wonder they might celebrate it as if they act like a champ coming back from the battle with a victory once they land back home.
I really appreciate this Sam for showcasing what other people dont see.
Sam, we, the Indonesian people, would like to express our gratitude to you and the entire crew responsible for overseeing the Hajj pilgrimage flight and documenting the journey. We sincerely hope that the joy of performing Hajj will continue to inspire and uplift the spirits of the pilgrims throughout their lives. May you and all the crew members remain in excellent health and find lasting happiness in your lives.
The queen of the skies must be proud to take these pilgrims to Makkah ❤
Tearsdrop from my eyes watched this video. May ALLAH blessed and allowed me and my wife together go to hajj . Amiin Yaa ALLAH 🤲

Sam Chui, let me express a big salute to the flight attendants and the flight crew.🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 They are truly compassionate and caring individuals. I have never seen a cabin crew take care of their passengers like the Indonesia Garuda group does. They are doing a magnificent job. Hats off to them! May Allah bless them and accept their good deeds.🙏🏻
Amazing, and what makes it more amazing when you know that just 100 years ago Pilgrims from Indonesia (and other Muslim countries in Asia-Pacific region) took the same trip by sea. At least 1 month voyage, and many didn't either make it to Mekaha or the trip back home.
Travel by air is for sure, in my opinion, is the most important invention in the human history.
Totally agree. There is even footage on TH-cam of pilgrims arriving by boat. But also the reception was totally different. People being transported by camels to their “hotels”. What a time that must have been, but also what a time to be alive.
Fun fact the one who discovered aviation was a Muslim his name was Abbas ibn Firnas but he wasn't successful in his invention but it was a study case that helped build up by the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci and he discovered air balloons since he saw that fire lifts the flying machine then the industrial era came by the year was 1903 Wright brothers after years of design were successful in creating the airplane aviation but at first was for military uses and wasn't until the after ww1 to ww2 that the airplane was used for commercial purposes and the 1950s the leap became higher until today.
This is very touching, Hope I can get my parents for hajj next year. Ameen
Aameen
Now Sam that was another fantastic video, not only for the aviation content. The compassion and love shown towards the pilgrims is amazing, what a wonderful international crew.
Glad you enjoyed it
indeed.. it was not only about aviation. this is a spirit to find the greatest achievement in their life.
May God accept their performance of Hajj and may we all experience this kind of happiness ❤
Now curiosity got answer on how these ladies got ready with their blink blink attire before landed in Makasar. One of the unique way to cherish their return from hajj. I as Indonesian also amaze on how they prepared them shelves for such a joy and celebrate their return from hajj. Thanks for the flight attendant whom very helpful to them. And a big thanks to you Sam to get this footage for us to see how wonderful hajj flight especially this Makasar Group. Glad you enjoy it and let us also enjoy it..
This is wonderful. It is so heartwarming to witness airlines respecting religious traditions and aiding those who practice their traditions. The people waiting to board look so excited. Like I said, wonderful. I never thought about it being too hot to take off!! The elderly were treated with much respect and care. I am awed by the care and kindness. Happiness rules the day!
The human component of the 2 Hajj videos are a fantastic layer to your channel. Fantastic work!
Glad you like them!
Glad you like them! That is exactly why I wanted to come back after the first hajj flight. I was keen to be with them on their home coming journey again.
@@SamChui It was lovely to watch. Something we don't see every day. Thank you, Sam!
I'm Indonesian, I really cried when I saw this video, as if I felt what they feel when they make the Hajj, I miss you, O holy city, call me and my family, O Allah 🥹🥹🥹
I absolutely adore the distinctive fashion of the Hajj pilgrims from the city of Makassar and the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia! The intricate golden embroidery and the dazzling bling make their attire truly stand out. It’s beautiful, unique, and one-of-a-kind. Love those sparkling details! 💎✨
Well said!
@@SamChui Thanks for covering the Indonesian Hajj flights, Sam! It's incredible to see all the effort behind these operations-massive numbers of passengers, giant planes, and enormous responsibilities. Truly impressive!
Thank you Sam. Wat a wonderful, amazing coverage Hajj flight. The care from the crew was outstanding.
Bismillah semoga dimudahkan
bangga pamer aurat
I have a big crush on that pilot I must say....the crew are so caring and patient. Such beautiful footage.
When you set out to make an aviation video and end up with a beautiful, moving documentary about humanity! What a world we live in!
The woman ground controller has the clearest voice of them all. Very easy to understand.
actually it was a male controller
@@ibnufa4027 😂
@@ibnufa4027 after listening again I believe you are correct.
i believe you meant the cabin attendant? on 21:12
@@itzDFOM no meant the airport ground controller who I now know was a man but sounded like a woman at first.
Ooh Garuda Indonesia still have a Boeing 747 for Hajj 😊😊 Very nice 😊😊
A decade ago in 2014, the saddest part of Philippine Airlines is when the Boeing 747, once hailed as the Queen of the Skies was officially retired after 40 Years which is unforgettable memories for PAL who used the Jumbo Jet from 1979 to 2014 and today it was replaced with Boeing 777 😊😊
This Year, Philippines and Indonesia turns 75 Years of Friendship and Aviation is the best thing when Garuda and PAL entered the codeshare agreement in aviation making the most friendly codeshare airlines in Asia Pacific and as for myself, I dream to ride Garuda Indonesia and Philippine Airlines someday because Indonesia is my dream country, a place of friendship and beautiful culture so with all my heart, I hope to see you in Indonesia soon 😊😊
Greetings from Calamba City, Laguna in the Philippines 🇵🇭💕🇮🇩
No, that's charter plane. Garuda Indonesia doesn't operate 747 for regular flight anymore
@@masbayuputra5901 Oh yeah Garuda Indonesia still used 747 as a charter one like Hajj planes, while PAL 747 are no longer used as regular flights since 2014 😊😊
Highest appreciation for you Sam, you kept your promise to cover a complete full Haj Flight of our Indonesian people...a million thanks 🙏❤❤❤

Finally ..I've been waiting for this video after I watched the first Hajj video ...thank you Sam
My pleasure! One of my most memorable flight!
I was waiting for this return flight from Hajj. So glad all the pilgrims survived the heat and returned home safely. Learnt a lot about the temperature and weight regulation for the aircraft in order to take off safely and why it was not allowed to cruise higher than 29,000 ft. Very interesting.
Mashallah Hajj mumbarak to all of you.
May Allah (S.W..T) accept your Hajj. AMEEN
What a story of the lifetime religious journey, thank you Sam for covering both departure and return special hajj flights
The ladies look so beautiful after they changed and put makeup on. I’m so happy for they.
Masha allah bro, This is Indonesia, Biggest muslim country in the word with humble people🙏🏻
pakistan is the biggest now
Pakistan right now being the biggest muslim population fyi, but for ages Indonesia hold the title😊
@@apakabarhariini1991 agree, second now.
@@apakabarhariini1991yeah and Nigeria and Bangladesh will soon take the second spot too, they have an insanely high birthrate per woman
One of Sam's informative video, but this one at a different level as it tells a lot! Firstly, the 747 is still the Queen of the Skies with such a beauty and might. She may be 'old' but no aircraft compares to her. Secondly, it tells about the complex operation flying thousands of pilgrims during the hajj season, this flight being one of them. Finally, the viewers come to know that there are people who are faithful to their religion and who cherished this once in a life time pilgrimage. Thank you Sam and the crew of the flight.
This all was amazing; Hajj is lifetime achievements for these brothers and sisters from Indonesia. They wait many years for this journey. They all were very organized and peaceful. Seeing them coming and going back was beautiful experience. May Allah accept their holy journey Ameem.
Thanks Sam for showing this all
Thank you, Sam. Words can't express how I felt after watching the first and now this part of the Pilgrims' Journey. The emotions you conveyed resonated deeply with me, and likely with everyone who witnessed this remarkable journey. You did an outstanding job capturing this important event for Muslims and creating these exceptional episodes. Thank you once again.
Im from indonesi too (based on jakarta) but never see how other indonesian people from another regions came back from hajj. Thanks to this channel i can see tradition of makassar people😊 because in jakarta, people who came back from hajj emm.. just like a normal things like someone came back from abroad👍
As Sam noted, it's very moving to see the physical toll that this year's Hajj took on pilgrims, especially the elderly. A real reminder of how much Muslims are willing to sacrifice to complete their Hajj.
This was so sweet. Love seeing people live their dreams and accomplish their goals. Thanks for documenting this occasion, Sam. Very, very special.
Congratulations Sam - This was incredibly moving. It was lovely to see the sheer joy on the pilgrims faces as they complete their Hajj. Both videos were amazing and I enjoyed watching them very much. Peace and love to all!
Really incredible the effort the airline made to accommodate these folks. Touched my heart it did.
In Indonesia the pilgrim had to have waited years (7-15 years) before getting into the quota for Hajj. So the happiness of completing Hajj is very genuine. Thank you for capturing this moment Sam. I never thought you can pull this off. Truly amazing video.
35 tahun kalau daftar sekarang dari lombok
It's bring me back a lot of memories when i went there for the first Time in âge of 26 years old and when we come back home you become spécial because you have come from a unique journey doing the fifth pillars of islam and peoples call you "hadj" i hop to return one days inchallah. Thanks you Sam for the sharing it's a unique expérience in life but i hope many Muslims will do it when their are still young like i did alhamdoulilah.
Came back from Hajj 2 weeks ago, amazing journey and already missed the 2 Haram cities. Beautiful video by the way.

Dear Sam, thank you so much for sharing this video with the world. It was great too see the Pelgrim flying for their Hajj. Thank you, thank you thank you.❤
All due respect for Indonesian people who are very polite.
Just remembered the Haji flight that crashed in Hatton Sri Lanka. My cousin lives next to the mountain and she can show the place on the mountain that the plane crashed from her house. This route goes over Sri Lanka and RIP for all those who died in that crash.

hi Sam, thank you for the video of his hajj trip. We as Indonesians are happy with your video documentation. And as Muslims, we hope that your video can open the eyes of the world more if Indonesians, Muslims in Indonesia and Muslims around the world are friendly people. So, don't believe 100% in the news in the media that sometimes reports negative things about Muslims. It's nice to see your videos. Hopefully you feel at home on vacation in Indonesia.
Sam is having a good time being with all those Makassars lovely and bubbly hajjahs😂.. Masya Allah.
This is one of the most beautiful part after completing their Hajj and they are returning to their family
That landing on makassar was so smooth
Among your videos Sam, This is my favorite..exposing yourself to other cultures and seeing those beautiful costumes are truly one of a kind. More of these pls.
I got goosebumps and was touched when I saw your video about the journey home from the Hajj.
What an interesting video, Sam. These beautiful people went through a lot on their pilgrimage, especially with the extreme heat. I have to say that I was teary eyed at the end of this video. Thank you for sharing this incredible religious journey!
What an amazing video of a journey every Muslim yearns to make once in their lifetime. The love showed by the crew to their passengers and also by the Indonesian ground staff was beautiful.
I really admire the zeal of the elderly to perform Hajj in such unbelievably high temperature.
Thanks Sam for such an immersive videos for both legs 👍
P.S 5:55 The crew forgot to arm the ground spoilers before landing and did it manually
I hope I can go to Haj in the future before I passed away

That landing was so smooth.! 😮😮(Specially after that kind of take off.!)
And special thanks to that Parson, who clarified about the culture, not part of religion.!
Best stream yet Sam. No promotion of the airline or product. Did a Hajj for Malaysian in 1982 and it was pretty much the same. Well done

Such a great experience to watch a Hajj Flight! Beautiful people and an amazing 747. I can't imagine evacuating that flight in under 90 seconds.✈️🙉
About 241 thousands Indonesian performing hajj this year...The waiting list for regular hajj in Jakarta Indonesia is about 55 years...in my home, East Java about 20-50 years...Thats why majority of the Indonesian hajj usually elderly... May we'll be performing Hajj one day...Thank u Mr Sam Chui n all the good people involving the Hajj operational...Keep up the good works..
