@@jonjones3958 I really believe that his shoulder injury in the early 2010s (2013?) really did him in, in the long run. If you watch their late 2010s live performances, there’s this stiffness in his playing that wasn’t there before, even when he was completely hammered.
I used to love cob. And ive been into alot of jazz fusion lately. So this is super cool to see. His musical choices were very creative. Still managed to get some bodom-ness in there lol
Imagine a world where Alexi played Ibanez. I own an original ESP Alexi Custom, and I love it. But that thing is a bitch to play compared to any Ibanez.
He was soooo fawking good!! Even at 17!! I have been playing a LONG time and am not half that good. He must have practiced so much but was so talented anyway.....virtuoso!!
@ I believe the exact model is an Ibanez RG220B. Should be on the wiki page for SW. I’d imagine the neck pickup can sound better for longer Yngwie style sweeping sections (like the end of The Nail) because it won’t be quite as harsh or brittle as the bridge pup will.
This Ibanez is an Ibanez Rg 220b, it was only used for the recordings of Something Wild. On the Beware the Heavens album, Alexi already used Custom Shop Jackson "Stone" RR.
It’s an RG550 and he did use it in beware the heavens as some of the solos have a distinct neck pickup sound(like in something wild). A guy in the COB Facebook forum actually owns that Ibanez shown right there(yes, Alexi’s Ibanez) although it’s broken. But above that, I know it’s an RG550 for sure because Alexi states it in his biography. So there is that. If you compare the sound of the live TH-cam video in which Alexi plays the solo for “The Warrior Princess” w/The Stone RR, you can hear a clear difference in tone from the album version. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Kim on Instagram.
am i really seeing this?!!! this is like everything alexi normally would shit on.. he even talked crap about jazz! quite frankly after hearing this i have a totally whole new respect for him after already being one of my favorites. wow, so bizarre it doesnt even sound anything like him too. although still very fluid. i thought this was a joke at first
its like happy the man... there r many aspects of this that stem from jazz. the only thing prog about this is that he plays a few metal rhythms but its basically jazz fusion..
He was so good in any musical genre. A truly virtuoso
He was well educated.
Without all the injuries and excess drinking, it's scary to think how much more potential he had. Still a legend though, R.I.P.
dude, i say this so much!

yesss.. its so weird hearing him play something like this. but even in synergy is totally worlds apart from cob

Bullshit. I bought a Jackson in memory of Alexi, better than any guitar I’ve ever owned.

Just 17 years old then.
I didn’t click on this for the prog, I clicked on this for the Something Wild guitar
it was used for beware the heavens too.
Do you know the song?
oooh now the neck pickup usage on that album makes sense, i've always wondered what guitar it was

Wow, that was so cool to see! Any idea who wrote the songs for this band? Thanks so much for posting this rare and priceless footage! ❤️
I'm pretty sure these songs are mostly original and the guitar parts were written by Alexi himself.
Primus :D
donde conseguiste esto?
En un forum de Children of Bodom, lo e tenido en mi telofono desde ase tiempo.
Thanks for uploading. Must have missed this through the years.
I have heard that it doesn't depend on the artist, but on the instrument. That explains why no one wants to listen to me "shredding"
What’s this song called?
