Mariah's has sung with several different tones over the course of her career, never sounding completely the same. The raw recording is almost identical to the televised version.
@@Bahia82 Vocal Airbrushing? This is like 2000-2003... and music tech has made leaps and bounds since then. Her dubbing this performance meant she came in and sang it over again (something very common back then) or they cut it with the rehearsal performance (something still common today)
The true impressiveness in this performance is in the rich lowssss. Suchhh an underrated part of her voice. She was definitely trying to showcase that and this is the right song to cover for this. Some of those lows are sometimes even more impressive than the higher notes/belts

Omg when you talk much more about the background vocals i get sooooo excited! I’ve always loooved Mariah’s background vocals they’re very intricate and the harmonies are crowded in a very good way, lmao excuse my poor musical vocabulary 🤣🤣🤣
She deliberately crafts them to support her when she's live AND most importantly, to me, they tend to offer a varied assortment of surprises and delicate inferences on the phase being sung. Love her c VOCAL direction of them too.

Hi Erika. I love that you are reacting to this Mariah performance. It has such a slow tempo with a lot of depth to the lyrics. These live performances are way more interesting than regular music videos. Mariah is "The Diva" of the ages.
Hi Lily!! You’re right there’s so much depth to these lyrics, especially with all the embellishments she adds. Super highlighted by the slow tempo. I agree that these performances are way more interesting than regular music videos :) thanks for this lovely comment!!
Sounds very glitter era, so beautifully interpreted, the beauty of this performance is that she did not sing it over Stevie who is a master of all times, she respected his art with her own talent. So Perfect!
Hey honey, I can tell this will be a great video!!! You are an awesome human being and content creator!! I’m out with family at the moment, but I’ll watch when I can! ILY❤❤❤

I loved this reaction. As I have loved every reaction you've posted. I've also spent hours and hours watching other vocalists's reactions and I find yours more engaging. You are very charismatic and definitely know your stuff.
I really feel as though you should have listened to the original version of this song before doing this video I think it might give a little bit of context as to why she is singing it this way she does it very close to and true to Stevie’s version and I am pretty sure it’s in the same key I also think listening to a little bit longer and to the song and may be having the words present helps just some unsolicited feedback I am not a vocal coach but I am a singer.
Great review. Def not dubbed. If it’s a prerecord she most certainly is still singing live even if the iteration we hear is not that vocal. Thank u so much!!! Awesome review love it
OMG you did it! I was so curious to see what you thought about the lower key/register in this song. I'm totally with you on the vibrato, I don't tend to like it as much when people use it all the time. There is literally so much to talk about when it comes to her voice - she uses so many different techniques. I love how she decided to do so many turns for the ONE AND ONLY Stevie Wonder - who loves improvisation, runs, and turns himself. The original version of this song is gorgeous, and I think what she did was very tasteful. I think if she was performing this song in a different context, she may not have went "all out" on the turns. I would be so nervous singing a Stevie Wonder song in front of him. Her backups are always ON POINT, but yes usually too loud. Thanks for doing this breakdown - yours are always the best. and OMG you with those whistle notes!!!! Love it! This performance was dubbed, the undubbed version is online and you can find it. She went slightly flat in one of the runs (totally fair) and her voice didn't sound quite as relaxed as the dubbed but it is pretty much the same. She was definitely going through a difficult vocal period during this time and she really started to lose the live performance confidence that she previously enjoyed.
YES!! and yes. I always tell my students, everything in singing becomes annoying if you use it ALL the time ... straight tone, belting, vibrato, runs... it's important to be tasteful and selective of where you place it! But yes I would be so so nervous sining in front of stevie. I can't imagine. SO happy you enjoyed this!!! Thanks for all the information I didn't know & thank you for coming back for me yet again!!

I think only 1-2 notes are remade probably because they could not salvage the real sound. the raw is almost identical but the volume of the mic is very low.
Ugh. Thank you for saying that about dubbing and lipsyncing. Like the amount of stress and hardwork she puts, as we know how perfectionist she is, for her songwriting and singing vocals in the studio, you barely don't have energy anymore to tour or have a live performance. Plus considering how vocally demanding her melodies are and her condition having nodules. It's a vocal suicide so I don't know why people always wants her to prove herself when she already cemented herself as a vocalist. Maybe people expect her to be like other singers who only waits for someone to give her a song to sing but that's not who she is. She's an artist for goodness sake and she's very passionate and dedicated to her craft. She even said before she only gets to sleep 3 hours a night. People doesn't understand how time consuming songwriting is from scratch to finish. 🤷🏻
Yes this video is the dubbed version, there’s an undubbed version but some of the vocals are unclear in some parts (duh it’s undubbed lol). But both versions are great nonetheless
Hi Erika! I learned a lot of music stuff from you. Will you please react to Mariah Carey’s Fantasy live at the Tokyo Dome 1996. I just want to learn about something in that particular live perfomance. It was great!
Not dubbed, this was a live televised performance as a tribute to Stevie Wonder, this is his song. It was a 1 time thing and she would never disrespect Stevie Wonder that way, he is an idol to her
Awesome analysis as always✨️💕 Here's another great Morisette performance to react to! Her cover of Mariah Carey's "Fly Like a Bird". Btw she has said she is been working on a themed album right now with a twist and many collaborations and there are rumours it is / might be a jazz themed album !
This performance was most likely not dubbed. There's a pre-production version out there. They did master the vocal and clean up some timing and mix issues, but overall this was a raw performance. I think she sang this song low because it's super difficult, especially by the time you get to the high parts, and she wanted to do some classic "Mariah runs" to make it her own. That's easier low. It gave her a chance to show off her low notes while sounding strong and healthy at the climax, doing some runs, and picking a key for her whistle to sound good has to be factored in as well.
The thing with dubbing, is it’s the same performance, the levels have just been equalised so that’s why you get consistent volume despite the pulling away of the mic. Dubbing a performance does give the artist an opportunity to redo sections but I think Mariah mainly uses it to balance out the sound, and of course she only has the luxury of dubbing a performance when a performance is televised after the time it was performed. Also there is a non dubbed version of the performance on YT I just feel sometimes people get lipped and dubbed mixed up. Dubbing to me is just a higher quality that is applied to the actual performance later on.
Just another note that I want to point out is that her doctor said that her throat have never been able to close due to her nodules, thus the airy buttery sound we hear every time. So what might be a healthy way to sing for others is not something we can apply to her(?). She's a natural wonder. 🤪
@Erika Torres it was awesome to meet and hang out with her but that sounded horrible, and she was trying to make up for her loss in range due to stress and anxiety and depression. But Stevie loves all music

Yes. Dubbed. You can find the live version on you tube. They added something to the lower notes to make them hear better, but apart from that the rest is really the same. Great performance.
I don't believe it's dubbed/lip synched. Portugal and Spain are so close, I bet if you research you'd find some Portuguese! :-) I love Brazilian music from decades past, not today's. Huge shout out from Portugal! Please react to ENDLESS LOVE by Mariah and Luther Vandross and also to some of Mariah's first albums. Have you done an Album reaction yet? all the best! Love ur videos keep it up! xoxoxoxo
@@TRAVELZILLA Wow, what a lovely family background. I didn't know that Torres was common in Portugal! I looove Portuguese and have a few brazilian songs in my rep that I do in Portuguese. Wow you used to be a singer!!! You met Mariah and Whitney that is UNBELIEVEABLE. I did not know her father was Venezuelan!!! i'll take a look at your suggestions, I have not done an album reaction yet! I am not sure how to go about it quite honestly, but so happy you're enjoying the videos :) thank you for your comments
@@erikatorresmusic_ ur welcome Erika! Keep it up! When you do an album reaction, please try to react to the first 2 albums, not that many people have reacted to those 2 albums yet. Another suggestion if I may, please try to react to Mariah's b side tracks that no one reviews. Fans would love that! There's got to be a way, So cold, Now that I know, there is a song with insane lyrics and riffs called OUTSIDE, you could react to the raw vocals of it. Also, since you're a jazz singer...you must listen to THE WIND and also the Jazz-ish improvs she does on the ANYTIME YOU NEED A FRIEND (REMIX) she goes Ella Fitzgerald 90s version with the improvisations! Also since xmas is coming...react to Mariah singing with her mum live ( she used to be an opera singer) there is also a song called ONE CHILD (xmas song) she sang live once in front of Maxwell and Annie Lennox who shared the stage with her. Anyway...just sayin' xoxox all the best! keep it up! In Brazil there is a famous beach in the south called Praia de Torres check it out on google! lol have a nice one!

I wanted to enjoy the analysis but it's too much pause.
Too much pause.. not even 5 seconds .. omg..
You talk alot when the q sing. Uffff
Hi,Please, react to Dimash Qudaibergen, who many voice teachers and singers called the best singer in the world. His vocal range is over seven octaves and he can really sing any genre he wants. He started singing and piano lessons when he was five (now he is 27) and he has said he still practice three hours in a day.I'm pretty sure you gonna love him. Please try this: Sinful Passion th-cam.com/video/W9FlDMCo8LU/w-d-xo.html
Try not to stop that much, especially in the end, kinda ruined that end clímax!
