@@lunantixit was for high power stations (like ABC, CBS, and NBC). It wasn’t until 2021 when ALL analog stations were shut down (they were still mainly being used by smaller local stations that weren’t affiliated with a major network)

I haven't seen anyone note this: This whole series (especially this video) suggests their might have been an ulterior motive for the FCC to cease analog broadcasts. They were trying to stop something, and just because we can't see it doesn't mean it's not still there.

@@person3271 IRL it is illegal to broadcast analog, but the receiving part being illegal is fictional. Receiving just doesn't have a point IRL because no one is transmitting anymore.
However implied within this video is that the digital transition is to prevent people seeing the dangerous messages sent out from whatever is on the moon through analog TV. To completely cut off this moon entity they have thus also made receiving illegal, so hopefully no one will even try to get its messages
@@person3271 Yeah, but there is a difference in the Local 58 rules and law and IRL, especially if there is any mix-matching happening (like how the Walden Files has been linked to FNAF directly despite being on opposite ends of the same choice, with Walden only occuring if FNAF never happened.) A lot of the Analog sphere, including Local 58 but also GENESIS HOME ENTERTAINMENT, CHANNEL BLUE, The Mandela Catalogue, and more, involve some main problem with not only objects that give reflections or images (such as mirrors or screens) but also the signals themselves.
While the FCC IRL has the problem of controlling bands due to the fact that our radiation bandwidth is so full as it is that adding one more thing can fuck with so many others (look at how Bluetooth devices interact with others, or how 5G towers initially fucked with ATC and Weather radar systems when first placed for an example) this wouldn't have been a problem in these universes because we already know that in a lot of them, like in Mandela, the local government has already taken the choice to destroy their own technology to prevent future death tolls, something we have only thought of in our worst nightmares. So their airspace should be mostly clear, and they shouldn't have a reason to take things down for update reasons unless something was actually wrong or dangerous with the previous system, because if they take something down, it's also one less reliable thing they actually have to communicate quickly and safely if there is a massive emergency, as development of new technology would probably slow to a glacial pace after the discovery of this problem, rightfully so.
Hence, the FCG is willing to go to far greater lengths of punishment for someone using old tech than the FCC. If someone makes an illegal radio station here, which people do all the time with HAM radios, they'll go to jail for a bit and come out in a jiffy, albeit with a longer stay tacked on if they happened to interfere with a nearby airport or military base. But these people in these worlds would potentially be summoning a portal for the shit we saw in the opening videos...
...and we all remember what our destination was on our fastest available route, right?

Interesting - July 13 2021 seems like a "late" date for digital switchover - but it appears that was indeed the final cutoff date for low-power analog stations. They did their homework. Of special note: an exception was made for Alaska. Their deadline is now January 10, 2022. I wouldn't be surprised to see something crop up then.
You can see at one point an older “screenshot” from local 58 that states they will not be participating in the digital switch over. Which could mean that indeed they were a low power broadcaster who did not want to invest in digital until the FCC needed them to (which I believe quite a lot of stations IRL were in the same spot, though I am not an American)

seems like it’s actually the feds that tried to cut down the signal, hence the federal fine of 150,000. my guess would be that post-Contingency (which would be highly classified, a whole department outside of public knowledge.) the FBI very closely monitored Local 58 and now is trying their best to cut out interlopers at any cost.

What’s the difference?
The show in the beginning is from "One Step Beyond" that capitalized on the popularity of the Twilight Zone just like Outer Limits. One Step Beyond was supposed to be stories of actual strange events rather than the other shows which were fictional. There's also a quick flash of a clip in Fastest Available Route.

I visited the website, and one thing I noticed that no one seems to be talking about is that when you click on the archived link from 1999, all of a sudden, two archived links from 2001 pop up that weren't there before. Clicking on the first 2001 link gives you a 500 internal server error, and clicking the 1999 link after that (you can also click the second 2001 link) brings you to an article called the era of home recording. At the beginning it describes a magnetic tape cartridge player to record things, but at the end of the article, the paragraph seems to get interrupted by this creepy message: "Time, at once both warden and thief, laid low by gossamer loops of air and iron. Here is a greater, finer memory than that of men. Before the gilded doorsill of our master's silent house, we lift our mortal eyes along its wide forgotten stair, and fix them thereupon an empty throne."
I noticed something interesting on this page. If you look at the picture of the tv under the passage you just mentioned, there appears to be a QR code if you look closely. I’m trying to figure out if it can be scanned but I’m not sure

Idk, the ending seems to show otherwise. Even if whoever wrote was just an employee of Local 58, that implies that the company is still being controlled by the moon. I'm sure there are other ways the moon can interfere that doesn't involve analog TV, like just influencing the broadcasters themselves

I'm really happy to see that this channel isn't dead. There are so many crappy ARGs and analog horror channels on TH-cam so its really nice to see one that's genuinely kinda scary as well as well thought out with a good story line ect. Keep up the great work!
I think the final message at the end is basically saying “The change to digital television is not going to stop us from invading the signal whenever we want and will only strengthen our attempts at sending our messages.” In short, Local 58 tried to stop the signal intrusions through the digital transition but only strengthened the “Moon’s” resolve.

@@jdrzkn I don’t think ‘Local 58’ is a good guy or a bad guy. Local 58 is just a means to convey messages. And every video, from Contingency to Digital Transition, it has been a power struggle against us and them, to control this local tv station, and the switch to digital is just our futile attempt to regain control.

My assumption is that whatever entity we're dealing with can hijack analog signals, but not digital ones, so it's pissed off. That would also explain why tuning into analog would carry such a harsh penalty.

Not going to lie, I feel really betrayed right now. Premier video set OUTSIDE of Halloween at a late AM hour for a good chunk of people, which IIRC by youtube means the video was done days out and just sitting there to be "livestreamed" on a monday/tuesday where the average joe with normal job hours can't watch it post-spooky time. Then, its outright removed once it has been shown, and even people grabbing a link that may have once worked are just being thrown to a broken privated link now.
I dunno, maybe its a part of the setup or mystery to be a part of some secretive few, but it feels like a jerk move, especially with videos so far and few between.

2:04 WCLV is a real radio station which plays classical music and is based in the Cleveland/Akron area.
A big part of Analog Horror is gone (Channel 7, Analog Archives, and Eventide Media Center) so this is probably a win for Local58

I love how all glitchs at the end is a digital thing (Datamoshing for instance). And yet it still feels like an analog horror.

This video is from the point of view of a viewer watching through an analog TV. The entity is trying to manipulate the analog transmission but its having trouble, because it can only mess with analog. It then relinquishes control, because it's useless to do their thing on old TVs only.
Which is where the other entities, introduced here, come in. That's why there is so much datamoshing in this video. Whoever mandated there be a switch to digital right now, thought he was taking control from the entity on the moon, but didn't realize he was making it worse. They even ended putting on a flashcard to ask people politely to change to a digital receiver or TV. It didn't work, so they switched to another one to scare people into switching to digital, by telling them it's illegal to even receive analog.
The video shows they initially wanted to switch to digital, but that they also planned to convert the digital signal into analog as well, to keep compatibility with older TVs. That's why datamoshing is present, even though it's a digital signal.

I thought this series was dead and then this video came out of the blue.
We’re obviously watching from the point of view of an analog TV. I wonder what this would have looked like for a TV that WAS able to receive digital signals.
It would have probably not even displayed the "Switch to digital" stuff. It would be just like any other night in the quiet Ichor Falls.
It's funny how Local58 hasn't been posting in...well forever yet is still sitting at 476K subscribers. If they came back, they honestly have a good chance of becoming the king of Analog horror.

The irony of one of the progenitors of analog horror making a video about the switch to digital, right when Analog horror is the in thing, is not lost on me.
I wanted to look at the "betrayal" announcement again and realized that the title changes. I was too busy reading about the knife to notice that "I come in through the window". One of the creepiest lines in my book.
So he's trying to get in again, he did that the first time during Weather Service
I'm just saying he's pissed as fuck about the new digital age. He's VERY VERY angry about that, and holy fuck does he express it in the background.

It's amazing how they managed to recreate a whole decade of television, congratulations kris, you managed to basically create the whole concept of what an analog horror is.
Back when my family was poor, we couldn't afford cable television, but we still got a limited number of channels by just plugging our TVs to the cables that were screwed into the walls. That kept us entertained for years. But one night, it suddenly ceased working. On every channel was a somewhat blurry message on a dark background giving us a phone number to call to purchase a cable package. Whenever I lacked anything to do, if the internet was out and I was alone, I at least could just turn on the TV to have some noise in the house. But not anymore. The emotions that screen made me feel are hard to describe. The middle of the night, the only noise being a fan and the low hum of the television, the dim message marking the end of an era of simple pleasures and comforts.
This video recaptured that feeling for me. 2:35 hit me with a load of deja vu, and 3:45 pulled me back to that night in front of the television with the empty message. It made me visualize being there at night with the only light being a message on the old TV telling depriving me of service. You would have to experience it yourself to know the eeriness and loneliness this video makes me feel.
Was that night, by any chance, February 17th, 2009? Because that's when all analogue TV in the US went off forever.
I had the same sort of feeling. You put it exactly in the right words.
After I watched this, I had a dream of my uncle's old console television, watching the old Native American test pattern. I spent so many nights surfing UHF at night, when signals were stronger. For me, too, it evokes much, and I'm happy it did.

It's the little things that do it for me: the stuff in the montage not being directly related to previous episodes, because local 58 is bigger than what we'll ever see of it (including the show for children being a different episode/in colour!), the few seconds after 12am where the interruption takes a moment to kick in, the weather warning and frantic attempts to get people outside, because of course the moon is upset it's receiver is being messed with. It's all so good, and I haven't even gone over the dark background text yet!
That bit with Analog Local 58 "screaming" at Digital Local 58 seems to imply that the Analog entity is struggling to stay alive at all costs and is slowly losing, with the bits of "UNTHINKING THEY MOVE" being a defiant curse that it is screaming out at the world in order to find a way to still affect us until it finally surrenders control to instead try heading to another Analog Station with "There are other Receivers" line being him giving up on its' attempts.
In many ways this does not feel like a normal aspect of Horror; but instead as the Brave and Stalwart Hero managing to lock away the Evil Emperor inside of a Cage to contain his evil once and for all.

Just a heads up to everyone who's saying this is "DIGITAL HORROR": Even tho the theme in this video is the transition to digital, the video in itself is still Analog horror, since everything we are watching right here is from the analog broadcast perspective, or else anything happening wouldn't make sense at all. That aside, I've personally being wanting more content. I'm happy

@@Nikku4211 have you watched those channels which are natively transmitting their content from a digital source BUT they adapt that signal to analog? That’s what I believe is happening here. The channel we are watching is STILL the analog one but aside the native digital screen with the warning is also being messed up. Think about it. Why would the FGC issue that message if the channel we are watching was a digital one?

For datamoshing to happen the signal had to be digital at some point. That it was converted to analog is besides the point.
Also, the whole point of the video is that the entity is telling us the switch to digital is only gonna make things worse. We're switching to digital corruption now. We've yet to see if the following videos will follow through, though.
