If you check out the comparison video done with Adele's song, 'A Million Years Ago' , where they are cast singing opposite each other on many of the lines, you may find, at least in my opinion, that Angelina's performance in this instance is far more entertaining and heartfelt than Adele herself. Thank you for reacting to Angelina again and for a great reaction video. She was 12 years old in this performance which she did on a Norwegian/swedish talk show called" Skavlan". Her song Shield has already been covered in "The Voice"- Norway song competition. (You can find the cover of Angelina's song "Shield" here: th-cam.com/video/bdUaGvdPLuE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/oLr9PBwg8X4/w-d-xo.html So young and already been covered by other music artists , that is impressive right?
She sang this at age 12. Still trying to wrap my head around that one. This song would have been old when I was a kid - too old for me, at the time. Petula Clark was walking all over me with her boots, and I was counting the bruises, I had no time for the old-fashioned ballads like this one. Jazz was for older folks. Then rock took off. Full speed ahead! (Until we hit disco and I threw up.) My tastes have broadened somewhat; disco cured me of following the herd, and since, I have often dipped into genres I once avoided. No credit to me; discredit, rather, for being so slow to appreciate just how much variety there is in meritorious music. A pro like you studied, caught on early, understood. Back to Angelina. Nope, there aren't any amazing range demonstrations here. There's vocal agility, but none for its own sake, it's just a tool for adding weight to her words. But Angelina also does something with moving her vocals to the back of her head that changes the tone. It's brief, but she uses this technique, whatever it is, to change her vowel sounds and her tone when she releases them. She doesn't just 'sing' the words, she subjects them to a kind of rolling bite that enhances the words she wants to emphasize. Bah, bad metaphor. Point is, she isn't singing her vowels in the usual way, straight on from one mouth shape for each word, just a distance between consonants to be endured. It deepens the performance, adds character. Makes me want to hear more. Nothing she's doing to vowels is brand-new. But she's doing it her way. It's distinctive. Since she's putting so much work into shaping her vowels, we receive the message that she cares about what she's saying. She's focused. Intense. Paying attention to every bit of the performance. Angelina's lyrics would be valued had they been written by an adult pro. The refrain is ear-catching. Her singing is spot-on accurate in pitch and volume. She chooses the right points for little agile flips and turns. She tells the story. It all works really well. I still can't stand the Bee Gees' whiny, tortoise-beat songs, but I have opened up to what Angelina brings, and I'm liking it. Somewhere on TH-cam, there's a lead singer with a group that's rescuing and reinventing old songs from the 20s through the 50s, ballads mostly. They're good - a statement I would never have let escape my lips for old ballads when I was young. I found them when they created the strangest and most ironic cover I've ever heard. Let's see if I can... yeah, here it is. Robyn Adele Anderson's channel. The song she covered: Kid Rock's white power anthem 'Bawitdaba.' Kid Rock's version goes like this: th-cam.com/video/Ienv1rBZFyc/w-d-xo.html I'll understand if you don't listen to all of it. It's vile, racist, repetitive, unimaginative. There's no trace of virtuosity. Robyn's cover defangs and transforms it: th-cam.com/video/q-t3FXjHfsU/w-d-xo.html Is there a better way to mock Kid Rock? I don't think so! If there is room in your soul for those old ballads, Robyn's channel can help you to discover them. But Robyn is pretty faithful to the style of those eras in music. I'm bringing this up mainly by way of contrasting what Angelina, subtly, is doing. You alluded to it in your video. She's singing an old-fashioned, but newly-crafted, ballad... but her singing incorporates many modern touches. Angelina breathes fresh life into the genre. This is art, not mere imitation.
Yeah definitely. It is always an interesting journey navigating the whole 'making it' space, picking a sound etc. But I think a good artist shines through even despite genre. As you said, even the way she sings in the pop sphere definitely has a unique weight to it.
@@CalebColesMusic Speaking of different genre, I almost fell of my chair the first time I heard her do pop/country. Rumours have it Mark Ronson sent her the original backing track of "Nothing breaks like a heart" th-cam.com/video/fJ9eu7qBiwQ/w-d-xo.html - by Ronson/Cyrus, after they worked together on some project. Incredibly playful and fun, and so very different from many of the other songs when she keeps pounding on our souls. Well worth a listen...
hi caleb and everyone, just a fortnight that i know that "this phenomenon" of music exists and i spend my evenings listening and listening to it all over again. firstly it is not a singer, a singer does not have as much comfort in as much style of music. she is jazz.soul, blues, rock, pop, rnb, classical maybe rap? and other. for me it is an instrument, I explain myself only one instrument can be as good in all these registers is not it. example a "stradivarius" for the violin, "gibson" or other for the guitars etc etc ... with her voice and her soul more many hours of work also should not be denied it takes you into her musical world. music, everything in it is music, big kisses to you and to each one in particular. (from the south of France) bye bye salut caleb et tout le monde, juste quinze jours que je sais que "CE phénomène" de la musique existe et je passe mes soirées à écouter et réecouter toutes ses reprises. premièrement ce n'est pas une chanteuse, une chanteuse ne possède pas autant de confort dans autant de style de music.elle est jazz.soul, blues, rock, pop, rnb, classique peut-etre rap? et autre.pour moi elle est un instrument,je m'explique seul un instrument peut être aussi bon dans tous ces registre n'est ce pas. exemple un "stradivarius" pour le violon,"gibson" ou autre pour les guitares etc etc...avec sa voix et son ame plus beaucoup d'heures de travail aussi faut pas le nier elle vous transporte dans son monde musical.elle est musique ,tout en elle est musique, gros bisous à vous et à chaque un en particulier.(du sud de la france) bye bye
Thanks for coming back to some more Angelina. You are 6 songs in now, so only about 120 more to hear. This is the latest (released) song she has written, but as others have said, she is working on an album of originals. Her first released original "What is Life" was recorded when she was 11, but she said she spent some years writing it. I assume if she has been writing since that young, she probably has a notebook full of lyrics and ideas. (oh... and she became the youngest published author in Norway at just 9 years old when she wrote a book about why she sings barefoot) Maybe at some point you could react to her first original "What is Life". This acoustic version at 12 is the best one: th-cam.com/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/w-d-xo.html
So good to see you back with another Angelina reaction. This, her latest original so far, is a great song. I even love the others of hers as well, they are "What is life" and "Oslo". Those was even on her 2018 album "It`s Magic", and they have the more jazzy feeling. You should take a listen, and I would not mind to see your reaction as well. They are great songs from the 11 year old Angelina. She says she is doing at lot of writing these days, as all her performances has been stopped from the current situation in the world. "What Is Life" th-cam.com/video/crngnoq0WLc/w-d-xo.html "Oslo" th-cam.com/video/6PsVu4iNmX0/w-d-xo.html Both of these links giving you the Audio from her "It`s Magic" album.
In an interview Angelina mentioned that she drew inspiration for this songs musicality from older James Bond films. She loves those movies and inspired her to write her own. The interviewer mentioned how much it reminded him of a James Bond theme song and she confirmed she drew inspiration from that. Very cool song, i dig it! Be fantastic if a producer paid her to use it for a future film and then called the bond movie Shield too boot. Its incredible a pre teen can write such a catchy soulful "commercialized" song, never mind her talent to execute singing it.
I really love your reactions, Caleb. The depth of musical knowledge and the experience you bring to them mean that I learn a lot. And like everyone else, I find Angelina extraordinary. Am hoping you’ll do a reaction to her latest song - 7th Heaven.
This young girl is the best singer I have ever watched and heard. She is classic, and very beautiful. She is very humble and amazing. Angelina Jordan voice really make me addicted.. she is so talented. Her great composure is what impresses me the most at such young age, 13 years old..she can handle any stage. She is so grown up with no fake smiles, she is original in her gesture, in her voice in her soul. She hypnotized us with her's beautiful velvet voice.
I'm glad you came back to comment on Angelina, Caleb and in particular with an original. This is a very nice reaction, for an exceptional song, for the music, for the lyrics, however well balanced and to finish because it was made by a 12 year old girl. The topic of the texts is certainly not what every twelve year old thinks, but instead it is natural for her to understand that she is still very young, even if unique, and therefore needs a shield, between her and the world, which can easily ruin her or destroy it, just as happened to many talented young artists, including those he admires, such as Avicii, Amy, Whitney. This is why I believe that, after all, the texts refer to her mother and perhaps also to her grandmother, they are the ones who defend her, especially from the dangers of the entertainment industry.
WELL pleased with your reaction Caleb. I've kept up with ANGELINA sence 2014 at the age of 7.I feel Angelina Jordan is WORLD CLASS 🤗 O your not so bad your SELF
Thank you for this reaction to Angelina Jordan. She did a great job on the lyrics and this was to her mother for protecting her so she can have a almost normal childhood growing up but heard she working on an album at this moment but are a little delayed because of the virus around the world.
She’s so good. I’ve been listening to her since her Norway audition and she just keeps getting better. Last year I discovered this singer named Colter Wall and I’ve been hooked since. If you like authentic original sound and great story-telling, I recommend you reacting to Colter singing Kate McCannon brewery sessions and maybe try Bald Butte too during brewery sessions as well.
You should also check out What is Life! A song she wrote when she was around 10-11. Awesome stuff, particularly the stripped down version with only guitar and piano!
Angelina Jordan (born Angelina Jordan Astar; 10 January 2006) is a Norwegian child singer whose audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at the age of seven, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday, became a viral video online, and led to worldwide press coverage.[1][2] She went on to win the competition (at eight) with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". Since then she has worked to raise millions of dollars on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world. She always performs barefoot, after befriending a young shoeless girl while traveling when she was six years old. Jordan wrote a book about the experience and became the youngest published author in Norway.
4:30 We must agree with you on this. She doesn't use her music to show off, she gives to the song what the song requires. This is the difference between a fame seeker's singer and a true artist.
Caleb, it is so useful to hear opinions from a performing artist, who is able to "pull back the curtain" somewhat, for those of us not in the industry. It really enhances our understanding of her music, and music in general!
This song was written with her mother in mind and the place mom has with Angelina. If you have ever seen Angelina's mom she is a beautiful woman with longish blonde hair and a beautiful complexion. I can only imagine how I would feel if I were her mom, who is actually sitting about 10-15 feet away. A lot of people have mentioned her with singing and writing a James Bond song. She has two more original one she wrote when she was 7-9 called 'What Is Life' and the other is a about coming home after being away, it is simply called, 'Oslo'. She wrote that on the plane trip home from the states. Considering her age when she wrote the songs they're actually quite good. As with all the songs she sings, it is Angelina's voice and the special sauce that is in her voice that sells the songs. I think in the next 3-5 years she is going to blow up. She is starting to spend a little more time on her career after the AGT Champions appearance. She will get better at the writing thing of that I have no doubt. I would love to see her do a duet with Willie Nelson on 'Crazy' since he wrote it and she has sung it on at least three occasions, I think they would have a blast, and so would we. Get on that Caleb you know peeps don't you? We have to get this done before Willie ain't here no more.
Thanks for your honest review & reaction. She wrote Shield at 11 & performed it at 12 . Here's 2 more she wrote. She also wrote around 11-12 yrs old. “What is life” th-cam.com/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/w-d-xo.html with Dylan Meek on keyboards & she also wrote “Oslo:”th-cam.com/video/6PsVu4iNmX0/w-d-xo.html "A million years ago" by Adele th-cam.com/video/QHLtZQ3sIwE/w-d-xo.html Angie's rendition. 12 yrs old.
The song Windisch and the song is called wicked ways she does her own rendition but it’s very deep you happen to hear that she does it on a piano and it’ played And I get a singleton I’m not the expert but it’s like this One tone to it it’s really emotional it’s very deep very deep
Quincy Jones invited her to sing at his 85th bd celebration. He's allegedly said she's the biggest talent since M.J. Fortunately for ANGELina she has her family protecting her, her "SHIELD" and makes sure she's not signed off to some big shot label, so they can choose what to say yes or no to at any given time. Thnx for yet another great reACTion/analyses
Awesome comments and insights. I'm sure AJ would be really proud to get this kind of praise from an industry peer like yourself. Good luck in your own endeavours Caleb, and thanks for keeping an skillful eye on one of the most exiting new artists out there.
"Song For A" from Nico Cartosio's album "Melting". The composers description: "Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns^ and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance."
As much as you tell us how great Angelina is, now it’s been two months, are you doing well? These are crazy times so please stay healthy. I look forward to your next Angelina Jordan song. You liked SHIELD, an original, have you heard OSLO? Another of her originals?
Based on my own reactions to her three original songs, Angelina's best are, in that order: What Is Life (Angelina, the philosopher and moralist), Oslo (Angelina singing the new national anthem of Norway) and Shield (Angelina, the oldest daughter of Sara). As a dazzling child songwriter, Angelina appears highly educated, sounds like a mature individual and transcends her genres of music. With WHAT IS LIFE, it is fascinating to think that a child can decide at 11 years old (or so) to compose a song in which, like in a collage as a technique of art creation, she will assemble three members of her family and herself to express musically her artistic philosophical and poetical definition of life through painted images of her personal life. The song ends with a spiritual advice given on a standard jazzy tone: love life, the good and bad. Her musical project is astounding considering its subject matter and the quality of her jazz composition. With OSLO, Angelina, again, surprises by her precocious maturity. As the story of the song, being absent from Norway six months each year because her father works abroad, actually in LA, while commuting, she writes a song in which the home that she misses so much becomes more than her friends and her house, but the whole country, symbolized by Oslo, its capital! She gives to the music of the song the breath, the depth and the solemnity of an hymn, of a national anthem. Finally, with SHIELD, published when she was 12, she uses the implied biblical images, first, of the pillar of fire, giver of light (Exodus, 13), and, second, of the surrounding shield (Genesis 15), to invoke the help, support and protection of her mother and to ask her for forgiveness, which is quite amazing that such pleading could come from the mouth of a child. The structure of these three songs, although traditional, reveals an impressive knowledge of music and is enhanced by an astonishing early maturity of mind, spirit and soul. I wonder, Caleb, what would be your rating compare to mine.
I can’t believe she was 12 years old it’s unreal I know she has a new video out called wicked ways if you haven’t seen that I don’t know if she’s going through something because she seems really emotional but she is that way on all of hers but I’m waiting for a CD is she’s only 14
I absolutely love this song and love her vocals (obviously). The only critique I have is I wanted an "oOooOooo" run or something after the last "fire" of the chorus 🙂🎶💕✌🏼
Great comments, Caleb! There was an interview immediately prior to this video. You might find some of her comments interesting. They switch to English at 0:38. th-cam.com/video/97hjWg4ToRQ/w-d-xo.html Not a reaction request.
@@CalebColesMusic ..and maybe that world is inhabited by those "old souls" whose soulfulness she draws from...? Her interpretation, the emotion she expresses, how does that come from someone her age?
Angelina is going to become the next Jazz sensation if she chooses to . This song reminds me of a cross-over between Adele and Norah Jones. Caleb is it cold 'down under' ?
It has been freezing and pouring with rain for the last week down here! Yeah lots of opportunities coming her way, the trick will be choosing a good path!
My understanding about Angelina was that she backed out of AGT Champions because she was not willing to sign with Simon if she won. So she either decided to stop or Simon decided to let her go. Perhaps he didn't want to build her up more just to see her go with someone else. However, I don't know that Angelina needs to sign with someone .. at least now. She's been working hard to get where she is and someone else telling her what she should do may not be what she wants. She is also well off .. (I saw somewhere that she was worth $54 million.) She is smart and hugely talented. I am sure glad she's around so we can enjoy her journey.
I hope someone can confirm this, I understand that since appearing on Champions, Angelina has grown to be about 6 ft tall!? The internet still list her as 5’4” so that would be quiet a “growth spurt”!
Please be my shield against all that´s blue Love me and lead and I´ll carry through Keep me from danger don´t leave me too soon Forgive me for all that I am Shadows they whisper stare at my soul Misled are those who march all alone Keep me from strangers without good intent Forgive me for all that I am You are my fire when I can’t see you’re the one - watching over me …
Obviously a great singer. But don't overlook her ability to write not only beautiful but meaningful lyrics. My favorited line from Shield; "Forgive me for all that I am". To think that and all the rest is from the mind of a 12 year old is very special. She has also changed the lyrics of some covers to make them age-appropriate. She wrote Oslo on a plane trip back to Norway. It just goes on and on with this multi-talented young lady, and it was all there from a very early age. Here is a link to the lyrics for Shield. www.google.com/search?q=lyrics+to+shield&source
Great reaction and comments. It would be great if you reacted to one of her other originals that she wrote both the words and melody for. It is called "What is Life", written when she was 12 and performed in an acoustical setting with just a keyboard and acoustic guitar in this video: th-cam.com/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/w-d-xo.html. It has a great jazz feel to it.
I wouldnt be surprised if she is not only current, but will create a new current style like Adele and Lana del Rey had created just more jazzy and bluesy...
You, as songwriter may want to ponder this Norwegian singer-songwriter called Aurora. She is placed in the landscape of Kate Bush (writing wuthering heights aged 18) and Björk. She inspired Billy Ellish to start music with her youtube video "Runaway" that she wrote aged 12. She also wrote "Lucky" when she was 9 - and when you listen to the lyrics and composition of that one - it is more disturbing than Angelina - since we all think that children should be innocent - not yet capable of this level of emotional depth and expression. I put a link here - this her performing the song "through the eyes of a child" that she wrote aged 17(?) with a pretty big cover band to embrace her use of harmonics th-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/w-d-xo.html And here is her newest song going full Vera Lynn on the presence th-cam.com/video/7YDkrJaiCrw/w-d-xo.html

I think this is her performance on Skavlan. It is well worth watching. It includes a bit of impromptu a capella "Diamonds are Forever"
I'm Brazilian and I really like her reactions to Angelina I see that captures the essence of the music she does, my favorite of the 3 authors is Oslo.
This performance is an excellent application for the next James Bond movie
It does have that vibe
Hey Caleb I’m and Australian fan of Angelina and you, as usual great reaction and analysis, this song is dedicated to her mother (her shield)

The song she covered: Kid Rock's white power anthem 'Bawitdaba.' Kid Rock's version goes like this:
th-cam.com/video/Ienv1rBZFyc/w-d-xo.html
I'll understand if you don't listen to all of it. It's vile, racist, repetitive, unimaginative. There's no trace of virtuosity.
Robyn's cover defangs and transforms it:
th-cam.com/video/q-t3FXjHfsU/w-d-xo.html
Is there a better way to mock Kid Rock?
@@CalebColesMusic I'm not sure who's responsible but it seems political comments can only come from one side here.
Such a catchy song and melody! Love that performance! 🙂👍
Me too!
@@CalebColesMusic 🙂....btw. that studio place you are sitting in looks cool!
hi caleb and everyone, just a fortnight that i know that "this phenomenon" of music exists and i spend my evenings listening and listening to it all over again. firstly it is not a singer, a singer does not have as much comfort in as much style of music. she is jazz.soul, blues, rock, pop, rnb, classical maybe rap? and other. for me it is an instrument, I explain myself only one instrument can be as good in all these registers is not it. example a "stradivarius" for the violin, "gibson" or other for the guitars etc etc ... with her voice and her soul more many hours of work also should not be denied it takes you into her musical world. music, everything in it is music, big kisses to you and to each one in particular. (from the south of France) bye bye
Thanks, I'll check it out! Looking forward to her album when it comes out :)
I love the smooth transition from the bridge to the chorus!
You're a pro, Caleb, it shows in the way you make your observations...my respect!

Very pretty song! Thanks for your reaction, always a plasure. Greets from Austria!
Most anticipated debut album by a Norwegian artist ever 🇳🇴
Such a great song, no way I could have written anything close to this at age 12!
This song should be in a Bond Movie with Crane and should be called "What happens next after the one how shielded me is gone"
More Angelina Jordan! Great reactions!
she is superstar, she give me chills, that could be a James Bodn song
Adoro a voz da Angelina Jordan! Ela é uma cantora diferenciada.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Song for her Grandma 😍
You should also check out What is Life! A song she wrote when she was around 10-11. Awesome stuff, particularly the stripped down version with only guitar and piano!

Thanks, I'll do that!
She is going to be a singer, songwriter, model???, fashion designer, philanthropist... so many paths for her talent and beauty...
It really enhances our understanding of her music, and music in general!
wow, just imagine where Angelina takes us next..
Goood reaction, first time ive heard this song, i liked it and your reaction 😊😊😊🌏
I never have liked Mass but I like that and her.
Great reaction with informative comments. cool dark setup you got there.
Thanks!
Thanks for your honest review & reaction. She wrote Shield at 11 & performed it at 12 .
Here's 2 more she wrote.
She also wrote around 11-12 yrs old. “What is life” th-cam.com/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/w-d-xo.html with Dylan Meek on keyboards & she also wrote “Oslo:”th-cam.com/video/6PsVu4iNmX0/w-d-xo.html

You’re beautiful 😄 Thanks for another great Angelina reaction with clever and insightful comments 🙏
Thanks !! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
The song Windisch and the song is called wicked ways she does her own rendition but it’s very deep you happen to hear that she does it on a piano and it’ played And I get a singleton I’m not the expert but it’s like this One tone to it it’s really emotional it’s very deep very deep
Great reaction .. I really enjoyed the song ..someone made the comments that it should be used in a James Bond movie ..I agree
Thanks, really appreciate it!
"Song For A" from Nico Cartosio's album "Melting".
The composers description:
"Song for A is the only song on the album.
I can’t believe she was 12 years old it’s unreal I know she has a new video out called wicked ways if you haven’t seen that I don’t know if she’s going through something because she seems really emotional but she is that way on all of hers but I’m waiting for a CD is she’s only 14
You need to check out her song “What is Life” 😉
I absolutely love this song and love her vocals (obviously).
Wow. Her description of going to another world when singing is so interesting!
@@CalebColesMusic ..and maybe that world is inhabited by those "old souls" whose soulfulness she draws from...? Her interpretation, the emotion she expresses, how does that come from someone her age?
This would be a great intro song for a James Bond movie.

I really enjoyed this reaction. Thank you Caleb. Have you reacted to Angelina singing a cover of Whitney Houston?
Love youre reactions🇳🇴❤️😊
En nydelig selvlaget låt som ho fremfører med den kjente Angelina måten vi kjenne ...Terningkast 6

Angelina Jordan Wrote the song what is life the first original composition

I put a link here - this her performing the song "through the eyes of a child" that she wrote aged 17(?) with a pretty big cover band to embrace her use of harmonics th-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/w-d-xo.html
