    As a Land Rover series 3 owner, I’d argue you can use one every day (I do!). My S3 is 200tdi powered, otherwise standard, and do over 300 miles a week. If you stay on top of your maintenance and keep it in good nick, it’ll be your best friend! Mine hasn’t let me down since owning it, and I love her to death.

    Nice work as always guys. For others looking into this conversion, a number of additional points to note. The series battery tray and air filter bracket has to be removed with the battery relocated to the seatbox. The 2.25L engine bracket on the drivers side of the chassis has to be removed and replaced with the TDI bracket. The passenger side engine bracket on the chassis does not need to be replaced. A solenoid between the starter positive and glowplug circuit is a simple solution with the solenoid activated from the key or an additional switch on the dash.

      If fitted as a di I fitted a 200di...ie turbo removed.....the battery tray and oil bath air filter can be retained with a mod the the batt carrier....also the battery stays under the bonnet.
      So much more room under the bonnet.....and another plus.....you keep the std rad....and alternator position.
      Looks so much more in keeping in a Series Engine Compartment.
      Cant see any reason why a 300 can be made to be a non turbo...ie DI
      40mpg and still plenty of power....way better than a 2.25d and petrol.

    Know someone who did this conversion on his S3 88" diesel plus he added 1 Ton rims with 205/16 tyres and an Ashcroft S2 transfer box on the S3 gearbox with overdrive, lots of sound insulation and cruised at 60mph easily on the highway, made my 88" 2.25 diesel look slow!

    Love seeing a series landy on the channel will make a massive difference in it drive having a TDI under the bonnet. Though would have gone for a full new fuel tank and line as the new diesel will strip the any old petrol residue and cause issues was a common on diesel conversion on 101's great to see you uprated the brakes to disc to.

    Nice job fitting the engine, I did the same conversion, but unfortunately the high torque of 300tdi in comparison of the original 2.25 engine ends in broken gearbox, ( I broke 3 gearbox all synchronized) I suggest you to upgrade at list lt77 o r380 with short bell housing.

    • @lowen74s
      @lowen74s ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The standard Series gearbox in good condition will take a TDI reliably. A 2.25 can break a Series gearbox and likewise a TDI can break an LT77/R380, condition of the gearbox plays a big part.

      Totally agree with you. I did my 200tdi conversation over 10 years ago and the old crash gearbox is still going well, but there again I'm not doing donuts or F1 traffic light starts.

    • @lowen74s
      @lowen74s ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobp6742 was that with the box rebuilt at the same time or as it was?
      For the Series 3 I'm rebuilding I've gone down the route of using 1st, 2nd, reverse and the layshaft from the last of the Series 2 non synchro, and 3rd and 4th from the last of the Series 3 as I like the durability of the non synchro 1st and 2nd and only find coming down the gears a pain in my Series 2. The synchro teeth wearing on 3rd and 4th had occurred to all of mine before fitting TDIs and from the ones I've had apart looks like changing gear too fast, the tooth design and maybe oil issues have been big factors in this wear. The ones that have been apart are due to the spring steel strips breaking and jamming up the 3rd / 4th synchro hub.

      In answer to your question, it doesn’t exactly bolt up - the stud at 6 o clock needs to be removed and moved about 1 inch over and re drilled into the flywheel housing. You’ll need a 300Tdi pressure plate, but a series clutch - LOF or Steve Parker’s provide this unit for the conversion 🙏🏻
