If I'm remembering correctly, more than a few of those cults _knew_ they were doomed, and were working to speed up the return of the various Elder Things in order to spare humanity the suffering of a slow destruction. Sort of a "rip the band-aid off quickly" path to inevitable extinction.

When I heard “A predator cannot differentiate prey from accomplice”, I immediately thought of classical (read Greco-Roman) mythology. The moon is a huntress and there are stories of that goddess cursing her devotees as well as those who looked on her inappropriately. I’m not as familiar with other mythologies, but suspect that the moon is similarly personified.
Isn't Artemis associated with the moon too?
@@0nullnil, she is. Some stories have her transforming men into prey animals if the men looked at her wrong (i.e. when she was nude) and setting her hounds on the man thus transformed. And I remember one story of a virgin devotee of one of the goddesses associated with the moon being turned into a prey animal and hunted because the young woman lost her virginity to a violator. She wasn’t even at fault.
The moon is not generally associated with kindness or compassion, but with mutability and caprice.

Maybe the digital element, the new medium, is being corrupted, hence why there’s a hand reaching down, to dig its claws into new mediums, and new viewers, and that could also explain why there are splices of other video references from the analog days.

- Regarding the webpage image with the “extended hand.” It shows the light spectrum. And we know “ITS IN THE LIGHT.” And “WE SEND SIGNALS TO OURSELVES THRU THEIR DOMAIN.” Their domain being certain frequencies?
- I think it’s important to keep in mind that the tv station is still analog, as the digital conversion failed. “THIS STATION WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING IN DIGITAL CONVERSION AT THIS TIME.” I assume that this is the creator’s answer to how the broadcast continues to be hijacked after the FCC mandated switch to all-Digital broadcasting.
- Is this narrative about
1) humanity vs. some cosmic entity or entities that are associated with the electromagnetic spectrum?
2) two sets of “eldritch” cosmic entities like the Great Old One versus the Elder Gods, with humanity caught in the middle? Whoever they are, "We've always been here” and “I the always here.”
3) a group of people subjected to some nefarious brainwashing experiment?
Lastly, there is that “mining disaster” in 1963. Mining what? And where? In the Show for Children, we see Cadavr walk through an underground tunnel much like a mine. And I don’t think the moon was very happy about it. Maybe it’s a warning to us human parasites to stop exploiting natural resources. IDK

The only thing that keeps going through my head watching these videos about Local 58 is deja vu for Welcome to Night Vale. It almost feels like the time period before Welcome to Night Vale takes place. Before the community just blindly accepts the weird things that have been occuring as if they're normal, a desensitizing. Instead of just being focused on a couple small towns, like Welcome to Night Vale, this is aimed at the world through the internet. I don't know... that's the path my weird brain chooses to go down the rabbit's hole😅!

Check out local58, it's only about 10 short films that don't take long to watch at all.
Am I the only one that looked at the creators post "debunking" his initial alien theories and was like "Wow, what a fucking douche", it was so needlessly dismissive and insulting. Also, when an ARG creator tries so freaking hard to tell you you're wrong it just makes you look even more right.
I don't typically attempt to suggest things here, but I would like to humbly ask that you look into the Mandela Catalogue. It's another analogue horror channel not dissimilar to this one, but it has its on style and brand of horror that is both decently unique and deeply unsettling. It has a few episodes already with some codes to decipher and a decent basis of information to theorize off of. Thanks for taking the time to read!

I have my own little theory behind this: what if the "being in the moon" is the norse giant, ymir. Because if you think of the moons origin, it came from a large chunk of the earth and got caught in its magnetic field. Then, look at the earths origin: it came from the corpse of ymir, but maybe he never died. Maybe, ymir is angry, calling us parasites, as in a virus to him, and one he must eradicate. Furthermore, maybe the hand isn't a hand at all. It's the roots of yggdrasil, the world tree, and how the colours are segmented. And, the reason he is speaking through the moon is because its just another part of him, and he has been lying dormant for millenia, and now he is ready to take back what is his. I may be wrong, but I think this is interesting.

“No stars above us, only eyes waiting to open” might refer to the time it takes for information to travel through space. For example, if a message is sent from earth to the nearest star it would take around 4 years for it to receive it, or in other words to open it’s eyes. Since our messages has been transmitting for many years, it is only a matter of time before the other stars and whatever resides within them to receive signals from earth.

I think they help the moon knowing they'll get eradicated as well, and those lines aren't from any other than from the members themselves telling other members that "predators doesn't diferencia te from accomplices". Basically sacrificing themselves by helping the moon

That's Zelda whole timeline in a nutsell.
They were forced by the fans to make one, but Nintendo has always said that the "official timeline" was just made up to answer the fans craving for it. And I just love that, we have their timeline to guide us -as long as we want to-, but we still can theorize and modify it, or even making a whole new one.

4:08 Local 58's callsign however, was WCLV-TV TV being full power analog and DT being digital, it gets the DT suffix after the transition, The deadline that kept getting pushed if I recall correctly was for Class A low power analog stations (those with a suffix of CA) and Low Power stations (and basically, all the other analog stations that were excluded from the full power deadline). Full power stations had to shutdown by June 12th 2009. Either local 58 somehow managed to keep getting exemptions from the FCG and or other government agencies or Local 58's universe is slightly different from ours with event timings (or how events play out).

The idea of the moon being some kind of cosmic entity is made even more believable when you realize there’s a movie coming out next year called Moonfall that happens to be about a “mysterious force” knocking the moon out of orbit into a collision course with Earth only for astronauts to find out the moon isn’t what we thought it was.
That’s what I thought too. And if it weren’t for the fact that we know who the creator is, I’d assume that Local 58 was created by the same idiots in marketing that made the viral campaign for 2012. (Long story short, they released the movie in 2008 and people thought the campaign was actually a government program designed to save humanity from the [fictional] doomsday event in 2012 and crapped their collective pants. Think Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds for the modern day.) Ironically, the campaign kinda worked, as anyone who went and saw that dud also fell for the marketing.
P.S. 2012 and Moonfall have the same director, so my hopes for the latter being good are virtually nonexistent.

I actually felt like (considering the idea that the moon has some kind of consciousness) the "beyond a certain point watching is no different from doing" as if it was a message for itself. Instead of warning the people that are just watching, it is more like a "I can't keep watching anymore, I have to do something against the parasites" kind of message.

Total guess here, but wanted to throw it out there.
About that stretched out image on the website, is it possible to overlap each colored part to reveal a complete image divided between them? No idea what tools would be involved in that, I just find it interesting that three of the four colors used are the primary colors in the light spectrum, while the main technology used to deliver these messages relies on variations of those three colors presented on a screen. If that hunch is right, you may also consider the overabundance of red in the image to be connected to the color spectrum values necessary to solve that clue.

When MatPat said that "What if the Earth is also one of these cosmic entities?" I immediately thought of Unicron from the Michael Bay Transformers Movies,since in those films Unicron IS the Earth (Or at least he is and/or lives in the Earth's Core).

I feel like matpat talking about the predator cannot differentiate the prey to the accomplice, is a reference to modern medicine. In modern medicine the way that it works is that the medicine kills all bacteria the good ones and the bad ones. This could just be me realizing this or I don't know but it's really interesting.
Ever since I say "Skywatching", it made me think of the Dead Space Brethren moon, minus the tentacles. Especially the way it looked like it was breathing, taking in the dust around it. There's certainly a horror aspect to something so massive being alive. From what we know of living creatures, a big animal needs a lot of food.
So what sustains a Moon-sized Eldritch Abomination? What provides enough energy to keep it alive?
But I digress. That organic webbing, all those sinews... but isn't it odd that there's a section of the moon with what resembles a city, and an arrow-like structure? As if to direct those who look at it into a certain spot? I wonder what one would see, if you moved your telescope towards where the arrow pointed.
Also speaking of Eldritch-sized planet, wasn't there a story from Japanese horror artist Junji Ito about them discovering a planet, and the moment they noticed it, it noticed them and began closing in on the Earth to consume it? Just food for thought.

This makes me wonder what the relationship between the Moon Entity and the Earth Entity is. Sure, you could argue that the Moon just wants to help the Earth out of goodwill, but how often is that the case? What if there is some bigger reason behind the Moon's need for Earth's survival?
maybe it’s a symbiotic relationship. if the earth isn’t there, then the moon flies into space. what would the moon provide though? maybe the entities are related in some capacity, and are helping each other out of familial love, like paying for your old moms chemo treatments, because there’s a chance she won’t die.
My perdonal theory is that the Thought Research Initiative is the aliens you first theorized about
If the moon is a “throne” of the being leaving us the messages. And other celestial bodies are “thrones” to larger beings. Then maybe, the alien theory isn’t that far off. Maybe, the moon and the earth are both “thrones” but the earth is our “throne”, we are the beings of earth, which would make me think that the moon has its own race.

An example of the sentence in third person would be: "If he is silenced, others will come to speak for him."

I think what Matpat means is that it switches from first person to third person in regard to the entity not that the whole thing switches from first to third. The implication being that the first part is the entity speaking for itself and the other message is another group (the TRI if this theory turns out to be true lol) speaking for/about the entity. The second part has to be a different person from the first part because who would be the "him" they are referring to if it's not the "one you watch" then

@@EtamirTheDemiDeer That's a psychological concept to help with empathy and that's a good example of what makes this so freaky; if someone needs help, they're still in need even if you're not near them like starving children in a poor country (that's permeance) but with quantum entanglement, those same starving children both exist and don't exist until you observe them. Right now we know there are children in a country that has a high probability to be poor and hungry, yet their existence is completely theoretical and our expectations are they have a high probability of being that way... until one day we fly out there and our observation of them reveals, instead, that they live completely obese and are rich beyond reason; instantaneously across time and space, their existence as obese rich children becomes a reality. They are now obese rich children and always were (but only after we saw them). To be honest, I wish I understood quantum theory enough to give examples to help make sense of it because that was a silly example... It takes a lot to wrap your head around because it defies all logic and we're wired to observe reality as cause and effect so we try and make sense of it without success. Scientists have actually tested (repeatedly) to see if either what we see as reality has always been that way or if reality was made the way it is by probability after we observe it... Physicists keep coming to the same strange conclusion that reality exists only after observation... And no one can figure out why or how. The first quantum computer has been built at IBM using entanglement, which blows my mind that it works...
