My parents found a tiny orphan kitten down in Pasadena, TX. According to my dad it wasn’t doing well n barely eating so they took it to a vet who explained due to its young age the mother will lick their butt to stimulate a bowel movement. Apparently it wasn’t doing well because it was full of poop n if the baby was unable to go it would die. My mom looked horrified n sad “well it’s gonna die cuz I’m not doing that”. The vet laughed n explained she can dampen a wash cloth in warm water to gently massage the rectum. 😂
Did this to a rescue kitten my brother brought back while I was staying with them. Dampen soft cloth and gently wipe to stimulate pooping, sorted. Mock attack, chirp/chatting and crumpled paper balls for hunting, sorted. That tiny Calico learned and grew, and became a neighborhood cat with multiple temporary owners. Been almost 10 years, and every so often, Tracy shows up with a different collar.

I had a cat that had anal gland issues. I had to take her into the vet once a month so they could express her anal glands. The vet and I finally decided to have her anal glands removed because they were giving her so much trouble. There are some risks with the surgery, but we were lucky that didn't happen. She was very happy she didn't have to go to the vet every month. I have never met another cat owner who had a cat with anal gland issues. I guess I won the cat anal gland lottery. lol!
I had a cat with that problem and the resolution was to add pumpkin puree to her diet - 2 x daily with meals.

A friend of mine has a cat with anal gland issues. I had only heard of it in dogs before she told me about it.
My cat has that problem, also. The vet put her on Royal Canin gastrointestinal formula. She has far fewer ruptures or swelling.

One potential problem cats can develop is colon cancer, as was the case with our cat Neutron last year. The problem began manifesting itself after he went to the litter box. He would plop himself down on the floor and immediately start licking his butt or scooting his butt across the floor - neither of which are particularly unusual with cats. Eventually, though, we began noticing that he would excrete a small amount of mucous with a very small amount of blood after going to the litter box. This prompted us to take him to the veteranarian. He tested negative for parasites and worms. We had him x-rayed which revealed the underlying problem. His colon was surrounded by a tumor that was constricting it right inside the anus. The colon had been reduced in size to about 3/8 of an inch. This was causing him to strain while defecating and was responsible for the mucous and blood.
The condition was inoperable, as it would have required the removal of the fairly large tumor (about 3 inches in diameter) and the last portion of his colon, along with reattachment of the remaining colon and, the distinct possibility of the condition recurring. It was also destined to continue getting worse, culminating in complete blockage. To spare him the inevitable pain and suffering, we made the difficult choice to have our friend of 12 years euthanized, leaving his brother, Proton, without his best friend. Just writing this brought tears to my eyes.

I have NEVER heard my cat fart ever! He adopted us and we’ve had him for 3 years! I told my husband he’s an older English gentleman and very proper! Not ONCE has he ever jumped on the counters, tables or the Christmas tree! I LOVE ❤️ him to bits!

My girl will be 21 in a few weeks and she is still Happy , healthy and able to groom herself , everywhere. She is still able to run and jump , and of course she still gets room service , because she tells me whenever she uses her litter box. So I clean it immediately , because she is my fur Baby. She has been with me for 1/3 of my life , up to this point. She is a wonderful pet , friend , and family member !!

ohhh so bum, wish i knew #10 years ago, i found a discarded kitten on the side of the road, maybe a month old or so, and she ate voraciously, however after a day or so i noticed she wasnt pooping, i massaged gently her intestines and felt a hardness close to her rectum, so i called the vet and they said to give her some castor oil, they said she was too small for surgery that they didnt have a needle small enough for her veins to anesthetise her, so i gave her castor oil, it didnt work and within the week she died and i cried and cried and felt like such a failure, then i found out she had been eating gravel after she was discarded before i found her, she had been so hungry,

If you understood the human immune system you would see that this is no problem at all. It actually increases your immunity to that bacteria! I just got a new kitten about 2 months ago. Sasha is gray with white stripes. The most remarkable marking is around her butt hole, which has a perfect white circle. Reminds me of a bulls eye! LOL

We once had a cat that was too chubby to clean her butt effectively and she developed E-coli. Luckily it was treatable and I did help her out with her grooming. Our current cat tends to get dingleberries and gets very aggressive whenever I try to comb them out 😬 So I bribe her with treats while I quickly comb her.

I never thought about my cat having butt cheeks, but his nickname has always been "kittybutt" because he's always had anal gland issues. Thankfully my friend is a vet tech and always checks when I bring him in! I have a senior cat with health issues, she misses her litter box, has it sticking on her, etc, I have to wipe her butt with warm water and a wash cloth a few days a week and she's not happy when I do it, I also have to lay out towels because she soils them where she sits, have taken her to the vet often and they gave her medication but still has issues.

😂 My son and I raised an abandoned 1 month old kitten, he is 4 now. When I am in the kitchen cooking, he goes over to me and puts his butt next to me so I always go and give his butt cheeks a little squeeze 😂and he walks off so happy with his head bopping. Little known fact: if your kitty has constipation, hairballs, or anal gland issues, often adding canned solid pack pumpkin to their food may help. Rather like Metamucil, it increases fiber content,& has a mild laxative effect. You don't need much; just a spoonful or two.(ln the interests of economy, l will freeze some in an ice cube tray, then put the pumpkin cubes into a ziploc bag in freezer - you can easily defrost a small amount,& don't waste an entire can due to spoilage.) Works great for dogs, too! The slightly sweet taste appeals to them,& there aren't any additives or chemicals to upset your pets' tummies... Veterinarian recommended. 😸❤😼

My cat is a little overweight so it is difficult for her to clean her own butt. I was surprised that my little dog started to lick her butt for her. The cat will lay on her back asking for the cleaning. At times she will do that to me so I try to get a wet paper towel and wipe her butt for her. The vet said it was ok for the dog to do her thing cleaning the cat’s butt. We had the cats before the dog as a puppy so she thinks she is really a cat. Weird animals but I love them. ❤❤

My cat freaked herself out because she swallowed a strand of my hair and her poop was stringy and she just jumped out of litter box and the rest of her poop landed outside the litter box. 😂
I have a overweight Siamese mix cat who had horrible butt issues. Very messy. Then when I changed her diet to exclusively canned food, she lost weight and her butt cleared up. Still chunky but better elimination.
