@Bard Erland for Mezzo-soprano? Is that being realistic or just asking a little too much? Maybe after her voice has fully matured. Who knows what her limits will be. Thought she did pretty good for only being 13 during this performance.
@Bard Erland Why should she sing an aria? Classical singing does not fit everybody, particularly when there is so much else that is really becoming of your voice. However, with her agile coloratura, I suspect her to have a good aptitude for baroque music. If you listen to her Whitney Houston cover, you can clearly hear that she has the potential to reach very high notes, considering she can go so low. But it also becomes clear that she has technical restraints in reaching those notes. She even gets hoarse, but no wonder considering the range of the song. She can fix this, but she is so young and her instrument needs to develop further. I am so pleased she has stayed away from big operatic repertoire. It gives me the creeps every time a child tries to belt out a song they are not ready for. I am not trying to scoff the talent, but there are just some things that takes time, and big dramatic pieces are not meant for children. But what she is doing at an incredibly young age seems so relaxed and natural. I dont think I have ever heard a child singer sing a song with such authenticity and ease. Listen to little big shots version of fly me to the moon for instance. It is like the instrument and the song emerges into a higher entity. Opposed to her hardcore fans, I am not trying to convince everyone that she sounds great all the time. Some things are more fitting than other things, and that whole attitude is ridiculous in the first place. It is like demanding a top athlete to take gold all the time, it just does not work that way. I salute her in her boldness and experimenting with different repertoire and styles to find herself and her voice!
@@ragnarkisten I completely agree. She has limitation, I heard her Whitney cover before they processed it. She was really pushing her limits which is great in my mind. Her belting has improved drastically since then. After observing her vast repertoire, she seems very comfortable with the freedom her jazzy style lends her. though some classic training would definitely help especially with her longer runs such 04:36 where she transitions from head voice to chest voice.
@Bard Erland Decent and beautiful is in the eye of the beholder, dont you think? I regard jazz equally, or even more so, beautiful to classical singing. There are certain aspects of classical training that can be very healthy for every singer. I agree with you there. Particularly in the capacity of projecting a big sound without coming across forced. However, my experience tells me that there are so many singer that have ruined their voice in pursuing an operatic career. The ability to sing powerful without strain is extremely difficult for most singers. And also when you use a microphone, you dont need that extreme type of projection. I also regard the breathy tone she makes, healthy. I am more concerned about her belting notes. In this performance, even more so than BR, I find the projection quite healthy really. If you compare her to another singer, Connie Talbot, A. has a much more healthy rendition. That does not mean that I dont appreciate Talbots talent or voice, but it is more strained than Angelinas.
Surprise, surprise! Angelina is an artist, she does all the arrangements and yes, she plays gittar, piano, flute and violin author of stoties speaks 4-5 languages paints all under the tutorage of her grandmother who is a highly asteemed iranian artist/ painter. The patterns on her clothes are a copy. Bleesed with a captivating tone but hours of craft practice. P.S. loves the company of her sister. And I'm sure you know the story of 'the barefeet. Age aside, what a gift we have.
Thanks for your reaction! She is only 17 years old today and from Norway. She signed with the label Republic Records just 14 years old, I think we can safely leave the promotion to Republic Record. Marketing will start when her full album is released later this year. There's only one EP with 6 songs she's released from RR now, and they haven't started marketing until the full album is released!. Republic Records know 100% what they are doing? I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life (17). FIFA song - She performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones. She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list... She has over 250 songs on TH-cam with cover songs and many originals. Angelina also plays piano and guitar. The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a "bare belly plastic artist" who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. She already eats most female vocalists for breakfast, and the label Republic Records and the rest of the music industry know that too! Angelina Jordan has nothing to prove. When she sometimes belts is it because the fits in the performances. She sings to us only she can!
I love some of the details you picked up on there. The way she sang "woods" I noticed the first time I heard this, but nobody in all the reactions has mentioned it. That little vibrato she puts on certain things is just master level. I also like how you equated her sing to playing her voice like an instrument. If you go back and listen to her bohemian, you will hear that the belt she does after "never been born at all" mimicks the guitar riff at that spot in the original song. It's the little things like that that make her the best singer I have ever listened to. There's just so much detail in everything she sings. I look forward to more Angelina reaction/analysis from you :)
@Norwegian Lobster "How many ways are there to sing woods?" Is that a philosophical question? ...like how many angels fit on the head of a pin? Someone similar to the renowned way Billie Holiday imitated/synced with instrumentation. A unique ability...especially when done as well as they do/did.
@@MrJohnTeacher Makes sense, because Billie Holiday is one of Angelina's biggest influences... here she is at 7 nailing Billie Holiday... th-cam.com/video/rI6ZhRk86Hs/w-d-xo.html
So you noticed that too, how her voice imitates Brian's great guitar riff in BoRhap. That requires not only superb skill, but some remarkable knowledge and awareness of the original. The way she used that is quite astonishing, and I noticed it right off.
Have you noticed how Angelina Jordan carries the music instead of it carrying her. As I have stated many times about this genius, it is not just her voice, it is her total being that is so hypnotic.
Caleb, I appreciate your comparison of Angelina's voice to an instrument when she embellishes her lyrics. Being an old-school jazz musician, I hold Ella Fitzgerald as the gold standard for embellishments, riffs, runs, whatever you want to call them. She would not only emulate the improvisation of the great instrumentalists of her day, she created her own style that set her apart from everyone else. She always stayed within the changes of the music and never did too much or too little, just the right amount. So many of today's singers do "vocal gymnastics" without really understanding the musicality that is required to sing riffs. Through training and sheer innate ability, Angelina "gets it" and we, her audience, are immensely fortunate to listen to her artistry!
It was a masterpiece despite of circumstances. An artist that is a legend will always find the way to create beautiful things whatever the odds are. And Angelina is such one.
You said it right, that her voice is like a guitarist doing a solo. I always say her voice is like an orchestra with different sections. Those beautiful riffs & runs was just the melisma section showing off for the American audience. Her vibrato section is equally amazing, along with the rasp, vocal fry & every other vocal ornament section you can think of. That's why she is best with minimal backing of a soft acoustic guitar or piano that keeps time while she uses that orchestral voice, almost a capella, to give you the chills. Her voice is so complex & you ain't seen nothin yet! You have so many more voices to hear & I can't wait to see your reactions. I also can't wait to see what she does tonight on the AGT Grand Finale. Her cover of Adele's "A Million Years Ago" that she did at 12 yo is stunning & makes a good reaction.
Angelina is a Star!!!!! Thank you for your awesome reaction to Angelina and I look forward to your next reaction to her. God Bless from Lakewood, Washington USA
I could listen to Angelina Jordan songs specially her Bohemian Rhapsody woooooowwwwwww 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 a big hand of applause from me to you Angelina J. We love you hear in Australia
I believe thats the message she is portraying to Simon with this song choice, and to rebut what she was made to say in her first AGT intro about wanting to meet Simon for 10 years because he's amazing.
listen to her elvis how great tou art she has deep voice too adjusts to each artist she is gift from GOD PRAY HER INNOCENSE REMAINS HER BOOK LEARNED ABT NO SHOES WOW
But watch Screaming' Jay Hawkins' performance from 1956 first. His photo is on the candle she holds up at the beginning of her performance. She was 9 years old and did the arrangement also. For me, it is her most impressive performance. SJH: th-cam.com/video/a1AE_bCoPSI/w-d-xo.html and Angelina Jordan: th-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for reacting to Angelina's Wonderful AGT Champions performance. Most has been said in tje comment section. I hope you will continue to react to her soon. Angelina is unique and has the ability to touch our souls again and again. 😇
Thanks for reacting to Angelina! A lot of people like to go back and take a look at her performances on Norways Got Talent at 7 years old. Phenomenal vocal and emotional maturity! If you don't consider yourself one of the Angels yet, I have no doubt that you soon will.
angelina plays violin, guitar, flute and piano. heard she is now playing sax and another instrument.some of her classics she has been singing for ten years and in her rehearsals she is always exploring different sounds and changes to them. great anaLYSIS
She used Sara Bareilles version of the song as a basis. Angelina add as always her own twist to it without overdoing anything. She has her own original song "Shield" and "A song for a", written for Angelina by the russian composer Nico Cartosio over a classic poem, but there are also so much more from her that will amaze you and show what she are capable to do. This was a great reaction.
No she did not. If you check them out side by side you will hear that where Sara sings with a high volum, Angelina just whisper and the opposite. So the arrangement is not the same, even if the both have taken the tempo down compared to the original.
I really love your reviews of Angelina because I feel like you are being objective and coming from the perspective and a vocalist. I am a musician but have no vocal experience at all. My musical background gives me an appreciation for not just Angelina's technical abilities, but her phrasing, placement, choices, dynamics and of course her remarkable soulful feeling. I watched Angelina go through Norway's Got Talent in real-time and I have been a huge fan ever since - watching every posting > 10 times. You asked for recommendations for what to listen to next, I would suggest you try Million Years Ago, Born To Die, and then I've Got Nothing. Most of these were recorded when she was 12, yup 12! I promise you will be left shaking your head in disbelief!
Please try 'I am still holding out for you'. I consider this her best work. I love every second of it. Her voice is hauntingly mesmerizing in that video, more than any other covers. And that said a lot. Trust me with this one.
Caleb Coles Music You must be aware that she have said that she will never sing this song again - because of the suicide aspect of the song. She was asked by the Autor of the song to record it, she did, but withdraw it when she got aware of this. When that is said, she does a phenomenal job, and I am sure this song will live on TH-cam regardless. Hope you just have this in mind when you react.
First I dicovered Diana Ankudinova and Dimash Kudaibergen. Excellent singers, great talent. There souls are born on Broadway and in Las Vegas. Angelina Jordans soul was born in Chicago and New Orleans. This "jazzy" touch in her voice and her incredible abilty to make every cover her own song makes her unique.
It is sad that she had 2 minutes to show her vocal abilities and did not have more time to really be the singer she is. Listen to the words, she is telling them she does not need them & she does not!!! Thank you for your great reaction as always!
I searched her name on your channel and I see you have not reacted to her black and white video of "I Put a Spell on You" that one is a must, just to see the power she can have if she wants it. She is 9 in this video.
Great reaction.. I am just blown away by here arranging skills and mindset... great ears... and great taste... a musician, not just a singer!!....You have to check out her video of "I put a spell on you" ... she was 9 at the time and sounds like a 45 year old blues / jazz singer.. absolutely amazing
I love your comments/analysis! This is a difficult, complicated song but she nailed it and, although she patterned it to Sara Bareilles' version, still made it her own. It's really amazing how, at 13, she is able to do the things that she does with her voice and convey the song's emotions.
As I watch you I can see your passion & love for music. Your facial expressions demonstrate such a genuine appreciation. I really enjoy listening to you and yes, this girl is phenomenal.
Her rendition of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' I Put a Spell On You is beyond anything I believed a 9 year old should be able to do. Also something very different than the Angelina performances you've reacted to so far, it's very jazzy.
No doubt about it she’s a genius and I mean that in all sincerity she made this her own She does all of the songs. She’s slowed this way down, and a lot of negative space, I just don’t know how she can do all of that, she’s just freaking incredible! She is a real gift, the real deal. No joke, really, I think she’s one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. She can do it all and with more feeling and emotion than anyone else. And another thing she’s just 14 years old, imagine 10 years from now.
Thanks a billion - you gave me the most professional reaction to Angelina Jordan... and I have seen a lot reactions - I hope you explore her videos and react to all of them :-D
Angelina if you saw this comment pls remember what i want to said ... 1 thing if you want to be a legend , Dont chase the money for what you do , the money will come to you freely .. sing from your heart forever , smash all infront of you that disturb you , keep people remember you till the END of your career !! You turn 14 you still young , you can be a legend singer 1 day ... guarantee!! Pls forget the money dont chase it, money will harm you if keep in mind , just keep singing with heart 1 day you will succeed you will be rich , give all people around the world a heart that you have❤️🥰 ...
It is like everything that requires learning the fundamentals. You can get proficient by practice, but the real artists have that special something. They see and hear the world differently. Their imagination can go to places the rest of us can't. Heck we couldn't even see there was a direction to go, let alone follow it to be able create a new approach to a problem or challenge. I am making a mess out of this, so I'm going to stop and quit while I'm behind. If any of you can make sense out of this then you know what I am trying to say. Maybe that's my point. There are most of us that see things a certain way and that is it. Then there are those who see a different way to go or do something, but do not have the talent to do anything with the new information. Then there are those who see the way but can do something with it. Those are the artists and whether it is Music, Painting, Literature, or the guy who can take a vehicle apart and rebuild it into a show vehicle. Angelina is like that. She hears a song, runs it through that wonderful brain of hers and out comes this. Sure she has had influences, who doesn't, but she can do something with that information to do something new and fresh. The song has her commitment and soul wrapped up in it, so when she sings it we believe her. We believe the story she is telling us. Did I make it better or worse, who knows, I'm one of those from the first rung of this ladder. So if it helps great, if not, then welcome to my world that's what goes on in my brain, all day long. Sheesh!!
I m like you David, even though i m not a musician. I want to know the secret, but i ll never know it since it is a secret. To be a true vocal artist, i always said that musicians hear sounds that we cannot hear. Angelina hears sounds and words that i do not hear. She pronounces words differently as an artist. She creates proper pronounciations for the lyrics she did not create: in This is a Man s World, she has her own diction, different than that of James Brown himself! Anyway, i agree totally with you when you say that true artists see and hear the world diffently. So true and so key to understand and appreciate them, and to let ourselves be loved by them!
@@susannorth138 Would you agree with me, Susan, that gift and talent are not the same source of greatness. The gift, you receive as is to give it back. The talent, you work hard to exploit it. The part of Angelina the true vocal artist that belongs to genius would be her gift; the part of Angelina the best jazz, blues and soul in the world that belongs to greatness would be her amazing talent.
DC - I'm scared now - I understand exactly what you said - an art teacher once told me to describe a rainbow to a blind person - took me a second to get her message - describing Angelina's singing to a deaf person (or even a tone-deaf one) - there's no standard of comparison - like the blind men with the elephant. Did that clear things up?
Thank you. I enjoyed your reaction on Angelina Jordan. I hope to hear more reactions from you about Angelina. She’s a real music talent, amazing at how she places the notes and own each song. Please react on her 2 original songs wherein she wrote the texts herself: Shield and What is life.
What I hear in this performance by Angelina is a very thought provoking interpretation that blends the singing styles of three great singers, that suffered life long battles with addiction and depression: Amy Winehouse, Judy Garland, and Etta James. Taking that into consideration the words of the song have actually changed in their meaning changing the song into a dark and bluesy lament. Simply brilliant!. Take a listen to the song again with that meaning in mind and let us know what you think.
It definitely does have the feeling. Almost a sad, slightly wistful & nostalgic feeling. Hopefully she never goes down the path of those singers in that sense :)
I love your reactions! Angelina is one of my faves the others being Dimash and Diana Ankudinova. Feels weird being in my mid 30's where most of my life I have favored 80's rock and my 3 favorite singers are from Norway Kazakhstan and Russia and none of them really do rock. I would suggest the next Angelina video be her cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins version of I Put A Spell On You, its phenomenal and she was 9 when it was recorded.
I like your analysis of this and of other vocalists. It’s great to hear informed comments from another singer. I agree with what you said, but I’d like to add something from a non-musician. Your explanation of her vocal techniques is great, but what makes me such a fan of Angelina and keeps me watching her videos over and over is her voice. It’s so rich, deep, and sensual that it’s mesmerizing. I don’t want the audience to applaud because I don’t want to miss any part of her performance. You’ve only heard her as a jazz singer here and in Bohemian Rhapsody. I’d suggest her cover of Adele’s “A Million Years Ago” for a completely different, beautiful sound. She commits to the lyrics like no one else. And I’m sure you’ll get requests to watch her black and white video of “I Put a Spell on You” from when she was 9 or 10. It’s a sort of novelty in her catalog of performances, but just staggering. If you didn’t see it, you wouldn’t believe a child could sing like this-channeling an era long gone.
Hi Coach! I love your reaction and analysis!. I don't have any favorite female singer before until i discovered Angelina Jordan at this AGT competition. I love her style and tasteful melismas. She's such a great singer and story teller. Hope you'll react also to my favorite male singer Daryl Ong. Like Angelina, he's also a musical genious doing vocal acrobatics with his riffs and runs.please react to his cover of Thinking Outloud or his live at Wish Bus singing Don't Know What to Say. So excited to hear your intelligent commentaries. Many vocal coach reactors are admiring him and saying they are learning a lot from him. Well i guess, you'll like him too for sure. 🙂

Angelina will be singing Someone I Loved tonight on AGT Champions and it will be spectacular!
i think this is the best reaction for Angelina's sings
Angelina a is such a beautiful old soul, inside the body of a beautiful young lady 💗
I watch your reaction to Angelina singing yellow brick road over and over again. Neither of you get old!!
Dear Caleb, just google for Angelina Jordan Shield, it is an original song, written by herself and it is jaw-dropping.
I believe thats the message she is portraying to Simon with this song choice, and to rebut what she was made to say in her first AGT intro about wanting to meet Simon for 10 years because he's amazing.
thank you, very good comments
listen to her elvis how great tou art she has deep voice too adjusts to each artist she is gift from GOD PRAY HER INNOCENSE REMAINS HER BOOK LEARNED ABT NO SHOES WOW
It's the toned-down and sustained smoothness at the end that I think is the most fine thing in this.
This singer is one of the greatest voices at her age ..
🙂👍👍👍👍...said it before: ...love her voice and her magical tone!
Idk how vocal artist describe her voice but i just close my eyes and feel her voice inside me lol
Next should be I Put A Spell On You (b/w version) when she was 9. Over 6 million views. Be prepared to lift your jaw off the floor. ;-)
But watch Screaming' Jay Hawkins' performance from 1956 first. His photo is on the candle she holds up at the beginning of her performance. She was 9 years old and did the arrangement also. For me, it is her most impressive performance. SJH: th-cam.com/video/a1AE_bCoPSI/w-d-xo.html and Angelina Jordan: th-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/w-d-xo.html
Allways great to listen to your reaction and your analysis and comments. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I loved the smile you had while watching her. I could see how much you like her.
Your analysis is exceptional and so warmhearted. This young girl is a a rocket ship all eyes should be focused on. God keep her safe.
Thanks for a great reaction
Haha! True :)
Musical medicare! Love it!
In the next life I want to come back as Angelina's vocal cords, that's all I gotta say...Great reaction my friend..Cheers..
Thank you for reacting to Angelina's Wonderful AGT Champions performance. Most has been said in tje comment section. I hope you will continue to react to her soon. Angelina is unique and has the ability to touch our souls again and again. 😇
like your comments and your expertise make me smile as i have no music background but i agree in loving Angelinas music
Thanks for reacting to Angelina! A lot of people like to go back and take a look at her performances on Norways Got Talent at 7 years old. Phenomenal vocal and emotional maturity! If you don't consider yourself one of the Angels yet, I have no doubt that you soon will.
154 commenters can't be wrong - we love her. The velvet Valkyrie forever!
angelina plays violin, guitar, flute and piano. heard she is now playing sax and another instrument.some of her classics she has been singing for ten years and in her rehearsals she is always exploring different sounds and changes to them. great anaLYSIS
Thanks, I look forward to hearing some of her own songs :)
No she did not. If you check them out side by side you will hear that where Sara sings with a high volum, Angelina just whisper and the opposite. So the arrangement is not the same, even if the both have taken the tempo down compared to the original.
@@hegesophieborgersen5868 that's because he said "as a basis"
Oh, yeah - I forgot to list - I'm Still HoldingOut For You - so good it's almost unbelievable that a 12 y.o. could sing like this.
Perfection!
After I "found" this performance I went straight to Caleb reacts!! Just knew what I'd see on ur face while u listen to it.
This girl have a wonderful sence to make a song to her own... she could even make Itsy Bitsy Spider to her own!
She has such a beautiful voice...so unique and natural. Love her take on songs.
Please try 'I am still holding out for you'. I consider this her best work. I love every second of it. Her voice is hauntingly mesmerizing in that video, more than any other covers. And that said a lot. Trust me with this one.
I'll check it out :)
Excellent
singers, great talent. There souls are born on Broadway and in Las
Vegas. Angelina Jordans soul was born in Chicago and New Orleans. This
"jazzy" touch in her voice and her incredible abilty to make every cover
her own song makes her unique.
It is sad that she had 2 minutes to show her vocal abilities and did not have more time to really be the singer she is. Listen to the words, she is telling them she does not need them
& she does not!!!
Thank you for your great reaction as always!
Just like I thought, she did but make the Top 5 on AGT. Luckily for her she does not need them.
I love how much you love other singers. You’re really cool.
Angelina is an excellent and cool singer, she does the arrangement of the song herself
It is really impressive to have that maturity at that age. I was nowhere near her league at that age.
Love your reaction. She is amazing
Thank you. Yes she is :)
As I watch you I can see your passion & love for music. Your facial expressions demonstrate such a genuine appreciation. I really enjoy listening to you and yes, this girl is phenomenal.
Reactions helpful to understanding AJ's gift
Her rendition of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' I Put a Spell On You is beyond anything I believed a 9 year old should be able to do. Also something very different than the Angelina performances you've reacted to so far, it's very jazzy.
I enjoy your technical insights. Great reaction.
Thank you :)
Angelina, you're my favorite singer ❤❤❤❤the first is Witney Houston and after are you❤❤❤love you🤗🤗🤗 I'm without words, you are amazing!
Love your reactions love angelina
Wow,gave me gooseys
She take us with her voice to a place where you get lost and feel good about that ❤️
Thank you for reacting/ analyzing this performance :)
Caleb, really like your Angelina reactions. She is phenomenal.
She definitely is :)
One of her own songs is Shield. one of her best vocals.
Jacques Picotte it is not a secret, it is talent. That practice cannot makes a person a Genius.
Yeah, definitely has the unique thing to her that adds her imprint onto the world :)
Did that clear things up?
what a skillfull pianist!!!
Thank you. I enjoyed your reaction on Angelina Jordan. I hope to hear more reactions from you about Angelina. She’s a real music talent, amazing at how she places the notes and own each song. Please react on her 2 original songs wherein she wrote the texts herself: Shield and What is life.
I look forward to reacting to them in the future :)
Late to the party as usual but loved your reaction to this song and to Angelina. Jordan! Such an amazing gift she has💗
Bravo. Angelina has garnered millions of fans worldwide over the last five or six weeks.
She really has :) I'm glad I found her and look forward to listening to her own music.
HM - don't forget Billie Holliday's tragic life.
The high, powerful not on "road" is the way Sara Bareilles has done it for several years. Very nice.
Thanks. I do look forward to getting into more of her stuff in the future and hearing more of her own songs also :)
He is pro as u can see all instruments in front of him
You should definitely react to her singing Bang Bang. I believe it was her finale song on Norway’s got talent.
semi final and yes a great cover I remember when the Sonny and Cher original came out.
