  • In this video I partially document my installation of the Eibach Pro Truck lift kit. I have very little automotive wrenching experience. Do not do anything I recommend in this video. It was a pretty fun install at times but make sure you have the right tools.     Dang, watching this video again I feel kinda bad about not doing more filming on the fronts. My wife had to stop filming and play with nieces and nephews, and I didn’t want to stop working. Feel free to comment any questions you may have on the front install and I will try my best to answer.

      Cliff Huff I have it on the first clip. I wish I went with the second clip but I was sketched out by my cheap spring compressors. It has a bit of front rake so it’s just a bit too low in the front. Don’t make my same mistake, go with the second clip!! And make sure u take before and after measurements from a good point like the edge of the rim. Not doing that was my other mistake.

      @@robertswiers7851 Pretty straight-forward. You just need to remove anything that gets in the way of you reaching the bolt head. On the passenger side, you can just use an extension I think. On the driver side, you’ll need to remove the battery/battery tray. You’ll also need to slightly bend some body out of the way to extract (not as scary as it sounds you’ll know when you see it).

    Really great video! So thankful for people like you taking the time to document this stuff esp for ppl like me with little wrenching experience. I was curious, I have an '11 Sequoia Platinum with failed air springs and have been watching GX 470 videos for ideas since 2nd gen sequoia videos air spring videos are rare. I already replaced the OEM electronic back shocks recently, do you know if you could just replace the rear coils on a swap like this? Also, would that affect the ability to switch between sport & comfort settings with the shocks or is that an independent system from air springs? Thanks in advance

      I’m not sure what would be required for the conversion, but I’d look for pics of any sequoia base models that come with coils from factory. I would also look for the rear suspension parts diagram for the base model to see all the part numbers you’ll need. The coil springs and air springs should be inert when it comes to driving modes, so the electronic shocks will handle it as long as the spring conversion doesn’t mess with the electronics (which I doubt it will). Just make sure you research which fuse to pull so you don’t get a constant air suspension error light.     Hey, quick question, if you're supposed to retorque the wheel spacer bolts after about 100 miles, hows does that work with the thread locking compound? Wouldn't the nut be sealed and locked in place from the thread lock? Thanks!

      I did not do that but I believe what they mean by “re-torquing” is to just check that they haven’t come loose. So the bolt shouldn’t get any tighter when you check that, and therefore you shouldn’t break the seal with the thread lock. If you do check it and the bolt rotates further, you’ll want to re-do that bolt anyway because something is wrong. The only reason for that to happen is if something got caught in there and somehow fell out during that 100 miles or something...

    Thank you so much for your detailed and clear installation video! You helped me install my eibach lift this past weekend! One question, i am still on stock wheels and tires, so the front independent suspension is a bit narrower since the suspension lift. I have noticed some floaty steering at highway speeds, do you think 1.25in spacers like yours would correct for the narrower stance and improve highway stability? Thanks!!

      That’s awesome!! Super stoked that I was able to help. I personally run 1.25” Spidertrax spacers and they work VERY well to correct that issue. Highly recommend. I forgot to film an install video of those but just follow the instructions and use the red thread lock they include, you’ll be good.

      @@hehexd1769 really appreciate you watching! Yes I definitely had that issue as well and especially off road, things get a little tipsy.
      I would recommend running front and rear. You will thank me later. The rear looks way better with the wider stance. It’s not just for the front.

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. The reason I was thinking just spacers on the front was because the independent suspension is actually narrower after the lift whereas the rear axle is still the same stock width. It might just be flawed logic idk

    Did you use the oem top hats back on the front struts? My kit did not come with new ones so I’m assuming you have to take them off the old suspension?

    Great vid! Sorry if I missed it but did you go with the 2" or 2.8" setting up front? How much lift did you actually get ?

      Great question. You didn’t miss anything. However I’m an idiot and didn’t measure before and after like I should have (too excited to get started I guess)
      This was the lowest setting. Too much rake in my opinion and it didn’t allow enough clearance for 33” tires.
      You’ll see in a later video that I did that I changed the setting to the 3rd position in preparation for installing a steel bumper/winch.
      That setting is a bit of reverse rake without weight up front but it leveled out perfectly when I fit the bumper setup.

    Great How to! I am about to buy the same kit, but besides the UCAs did you buy anything else? Like a Diff Drop? What was the total lift after the install?

      No diff drop. The GX is blessed with pretty good CV angles. If you go for the second clip on the front shocks, you’ll be level. I made the mistake of leaving it on the first clip so there’s a bit of rake. Rear should be 2.5 inches or so and fronts around 2-3” depending on the clip. Use the second one to get to 2.5 as mentioned before. Best of luck! Let me know if you have any questions when u do the install

    How are you liking the lift kit so far? Near stock ride comfort?

      I would say that it’s a more firm and reassuring ride. Especially since my stock suspension was not the best and I would bottom out on the bump stops regularly in the rear. With this kit, the truck feels much more solid, which is more comfortable for me vs. an iffy, soft setup.

      Thanks! Yes I run 33”s. It takes some trimming and pushing the front of the mudguard forward into the front bumper. If you watch the follow up video, I show you how much of a pain it is to change the setting from the 1st to the 2nd or 3rd setting lol th-cam.com/video/IyLS0Fe5gBQ/w-d-xo.html
      Moral of the story, just go with the 2nd setting if you’re not getting a steel bumper/winch and want to be level. It’ll also make it easier to fit bigger tires as well.
      The other way to fit bigger tires that nobody talks about: have your alignment guy put caster as far positive as possible to clear the body mount behind the tire.. This will necessitate more cutting near the front bumper but that’s less invasive than a body mount chop. Positive caster essentially pushes the front wheels forward in the wheel well.

    Can you adjust the height on the Eibach pretty easily? Also I noticed this Eibach Pro Kit doesn't have an option for the air to coil conversion...is that needed? And if so, are the upper isolators needed? Not really sure what they do.

      The upper idolaters just provide a small barrier between the spring and the upper spring perch. Just nice for a bit of comfort. Not sure if they do much but I haven’t had any issues with them. As for height adjustment, that’ll only be on the fronts and I made a full video on that process. It’s difficult. You have to take the front coil overs out and do it. Best to get it how you want it the first time. I’ll find the link to that video

      benoblest I removed them without unbolting the Lower Control Arm or the Tie Rod ends. It’s a squeeze, but if you are patient, once you remove the strut assembly hardware, you can work it down thru the bottom of everything while it’s still bolted up. Saves a bunch of time and leaves the factory hardware in place

      benoblest That hard line is just held in by a bracket and a 12mm bolt. Just be gentle and massage it out of the way. It’s probably one of the easiest bits of the job. On my How to Replace Wheel Studs video you can see how it looks since I had to remove the brake caliper. I think the hardest part about the job was that I didn’t have a good spring compressor for removing the top hat and oem springs. I had some sketchy $18 Amazon compressors. It was a lot of effort and it was scary. I would gladly pay a shop $50 to do that bit for me. Keep the questions coming if you have any! I wish I knew what I did now before I attempted the job so I know how you feel and will gladly provide info

      Daniel G okay cool, yeah I’m slightly afraid of doing compressing the coils using the spring compressor I have. I’ve seen videos of people change them without one using the weight of the truck and jack stands but that way also seems kinda of sketchy too. Maybe I’ll try find a local shop that can swap them out real quick. Last question, I’ve heard the top bracket that holds the factory adjustable electronics in the front is hardest part to remove. Any tips for getting that bracket off? Thanks again!

      benoblest no problem! yeah using the weight of the truck and jack stands seems all bad lol. Those electronics weren’t too bad. I remember that one side was easier than the other. If I remember correctly, I think I had to pry and break the top off one. Once I broke it off, then I could reach the bolts on the back side. Then you just unclip the harness plug and it’s free to take out and reach the nuts at the top of the shock tower

    I see you have installed these as well as the Luft Meisters, can you give us a breakdown in which you prefer and why? It appears you did the Luft Meister install after this one, so I’m curious as to what the short comings of this setup was and why you chose to back to a stick like setup?

      The Luftmeister was for my stock GX (I have two) and this setup is for my modified one. The difference is this Eibach one is a lift kit and the Luftmeister is a stock replacement

I have been putting serious contemplation to removing the air bags and installing a kit like this, but I also find that the stock height serves me just fine for the majority of overlanding and camping trips. Did you feel like this kit gave you a significant off road advantage over the Luft Meister setup?

      Here are my recommendations for modifying your GX for off-road use. This Eibach kit (as well as any other off-road focused ones) will be stiffer, tougher and much more resistant to bottoming out off-road than the stock suspension. They will also be engineered to support the weight off heavy accessories most people add to their rigs.
      As I explain in the video I linked to, I think larger diameter off-road focused tires are the most essential off-roading modification, and a lifted suspension setup will both allow you to fit bigger tires and give you a more secure ride when off road. The squishy stock suspension and tires are not good for any serious trails but should be fine on the odd dirt road.
      If you want to retain the stock ride-quality, I think just keeping the stock suspension as long as it lasts is a good option, then decide whether to get a lift or just replace stock components with replacement stock parts.
      It’s important to note that, this Eibach kit was a full kit (springs & shocks,) and the Luftmeister ones I installed in the later video are not a kit. They are just rear stock replacement shocks that are cheaper than OEM Toyota.

      @@amitvachher I personally think the Eibach kit is fantastic for my purposes, but you need to listen to your own priorities. I have a lot of weight on my rig and go on some tough trails. If you plan on doing the same, it’s a great kit.

      I did on the fronts. I used the icon spacer kit so the sway bar didn’t hit the springs. But I no longer run sway bars at all

      Wyatt Whitener I really don’t know why people spend $800+ on other non adjustable UCA’s. They seem very robust, the ball joint looks solid, and my alignment guy was able to get my lifted suspension in spec no problem. There’s a lot of Gucci gear out there but these just work. Plus, they look great as well. No downsides from my perspective.

      As long as you don’t lift it too high, I think the stock UCA is fine. It just makes it more difficult to get the correct alignment. If you go beyond a certain lift (probably closer to 3+-” I believe) it will be impossible to get your alignment in spec. I just did aftermarket UCAs for more durability and to make it so I don’t have to worry about alignment issues in the future.

      Rodney Burt Eibach sells these for $810 last I checked. If you’re trying to get a good deal, find one with blown rear air springs (since you are installing a lift) and a leaking transfer case actuator. I made a video on how to fix that common issue.

      Hi! Yes this kit deletes the airbag by replacing it with springs and isolators. You don’t really need to do anything else other than pull some fuses.

      Sebastian Martinez I forgot to measure the difference. It wouldn’t be accurate anyway as my air springs were blown. 2” seems about right though, maybe even 2.5” with no cargo

      So worth doing. Most of these trucks’ stock suspension is blown anyway. You can tell this kit is setup for having some weight on it (steel bumpers, roof tent setups, etc.) but I plan on putting that stuff on anyway. There are literally no downsides that I can think of. I only regret not putting the spring perches on the second setting to raise the front a bit more. I’ve high-speed off road tested it, rock/rut tested: the setup with the Eibach pro truck kit/Freedom Offroad UCAs with the 255/80/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws is really good. I just recently added the White Knuckle off road sliders (check out the video) and having that extra weight helps smooth out the ride even more. Totally recommend. Price is second to none for what you get.

      It’s great! Stiffer than stock which is good for off road confidence. Ride Gets better as you add weight.

    You forgot to bolt the top spring isolator in

      The kit didn’t come with hardware to bolt it in. But I’ve not had a single issue with it held in there by the weight of the vehicle. I even upgraded to HD springs in a later video and had a chance to check everything over. It’s all good up there.

      @@roveirdatu3851 yeah, definitely, it make sure to watch this video just to see how the fronts get installed. It’s a GX460 (newer) but it’s the same principle. th-cam.com/video/lcA5z4YPUTk/w-d-xo.html
      For the rear airbag delete, I think my video explains it fairly well. If you have any questions, you can comment and I’ll try to answer
